Dual Blades/Electric Armor Brute build critique

Hello everyone, I created my Dual Blades/Electric Armor Brute the first day of Issue 11 and I loved her. She became my main, and my first 50 (after over 2 years of no 50s). But the lack of ways to improve her without IOs had me shelving her. With Issue 19, I decided to dust her off and redicovered why I loved her. Now with her Alpha slot, I found her to be impressive and decided to go all the way. I respeced, got rid of the single purple enhancement which I crafted from the only recipe I've ever gotten and got most of this build set.

Well, as I said earlier, I'm almost done with this set. The last few things left, are sadly, the most expensive. The PvP Def IO, 5 pieces of the Numina set, as well as 5 pieces of the Aegis set and 1 piece from two of the Obliterates. I'm not entirely set on the Aegis, I may go for another Titanium coating, leaving my resistances to take care of the stray AoE. Which are some ways on improving upon this? I was able to handle two +0/x8 missions without using inspirations, one was CoT and one was Rikti. The Rikti have never been a problem to begin with, but the CoT mission had me dying once at the very end. That means that playing the game regularly with insps, I probably can handle +1 or +2. Currently, I'm sitting at:

30% Melee, 20% Ranged, 62% S/L Resist, 90% Energy, 45% Fire/Cold, 35% Psychic, and 30% Neg. Energy. Using the Sweep combo while targeting a boss for 1k Cut also helps immensely in the survival department.
I'm using a Cardial Radial Boost (The one with Resistance) and loving it so far.

Your build focuses on positional defense. Positional defense does have its advantages. The problem is that the bonus usually comes at the 5th or 6th slot of an IO set. It is reflected in your build that your powers are either 6-slotted, or just 1 slot. It's probably not the best for powers like static shield, weave, maneuvers, ball lightning, lightning field, and tactics to be slotted so minimally. I think you can play on the Mid planner to try out various ways to optimize your character.

Electric armor always do pretty well with Rikti. I think you can have a better overall assessment of your character by fighting against mob groups like Longbow, Arachnos, and Cimerorans.

Well the reason I went after positional defense is because of all the criticisms that Energy Armor gets for being typed defense. True, I have to sacrifice slots on some powers that would greatly benefit from them, but I haven't noticed too much of a detractor. I do remember giving slots to Lightning Field, but that was when it could take taunt sets (and therefor psychic damage procs).

Energy Aura isn't criticized because it only provides typed defense. It's considered subpar because its other forms of mitigation are rather poor. It also doesn't have the Defense Debuff Resistance of SR to get by solely on defense.

The name of the game is layered mitigation and EA just doesn't rank high in that regard.

But you're building an electric armor brute (resistance set), not an energy armor brute (defense set - typed)...or am I missing something?

The Porcelain God - DarkKinetics Corruptor
Meat Juice - DarkDarkSoul Brute
Pretty and Strong - Do you really have to ask?

I figured if a defensive set being bashed for typed defense (I was admittedly wrong), why would I want to focus my bonuses on typed defense? Shoot for the gold and go for positional. To me that's entirely logical, I'm still playing around Mids' to see if I can get capped typed defense, but it seems the only one that gets close (as close as melee got on my original build) is Smashing/Lethal.

I'll be honest, not liking the slotting of energize, personally. YMMV, but I prefer ED capped recharge in Energize. I have mine on a 34 second recharge.

Typed defense is bashed not because it is inferior to positional defense. The comparisons and comments that you saw in the forum are in the context of power sets based on typed defense, for example energy aura. Typically, for a typed-defense power set, the designer likes to poke holes in the defense, for example no psionic defense, and low negative energy defense as well for the case of energy aura. While for a positional-defense power set, the designer cannot do such thing because the power set cannot be designed with no melee defense for example.

For a resistance power set, you don't have defense to start with, and it is very unlikely that you can soft cap either all defense types or all positional defenses. Hence, the issue that I mention above is not really relevant for your case. Usually, players try to soft cap melee defense or s/l defense for a melee character. Each choice has its own advantages. I made the comment in my post above because your build has quite a few useful powers that are not slotted as you run out of slots. I think if you build around s/l defense, you can 4 or 5 slots some of your powers instead of 6 slotting, then you can free up some slots. On the other hand, if you're fine with your current build, that's ok for me.
