I have asked myself about the value of Praetoria but here's the deal.
Praetoria is the best place for new players.
1. Access to all of the archetypes. CoH and CoV doesn't have this option. I created hero dominators and hero masterminds in Praetoria.
2. An enviroment created for new people. Group events pop up when you go through the zone with timers.
3. Less complexity and more fun. Just leveling and fighting. No Supergroups, no TFs. Just lots of missions.
4. By forcing Praetoria, prevent newbies from trialing the whole game and consuming the meaty content. The 20 level content is perfect even for the hardcore gamer for the trial period(7 days).
5. Newbies under trial can't tell each other but they can be added to teams. All can play/team with each other in this zone.
6. I DON'T HAVE TO TRAIN NEWBIES!!!
I disagree with the comments that this is the better content. New content without Tyrant, Desdemona, and Maelstrom sends a message.
I did Praetoria with 7 new characters using Ultramode on my new laptop and the only thing I noticed different was when I crafted stuff. The message flashed appeared differently. Since then I've turned it off to get faster game play and less lag. -
I just went though this. I copied the old coh directory from my old computer to my new computer, placed it exactly in the same location as your old files(about 4 gb). Run the updater from inside the folder. I got to within 44 mb(missing latest patch). Use a thumb/usb drive if you have it.
Under Windows 7, C:\Program Files(x86)\City of Heroes -
I hope you guys keeps working on this. Just because it wasn't initially rec'ved well don't mean it's not useful. Some things take time to build a following. Some posters just hate because of boredom. Can you make the enemies level 50 instead of 20? I'm always looking for high quality new content. We have had hardly any new content lately. MA is not organized well enough to find the great stuff so the posts/forums are the only way to find the good stuff. Trial and error has worked horribly for me in the MA. I'll build a team and the arc will blow and then I'll get hate comments.
Try to build a new map for each collaboration too please. -
Quote:There's no need to make comments like this. Everybody is doing the best they can. I'm glad for the downtime. I did the double XP weekend and I would not be able to do another so quickly plus I'm tired. Late February maybe :-) School is starting again so I've got other things to do.Devs need a raise? Did I read that? It's their fault we had downtime and you want to reward them for it? More ski time? How about extending double xp weekend or something else the bulk of the players can use. As opposed to the 20 or 30 lemmings commending you for throwing the equivalent of table scraps to them.
I'm soooooo glad the server maintenance didn't happen over the double xp weekend. -
Quote:I just attempted my first STF this last weekend, and my experience trying to tank Lord Recluse was not pleasant. Basically, he kicked my a$$. All I can think of doing differently is loading up on tier 3 purples to floor his To-Hit while the rest of the team takes down the buff towers, especially the red one.
Beyond that, I am wondering if my build is somehow gimped for LR. Any suggestions on tactics or build changes would be appreciated. Thanks.

Let me make sure I understand. You thought you were just going to walk up to Recluse and take him by force by yourself...a level 50 only maybe? That's crazy...Look things aren't that simple! -
These are good. I see the command line commands too. Thanks. Just reading, heel is really the wrong commmand to use.

Quote:Doesn't the flashback do some of that? I mean if you go to Ouro and do it a second time isn't it tracked there in the Fire and Ice?I'd really like the devs to add some kind of journal to the game, that would keep track of all the content you'd one, as well as other stats.
About the stats, I use the CohTitan tool(http://www.cohtitan.com/), Herostats (http://www.herostats.org/). It's not integrated with CoH but does keeps daily records. I put my data into an excel workbook and run functions on them. -
I disagree with the flavor comment. It's the same stuff we've been running. Tfs with Shards, Tfs with notices. I'm feeling like Forrest Gump....Fried Shrimp, Boiled Shrimp, Breaded Shrimp...at the core it's still shrimp.
Where's the new stuff? 1 new TF a month is that so hard?
Ncsoft is doing everything but creating new content...it's like they know something and aren't telling us.
Why 19.5(never been done before .5) and when will i20 really come? The rewards? More XP, More Merits... who cares?
If your a 50, you enough XP and merits. More prestige/Infamy would be nice but... -
Quote:I agree with this whole heartedly but after yesterday here are my questions:I would have preferred Going Rogue been delayed an extra year and half, have 1-50 Praetorian Content, have Alpha through Omega Incarnates, and yes, I’d have shelled out an extra 20-50 bucks for that. Sadly, the accountants dealing with CoH didn’t see that as viable, and, not being an accountant.
1. What are they doing inside PS? I thought the content was done and they were just teasing us. It seems like now that ideas are on the table but things are still being developed. How are they going to get this right if their running things so close. Are we being too demanding?
2. Why a 19.5? We have so many members who still have lots of characters to Alpha enable. I thought I would be doing repeat TFs at least until summer 2011. This creates more pressure on me because now I have to do this weekly stuff now in addition to trying to mature my other characters. After the Double XP weekend, I'm just tired.
3. What are they going to tell us in the weekly meeting? I'm not really concerned about what the devs do week to week. The stuff their doing now is demanding too much of my time. I'm a loyal fan until summer 2011. Less B.S. PR is ok with me. I feel like they just saying things.
4. How are they going to prevent what happened yesterday? The window dragged on for almost 3 hours. I lost valuable time that could have been avoided. I cannot come online and then be kicked off for unscheduled maintenance. I should have been able to get 2 notices yesterday but I now have to come online again for several hours this week to get my final weekly notice for my controller. -
-
I have to be careful what I say on these boards. The past few weeks the doms have been heaven for me. Yesterday, I got served during the weekly WST on the Hero and Villain side.
Every now and then I have this happen. Do the Doms has a outright weakness to psionic attacks? My Dom was killed instantly repeatedly yesterday. It makes me look like a joke when I play on teams. I'll go through my awakes and then still have to go to the hospital. I was successful but I have to find a way to cover this. I have tried the vanguard mental guard with limited success but I need a better solution to this problem.
My controller on the Hero side is worse. When I play her I have to be 50 feet away to stay alive. -
I just created a 25 MM Merc. It's fun but I just want more fire power. Ditch the medic and give another full powered soldier. Also, I read the comments about a shortened timer on the spec ops. I rarely had my spec ops die though, my soldiers died regularly but not the spec ops. I'd like to hear more about this.
My thing is the AI for them. During my time in Praetoria, some of my soldiers chased bad guys all the way back to front of the mish. I need better control. I can heel and that's useful but I need these guys to have better commonsense. Their strength is when they fight together. They separate easily during combat. -
I created two Merc Masterminds during the double XP weekend in Praetoria. One's at 25(3 soldiers and 2 special ops). I wish the damage was higher but in reading the forums here, that will come later.
The masterminds are fun. During my run to 25, while everyone else was working hard to get xp. I was drinking Enriche while my minions were bringing home the bacon.
I did do one group event by myself with the mercs against the PPD successfully. I like the Mercs but would like to see some improvements in the management areas. I had to keep Heel them alot to keep them from running away. -
I must of clicked this Vitae by accident/unknowingly previously during my last login or something. I don't know why I would because the others are inactive but... I clicked the Alpha slot and they are there. So let me go and get my notice for the week.
Thanks DumpleBerry. -

I logged into my account today and all of my alpha slots are missing.
Here's the snapshot I took this morning and the one I sent to my friend when I had my slots.

Was angel a 45 month veteran or a level 45? Big difference. Neither will qualify you for the notice...only alpha slotted.
-
How long will these strike targets go on for? If I see a badge for 50 runs, I wondering if this will go till the end of the year(50 weeks). This will truly be a controlled run...and we still don't get to 51?
4 hours times 50 runs = 200 hours -
I just want to confirm this.
Only 1 notice will be issued per week despite having 2 targets, right?
If this is true, I just have to come on for 4 hours a week for each of my two alpha slotted characters. We'll still get shard drops too, right? They don't go away with the notices, right?
Also, the week runs from Tuesday to Tuesday, right? -
I have 1 alpha hero and 1 fully slotted alpha villain. I'm looking for a weekly strike team for both. I'm regularly and will not miss. Please invite me to team or post so I can form a regular team. I prefer a weekend time(friday, saturday or sunday) but I'll adjust my schedule to any weekday to get on the "right" team of regulars. I want every weekly notice...non-negotiable!!

Mine was ok. My goal was to establish a presence on the EU Union Server.
Mainly, I wanted get my new characters to the point where they could leave Praetoria. I have 7 characters(6 doms and 1 MM) now on Union.
On Freedom, I deleted a 29 Electric Control Controller. I should have done this a long time ago. Next, I recreated my first 50 Controller as a Hero Dominator now. As soon as I can get her to 50, I'll delete my old one. Controllers stink. I have Doms and Masterminds only now.
I got 137 levels total. After months of problems, I got a new quadcore laptop that can render UltraMode so that was a nice plus. Teaming was hard on the EU server. I soloed Thursday and Friday. The weekend picked up.
The difference in volume between the two servers is amazing. On the EU server, I played early in the morning(us) noon(EU) till about 7pm(us) midnight(EU). I would get on the NA server after that and leveled two characters(Dom and MM) to 25 in an evening each (8pm till about 6am) Friday and Saturday night. I slept till noon and would do the eu servers again on Saturday and Sunday. -

Quote:In hindsight, losing an hour when it's a double xp isn't so bad :-) CoH is magical for new players. A very, very precious experience...it's like learning to ride you first bike and going all down the street :-)Res, I think players like you are awesome. I like to help new folks too, when I can. (I remember when I first started..I was SO green and didn't know a thing!!!) Thanks to the patient kind help of people like you, I was able to progress and enjoy the game. Seven years later, I feel the same way. Keep being helpful.
