Quote:This is one of the big issues I have with Champions Online. CO isn't a skill-based, how fast on the draw with the mouse and keyboard aiming system like a Counter-Strike or a FPS. Everything essentially hits (even blocking there isn't perfect protection).First, I agree with everything in your post, except the point above.
"10,000-sided dice rolls" are nothing more than a way to generate random numbers. Call them what you will, but in D&D, rolling dice is a way to generate random numbers, thereby introducing an element of chance into the game play. Otherwise, a player would hit or miss his target every time (depending on the stats, of course).
Gameplay based on raw stats alone (My defense vs. Your attack) has no element of chance in it. It produces targets that you cannot hit, ever, which is unrealistic. Even the blind man has a wild chance to hit the broad side of a barn when standing in a field throwing stones. That's what the die roll is for: it represents chaos, wild chance, reality.
I'd much rather keep it, than ditch it.
I love avoiding the "5 percent happens" but the other way has its own headaches. It's the main reason I said I don't know how they'd get around the die rolls.
I'm needy and offer no solution to fixing my own problems!! -
I was going to preorder just so I wouldn't forget to get GR. Now... with that slightly confusing release and somewhat punishing players for wanting to play DP and DS early... I'll wait for launch day and get the complete collection.
I lack patience and feared I'd burn out on the new sets before I got to the new content. This quizzical plan from NCSoft helps my decision to wait. Yes, it's minor: $15 free month vs. playing two sets 3 and 4 months early. Seems a small cost but I was that much on the fence for waiting.
Paragon Studios let me off easy. If a badge were given with preordering throw out everything I said above and I'd get it... /sigh. -
1. Better Character Creator
2. Better Team Play
3. Faster-feeling travel
4. Flashier special effects
5. Better communication/chat servers
6. Varied heroic and villainous objectives, missions and things to do
7. Better environment interaction and property damage (to some degree)
8. More... FUN!
So besides 6 and 7, Everything CoH is but better. I'm easy to please as long as it plays like CoH (Easy game, easy to team, easy to make an avatar you can enjoy with powers you like to use).
And something I wish they could do without but I don't know how they would... eliminating the 10,000-sided dice rolls. Can we get away from the pen-and-paper RPGs now? -
It's not a marketeer's job to give you patience.
Anything on the market you can earn in game. It's not your right to earn everything in an MMO in a 10-day period. Enjoy the marathon.
Players set the market by buying what is sold. If no one bought it, they wouldn't sell it.
And I'll say sorry for typing anything past the first sentence. 'Nuff said. -
Good news for anyone who can't wait to play this stuff sooner. The new content in July seems a better time to play them, though (sorry for the buzzkill!). Sadly, I'll likely spoil my GR dinner by playing a DP/Traps or DS/Dark to 50 before the expansion launches lol.
Dual Pistols are amazing in action and can't wait to see the Demons. -

Sorry, that crash was me facepalming.
Scary thing? I bet someone...somewhere...has written some.
*sigh* pass me the mindbleach, Jeeves...
Yeah. Sorry. I'm sure some bad karma is headed my way for using that line.
/passes mindbleach (which for me is the Gummy Bears TV show theme song) -

The main sadly would take Conserve Power and Power Surge (elec/nrg blaster) because I'd have such issues with endurance.
I've always wanted to toy with the Teleport pool and boost range though... -
Quote:I can't play Broadsword either, but I don't say it out loud as not to get set on fire by Ichigo and Cloud fans (I refuse to add Gutso from Berserk because he's too bad*** for words).Well I like most sets in this game, but there are a few i do not like, or have not gotten acquainted with enough to be fond of them: Storm (*gasp*), i havent been able to get past the first few levels, i know it gets better but storm summoning just isnt for me i suppose. Another is poison on MMs, dont like the idea of it, dont like the set in general. I also have never been able to get anywhere with broadsword, big and clunky sword ugg.
-
I'll say this is a good idea. I can understand why we don't have it (Ouroboros TFs lets you run missions again without using your current 3).
I'd be curious reasons why people would say no to this. -
I wanted to argue with you because I have old school memories of Ill/Rads soloing about anything in game, but the highest toon I deleted pre-AE baby chaos was a level 37 Ill/TA. Even my wthheckI'llFOTM a Ill/Rad only gets used to help on TFs/AVs/Mo-Runs once every six months to a year.

Gravity. I'm not a DPS snob but Propel is too cool to not be more effective. Other sets seem more plug and play effective than this one. I never seem able to play it effectively or keep interested in it.
Sonic Resonance. I struggle with mostly buff other sets. I'm currently trying Cold Domination and running into the same issues. The final powers in Cold are worth playing the toon (the controller is level 31 currently) to get them, but I've seen people use Liquefy and just wasn't impressed enough to play Sonics. To be fair, I've heard friends say a Sonic/Sonic corruptor or defender was one of the easiest toons they've ever leveled.
Stone Armor. Spend 31 or 37 levels getting to the reason you play the set to forget about most of the other powers (unless you run into a Psionics-heavy mob). Moving like a granite snail to be impervious or toggle a bunch of armors to feel mediocre and still move slowly.
Assault Rifle. Dual Pistols boned my chance for ever playing this set. -

Quote:I've always wanted to expand upon the Legacy Chain. They are underused and interesting.
If we ever had a "scourge" like event, I'd like to ditch the Goldbrickers and put The Family back to the low to mid-level roots. The idea of level 40 mobsters with Tommy Guns still boggles my mind.
Part 1: Legacy Chain + Luddite convergence of some sort so they're powerful enough to be level 30-40.
Part 2: I only hate the Goldbrickers because flight makes them harder to run from + SS + resistance debuffs.
Part 3: Gatling Guns. 'nuff said. -
1. Will there be any new powersets beyond Dual Pistols and Demon Summoning (such as will Electrical Control be a post-I17 thing)?
2. Will there be new epic power set choices and/or will villains get more freedom to choose such sets (such as Fire)?
3. What's the expected playtime for the content of Going Rogue for a player starting a toon from level 1? For an existing 50?
4. Will there be a fundamental gameplay style change or group event such as Warhammer's Open Quests.
5. Do you know how much we love you? -
I mentioned this in the Mob AI: RUN AWAY! thread:
I was on a level 3 gravity controller in Talos Island about 3 or 4 years ago. TI was the best place to sell off SOs for cash to fund your toon through the DO levels and after a bit of training any vet can ninja high level zones.
SOs sold at the Science store... it's now time to death port out and two level 27 Tsoo look handy (A sorcerer and an ink man).
Step 1: Run up and brawl the Sorcerer (miss).
Step 2: Both enemies stare at me.
Step 3: Brawl again (miss).
Step 4: WTH?! RUNNN! Dood is crazy reaction.
Step 5: Sorcerer teleports again when I chase.
Step 6: Sorcerer ends up at top of Science store and never moves again.
Step 7: Ink man can't run up the hill to my right.
Step 8: Cast Lift (miss).
Step 9: Ink Man finally makes it up the hill.
Step 10: Cast Lift (HIT!). Ink man ragdolls aaaaaaaall the way down the hill.
Step 11: Ink Man stands up, looks at me, runs back up the hill and never comes back.
Step 12: Run to next mob - Steps 1 to 4 repeat, but after 10 seconds the Sorcerer tps to me - brawls me and kills me.
Still cracks me up to this day. -
No. You get what you pay for. CoH expects to be around for years and has already established it can survive. A lifetime sub... and I'm throwing this number out there ... may be another 5 to 10 years of play in CoH (who knows what form it would be in by 2020 and if any of the current devs would still be here).
Any number you'd be willing to pay wouldn't be enough to keep things running. $500? $1000? A number like CO asked for ($200, yes I paid it... and would likely do it again) seems to be a gateway to just paying more through microtransactions. CO doesn't have CoH's track record of survival (yet... stop snickering!).
Golden already cracked on me for mocking CoH's pay for 12 months ($144) and get 14 months deal... for which I'll admit I should have just walked away and come back for Going Rogue and not mocked it in the first place, lol.
I'll say no, again. -
Considering the CO/CoH forum wars and the whining over what we are getting for GR and when the info is coming for GR and blah, blah, blah..
+1 Rep to OP. -
Strengths of your build are lowered enemy defense, a power that gives you melee/lethal defense, 75 percent energy resistance, a heal that gives 30 seconds of regeneration, high endurance resistance and powers that help you manage your endurance (use it less/ get it back).
So looking at that: More hit points to stack with your regeneration secondary effect (regen is based on total hit points), some negative energy/fire/cold resistance to help fill those holes and Aegis unique works nicely for status effects (and it stacks some Psionic Resistance with Static Shield).
Slotting grounded does precious little for you. You're at the energy cap already and negative energy slotting from that gives maybe 2 percent neg nrg resist (the same as most bonuses that give neg nrg resist!). Stick an Aegis Unique in the inherent slot and work the steadfast trio into another armor.
As for stacking defense: Divine will you give you plenty stacked at two, but if you only want to rely on one application (23 percent ish with slotting), cobbling together about 10-12 percent melee defense to get you in the mid 30s off one can be handy. Ranged attacks are usually smashing, lethal, energy and psionic and you resist them all (more so with Tough for S/L).
As for recharge: Lightning Reflexes is enough for most Katana powers with slotting to come back in time, but if you're working on Energize coming back faster then Hasten can free you up for slotting for other bonuses.
So I'd say in order:
1. Hit Points
2. Regeneration
3. Resistances where you're weak.
4. Melee defense (minor)
5. Recharge (minor) -
Quote:This. I've tried to play games like X-Men Legends, Marvel Ultimate Alliance, Justice League Heroes, etc. (all above average to very good games) but without the ability to make the avatar I like I lose interest. You guys are hillarious. Costumes and character creation in general is this game's biggest selling point, always has been. If you don't enjoy spending hours creating just the right look for your hero/villain, you are in the minority. I for one would have never even started playing this game if the character creation hadn't sucked me in.
Honestly, if you don't care what your character looks like.....why are you even playing this game? There are plenty of better games out there, if customizing your character isn't important to you.
Anyway, don't assume anyone else feels like you. You are the minority in this fanbase.
Oh, sorry, short version: /signed.
Same for maps I don't know the spawn points and add enemies I don't the dance steps to "Arresting" by heart. I'm dying for new, developer created content. Add me to the list of happy for any new info. -
Quote:My friend has that.Nononono. What they need to take away from Champions is the
ORBITAL STRIIIIIIIIIIKE!
The mob is dead from my main's Gigabolt before the Flashlight-of-Death hits the ground.
It irks him greatly.
Orbital is insanely cool to look at the though. I have time to type /popcorn. -
Guess I was unlucky.
Tested my Electric Armor Brute vs. 6-man, +2 level mobs. Killed roughly 6 dozen baddies and got lots of salvage, some inspirations, one level 51 Natural SO and zero recipes.
Take out Kryos mission. Sighs lol, I'll test more later. -
Quote:Best part of that was their reaction when they finally got to you.No, embarrassing was ... what was it, a year? Two? ago, when council ambushes tended to be broke.
Level 30-40s in FF. "OK, guys, there should be an ambush coming after this, I've got a fedex."
What comes running up? A few level 1 Council. (Or maybe level 10. Deep, DEEP grey in any case.)
"Die her...oooooowrong...n-numb-ber... um... RUN!"
They didn't even fire a shot, just scattered like jacks.
I tried to die to them on a defender. I flew to the top of the zone and dropped a few times, dropped to 1 hit point and aggroed them. Sadly, they were only doing .005s to me lol.
