Part of people's dislike of the idea stems from the ignorance involved in people repeatedly bringing it up because they can't be tasked with looking to see the prior discussions (even though they should, according to the rules).

It's not hard to sit down and think out why it's not a good idea. If you can't do that, it's even easier to use a search tool to find out why it's not a good idea.

If there's blowback for not doing either of those two easy things, whose fault is it?

I think your points are why a merger will never happen. For the record, I personally don't have problems finding teams either and my SG is huge just as my friends list is at max, so how bout we stop jumping on me for posting this. : D Hahaha I give, I give. hahaha

As leader of my sg I just got an email today about this subject so that's why I posted during the game downtime. It seems obvious so far that most everyone is against the idea and that's kinda what I thought would be the consensus. Thanks for the post. : D

    2) Some people like small servers. Getting rid of small servers by merging them is bad.

    3) If you don't like your server, move. If you aren't willing to move, then it's not someone else's job to fix the problem.

I don't have a problem. I like my server, it's nice with mostly vets. This was a post for discussion and I haven't seen many merger post so if your tired of seeing them then don't post in them and jump all over me for just passing time since the game is down.

It's got nothing to do with putting in a little thought and effort. I've been playing for nearly 3 years now and the server is dying. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to see it. I'm only putting forth an idea and asking your opinion. All aspect of Infinity are down, players, teams, ae, tf's, pvp, everything. Personally I have no problem continuing as is, but wanted to see the thoughts of others. : D I'd rather two low load servers merge rather then a low and high one, but I doubt any merger will come anytime in the near future as it is.
  6. With the loss of players, my once "easy to find a team" server has become "lucky if you can find a team" server. I'm on Infinity and it's super nova days seem numbered as players have either taken a break, like I did, or simply left. What do you all think about now entertaining thoughts of finally merging some servers? Maybe two, doesn't have to be a drastic merger, but man, it's really hard to find a decent team. Kinda like having to settle for anything instead of finding a good team.

I'm all for merging a server or two so we can get some good teams rolling and bring our sg's back to life.. What say you?
  7. oh my.. you mean people intentionally gave others negative rep? How evil... Bout time something was done about it.

    Cheers
  8. Wow. This is a no win kinda thread. Although I most certainly agree that getting pvp recipes is insanely hard if you do it the way it was intended by pvp'ng, but you can still get them by farming.

I see two problems here and one rest with the devs the other with us players.

First off, the pvp recipe was supposed to get the player base interested and fired up about pvp again, but hardly anyone likes to pvp at all(except on Freedom), so it hasn't worked. Since I13, pvp has essentially died in most cases to all but the good toon builders. Before that terrible mistake more people pvp'd. With the low number of people playing pvp the average player will be lucky to EVER see a pvp recipe the way they were intended to drop. Why is this? Because the devs are again scared to death that farming will ruin their drop rate. So they made intentionally insanely hard to get them. So right off the bat the drop rate was made on a scale that was built based upon farming numbers. If you sat in a pvp zone and just killed each other over and over again with trays full of rez's, you get your scale. As Castle said 1-10/per minute ratio which makes it about 1 drop every minute based on 10 kills per minute,.......so they made it more like a 250-1/per drop ratio or 225 - 250 pvp kills per drop. This is as close as I can figure it now (and that's not an exact number, but the best round about one I can figure). I base this on pvp experience, farming and pvp training. So the drop rate was doomed from the start due to dev paranoia of exploitation and not to "actually" get people to pvp again.

This leads me to the second issue, which is a player problem. Pvp Farming of recipes. Pure and simple. The drop rate is such that you are forced to farm to get pvp recipes. No way around it unless you are rich from "farming AE", so where do we go from here? Nowhere that's where. heheheh I mean it's a no win situation for us as players cause the drop rate won't change. And Farming(grinding in this case) can't be stopped as long as things are so hard to get.

These pvp recipes are great, they really are but wow they are hard to get, which is exactly what the devs want and exactly why the recipes will be farmed to get. The only solution I see is somehow turning the pvp reputation into a meter or scale or something that allows for tkts or merits which can be redeemed into these allusive pvp recipes. Yeah, it's not perfect and can still be exploited but not to the extent of what's already being done to get these recipes. At what point in your pvp rep would you get tokens or merits would have to be worked out and all, but at least it's an idea thats a little bit more fair to the lower populated servers. At least to me it seems so.

Anyway, that's my thought on it. Just a overview and not too terribly in depth.

  10. What's AE? : P What's life without a little grind? I think AE has maybe ruined the Black Market for sure, but doesn't everyone wear overalls at one point or another? I seem to play the game in equal parts, AE, then reg mish's then some tf's, ae, reg mish's then more tf's.

    Tkts, drops and purples, Merits.
  11. I find this excellent news in that my low level Heroes can now get to Fire base zulu and buy jet packs so they can fly.. Finally.

...err wait.. what about teams split between zones? Example: you've just exited a completed mish and the leader is in a different zone. What will happen to the lowbies then? Will they still be auto leveled to the leaders level while in different zones?
  12. Maint today is to try to fix or help the dreaded server instability on all North American servers.

Packet loss and lag (a delay in the information being received between hosts) can happen any where along the route. Based on that route while it can be subjectively compared (I don't lag while playing on this game while I do here), it cannot really be objectively compared unless the path is identical which is just not going to happen. Then and only then can you compare them directly.

Which leads us to 3, if the lag is occurring somewhere in the route between your client and theirs it most certainly is not NCSoft's responsibility to fix it. Now they can certainly pinpoint the problem area based on problem reports submitted through customer service requests and reach out to the owner of the host with the problem. With the hope that they resolve it but, it is ultimately the owner of that hosts issue to resolve.

Regarding 4, as I have said before, others do not have this problem. This does not discount that you are or that others are. There are two problems with the statement: 1) it is just as anecdotal as saying I do not and neither do the people I talk to in game and 2) If it was specific to the Server itself then EVERYONE would have this issue, just as I stated before. I know that is not the case. Why? Because of my anecdotal evidence, I don't have the issue. You can believe it or not. Regardless, I have direct information that eliminates this as a cause. You saying others have it will not change that fact.

BTW, both Guardian and Justice are in the same location. It is unsurprising that both do not have lag for you.

Funny that maint today is to fix the servers that they just admitted had instability issues. In addition they apologized for the bad server performance and will be giving us another double xp weekend because of it. So you are wrong, wrong on most of what you just said. And BTW if the server is acting up then it does not mean everyone will have issues.

That's why there's a server maintenance and reset every Mon and Fri. Again, it used to be worse and they had to have maintenance every day. Also, it used to be that one would expect a busy server like Virtue to crash every Sunday night.

I know that saying "it's not as bad now as it used to be," doesn't resolve anything... it's just the way things are. It would be like having a two hour wait to be seated at a very busy restaurant at a peak time at a peak season.
Typical reply to a post here by someone who just takes what ever happens as "it's just Suppose to" and lets all game instability issues just go by without saying a word about and even defending it. OMG and guess what???? There IS going to be another double xp weekend because the devs know that the game crashed on thousands of people over and over and over again because of the SERVERS and not us players. ARRghh that felt good. Not trying to jump on you but so tired of game problems being defended like by just saying that's the way it is. IT DOENSNT" HAVE TO BE. : D sure some people didn't have a problem but thousands of people did that have great pc's and computers and my hats off to devs for finally doing something because of the server's instability. Maint today will hopefully finally do something about it or at least help cut the instability down and please, to all of you that defend all the problems this game has please, please stop. Everyone knows nothing is perfect. This is my favorite game and I love it. I won't lie and say I don't, but it's got allot of issues now and playing through them without being affected by them is getting harder and harder to do these days. The fact we pay for this game gives us the right, yes the right to ask for things to be fixed.

So thanks devs for trying to fix some of the instability of these servers. Seriously, it helps to know that you a trying.

EDIT: And while it could have been pointed out better (Oh, the forums we post in!), the OP still hasn't exactly been the most level-headed, polite, or understanding person about it when it was brought up. (I was tempted to use the term 'ignorant little twerp' somewhere in there, but found it contrary to my goal here and a little more rude then I felt like being. However, not quite rude or contrary enough not to go on record as being considered.)

You actually did use "ignorant little twerp". You are no better. Far from it as it appears.

    Ok.. try this... elec/ninja stalker.

I promise you will not be disappointed. Take all the aoe powers from electric along with charged brawl and havoc punch. this toon is a pve powerhouse that is fun to play. Very fun to play. And if you ever decide to play on teams, take tp power set and you are a monster team tf stalker that can shortcut mish's and get things done all by your lonesome if need be....

Just my two cents of course. ; D
  18. I will try to be there at 8pm. I can bring my perma dom mind/psi Cerebral Ache. with two on team we can try Master of Lord Recluse badge run as well. ; D Just a thought. Have done many tf's with Trance.

    I have a question and a challenge.

I tried to find a consolidated listing/thread like this but could not, though I did find a couple individual listings.

I'd heard a lot of rumors about strong TF/SF teams out there doing TF/SFs in really incredible times, but I found no consolidated thread where people could post screen shots and team make-ups.

So I wanted to know if anyone was willing to post their Final screen shots from any TF/SF.

    Info needed to make it work would be the following;

    1. Link to Screen Shot with finishing time of which ever TF/SF.

    2. Team make-up
    a. ATs
    b. Levels of team members
    c. Vet status of team members

    3. Server

I would really like to see this consolidated. I and a few friends are thinking of doing all available TF/SFs and posting our results.

Note: If my search-fu is lacking and someone can point me to the exsisting thread that would be fine also...

    [/ QUOTE ]

check on infinity forum about the Master of Lord Recluse strike force(o deaths and no temp powers). Trance put up a link to the screen shot. that was one of our master badge successful runs. may be back a few pages now.

In addition, we can do ITF's in the 45-40 minute range continuously with various teams. Will try to get screen shot of next group.

So GO. Which part of that do you not understand? Is it the G? Or the O? Don't let those spaces and letters around it confuse you.

Are you waiting for Matt to be fired or something? I can tell you that that ain't gonna happen. So like I said before, it's put up or shut up time. Either vote with your wallet and leave, or accept that sometimes things aren't going to go 100% your way, grow up, and learn to live with it. The debate is over, man, wake up and smell the coffee.

Since you're so miserable, why are we even still having this conversation? Are you seriously that intent on trying to destroy the game? 'Cause, ya know, they're not going to let you, and that can't be good from your perspective.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Why don't you leave? Who are you to mouth off like that? The guy is saying goodbye to his friends and you have to act like you work with the devs or have some kind of rank here that puts you above people so you can talk down to them? Sounds like you need to let it go, not them.

I am at 4 months now and have a few friends with 3-5 years, and once in a while when friends are not available have been lucky in teaming with some 60 mo. vets. There is so much to learn and I realize that even the friends I have still do not know what I've been missing so far because they are inviting me into their work and I developed a pretty fair ability to handle my toons . I still am not even sure what I need to see or the questions I need to ask. I know little of set bonuses have only been on a few TFs not sure what a SF is did one sewer run and so on the list is huge and my vets don't always have the time to teach or help out. So is it up to me to research all the hundreds of forums and thousands of pages of info to sort out?

It still seems to be overwhelming and that was one of the reasons I left WoW to play a simpler but just as exciting game as CoH..

Is time the only answer for me?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Time certainly helps because you learn things straight up until you're an old vet. heheheheh. It's funny because you don't know how much you really know yourself until you actually start passing your knowledge on. When I was new I remember how great it was that someone took the time to explain things to me because some things were not known to me at all, but once I found out about them it made the game funner then it already was. Things like Demonic Accolade redside or accolades in general. That opened the door for some really great additional powers and abilities for my toons.
  24. Ahh yes. There are indeed allot of "those" new people to. I agree 100 percent on that one. That's pretty much why I send tells to people when I ask them to join the sg instead of generic broadcast. Just to weed them out! Can't stand new players that want to be 50 tomorrow and want you to take them there. But man it's so nice to meet new players that want to "play" and experience the game as it was meant. Sigh... need more of them.........
