A really big "thank you!" to everyone who turned out for tonight's event. Despite the short notice we had a sizable crowd join for the Cavern trial. I hope everyone had a good time, and congratulations on the rewards!
Our costume contest winners were:
1st Place: Jacky Vegas
2nd Place: Scorpyro
3rd Place: Lyrical
Zombie Hustler won the random drawing for 50 mil.
See you guys around for the next event! -
22 minutes before the second half of the event, the costume contest, begins. See you in Pocket D!
-
Just under 20 minutes until show time!

I might be mistaken, but I was under the impression that having an autohit power, such as Snow Storm, on Lord Recluse (the STF version) would prevent him from spawning his banes until his final "Bane Nova" ambush. At least whenever I've run it and had someone keep a toggle on him (or a tanker with an autohit aura, such as Invincibility), he never called them in.
Congrats on making it that far! That is a serious accomplishment. You should try it again, I bet with the temp powers and confuse tactic you could pull off the Dr. Aeon fight! -
Welcome to Infinity, Sukothai! Glad to hear that your first experience here was a great one.
Us folks on Infinity really do love our TF/SFs. Hope to see you around on some more of them! -
Major congrats Fiery! After seeing your first solo run I was convinced to make a Mind/Fire myself. I've had fun with Pylons and AVs, and now I'm tempted to try a TF or two myself. Kudos on a major accomplishment that even full teams still sometimes have trouble with.

That would be great; being able to buy transfers at bulk discount rates like we can the server slots.
I also wish that we could transfer purchased but unused character slots to other servers. I have several that I wish I could now move to my home server. Speaking to a GM made it sound like the tech for that sort of thing just doesn't exist yet.
Not that it's overly surprising. I can't imagine there's much demand for relocating server slots. -
Definitely confirmed. Was also pleasantly surprised to see that we got the bonus merits upon completion whether or not we took the merit reward at the end. 37 merits, a SHO, and a Notice of the Well in one go. Nice.
-
The information should be shared via the GMotD in-game and in an official post here on the forums, IIRC. I believe the first WST on the Test Server was the STF/LRSF, but that is far and away from a guarantee that those two will be the first targets on Live.

If you happen to be on Infinity, we have the "AE Anonymous" global channel, which is dedicated to all teaming opportunities excluding those that are AE related. We definitely still have AE farms and people running normal AE arcs (of which there are many good ones), but the chatter for it is pretty limited, especially outside of Atlas Park.
Then again, a lot of our chatter is via globals, period. -
Lt. David Wincott's son, Sam, was kidnapped by the Trolls four years ago. Although his friends keep telling him to make his peace with the past, Wincott has never stopped hoping that one day he'll be reunited with his son. With your help that dream can, at last, become a reality! Sam has been tracked to a location deep below The Hollows, and Lt. Wincott has called for back-up from his fellow officers and other emergency response personnel!

The reason I considered it a potential issue of "resources", besides eating into something that is quite possibly bringing them a tidy sum every quarter, was the line from the Transfer/Rename Info Page:
Quote:It seems like there would be an operational cost associated with the Transfers, even if they're automated. And of course, any money they get from the transfers goes back into paying staff and helping to cover development costs, which is a win for us too if you look at it like that. More money = more resources/staff = faster, better updates. But those transfers are just so awesome, and the best things in life are (sometimes) free. I think that's what we're all interested in here; another round of temporarily free transfers. Having them permanently free would be too much to ask I think. At that rate they might as well work on a system in-game that makes them moot to begin with....We feel the price of these features is enough to prevent potential abuse, but also reasonable enough to not be prohibitive for those who want to improve their gaming experience by moving servers or changing a character name.
What do people think of the idea of Free Transfer tokens? Either as part of the Veteran Reward system (they have Free Server Slot tokens, so it seems like the tech to do something like that already exists), or maybe added as a very rare recipe drop/unlockable from a trial in the game, like the Respecs which were/are sold in the NCSoft store, also for $10. I think there'd have to be a limit to how often an account could gain/use transfers if it came from an in-game source like that, but it would provide us another way of obtaining one and potentially serve as an influence sink. Obviously respecs and transfers are two very different beast, but I figured I'd flesh out the thought a bit while it was fresh in my mind. -
It's a combo of both for Jack, really. He doesn't really shine compared to most pets; damage isn't great, his control is so-so, and he's not exceptionally sturdy. He's more a "Jack of all Trades, Master of None" in my opinion. I usually find myself in mobs that Jack just can't handle, so I didn't bother to take him. I also skipped him on my Ice/ Controller for the same reasons. Some will swear by him; others swear at him. I'm in the latter group.
AoE Immos often get Dominators, especially lowbies, more aggro than they care to have. As Ice/ the immo can be especially detrimental unless you know when and where to use it, as it will render Ice Slick essentially useless. I prefer having the AoE as opposed to the ST because I can use it to help the team prevent KB -- Such as when a Storm Defender wants to unleash a Tornado, or that Blaster likes scattering enemies into other groups. I also play blue-side and exemplar a lot, and Clockwork on Positron/Synapse are light-weight and will be sent flying off of my Ice Slick. That and the Gravitational Anchor proc in Frostbite almost guarantees that 1-3 baddies will be held when I pop it. It was also a really fun tactic as a lowbie to hit Frostbite on a group and hop around the corner, occasionally peeking out to fire off a shot.
The Immo you take (if you take one at all) comes down to play style preferences. I almost never use it, but it's a godsend for me when I need it. I have other, better attacks and so I don't need Chillblain, and Frostbite will immo a single baddy just as well... even if it does cost quite a bit more endurance. -
I just wanted to second the idea of another free transfer this year. I think they are especially valuable when in conjunction with DXP weekends for a few reasons, most of which we're all familiar with.
If free server transfers are too resource intensive, perhaps they could consider making free server transfer tokens that could be given out like costume change tokens, vet rewards, or even bought on the market. I bet being able to buy transfers, like we can with respecs (which last I recall were also sold in the CoH store), would provide another Inf. sink for the game.
So... /sign from me. -
Happy to be of service!
I like Power Boost, but truth be told, Ice Control doesn't get as much use out of it as many other control sets. It works magic for Glacier and such, but according to the in-game numbers and City of Data it only affects the -Movement aspect of your slow powers, not the -Recharge. Enhancements also do not affect the -Rech. Between your attacks and choice of Shiver/AA/CE everything is going to be moving at a snail's pace anyway.
I had it for quite some time, but in the end I decided to respec out of it.
My attack chain has two variations: BOI --> Ice Blast --> BIB for when controlling an enemy is my priority, and BIB --> Ice Blast --> Ice Sword for when my priority is beating the snot out of an opponent. It's been a long time since I ran the numbers so I can't recall the exact differences, but Ice Sword has better DPA/DPS than Ice Slash. Slash does have the egde when you need higher burst damage and is still a nice attack, though. Between Power Boost and Ice Blast / Ice Sword, I'd definitely go with one of the attacks. Ice Sword is a very tasty attack, and a good place for those Kin. Com. enhancements, as you had been considering. -
Re: Arctic Air
It really is that useful, for a few reasons. It's autohit unlike Shiver, so you can nail those pesky bosses and + level foes, even if your SOs are wearing out. Its confuse and fear component makes a noticeable difference in survivability, as stated above. It's a fantastic place for a Coercive Persuasion purple set, which is relatively cheap (by purple standards), and has the Contagious Confusion proc; that proc alone makes Arctic Air brutal. It's almost like having a toggle version of Mass Confusion.
It also has a larger radius than Chilling Embrace, and you don't need to interrupt your other activities to use it. It is very much an end drain, but also well worth the cost. I also had some end problems while leveling up, but now that I have the Cardiac Core uncommon Alpha slotted I can run all of my toggles (AA, Stealth, Weave, Ice Armor) and Sprint and by the time I'm nearing 25% - 33% end Domination is ready to refill my blue bar.
It really comes down to preference, but for sheer performance Arctic Air takes the cake imo. -
My main and namesake is an Ice^3 Dominator, and one of the things I like most about her is her versatility. I've never once felt lacking on damage (and I have AV killers, so the bar is fairly high I suppose) -- and better still, I always feel like I'm contributing to the team. I also aimed for high recharge and softcap S/L defense, and I'm beyond happy with the results.
A few recommendations:
1) Having Arctic Air, Shiver, AND Chilling Embrace is something of overkill. One of them alone will cripple most enemies and AVs are going to seriously resist the -Rech debuff. Here is ParagonWiki's entry on -Recharge and AV Debuff Scaling. I would highly recommend keeping Arctic Air unless you're adverse to getting into melee, but one or both of the others can go with minimal impact on effectiveness. Chilling Embrace is probably the least useful of the 3, as it doesn't debuff enemy damage like the Tanker version does.
2) I second the vote on pulling slots from Tough for the sake of slotting another Kinetic Combat set. Between your mezzes, slows, and defense you will likely find it more of an endurance hog than anything else. At the very least, a Kinetic Combat set will double the defense bonus you get versus what the Reactive Armor set gives. If you want the best of both worlds, pull 3 slots out and put them into Brawl, and slot a few Resistance/End Hami-Os. Domination provides KB protection, and you'll be in Domination mode the vast majority of the time with that much recharge.
3) I'm not sure what your preferences are, but I highly recommend working Bitter Ice Blast into your build. It's your strongest ranged attack, has a quick activation, and is sexy. Very, very sexy. It even has a little -tohit, to stack with your defense.
Everything else looks good to me, and is similar to what I did with mine. Here's a copy of my build from in-game, as food for thought. I think mine could stand a tweak or two still including picking up my last Apoc and Res/End Hami in Tough, but it's served me well. Glad to see you're enjoying the combo!

I love the -Def on Rad Blast, and it can become pretty substantial when stacked. Not to mention adding an Achilles' Heel -Res proc... Mmmm, delicious.
I'd definitely call it a worthwhile debuffing set, though from the sound of it I'm guessing they wanted something heavy on -Resistance and/or -Regen for the AV fights in the LGTF. FF/Rad combines two awesome sets but it wont increase kill speed like, say, a Rad/Sonic Blast defender would. It'll just make a lot of the teams you're on frighteningly sturdy. -
Hey Lyrical, welcome back to CoH! I'm also in an SG of one, but I do know that there is the Infinity SG Listing, Infinity VG Listing, and Infinity Roleplayer SG Listing sticked at the top of the forum, which should provide some good reference points depending on your interests.
These days a lot of activity also occurs in Infinity's various global channels. Infinity Badges 2.0 (badge teams and TFs/SFs), Inf Badge Seeker (the same, with a different flavor), Infinity TFs, Infinity Hamidon (raid and general purpose channel), and AE Anonymous (general purpose "looking for team" channel that covers everything outside of AE arcs) are all good places to find teams.
You can also network and look for an SG at the weekly Mothership Raid, held on Sunday evenings at 8 P.M. Eastern, or MSCats' weekly TF events, also listed on this forum.
Best of luck on the search, and happy teaming! -
Quote:If you turn up the difficulty, probably. At least until the level 30ish stuff. Otherwise you might need to repeat one or throw in some of the other TFs/Trials, like Ironblade. Moonfire, Hess, Respec Trials, and Katie are good; so are the Croatoa story arcs, thanks to their excellent arc bonus.
Also, I am considering (decision not made yet) running back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back TFC TF's on Sunday afternoon. With double XP, would one toon be able to keep up with the minimum level requirements? -
Katana/Invuln is a great pairing in my experience. It was the first Scrapper I got to 50, and the first character I used set IOs on. You can achieve an excellent mix of offense and sturdiness with the build, that's for sure.
I would also recommend typed defense, because it will stack with Invuln's defenses. Inv/ has excellent layered defenses, and uses much more than just resistance to survive. Focus on S/L first, and other types second.
Early on Divine Avalanche will contribute to your survivability in addition to being a decent attack, so try and work it in ASAP if you can. I'll also second the vote on +recharge. +Regen is also nice, though with Dull Pain you wont need to worry a lot about +HP. I'd highly recommend Hasten and the Fighting pool, but neither are requirements.
IMO, the must have powers are:
Gambler's Cut
Flashing Steel
Divine Avalanche
Build Up
Lotus Drops
Soaring Dragon
Golden Dragonfly
RPD
Temp Invuln
Dull Pain
Unyielding
Invincibility
Tough Hide
Happy Scrapping! -
Quote:One of those purchases was mine. It's been 4 days since I put up the bid.
Nice shots. Just curious how many months they had to wait. And/if they had to wait until quantity reached 0, before they got it?
Looks like my casually purpled Warshade is one step closer to being a reality! -
Looking back at your post history in this thread, Humility:
Your first post:
Quote:Your second post:Yep, it always sucks to have to explain to my kiddo that he can't make that [insert cool recipe] that actually dropped for him because some jerk wants to market pvp...
Quote:Little kids get to have their play experience crapped on so some marketeer can go destroy a billion inf to feel special.
Yeah, I can absolutely see where the confusion started. My bad. :P
Quote:Why you ask, because on the internet you can be a tool and there isn't much in the way of consequences. -
Quote:There's a lot I want to say about this, but only one thing I will say:
Little kids get to have their play experience crapped on so some marketeer can go destroy a billion inf to feel special.
"Patience is a virtue."
:P
Back to the topic at hand; I'm not sure what I'd consider the new bar for being "ebil" is, though I think something closer to 10 bil would be it. 10 bil would be about enough to fully IO a character (almost) any way you want at the drop of a hat, and that, to me, screams "ebil". -
Numbers for the past week.
A-Merits: 400~ merits (stored)
Market: 2.7 bil (300 - 500 mil per day)
Drops: 100~ mil
Drops would have been skewed by purples, but this week all I've found were things I needed for a current project. My daily activities consist of running TFs (primarily), tip missions on one character, and 3 - 5 minutes per marketeer at the start and end of my play session.
