    Curiouser and Curiouser

I found Spirited Away had about as much plot as Disney's version of Alice in Wonderland, so while watching it I thought the plot was one of those loose train of thought type things. Like Alice running around a Wonderland as she learns lessons to help her grow.

    and...

I liked Ponyo. It was an interesting Little Mermaid filled with toddler pretend play.

I find that Miyaziki is less interested in linear story telling, and more interested in character growth through communal society lessons, universal life experiences, and arch-types.

Leo McGarry: Oh, well then you're just as stupid as these guys who think that capital punishment is going to be a deterrent for drug kingpins. As if drug kingpins didn't live their day-to-day lives under the possibility of execution. And their executions are a lot less dainty than ours, and tend to take place without the bother and expense of due process. So, my friend, if you want to start using American military strength as the arm of the Lord, you can do that. We're the only superpower left. You can conquer the world, like Charlemagne. But you'd better be prepared to kill everyone. And you had better start with me because I will raise up an army against you and *I* will beat you.
  3. I think we need to remember development time and resources vs content and variety. Having small dedicated fans playing a small MMO is nice, but it takes an enormous amount of time and energy on the development side to keep the content fresh and interesting.

Therefor I see a danger in that having many micro games means having more "worlds" but less content in each world. Less content means less long standing interest in play. Once you've done the ten or so hours of play, you will move on to something else.

So if this is the case, why even develop it as an MMO, and just make a RPG with Multiple player internet access and perhaps an open source mod tool that the players can then create content, one notable RPG franchise did this and it was pretty popular.

As MMO's stand now, I have this experience anyway, with being in a Massive world, but my play experience is with a small dedicated group of players that I play with. The other players don't even need to be there for all the interaction we have with them, but without them, the game would fail because of economics.

This is what's great about these forums. You can post a joke and it can turn into a thread as fantastic as this!

Lando Calrissian: Someone must have told them all about my little maneuver at the battle of Taanab.
Han Solo: Well, don't look at me, pal. I just said you were a fair pilot. I didn't know they were looking for somebody to *lead* this crazy attack.

That must have been some maneuver, that must have been some battle.

Also, didn't Lando lead the fighter wing in ROTJ? As for Solo, I think his resume includes a stint at the academy. Perhaps he got some training, then some practical experience during the war.
  7. Going to go see Inception for a second time. Because that's where I want to put my money, and also, because its the first movie in a LOOOONGGGG time that's made me want to see a movie twice.

Expendables and SP I can wait for Net FLIX

I love Lucas, don't get me wrong, but what the force is isn't the point with him. Its how it works as a story device thats important. All this "what is the force" is fan hogwash. The moves are not consistant with it. Its as "real" as saying "The Wizard did it" or the Technobabble on Star Trek. (I know some trekkie out there is saying right now that much of the technobabble is real science, and I say hogwash fanboy.)

Anyway, thats' how I see it. Just a fun addition of magic in a science fiction fairy tail.

No one ever asks what type of poision the Wicked Witch used on Snow White
No one ever asked just how Chitty Chitty Bang Bang worked
No one ever really asked how Merlin's magic worked, or how God parted the red sea.

Its just something that happened to make the story work. Let it go. You'll enjoy the movies better without so much paperwork.

And I don't think Lucas knows himself, or cares really. I think whatever fits the story is the cause. As I've posted before, its a Macguffin that the character's story is told around, while introducing moral arguments to play against each other. Balance? Whatever. Bring on the angst and light sabers.
  10. Also doesn't it seam strange that Obiwan and Yoda were training Luke to basically be an assassin? They constantly say, "You can't be a jedi unless you face Darth Vader!" Sure, they never say, "You must kill him!" But its heavily implied. And whenever Luke brings up some alternate way of dealing with him, like saving him, they get all... "OZ NOZ he will fail and all is lost!" or "Then the Empire has already PWND us!"

True he wasn't ready to face Darth Vader in Empire, but still I felt the pawn assassin routine constantly being pushed upon him. How light is that?
  11. All these arguments about the balance of the force and how it plays out in the movies I disagree with because one of the major themes of Star Wars is you can't trust visions of the future.

Every time the Jedi, or the Sith attempt to "Foresee" something, they always get it wrong. Its a basic theme of miss trust in the skills of prediction, so of course there will be no "True" balance. And if there ever would be balance, it wouldn't happen in any way shape for form that they could predict let alone prophesize over.

Its a mcguffin. Its just a plot point used to hang the events of the movie on. If it were anything more than that, then Lucas FAILED MISERABLY at both describing it and then letting it play out to a logical conclusion. As we all know, the light side wins at the end as all the sith are dead and Luke is left alone to fend for himself.

If this isn't the answer he was looking for, if he had some deeper meaning, like mentioned that the sith were a cancer and by destroying them then the force is in balance, then he sure as heck didn't clue anyone EVER into it. In fact he made point after point after point that the Dark Side was equal to, if not greater than the power of the light. Over and over he pounded this fact into us. Never once is there mention that they are just a sickness to the force or anything similar.

Or if the two are equally powerful and the meaning of the films were about balance then, the films would end with Luke, Darth and the Emperor died leaving Leia untrained and ending the age of the force users. Or Luke would have to have both dark and light in his use as he goes off to live happy ever after.

However, from where I'm sitting, according to the movies, the light side wins, there is no balance, and the prophecy is just a mcguffin created solely for EP12&3 and has no place in Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back, or Return of the Jedi.

  13. In the DVD for Lord of the Rings "Return of the King" Peter Jackson mentions that one of the first effects they created was the skeleton ghosts for the Dead Army. Then a few months later Pirates of the Caribbean came out and there was talk about changing the effect because of the similarity to the skeleton pirates. But they didn't change it.

  16. Can't believe no one has posted this yet.

"No," he said, "look, it's very, very simple ... all I want ... is a cup of tea. You are going to make one for me. Keep quiet and listen." And he sat.

He told the Nutri-Matic about India, he told it about China, he told it about Ceylon. He told it about broad leaves drying in the sun. He told it about silver teapots. He told it about summer afternoons on the lawn. He told it about putting in the milk before the tea so it wouldn't get scalded. He even told it (briefly) about the history of the East India Company.

"So that's it, is it?" said the Nutri-Matic when he had finished.

"Yes," said Arthur, "that is what I want."

"You want the taste of dried leaves in boiled water?"

    "Er, yes. With milk."

    "Squirted out of a cow?"

"Well, in a manner of speaking I suppose ..."

I agree with you on this. My wife watched the trailer and she said, "Well, I don't have to see the movie now. I know whats basicly going to happen."

I think so also, which is where my worrie comes in. They showed A LOT of the plot in this trailer, but Mythic? God like? Something really impressive? No. Again, I hope its in the movie somewhere squeezed between the scenes with the jeans t-shirt Thor and the CG Set.

This, it just doesn't feel big enough. After all we're talking about Mythic Gods turned Superheroes here. There should be something more. I hope its in he movie and they just decided not to put it in the trailer.

I got the OMG from Iron Man Teaser Trailer from Comic Con, and that trailer was shorter.
  20. Needs more hero. Just, more hero. There are no Jaw dropping "OMG THEY DID THAT?" shots in this trailer.

Like with the Iron Man trailer, when it had the one glory shot of Iron Man flying with the sonic boom, I was like OMG COOLNESS! Sure it was just Iron Man flying by, but still, it was IRON MAN!

In this, I'm still just getting a guy running around a desert in hospital scrubs and a few uncomfortable shots of men in plastic.

I really need a "THEY DID IT!" shot. I really do. Something along the lines of this!

    This is my fear
So far I'm seeing a combination of Ghost Rider movie, Daredevil movie and this..

Not as bad as that, but not as good as Iron Man.

I really need more to convince me.
  21. After watching Superman Returns, (yeah bad movie just wanted a Superman fix) I got to thinking, does Superman keep a bit of Kryptonite for Medicinal purposes? I got this thought after the scene when the doctor tried to give him a shot and the needle broke. Heaven forbid someone should wound Superman to such a degree that he needs medical attention, but if he did need an opporation to stop internal bleeding, or some such, how does he have one?

    Just a random thought.

Has there ever been a time where Superman recieved medical attention, and how did he get it?
  22. I predict, Bullwinkle

    Only without the star power.
  23. Dan Aykroyd creeps me out

Nice Eye-line match in the animation, NOT!

Some of Yogi's facial expressions were on the mark, like when his rump was bouncing on the fence posts.

All in all I'll give it a creepy Meh,

P.s. I think Dan Aykroyd has webbed feet. Really I do. He creeps.
  24. Is it me, or was that trailer 90% of just some blond guy running around a desert in hospital scrubs?

I'll have to watch it again for the cool.
