((Sartori, I owe you thanks. It's amazing, and I'm very honored. Thank you for taking the time to put so much detail into it. I think you've captured her just perfectly.
/em praise)) -
((Actually, Palaquinn, I like your measured posting style. I know things seem more exciting when the posts are flying fast and furious, but it can make it hard for those of us who aren't able to post at all hours to get our characters involved in the story.
Not that it stops me.
Hmm...critiques...
You know, I need to think about this. If I'm going to offer feedback and upgrades, I want them to be measured and well thought out. I'll probably focus more on general across-the-board improvements rather than picking out specific authors. That said, I'm interested to hear from folks how I might improve my own storytelling. I promise a 24-hour waiting period before any inflammatory PMs.
An interesting thread idea. Thanks for starting it up.)) -
((You'll find pockets of RP on all the servers, so definitely shop around.
That said, Virtue is the "unofficial" RP server.
There are plenty of folks I know on other servers who run heavy-RP SG/VGs. Feel free to send me a PM and I'll try to put you in touch with them.
Check out the Server boards - bottom of the Main page. Hope to see you around!)) -
((Virtue.
RP also exists on other servers. I'd suggest checking out the Server-dedicated section of the forum - bottom of the main page.
Good luck!)) -

If you see someone play a victory well, that's one thing. I think when you see someone play a defeat well, though, that's when you're watching a mature roleplayer.

((Quoted for Truth. Personally, I like putting my characters through hell. It really lets me see the limits of their personalities, and it lets them develop organically, more like a real person. Do I have shallow characters? Absolutely! Do I like playing them? Heck yah! But I get even more enjoyment out of putting one of my more-developed characters into a sticky situtation and then sitting back to watch and see how they get out of it.)) -

Alice stood quietly, waiting for the others in her row to exit the helicopter. She followed them in turn, smoothing out her dress and apron. The Handmaiden had said that this was to be her new home.
She watched the scene in front of her with an impassive eye. There was truly nothing remarkable about her. She was quite average looking, with mousy brown hair and wide brown eyes. She wore a blue dress and white apron cut in a child's style. White stockings and black Mary Janes accompanied the outfit, as did a silver omega symbol on a chain around her neck. She clutched a stuffed rabbit in one hand.
As the scene unfolded, she stood ram-rod straight with her hands clasped behind her back, rocking back and forth on her heels.
"I say, Cat, it looks like there is going to be a fight," she said in a light British accent, addressing the empty air to her right. "Perhaps we should move on." -
<Click. Whirrr.>
An image appears on the screen, out of focus. As the cameraman adjusts the picture, the following audio track is heard.
"Officer Jenkins, conducting Interview Number One with Prisoner Number 257. Officer Smith is operating the camera."
The image is finally in focus. A young girl is sitting at a wooden table. She is average, with dark brown hair and large brown eyes. Her expression is passive. It appears she is wearing a blue dress with puffy sleeves and a white smock or apron over it. She clutches a battered stuffed bunny.
"Prisoner Number 257, state your name for the record."
The girl barely opens her mouth to reply. Her voice is tinged with a slight upper-crust British accent.
"My name is Alice Carroll."
---------------------------
Arachnos soliders gather in groups to receive their assignments. One group of three stands off to the side, being briefed by a Fortunata Seer.
"The child you seek is very fragile. She has been drugged and may react violently. It is imperative that she not be harmed. Physical abuse could lead to further damage of her psyche."
---------------------------
The tape continues.
"How did you end up in Paragon City, Alice?"
The girl pauses, and looks over into the corner of the room. She appears to be listening to something.
"I don't know."
---------------------------
The cell wasn't padded. The pills kept her from being violent. They also kept Cat from coming to visit. She missed Cat. She was sure he was on the other side of the wall. She had tried to get to him, but Nurse had given her more pills. At least she still
had Rabbit.
---------------------------
"How old are you Alice?"
"I am fifteen, this May."
"Where is your family?"
"Gone."
"What happened to them?"
There is a pause. The girl's eyes again go to the corner.
"They died."
"Who do you keep looking at, Alice?"
"Cat."
---------------------------
The explosions had rocked the prison, but she remained where she was. Safe in the little corner here, which exhibited evidence of her attempts to get to Cat. Long gouges in the wall were stained a rusty red. Her hands were bandaged.
---------------------------
"How did your family die, Alice?"
"Cousin Ernie set the house afire."
"Why did Ernie set the house on fire?"
"He was mad at me."
"Why was he mad at you, Alice?"
"I killed his Father."
---------------------------
Arachnos soldiers flood the prison. A perimeter is established to fight off the waves of Longbow and Heroes. Several search and rescue teams enter the prison. One group of three splits off and heads for the Woman's Solitary Wing.
"Keep an eye out! She may be loose already!"
---------------------------
There is a moment of stunned silence, followed by the rustling of paper.
"Wh-why did you kill Ernie's father, Alice?"
"He hurt me."
The girl's eyes close for a moment and she clutches the stuffed bunny tighter.
"When did this happen, Alice?"
"Three summers ago. August 1864."
A glass clatters in the background.
--------------------------
The Arachnos rescue team has arrived at a cell. With a nod from the Captain, one soldier begins to smash in the lock.
--------------------------
"When did Ernie burn the house down, then?"
"Two winters ago. November 1865."
"How did you survive, Alice?"
The girl blinks.
"Cat saved me and Rabbit."
--------------------------
There were people outside her cell. They were not Nurse. The door fell and there they stood. With red eyes and helmets. The Red Queen's men!
She tried franticly to claw through the wall.
--------------------------
"What happened after the fire?"
"I went to the Asylum. The doctors and nurses tried to cure me. They tried to take Rabbit away."
"Were you released, Alice?"
The girl nods.
"For good behaviour the doctor said."
"How did you get to Paragon City, Alice?"
"I don't know."
-------------------------
"Quick, use the tranq!"
Two Arachnos soliders are holding her by the arms, while the Captain pushes a hypodermic needle into her bicep.
"No! I won't go back! Cat! Cat! Where are you?"
-------------------------
"Why did you hurt the man in the alley, Alice?"
"He tried to hurt me. He laughed at Rabbit."
"Did he touch you?"
"Yes. Cat said it was okay to defend myself."
"With a butcher knife?"
<Click. Whirrr.>
The image flashes out.
-------------------------
The Arachnos search and rescue party carries their cargo swiftly out of the burning prison. Regrouping at a transport, they
hand the unconscious form to the Fortunata.
"You were supposed to rescue her, not knock her out!"
The Captain shrugs.
"We got the bunny."
-------------------------
"She will make a good candidate for the school."
"Are you quite sure, Fortunata Delinda? She seems...fragile."
"She is. But quite focused. We have...repaired some of the damage from the prison drugs."
"What about the culture shock?"
"Other than an odd attachment to her original clothes, and that stuffed bunny, she's adapting quite well."
"You've filled her in on the events of the last hundred and thirty odd years?"
The Seer nodds silently.
Glances are exchanged around the table.
"We'll see her on the first day of class then."
((OOC: not brief, and I'll post her entrance to school after I finish playing CoV. hee hee)) -

Chris then proceeded to encase the new student's feet in ice as best as he could. "This should cool you down. Oh and by the way my name is is Chris " Cool Mint " Coffey, and here is your new schedule card. You don't need a new one Raggity Ann you can stay here if you want."
[/ QUOTE ]
Susan laughed. "You two are too much! Quit posturing and let's work this out as gentlemen...adults...nevermind." She snatched Billyboy's original schedule card and compared it to her own. "Yup, right room on both." She looked at Chris. "We could make it into a triple, I suppose. My parents will have a heart attack when they hear this."
Turning, Susan ran her hand over the wall near her bed. "I hate this wallpaper anyway. Should we knock it out? Then we'd have space for three." What am I doing? she wondered. Why should I stay here with these two psychos? She snickered quietly. 'Cause it'll be fun.... -
((Heads up Billyboy! Here comes PerkyGoth! ;-p ))
Susan Mayer watched the cab speed off. Really, she hadn't been that bad of a fare. It wasn't her fault that the upholstery had been punctured by her thorns. If he hadn't managed to hit every single speed bump, she might not have been so uncontrolled. Susan shrugged, and started the walk up the garden path towards the Administration Office.
"Can I help you?" The older woman behind the desk looked up at Susan with a smile. Her nameplate said "Mrs. Bachelor."
"Yeah...I've just transferred in. Susan Mayer." Susan handed over a packet that contained her transcript and course list from her last school, along with her immunization records and emergency contact information. She had promised to call her parents at least once a week. They were a little worried about her, but they had their hands full with her older sister and younger brother. Having a science experiment living at home was a bit much.
"Welcome to Golden Eagle High, Susan. You're assigned to room #6108. Here's a map of the campus, and the schedule for your classes. You'll start tomorrow. Your roommate has already arrived. He's a bit older than you, so if there are any problems, let me know and I'll reassign you."
"He?" Susan raised an eyebrow. "I have to live with a boy?"
Mrs. Bachelor laughed. "We believe in teamwork here. We've extended that to our rooming situation. It's worked out so far." She smiled. "You'll be fine dear. Now go drop your stuff off and hurry back to the cafeteria for dinner. You'll have plenty of time to explore the campus afterward."
Susan hoisted her duffel bag back on her shoulder, and picked up the map. After a moment of studying it, she headed off in the direction of her new home.
--------
Only a few wrong turns later, Susan punched the "up" button for the elevator in the dorm. There was no way she was lugging her junk up 6 flights of stairs. No Sir. When the elevator finally spit her out on the sixth floor, Susan was beyond irritated. It might have been easier to take the stairs after all. Faster anyway.
Dragging her duffel bag behind her, she headed down the hall. Locating #6108, she took a deep breath and put her key in the lock. The door opened immediately, and she blinked at the chaos that greeted her.
"E-gad! What's with the flowers?" Susan stared at the unoccupied side of the room. It had been decorated for a ... girly girl. Flowers, hearts, and ugh. Sprites. Pictures of little flying people. "This won't do at all. We'll have to repaint." She addressed her last sentence to the boy in the room playing a portable game.
Susan threw her duffel bag onto her bed, and looked at herself in the mirror. Long orange pigtails, check. Bright shining blue eyes, check. Blue button-down shirt with minimal rips, check. Tartan short skirt, check. Leg warmers and Mary Janes, check. Yup, she was ready to face the cafeteria.
Walking over to her roommate, she stared at him for a moment. "I'm Susan. Want to go get food?"
((OOC: Okay, so Susan's got grav/thorn powers - the dominator set from CoV. But she's not a villain. Yet. So treat her as a hybrid grav controller/spines scrapper. I'll develop it more as we go along. Also, decided to make a support staff character, rather than a teacher. Hope that's okay. Greetings!)) -
