  1. Oh well maybe my issue is different because my game doesn't mapserve. It utterly crashes and I have to let the CoX updater check files for errors or whatever it does. I always submit that little report thingy that comes up when it crashes due to that so...
  2. I've had this happen a couple times on various characters myself. My blaster went to use WW and the game crashed (pre-i16.) Then about 2 days after i16 it happened again, but not on the first character I logged in with. Then it happened a third time about late last week. So three times for me it's happened. I have been trying to duplicate the circumstances, but no luck on trying to break the game again so we can make it a positive issue.

    Intermittent bugs suck.

That won't be it. The CoH patcher will automatically correct any errors in corrupt files be downloading new ones from the CoH servers.

I used to have the same problem with XP a long time ago. Two things: Are you running a multi-GPU video card? if so, disable Multi-GPU mode and try it that way. For me it hangs on that screen for a bit when I'm in multi-GPU mode and once I disabled it, I was fine.

Another, back on XP, I just had to wait like.. 5-10 minutes for it to do anything. So I don't know what I did to fix that, but it fixed itself over time.
  4. After a quick glance over your system specs there I'd have to say that it may be time to get something a bit stronger.

Have you turned your graphics down to minimum and played with slowly turning them up to get optimal graphics to frame rate ratio? I would start there as the lower range computers, such as a P4, aren't capable of handling as much as you're running now.

Also keep in mind that as the devs patch things, they are always adding graphic tweaks and improvements to make the game look better and meet today's growing standards for game graphics.

So I would recommend starting at turning all your graphic settings to minimum and going from there. I know running on my machine, I get no lag at all, then again my machine cost me a whole lot of money >.<
  5. Haha, no worries. As you can see from the basic specs I gave for my computer, it can handle CoH at the highest settings.

I get a tiny bit of lag once in a while, but eh. It doesn't bother me much since it's very seldom and I don't usually notice it (I was used to running CoH on a 128 mb AGP card when I first started playing.)
  6. Thanks! That was really helpful! And now I know!
  7. Will this mean I would have to get a seperate PhysX PPU then and I'll be unable to use the integrated one on my video card? I suppose that's all I'm asking here.
  8. Okay, here's the gist of things...

    OS: Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q8500
    Motherboard: ASUS P5Q Pro Turbo
    RAM: 4gb DDR2
Video Card: NVIDIA 9800GX2 1024mb DDR3 CUDA Enabled and PhysX Enabled

I checked my drivers and everything. I have latest NVIDIA 9 series drivers and the PhysX drivers as well. Have it enabled in my NVIDIA panel and everything.

When I go into the CoX display options, enabling PhysX particle physics is grayed out and I can't enable it. Is there anything I'm doing wrong? I wanna see the game with the PhysX particle effects!

    Halp!
  9. Operating System Windows Vista Ultimate
CPU Type Intel Core 2 Quad Q8500
    System Memory 4096 MB
    Video Adapter NVIDIA GeForce 9800GX2 1024MB DDR3
    Network Adapter ASUS Gigabit LAN

That's what I'm running. I have a feeling it might have something to do with the NVIDIA cards or something.

But yeah, I blindly clicked away once I knew I was into the server selection screen. Once the character choices popped up, I could see enough to be able to get in game and fiddle with my resolution settings until I could get to Windowed Mode. Once in Windowed, it was working perfectly fine.
  10. I managed to fix it. I was able to get in game and I could see the game, just not my windows very well. So I did what I could and changed it to windowed mode. Once in Windowed Mode, the game was running perfectly.

After checking things out, I can say I'm eager for this issue now more than ever
  11. Hi all. I got the test all downloaded and now when I load it up, all I get is a black screen and if I look closely, I can BARELY see my cursor.

HELP! How do I fix this?

    Blaster Balance

I, honestly, don't think blasters need any more changes. Tweaks maybe, but changes? Not really. I've never used a snipe for any blaster I've played and they're meant to be straight up damage ATs. They're the best at what they do (to quote Wolverine) and my blaster (without IOs) was outperforming any scrapper on a team.

And, because of slows, she doesn't usually take many hits. If you want to have damage resistance and defense AND high damage output, you're looking at the wrong AT. Blasters mitigate damage through mezzes and status effects, not through damage resistance and defense.

Being ice/ice/force, my blaster can hold a boss indefinately and keeps a couple LTs held while she mops up the minions, finishes off the LT then works the boss over. It doesn't take much for a blaster to clear mobs if you know how.

I love blasters and when I play any scrapper, I don't feel the same damage potential as a blaster. Don't get me wrong, they still hit hard and they have cool sets, but if I had a choice between an AoE scrapper and an AoE blaster, I'd go with the blaster.
  13. I have a 50 ice/ice/Force blaster. Needless to say, she was a pain to level, but the most satisfying. On a decent PuG, she's pushing 500-1000 damage per hit and I tend to dodge and weave in melee with her since some of her attacks are melee (like ice sword and freezing touch) But most of all, what saved me while leveling were, indeed, the holds. That and I got acrobatics so I didn't have to suffer from knockback.

Knockback can break a blaster in seconds if it happens while solo, especially on KB heavy villain groups.

Also, laying down an ice patch then dashing away helps too, let the enemies slip on that for a while. But overall, I find that with the damage output I have, takes about 2-3 hits to kill most LTs. And Blizzard? Wow, my favourite blaster boom of all. Dot summon, DoT attack that is extremely devastating. Summon from around a corner and watch the enemies crawl around and fall over for a while!
