Not in W7, which the OP is using. Internet Explorer is pretty much snared into previous Windows operating systems, but W7 made it independent.
Well that's something I wasn't aware of. I've not looked at Win7 since very early beta and didn't dabble much with it even then, heh. Nice to see that Microsoft finally came to their senses and removed the Windows reliance on IE. Come to think of it, weren't they ordered to do so years ago? Or am I recalling incorrectly...
  2. That would be news to me that NCsoft isn't honoring their own "Refer a friend" program. You'd think that if they had canceled that program that they would have removed the ability to use it from our Master Account pages. I know the reinvitation program is still up and running just fine (handy program that, heh), so maybe its something amiss with how the referrals are working lately.

As for the time being cut short, how short are we talking? A couple days? A week or more? Even longer? I could understand an account running out a couple days earlier than expected (by some), since if I'm not mistaken, account time is done on a per-30 day basis and not the actual number of days in any given month. This can lead to some confusion unless you count in 30 day increments from the date of activation and ignore calendar days.

On the other hand, if its being cut short by more than a couple/few days then there's probably something amiss in PlayNC's account records and how they're dealt with. Either way, your suggestion to call PlayNC direct is about the best suggestion there is so I'm not sure what else we forumites could suggest instead or in addition to it. Dealing with their Customer Service can sometimes be an exercise in futility or at the very least aggravating, but this is of course true of most any companies, heh. Good luck to your friend, and hopefully PlayNC/NCsoft gets it sorted out for him.

Declined and just for kicks /searched for the name.

They were level 2 in Atlas....
I get those every once in a while, especially when I'm running on my main (50 SS/WP Brute). I'll decline the blind invite, check out the source of it and find out its some level 2 or so sitting in Mercy. Lately though I've been getting /tells from people I've never heard of saying that they've been referred to me to power level them for Inf or even real life cash. I've no idea where that started but apparently there's someone out there that seems to think I'm running a PL business not unlike the ones we get spam emails from, or else it started as a joke and spread from there. *shrug*
  4. Can't say that I do this with every toon, but generally I just slot whatever I get dropped until 12, then slot generic IO's (yes i know they're not quite as good at that level, but meh). I'll generally leave them alone until 32 (though I will still slot some higher level drops along the way) when I slot everything with 35's. If I plan on using any set IO's that max out at 30 or 35 (such as Kinetic Combats) I'll slot those then and there, otherwise its just more generics. Then at 47 I slot for 50 with mostly sets.

Cascade has the Sara Moore TF
The Chantry has Justin Augustine & Faathim the Kind TF's
Storm Palace has no TF's or Trials

Little tip about the Shard TF's though. They can take a significant amount of time, with Quarterfield being the longest (average time is 4-6 hours, but can take up to 8 or more with a mediocre team). The other three can be completed in 2-4 hours, depending on team makeup and familiarity with each TF.

You'd have to be very patient. At any one time there are between 300-400 bids for the Glad +def IO at level 50. One sells maybe once every 3 or 4 days, always for 2 billion inf. So, if you were to put up a bid at 2 billion inf, you'd have a random chance out of the other few hundred people who also have 2 billion inf bids up to actually win the auction.

How long do you think it would take to get one with about a 0.5% chance of winning an auction every 3-4 days?
*shrug* I know that I didn't have to wait too terribly long for the one I bid on a little while back. Took about 48 hours, but that isn't too bad if you ask me, seeing as it saved me upwards of a billion or more. I do see where you're coming from though. I just thought I'd toss it out there, since in my opinion its not worth buying something out-of-game for obscene amounts of money when you can get it in-game for a somewhat less obscene amount of money with a down payment of a little patience, hehe.

No longer just zombies when turning in costume salvage. I think the chance of getting zombies is still higher than the apocalypse event, but that may just be because I don't keep track of the actual numbers, heh.

Why? These IOs are extremely rare... probably under a dozen per month or so drop across all servers.
Why bother overpaying though? Unless you're very impatient, you can just set up a bid for 1.5-2bil on the markets and wait for one to be bought. Not to mention, you could save upwards of 2bil. Now I know there's all sorts of people that have that "buy it now" mentality, but when prices in the multiple 8-figure range are being tossed around, is it really worth it to pay twice in-game market value (or more) for an IO?

That being said, I was under the impression that afk farming PvP IO's wasn't possible any longer since they [supposedly] don't drop in the arenas. Do they actually still drop in the arenas or am I just missing how afk farming would work in a PvP zone?

So..I uninstalled IE hoping that would solve the problem.
Uninstalling Internet Explorer can have some interesting repercussions. It can affect your use of Windows Live sites and software for the most part, but Windows itself has been known to throw conniption fits when IE is no longer installed. I'd suggest putting it back in, but unless you choose not to keep Firefox, simply do not set it as the default browser.

    Quote:
Sadly, it didnt as now it appears I can no longer access COH forums, support etc from the updater, which I was always able to do before I uninstalled IE. The only way I can access the forums etc now is by a long tedious route via the Firefox browser.

Has COH got a 'thing' against Firefox or am I being a tad paranoid? Is there a way round this problem or should I return to using IE as my default browser?
Long tedious route? Just bookmark the forums main page, Wiki and if you feel it necessary, the main CoH page. Then any one of those sites is one click away (three if you count launching Firefox, heh). As for CoH having issues with Firefox, I've yet to ever run into any myself and I can happily follow links from the client launcher using Firefox. In my case though I'm still running Win XP. On the other hand, my roommate has no problems using Firefox for the same things either, and he's running the 64-bit Win7 just as you are.

You mean the OP said SHE doesn't know when SHE sent the emails, but SHE is assuming it was before the globals crashed.
My bad, lol. Wasn't meant as a slight XD

    Quote:
It's also possible the OP sent the emails to the wrong global name. My own global names are almost identical on my accounts. Same name with 1 letter spelled different. That way people don't have to remember that three different globals are really all me.
Of course there's always the possibility of a misspelling, that goes without saying.

    Quote:
Also many people get dead set on having a global that was already taken by another player so they mispell it so they can still get the name.
Ugh...I hate that. I'll never understand why people need to copy others in cases like this. Has all sense of creativity been leeched out of our youth?

    Quote:
And does anyone know what happens to emails sent to people that block all emails from people who aren't in their SG or on their friends list? It's my understanding that those emails get automatically deleted.
I believe you may be right. I haven't exchanged emails with attachments with anyone that isn't either in my SGs/VGs or on my Global list (or both) so couldn't say if that's true. But, that isn't the first I've heard of it.
  13. Quote:
I don't think you sent it to a non-existant global name. It's more likely that whomever received it simply chose to keep it and not say anything. Yes we have people in the game that will do that.
A fair point Forbin, heh. In my case though, the chances of someone on the Test server using one of my more unique toon names as a Global are slim to none, unless that person did so intentionally. I've yet to run into anyone on Test that has Radek Bahkara1 as their Global, hehe. (and for the record, my Global at the time courtesy of the rest was Radek Bahkara2)

Obviously since this was on Test I couldn't care less for the lost Inf. If, somehow, it actually did end up on someone else's account, then more power to 'em (or more Inf, as it were, heh). I just copied a fresh version of Radek over to Test twice with another 2bil and sent it properly XD

Globals have been up and down since I17 launch, but okay.
I only noticed the one long Global crash over the first weekend after i17 dropped. It obviously may have hiccuped a few more times aside from that (nothing new there, it happens all the time, even prior to i17), but the first day that the Issue went live most people were happily emailing billions upon billions of Inf and items to themselves and each other, myself included. I didn't start hearing about lost emails until the weekend Global crash.
  14. Quote:
It was likely sent during the time when global server was down
You may notice though that the OP stated that he sent the emails the first day that the new system went live, which means it was prior to the Globals going down.

    12 mbps download cable isp
That may be what is advertised, but have you actually verified that you have access to that bandwidth? Many ISP's nowadays (if not most) employ packet shaping in an effort to control server loads at peak times, or as in some cases I've run into over the years, just because they can. Not saying its always the cause, but its another thing to consider when you're mapserving or lagging. It's not always just either you or the game. Oftentimes there are issues between you and the game.

As for the rest of your stats, you're pretty much in the same boat as I am for the most part, although you do have a somewhat better graphics card (radeon 5750 here). Yet aside from lag valley on the ITF and the odd mapserver (usually due to me downloading torrents or otherwise eating up network resources), I don't seem to have as big a problem as you apparently do. And at any rate, network instability, connection issues and such are par for the course when you play an MMO.

The extremely rare Bug Hunter and Passport badges?
Do those qualify as accolades or are they simply achievements? I've never seen either badge listed on a toon, so not sure what category they'd fall in...
  17. Well if you sent the emails on the day that i17 went live, then it was before the Globals went down, so that wouldn't have been the issue. On the other hand though...are you absolutely certain that you sent them to the correct global name? I made that mistake during the beta (thanks to global names being reset again on Test) and sent 2bil off to a nonexistent global name. No error messages about it being a nonexistent global name and no returned undeliverable emails. Since that was on Test, I never bothered to contact customer service about possibly getting that Inf back, but on Live I can understand it being extremely aggravating to lose that much Inf.

Also, its not a complete lost cause. The big "IF" is whether or not Customer Service can trace the fact that those emails were sent, and with what attachments. If they can, then it can be returned to you. If they can't though, there's only a slim chance that you could be reimbursed.
  18. Haha...I could get behind that. Its the "I Win!" button with a twist.
  19. Quote:
Doesn't that have a few costume parts with it as well as the Prestige Power Slide?
Hrmm...well there's nothing listed as being directly related to the accolades, but since they were part of the Collectors Edition, I suppose they could be associated with the bonuses that came with it. Another one that I guess could go either way, depending on how you choose to look at it, heh.
  20. There's a couple others that come to mind. Determined/Vigilant, Destined One/VIP and Stouthearted come to mind. Arguably Determined/Vigilant do have an effect, its just not an in-game effect (giving you an opening into the GR closed beta).

    Kinrad +1 :)

Congratulations on your new little Hero (or Villain, hehe)!
  22. First I've heard of something like that. I'm going to assume you've done this, but it has to be said; make sure that your discs aren't dirty or heavily scratched/scuffed.

That being said, if all else fails just download the client directly from the website. It'll take longer than just updating after installing from a hard copy, but you'll be able to avoid a "corrupted installer" issue more than likely.
  23. Why only on Freedom? You do know we have that nifty email system now right?

Any idea what happened with that influence and salvage? Should I mourn it and move on?
Was this last weekend sometime by chance? The Globals went down on Friday the 30th (I think?) and didn't get brought back up for some time. Any emails containing attachments sent during the downtime had the chance of being lost for good, but most (if not all) emails sent before the Globals went down should have been fine. There may be a chance of being able to track such a loss, but if they can't you're sadly out of luck, since they have to be absolutely sure that there was a loss and that its not a con of some kind.

As for the account stuff, that is an odd, and not to mention aggravating, set of occurrences. I wasn't around anywhere near launch (only been playing for a little over 2 years), but its the first time I've heard of a screw-up like that.

    cursor issue

Yeah, there's always that option as well. I was assuming that due to the cursor issue that HeroAddict was having that it would be easier to use the shortcut, at least temporarily. If it helped getting past the login screen and into the game, then the option could be toggled on in the game settings and the command line in the shortcut can be removed.
