[NCSOFT]Not honoring account commitments?
This is an issue that needs to be taken up with Customer Support. There is nothing that anyone here can do but offer you their sympathy and hope for a quick resolution.
If you are hoping for a redname response then you posted in the wrong section. As the heading of this section reads it is for "Players helping players find information related to CoH/CoV". The rednames rarely respond to anything here and no one knows how often they bother to read it. You'll probably get better results in City-Life General Discussions.
Best of luck getting this resolved.

Thank you, I wasn't expecting a red name post. (Since forum front-liners probably have little to do with customer support specifically.) It is as I thought, however, with him taking it to customer support.
That would be news to me that NCsoft isn't honoring their own "Refer a friend" program. You'd think that if they had canceled that program that they would have removed the ability to use it from our Master Account pages. I know the reinvitation program is still up and running just fine (handy program that, heh), so maybe its something amiss with how the referrals are working lately.
As for the time being cut short, how short are we talking? A couple days? A week or more? Even longer? I could understand an account running out a couple days earlier than expected (by some), since if I'm not mistaken, account time is done on a per-30 day basis and not the actual number of days in any given month. This can lead to some confusion unless you count in 30 day increments from the date of activation and ignore calendar days.
On the other hand, if its being cut short by more than a couple/few days then there's probably something amiss in PlayNC's account records and how they're dealt with. Either way, your suggestion to call PlayNC direct is about the best suggestion there is so I'm not sure what else we forumites could suggest instead or in addition to it. Dealing with their Customer Service can sometimes be an exercise in futility or at the very least aggravating, but this is of course true of most any companies, heh. Good luck to your friend, and hopefully PlayNC/NCsoft gets it sorted out for him.

I've gotten a lot of friends into the game but I only used the Friend program once. That person was on for 3-4 months before dropping their subscription but I never got credit. When I asked support about it they said the person used a series of box-credits to extend their time and had never actually paid for a month with a credit or time card. Apparently buying cheap boxes and applying those codes to get the free months doesn't count toward the friend program credit.
Not sure if that's your friend's problem but just thought I'd throw that out.
I've a friend who recently gave out a friend code for COH--the type that if you upgrade to full account the friend who referred you is supposed to get a free month. Apparently NCSoft isn't honoring that program.

From the Refer-a-friend page:
#2. When your friend activates the trial account to a full retail account by buying a retail box or buying a direct digital download and then pays for their first month of subscription (excluding any periods of play included with the product purchase), you will have one month of free game time credited to your City of Heroes®/City of Villains® account. ... #4. You will only receive your free game time if your friend converts to a paid subscription within two months of the invitation being sent. Be sure to remind them to activate their account before time runs out! |
I've earned time through this program as recently as Mar 28 2010, so it's still working on my end.
Pardons, anyone have any ideas about what's going on with NCsoft?
I've a friend who recently gave out a friend code for COH--the type that if you upgrade to full account the friend who referred you is supposed to get a free month. Apparently NCSoft isn't honoring that program. In additionally they've twice cut his subscription short not carrying the account for the full "paid for" months.
I've advised him to call (not email) the company and see if they'll sort it out, but this isn't a good thing from my point of view since I play the game to play with friends.
At least two other friends accounts are dependent on his playing as they're somewhat more likely to follow him in playing the game. Mine isn't but I'm getting annoyed at their behavior and treatment of a friend. It is unlikely to affect my decision to play on its own.
Edit: Strangely enough I'd not realized this was my first post since the forum migration of ages past. (Not that I've ever been a prolific poster by any means.)
I'm a 5 year veteran having started playing on the first anniversary of the game. If I were planning on playing alone I could go back to LOTR or Champions. I'd like to play with said friend because I can schedule playing with him most of the time. Yet, this isn't a positive factor for me. Anyone have similar issues and constructive ways to get solutions with NCsoft?
I'm not pulling a rage-quit or anything of the sort. Please keep in mind dear super-hero fans. We need to exemplify the best behavior as our super-heroic alter egos would. I am looking for ways to get him help with what's going on with his account, and his fairly paid for time, and referrals.
