  1. Psi's a pretty good blast set too, the better powers come later leaving you plenty of slots for taking early primaries, travel powers, building up to stamina etc.

    Don't take Kin if you don't wanna be a buffbot. After 12 you'll spend yr whole life speed boosting...

  3. Heh, grav coming in for a pasting as ever. Not surprising seeing as it's the thinking controllers set That is of course it's major drawback, on 'see and charge teams' it doesn't perform as well as fire and forget control like Illusion.

    Grav has ace holds and tactically I reckon it offers more than any other set. Thing is, all the controller sets are good really, and nicely balanced and different.

    And as ever I have to make the point that grav is a fun set that makes people laugh on teams which is a great property of itself!

    Ouch!

    Forcebolt is really useful for trollers IMO.

    Another reason to take FF would maybe be to allow you to concentrate on your primary set - both in selecting powers and also during a fight (as your buffing will be done already as opposed to say Kin).

    PFF rules, like everyone else said.
  6. Get hasten in there... trust me With Siphon Speed and Hasten running you'll be able to have it available most of the time. Personally I took Stamina at 20 and Speed Boost at 22... but then again I see myself as more of an offensive part of the team than a buff bot.

    Yay! Another fan of propel on the "its too much fun to leave out" basis. Bloomin' number crunchers

    Out of the box GDF can't hold a feather still for 2 seconds and I was really disappointed with it. After a couple of evenings of exemping and scrimping (and, for shame, scrounging) I got enough inf together to 6 slot it with SOs (2 Acc, 3 Hold, 1Rchg) and OMG! Megalockdown! The scrapz0rs like nothing better than a huge mob of Sky Raiders in suspension as the speed boost kicks in

  14. Just looking for some thoughts really...

    1: Kinetic Secondary

    Metatheory has reached that point where it won't be possible to take all powers from the primary (Grav) and secondary (Kin) sets. So far she's taken a pretty balanced selection from both. From the Grav set Lift, GD, Propel, GDF, from Kin Transfusion, Siphon Power, Siphon Speed, Speed Boost. I'm definitely taking the last two powers from both sets and have 2 free slots in the build.

    Now, I wonder should I take the team friendly powers in IR and ID from Kin, or should I go for perhaps Crushing field and Dimension Shift? I feel I outta do the latter seeing as how I'm a troller but the 2 Kin powers are raved about all over the place...

    Q: Is it wrong for a Troller to take more powers from their secondary?
  15. Oooh, Grav or Illusion I would say. With any secondary (including TA which is probably better as a secondary than a lead set).

    Grav has propel which is unceasingly amusing in teams (not to be underrated!).

    Illusion has mad damage at low levels (Spectral..) and the decoys which rock severely!
  16. All I would say is... see how you get on with siphon speed and be ready to take superspeed at 14 if siphon drives you mad. I found it just too frustrating to try and get by on siphon when you are in areas where the street mobs are several levels higher than you are (Hollows, Independance Port etc). You will be taking hasten anyway so it's just one slot - its not like its costing you three or anything. Given a choice of Super or Health at 14 - travel power all the way!

    I zip about on superspeed outside and just use siphon as the in mish travel/slow/recharge booster.

  18. It's definitely not a blast set!

    Electric is considered a pretty good blend with Kinetic, drop a Tesla cage on someone and siphon your heart out... or a Psi maybe?? If you dont care about practicalities take an archer just for looking cool

    On my kin (controller admittedly...) I took superspeed rather than rely on siphon speed - it missed so often in the hollows I bottled the decision to go without I wanted hasten anyway ... then its just a question of waiting for inertial reduction so you can actually move about in places like Terra Volta.

    I think there's a build for a Kin/Elec Scrapfender (...) on the US boards somewhere if you want to try a really mad design.

Think most people have covered relevant points - SOs making a massive difference etc. On the Forcefields point I think it's a horrible defender primary -- as you say -- the higher level powers are pretty rubbish compared to most other sets, mostly becuase of their team annoying potential -- and I found it boring to play -- buff everyone, blast for tiny damage, repeat. If you fancy FF you probably really would be better off playing a Controller...

    If you want to play defender though but want a more interactive game then you might try kinetic too - that's a really hectic play style and might suit ya.

    Dark and Storm are also fun I think -- my def is a Dark/Psi and I really enjoy playing her -- just build in some stamina as the toggles are a real end hog! Haven't tried Storm but have teamed with a few and it looks a good laugh

    Haven't tried Rad but it's rated as a really powerful set... I'd be tempted to stick with it a little bit longer. And definitely get some key binds for your anchors -- at the lower levels there is a high chance of teaming with folks who don't know how they work so having a pop up message expalining who not to arrest first is definitely worth it!

    p.s. nice to hear from a Crusader again! glad to see some (at least one) of you are still about even if it's infrequently!

  24. hasten/superspeed/hurdle works for me. once inertial redux kicks in you will have SJ for free anyways - mean time carry some break frees with you...
  25. Grav/Kin leads to a lot of laughs on the team which is an invaluable asset and you can solo pretty well too.
