And for that matter, my take on this is that the lower level versions of the various NPCs you face are not up to full strength for any one of a number of in story reasons. They're either not ready to fight you, don't want to fight you, they've been depowered, they're holding back, or whatever. When you finally face them as an AV or Hero, that's when it's the knock-down, drag-out, take no prisoners fight.

And as far as gameplay goes, I like soloing once in a while. I also rarely keep my toons maxed out at each and every level. I like having the option of having manageable versions of the various Big Gun NPCs I can face.
Not true, go to RV a TRY a take on a Hero or Villlain....DEAD! Also, I remember when the Dev's had them listed at lvl 54 on info, not anymore. WHY? Story arcs have change to for players that don't like to team all the time, thats why SOME toons can can on a Villain or hero and win.

In the high levels it does cheapen heores to have to team up to take on the likes of Bobcat or Silver Mantis. They're sidekicks for crying out loud.

They're not giant meteors. They're not 'world ender' beings like Galactus, Thanos or even Magneto.

The reverse holds true for villains.

I agree with her. It's embarrassing that aside from a few outlier builds, player heroes and villains at the level cap aren't even equal to the game's C-listers at their true power levels without them being watered down to EBs.

    .
This is exactly what ive been saying forever about this game, We are City of Sidekicks at best! Teaming to take down Silver Mantis or Bobcat is a damn shame, this game could be soooo much better. Champions sucks and you know that Cryptic had a hand in this game, hopefully DCO will be better and you will FEEL like a Superhero and a Super Sidekick!
  3. Hopefully, i'll be the last post on this stupid thread! End game content and power set respec's, everything else is a complete waste of time.

Hell know man, it's right in the magazine on page 17 of the new issue I got yesterday. The page was called "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly!" It's about Cryptic and there MMO's (CO & STO) STO was trying to be added to console and Micosoft wont let them do it and right below that, it says: The good news is that the company has filed a trademark for City of Heroes 2. Nothing about NCsoft, only about Cryptic and what they are trying to do.

All submitted by NCSoft, april 1st. these are the only records on there for that trademark.
    Magazine had failed to research.
No doubt, good research man! Still, I wonder why the executive producer of Cryptic (STO) - (Craig Zinkievich) would tell (gameinformer) the magazine that they personnelly are filing for the rights though?

    or

    2) Believe Cryptic's in some sort of Machiavellian plot and going up against NCsoft for reasons unknown
LOL, know doubt...I hope it's the first, but if not? Funny thing is, the article that Anti gave from IGN, it has the same ring as most politians use.

When reached for comment, NCsoft West provided this statement: "City of Heroes is a flourishing franchise and continues to be the world's most popular super-powered hero MMO. While we cannot comment on City of Heroes 2 at this time, NCsoft is proud of City of Heroes' success and is looking forward to future product launches associated with the franchise, including the City of Heroes Going Rogue expansion scheduled for release this July."

Theres not one thing in that reponce that says, we own it!

True that, there are plenty of reasons. Although, it was a small article in the magazine and if you want to read it, it was on page 17 of the mag!

Anti, did you look at the trademark information?

You'll see it say this: Current Status: Newly filed application, not yet assigned to an examining attorney.

This may be why Crytpic might me filing if the name hasn't been assigned to an attorney yet for NCsoft? Maybe NCsoft sat on it to long and Cryptic found that out?

Alright, well thats what you "think," i'm sure they have investigated it and found that they might be able to do it. The magazine can't just put something in print if it wasn't checked. I mean, they could, but why? They seem, by the writer that it's a good idea...I can't wait to see what happens over the next couple of months!
  13. I know that, but do they own the..."City of Heroes 2" name? It's like making a company emblem and changing the color or design and filing a trademark for it. From what I know you can do that, people and companies have tried to sue, but it all comes down to how closely related the emblem or name is. This, is something I wonder if they can really do? It says that they have already filed it...don't know if it will fly though. It will be fun to watch!!!!
  14. I found out from reading gameinformer magazine (this month), that Cryptic has filed a trademark for City of Heroes 2. I didn't see any threads on this and there might be one on here, but I had to let all of you know whats going on in the MMO industry with Cryptic right now. I found it very funny that a company that already has a superhero MMO would try another make on CoH. I also found it funny that Andy McNamara the magazines Editor-N-Chief would find this to be a good idea on Cryptic's part. Weird, anyways hope you get some enjoyment out of knowing that they are trying to remake this game.

I don't see the relevance of what you posted ... something might've gotten lost in translation or I'm just dumb, whatever, but I don't see it.

Where did I say anything about being content with being mediocre? And why would I need ideas to make this company better? I do plenty of that at my job, I don't need it in my hobby.

Also 300-400 k subscribers? CoH didn't have that many in its best days. If we have 150k at the moment I'd be surprised.
NCSoft had 300k people a year a half to maybe two years ago playing this game. It was a tally in PCGamer magazine about MMO's and how many subscribers they have, although it was an estimation! I remember when this game first came out there was tally then and CoH had around 1 million people at that time. But, then again, it was an estimation too. Also, you didn't say you were content on the game being mediocre, that was what I got from your post to me. I was angery at the remark that you made to me about my ideas that I sent to this company. Of which you had know idea what they were, just that you HAD to make the....well, I can see way they haven't listened! My idea then was to, let people make or send in their own "personally made" (none trademarked) emblem (like: Pepsi, Coca Cola, EA, Nike, ect.) and charge anywhere from 5 to 10 dollars to have it in the game. That way, most people would not have the same emblem and the game would make some money. It was an idea for everyone and I didnt here 1 thing back on it. Funny thing was...CO (Champions Online) had a contest on the same idea I had given to NCSoft. The winner got in on the CO Beta test. Anyways, there have been like 3 other ideas I have had that were better then that and they NEVER send me back anything....not a TY or we might think about it....nothing! So, there you go...take it anyway you want. I tried at least to help bring in more people and for them to make more money in the process. To me....doesnt seem like they care or know how to do that, but maybe GR will? Good Day!!!
  16. I cant log on to any servers: The game client was unable to connect to the login server. This may be due to a local network issue such as a firewall block, or may be because the login server is down for maintenance. Please check your network settings and try again, or check http://www.cityofheroes.com/servers/index.html for current server status. Is there something i'm missing, cause I don't see anything written about this? All servers except for Virtue are up and I can't even connect to the login server! HELP....

It's just that Rage is overpowered. I love it, but it's OP.
No Doubt, I just wish that SD would last longer. DM in general is pretty great, but it needs just alittle more power to be something that people would choose. The increase in damage to Siphon Life was great, but it has no real umph to it!
  18. I have a Dark Melee/Electric Armor Brute and was wondering why Soul Drain has had such a low lasting life? I mean with SS (Rage) you get 2 minutes and it doesn't need accuracy. With Soul Drain you only have 30 seconds and it takes anywhere from 2 to 1 minute to recharge. (Very Long) The difference between the two are are very different:

    (Rage)

+20.00% tohit for 2m 0s on self unresistable
+80.00% strength to all damage for 2m 0s on self Ignores buffs and enhancements unresistable
-20.00% defense for 10.00s on self after 2m 0s delay Ignores buffs and enhancements unresistable
-25.00% AttrEndurance on self after 2m 0s delay Ignores buffs and enhancements unresistable

    (Soul Drain)

44.49 negative energy damage on target
+2.00% tohit for 30.00s on self unresistable
+8.00% strength to smashing damage for 30.00s on self Ignores buffs and enhancements unresistable
+8.00% strength to lethal damage for 30.00s on self Ignores buffs and enhancements unresistable
+8.00% strength to fire damage for 30.00s on self Ignores buffs and enhancements unresistable
+8.00% strength to cold damage for 30.00s on self Ignores buffs and enhancements unresistable
+8.00% strength to energy damage for 30.00s on self Ignores buffs and enhancements unresistable
+8.00% strength to negative energy damage for 30.00s on self Ignores buffs and enhancements unresistable
+8.00% strength to psionic damage for 30.00s on self Ignores buffs and enhancements unresistable
+10.00% tohit for 30.00s on self unresistable
+40.00% strength to smashing damage for 30.00s on self Ignores buffs and enhancements unresistable
+40.00% strength to lethal damage for 30.00s on self Ignores buffs and enhancements unresistable
+40.00% strength to fire damage for 30.00s on self Ignores buffs and enhancements unresistable
+40.00% strength to cold damage for 30.00s on self Ignores buffs and enhancements unresistable
+40.00% strength to energy damage for 30.00s on self Ignores buffs and enhancements unresistable
+40.00% strength to negative energy damage for 30.00s on self Ignores buffs and enhancements unresistable
+40.00% strength to psionic damage for 30.00s on self Ignores buffs and enhancements unresistable
+400.00% taunt for 13.50s on target

Is it just me or would Rage or a BU be better to have then the Soul Drain power, cause the activation time on this power takes why to long to activate. In PVP, I can almost get hit twice by the time it takes to activate this power! It says 2.37 seconds to activate, but sometimes it seems like 31/2 to 4 seconds. I mean, I guess if I had afew LOG's 7.5 recharges and with haste it would be faster maybe. Anyways, I was just wondering about some of your thoughts on this power and Dark Melee in general. TY
  19. My favorite part of this game was when we had the First WL (Winter King)! Article:

    Jan 12/04
    The Deep Freeze
    Winter Event Begins

The Winter King has awakened from his slumber, casting an icy gaze over Paragon City. What cold ambitions lie in his frigid soul? What devastating powers will he unleash on the unsuspecting citizens of our fair city? Keep on your guard, as with icy breath, he approaches swiftly, silently, to freeze the very heart of the City of Heroes.

This was THE funnest event EVER in this game, all groups that fought the many Winter Lord's...recieved the exp, not just the main damage group! Awesomeness!!! Happy Sixth and my this Development group be smart enough to bring this back.

Protector's event was a BLAST, we made short work of the GMs and AVs, though I think redside was a bit less active.

The only thing I'd suggest is to give in very clear very easily understood messages: HOW TO READ YOUR OWN TITLE. So many people wandering around Pocket D afterwards hounding poor Ocho who *already had titles*.

I'm SO glad that I got back just in time for this
The problem of LAG is due to the "Forum Cartel!" This event was a total bust and we shall see now how GR goes! 300K people left has NOTHING to do with lag...LOL

It didn't cost you a single iota of info.

Alright, if you think thats OK, well then you can keep wondering why! Here's something a wiseman once said: “The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.” William Arthur Ward maybe YOU might need another: “We must overcome the notion that we must be regular...it robs you of the chance to be extraordinary and leads you to the mediocre.” 300 to 400 thousand people is NOT even mediocre. So, now I ask you....Gee, I wonder why?
