Quote:Sounds about right. Cool.I'll have to track down the quote for you, but as far as I can remember, yes it was. I seem to remember the gist of it was that people were supposed to be able to build characters as freely as possible, and so creating any power so mindbogglingly across-the-board useful that people felt they HAD to take it was a mistake. The question was whether changing it at this stage wouldn't make for more problems.
You know - while they're doing big changes? I'd gladly wave bye-bye to my shiny new City Travel VR perk if the devs would make travel powers available at level 6 like the current competition (not sure when the soon-to-come competitor will allow for travel powers - creation?). I think that would be a good improvement too. -
No specifics, but there's a lot of goodies to look at here.

Quote:Hrm... that'd be a brutal schedule. I'd say that 1st or 2nd quater 2011 seems more reasonable for me.I'm gonna go out on a limb and call i20 for Christmas.
If it enters closed beta next week it should be -possible- if not probable that it'll hit before New Years. If it manages that herculean task, 2010 will go down in the annals of MMO history as the best year ever for CoH.

Quote:You object to the idea of a power-pool and slot-sink? But gold...er... money sinks and time sinks are so popular! The thing about the Fitness pool is that it's super super boring. Every other pool gives me something I can use - a click or a toggle - that does something interesting. The Fitness pool just enhances my base stats passively. Not very exciting. Getting to level 20 and thinking, "I have to take Stamina," makes me not excited about getting to level 20. Taking any other power from any other pool does. So I think there's more than one reason to make it inherent.
I'm very curious to see if taking Fitness out of the equation will lead to more interesting builds coming up. I know it seems like I'm a freak sometimes because I've got a Blaster with Presence
Geez... I'd love to see more Power Pools (if they were good additions, mind you) to help mix things up further. -
Min/Max'ing is double edged. While it can be very rewarding and a lot of fun, it also means that the devs can never really address you without screwing over their "average" players (and I'd imagine they can figure out what the "average" player can handle better than we can). The whole bell-curve thing, you know? Even if all the play levels are equally proportioned (really need help, average, don't need any help MAKE IT HARDER), this will still help 2/3rd of the game.

I've got one friend who wishes it would, although he also believes that the fallout from that would make ED look like a day in the park. Something along the lines of the devs could stop cheating so much due to massively buffed players with their massive debuff capabilities trivializing designs that don't cheat.
edit: I'll have to ask him his reasoning again later on... its been a while. -
Quote:I imagine the original vision for the game was that if you were soloing you could take breaks as needed or use blues. If you were teaming then someone could give you blues, buff you so you got more bang for your end (defeating enemies faster), recovered end faster and/or debuff enemies so you got more bang for your end (defeating enemies faster). Stamina likely wasn't seen as a mandatory by the early dev team, but as a help for those who weren't teamed with someone who could keep you buffed up with +Speed, +Health and +Recovery. Plus you had Endurance Reduction enhancements you could slot and no ED back in those days. I'm sure Jack/Statesman originally envisioned folks using SO's in a diverse way - after all, six SO's equaled 12 DO's, so you could really mix things up.I think Fitness being inherent is a great idea mainly because Power Pools were designed to be optional extras, ways in which to further customize and enhance your characters. Now since it was first discovered, Stamina has become widely mandetory on almost all characters because of the way it helps with endurance management.
Of course, players being players, the obvious benefits of Fitness and Stamina in particular became clear, thus it being "mandatory." Get it, six-slot it, and do anything else you're a moron.
Gah - I remember being told I "slotted wrong" on some forums because I dared to slot "Heal Other" with 4 Heal, 1 Recharge and 1 End Redux. Obviously not the highest heal amount, but I healed more often (or more to the point, could move from player to player faster) and for less endurance cost. Oh, and I was stupid because I didn't have Hasten.
Hrm... sorry for the rambling. I guess the only point I've got is "we players can really be jerks sometimes." -
Not to take away from the incredibly useful "stop being a bunch of pupled-out elitists" and "learn to play the game, you lazy dumb-dumbs" but any idea of someone might put a video up?

I'm going to guess that there's going to be a build of i19/i20 up first, it'll do its closed beta, then they'll take the i20 part off so one part of the team can work on it based on feedback while the other works on i19.

Quote:Hate to say it, but maybe you're too good a player or too good at min/maxing. I would be stomped at that difficulty. Actually, not even stomped... the enemies would just walk over me and check their shoes a while later.this game is already very easy on 4/8. making stamina inehernt makes it much easier and takes away alot of what was fun/challenging about making builds.
"Dude... what did you step on...?"
I'm curious to see how how much of the playerbase plays at what difficulty levels. There's some fun data-mining trivia to be had, I think. -
Quote:If you're going to be like that...It could simply mean that CoH is about to be canceled and we'll all be looking for a team somewhere else.
It could mean that since its the Blue King comics (ie, the old one) that Cryptic will be taking COH over again. Jack missed being Statesman -
New comic would be nice provided I can opt to get it digitally instead of dead-tree and mailed.
More teaming options, including a team-making service for Task Forces and Trials would be nice.
New playable content for that level range (or wider) would be great too. Especially if it gets into War Witch's history (or those characters from the comic I know nothing about). Heck, all the characters made for the Korean release would be nice to see in-game too! -
Wonderful! Any chance of Going Rogue showing up on Impulse or the other digital distribution services?
-
Thank you! It happened to me and I was like, "Huh?"
-
After being in the Going Rogue beta, today I just cancelled my montly subscription and went annual. Sent Avatea a longer, more detailed letter for the team, but I'm very happy right now
-
Fantastic birthday present! Thank you! I'll be playing after sushi tonight
You guys are invited, obviously, but you might need to fly out now -

I almost hate to ask for this, but for the non-weaponed ranged attacks? Pretty much all of them. No, no, I'm not expect (or necessarily) asking for all new animations for all of them, but if the various sets can use (modified for animation) animations from the other sets, that'd be super-nice.
If we can get alternate graphics as well, or use the graphics from other sets (as available), that'd be even better. I would simply love to be able to pick a set for how it works, then make it look like another set for how it looks. A further separation between looks and function. So it'd be:
Pick power, pick animation, pick SFX, pick color.
So you could make a character who throws magic gems by:
Pick Energy Blast, pick (or keep) Energy Blast animation, pick the Ice SFX, make it purple/black.
I realize this (especially the second part) is probably, EXTREMELY, non-trivial amounts of work, but I'm throwing it out anyhow. I do not expect this to happen, and if it does I will consider myself very lucky. I realize this is a suggestion thread, and is not promised or guaranteed!
Thanks for asking
EDIT: In theory (and while everything works in theory, not everything works in the real world), this would give extra mileage to existing and new powersets. A new powerset would offer new animations, SFX and functionality that could be spread out across other sets. -

Quote:So you want to play an unbalanced, buggy game? Spending time playing, running into problems, trying to duplicate them and reporting them? That's a good attitude! That being said, the need for that type of activity is the WORST thing to be going during a marketing beta which is what pre-buyers/pre-order folks usually get.No it is awful of the devs to give people who pre-purchased very little time to beta test it. I would like to be able have input in GR, but at this point all the features are locked and probably 95% of the bugs are squashed. I also will never pre-purchase from them again.
"Real" beta - going through the game, finding bugs, imbalances, etc. Basically its kinda crappy. But you want to contribute to that, so that's good. Generally these have applications to fill out (demographics, computer specifications, etc) and NDAs to abide by. You might get invited if you play another game by the same company and meet whatever criteria the company has.
"Marketing" beta - the "almost, if not practically ready for release" beta that some folks think betas are like. These are the "pre-order now and get into beta!" betas that places like Gamestop use to get you to buy from them. Pretty much all the real work is done already, there's no NDA (or it's going to drop very soon), etc. Basically an open beta being used as a carrot for pre-orders. -
Big thing too is no progress transfers over.
Beta access = meh
Head start =
Not that either is being done - just stating my preference. -
How about:
* Buff to Accuracy while teamed - enemy is distracted, leaving their back open
* AS gives a defense debuff (surprised, shocked, easier to hit) to the target
* AS gives a resistance debuff (weak spot shown/made) to the target
Just a thought. I've always liked to use stalkers as a surgical removal tool. If stalkers could effectively "mark" a target that'd be pretty cool, I think. -
Quote:I think it could be cool IF there was a way to work around the whole server issue. Given alternate dimensions are a part of canon, having something working around that idea might not be too bad.I, for one, don't relish the idea of WoW-style mega-raids, since I don't think the smaller servers will be able to muster the numbers for them consistently (leading to more bleed to the big ones, more people quitting in frustration, and more merge/don't merge/shutdown/don't shut down brouhaha). Additionally, I just don't like that kind of thing. That said, I believe a significant number of people do want this kind of thing and have for a while, so I suppose it's good they're (probably) working on it.
Part 1 requires only one group/server to participate. Upon completion the signal is given across the various servers that the raid/activity is available for a limited time (an hour? two?).
Part 2 forward would require at least X-many players/teams to accomplish the goals. However, when a goal is accomplished on one server, its mirrored on the other servers. So, if you need 40 players to do it, then it could be done with five 8-player teams across five servers. Upon completion, all participating players get their reward, whatever it is.
Of course, this might be a nightmare on the back-end of things. But I can dream. I think it would be neat since the folks who were interested on the smaller servers could still do these relatively big things, whereas folks on the big servers can do it all themselves if they like. -
Thank you EG. And thank you to everyone who's there, taking notes and such for those of us who couldn't make it!
