One benefit to using dual pistols with time manipulation is that the character is not locked into longer animations. I have played some time manipulation with radiation blast on a defender, and rad blast is quick animating and works well. I rolled a Robots/Time manipulation mastermind, and I found it to be very busy
Far busier than Robots/FF, almost as busy but not quite
) as Robots/TA. If I put temporal mending on auto-fire, it might help, but i hate doing that.

Quote:On teams doing incarnate level TFs or other ventures that feature a lot of deaths such as Apex, I suggest saving the Rez for multi-rezzing. Otherwise, the massive autohit stun and slow can prevent teammates from faceplanting. On teams I do save it for the rez until I get to something big.
Then I use it for the mez.
Another suggestion would be Sonic/Sonic. You can boost your allies resistance and cripple the enemies.
Generally though if you pick Kin or Rad as your primary it won't be hard to find teams. A lot of people love Dark as well.
For AVs themselves, Howling Twilight gives you a decent burst of -regen autohit style. -
Bots/FF will solo most PvE content better. Better defense, more survivability will outshine Demons/Sonic. Bots have -regen while Demons/Sonic has none!
-
I would also add that this solution is TERRIFIC ... IF ... you have access to the official forums. GRRRRRRRR.
-
Quote:Too bad it didn't work until the third damn time.
1. From the forum goto "Official Site" click
2. click "continue to city of heroes" link
3. Select "My Account "
Drop down and click "Account Management"
4. Enter your Master account username and password - click log in
5. Click "Game Accounts" ...Not Account Profile
6. Click on your Game account for City of Heroes
7. Click "Change Password"
8. Enter or Re-Enter a new password (NOTE: you can use your password you always used; at least that did for me and others.) And Finally click [Change Password]
DONE
They need to pay more for staff to maintain FUNCTIONAL customer service interaction.
I HATE NCSoft and their account maintenance people. Whoever decided Captcha is a good idea should be forcibly sterilized so that they don't further taint the gene pool. -
Seriously Tony, where should we mail the beef jerky, 5-hour energy shots, and hot pockets to?
-
I don't remember how long you were away, but they increased the radius of effect of twilight grasp so it heals as big an area as corruptors and defenders now.
-
Anything level 50+ is an agonizing exercise in attrition. Nobody cares about being defeated. I can't STAND finishing a task force with 10+ defeats and it says Mission Completed. I don't care for the Useless S Grant method of combat at all.
-
I can't speak for time with experience, but it appears to be mixed buff and debuff, and all the good stuff stacks with teammates buffing. It looks like it will be a fun ride. I did get to test out lowbie land with time juncture and it was amazing on my lowbie Time M/Rad defender.
-
There are many combos to argue for: Bots/Traps (debuffs better than FF), Necro/Dark and Necro/Storm are very solid. Thugs/Traps, Thugs/Poison (noxious gas on Bruiser is a formidable weapon). I had an SG-mate with Bots/Traps, so I haven't got around to that, but I will say Bots/Dark is also tough as nails.
-
It certainly does provide protection from end drain. */FF is great against carnies, malta, and Freakshow Superstunners.
-
Quote:Now this is enough to sell me on Oppressive Gloom, but I am already sold on it. The dark consumption is gravy.
Something to think about. With your D this high and your debuffs you should be able to use Proton Volley while in melee. Also if you went with OG from dark mastery, you could mez bosses with cosmic burst -
Shadey - at one point did Heal over Time NOT work on the caster?
-
My favorite Pet set is the robots, so enthusiastic, so obedient, so easy to manage. I plan to team up with time manipulation to see how uber they can get.
-
Bots/FF has modest -regen in the assault bot's blasts. Demons/FF has no inherent -regen. Bots are more ranged attacks, staying away from the foes' more deadly melee attacks. Traps is best againsts AVs for -regen. Dark Miasma has more -regen than the remaining secondaries second only to traps. Thermal and TA have some -regen, but TA has no defense nor resistance buffs for survivability. I know that Time Manipulation has -regen, but I have no experience to tell you where it will stack up against AVs. It will be a fun ride finding out

I adapted from your starting submission. I switched to Doctor'd Wounds in O2 to boost heals and recharge, compared to two Purps - not sure if you already had those in pocket. I juiced up the recharge in Freezing Rain. This is your alpha-eater. It is also great indirect damage mitigation because foes that are slipping on their butt are not attacking you. I also shoe-horned the achilles' heal proc in as well.
I would like another accuracy in Gale, but I couldn't squeeze out more slots for it, but you do have a smidge of accuracy set bonus and good to-hit set bonus.
I franken-slotted Steamy Mist for resistance and defense. Defense is a low base to begin with. The heat and cold damage set resistance that was sacrificed for the changes will be made up for in direct enhancing in steamy.
Hurricane, I switched to slotting dampened spirits for more endurance reduction and another recharge bonus. The other big switch I made was to drop medicine and pick up Repair. You mentioned that you were soloing primarily. Golgi's aren't as expensive as Purple IO sets, but I know they aren't cheap. Mids takes Hammi-Os in Repair but not Heal sets, sick isn't it? I am confident you can debuff the foes for spot healing from O2 with Repair in your pocket for the big heal and especially for the Assault Bot if he catches too much aggro. Another point, don't be afraid to 'repair' the protector bots because they repair pets and bubble the pet _and_ you.
Don't worry about Group Fly. After Null the Gull, no should crab about using Group Fly. However, in my scheme of attack, I take hover and teleport. Recall friend is gravy. Teleport is faster for distance, but I use it in missions to position directly to the position I desire, queue up gale during tp animation and upon materialization, blow the foes to the corner or wall in a pre-planned vector to stack with robot's kb on their first go. You would want to have a stealth IO set bonus in sprint to stack with steamy mist for maximum stealthing.
Debuff, knock em down, lock em down, burn em down in assault bot patches. I picked up the mace hold for Hami time. -
plainguy's build does not have enough end reduction for Demons or Demon Prince, these three pets use NON-PET DAMAGE abilities that burn end like crazy, albeit if they live that long or fight that long. Resistance shield and heals from ember and dominator style slows in Demon Prince are not damage attacks and the endurance reduction in Blood Mandate helps for -0- endurance.
I would sooner put the Celerity stealth bonus in sprint. You could put the Winter's Gift slow protection in your travel power. -
I would certainly defer to luminara. I was looking at Tomax' data collection on which arrows summoned pseudopets.
I was working on more slots on Tough for you the mastermind when I ran out of inspiration, to put more slots in Tough. If you switch to Basilisk Gaze, 4 slotted for recharge bonus in Ice arrow, you should get 2 more slots in Tough, more resist and the Steadfast def/resist
On my demons/thermal, unless it has a boss or other hard target. I split my stance to start with. I have the Demon Prince and the Demonlings on follow/defensive. From that the stance, the first guy to attack me is usually held in a block of ice by the Demon Prince. I put the two big lieutenant Demons on aggressive and follow them around destroying targets. This tactic could be easily frustrated by AoE blasters. You might want to keep ember demon nearer to you on defensive/follow. In this setup I would put the Hell on Earth on the Gargoyle to help him deflect aggro on him alone. This would also co-exist well with placing oil slick right around the Gargoyle. -
I threw a little something together. I am by no means a big expert on TA, and have struggled with it trying to make it more functional. I do have many successful levels of Demons under the belt.
Quote:The quote makes me cringe a bit. If you look at Mids, you see it says "effect does not stack from the same caster" which might be throwing you off. YOU are not the same caster. These powers create a pseudo-pet (summon sticky arrow, summon poison gas arrow, summon sonic arrow, summon oil slick). These pseudo-pets are the individual casters, and you can stack away as long as recharge allows!I don't really need +RCHGE all that much since so few of my /TA powers stack anyways, and my END recovery is fine as-is with the uniques.
The Demons, you said they run in and die. I am guessing they aren't healing themselves, don't have enough resistance, and generally run out of end if they do last any amount of time. How far are you behind the demons? Are they running out of Sumpremacy and Bodyguard range? Are you using Hell on Earth as much as possible? Are you able to coordinate attacks in the kill zone created by your debuffs? How is your duo partner managing aggro?
The build I put together tried to stay with your ranged defense motif. I wonder if softcapping defense to melee or smashing/lethal would help. With TA, you want to get the drop on your foes putting the down the debuffs for your minions to fight in. Hit them before they hit you.

The Hami-Os are to maximize your resistance, damage and heals from your 'corruptor' 2nd tiers. You can mimick the slotting with IO sets until you get to level 47.
I also wonder if working in Chill Mastery for a big AoE sleep alpha muncher would help. It has defensive frozen armor. -
Quote:Dark/Ice is very effective. The two targetted area-of-effect 'rain powers' use blaster modifiers. These are the highest damage AoE for defenders and on top of a Tar Patch are extra effective.after giving it a shot for 4 levels dark has me intrigued, trying dark/ice atm tho
The single target blasts are also very fast and also debuff targets' speed. -
What I propose is that we defenders, mavens of buff and debuff set up a thread for the ins/outs features, tricks, potential exploits that we learn about time that are less obvious than say - "I shot, they died".
-
Quote:...A couple more things, then ...
If there's an influx of new players, I will guarantee that they won't be looking for creative uses of Force Bubble -- they'll be asking how to max out healing. It's gonna' be tank'n'spank.
That's one approach. I hope some new players have open minds to innovation - empaths and tanks be damned. At levels 1-30 forcefields trump any healer set. -
That's fair enough. I can't stand repulsion myself for the end drain, although I understand it did get a buff to its end cost. Repulsion field is 99.9% worthless while running force bubble. How many upper tier powers of any other set cancel each other out?
I just shudder when words like always and never are bandied about regarding certain powers, which is not what you have said. I don't think you are stupid or lazy by any stretch. It is being reflected in real-life when decisions by leaders are ALL or NOTHING - another matter for another day.
To emphasize what Nihilii said: the team should adapt to each other and not 'always' to one pattern or 'never' to another. The developers should have instituted an in-game voice communication package, just so everyone in team or league can hear "in place, please" or "taking them to the wall". Who knows, maybe with the influx of Free 2 Play players, we will see some exotic tactics that work as well as fail.
Edit: Devil's advocate again - do bubblers skip maneuvers? -
Seekers can actually buy you enough time to drop trip mine toe bomb style. I, too, use seekers and trip mine as much as possible. Seekers absorb some of the spawn's most deadly attacks. After usage, the spawn does even less damage with remaining powers in its attack cycle.
-
Quote:First of all, you are playing devil's advocate.Ahhhhh ...
You can't attack my argument, so you attack me instead.
Nice
Second of all I am replying to your misstatement:
Quote:Those sweet spots for FB in tight corners just don't happen all that often. And, over the course of a mission, will result in ... well, not much overall protection.
