  1. I've been able to use Steam to launch CoH for some time now. Steam can launch other applications other than the ones it has downloaded.

This just makes it a bit more official I guess...
  2. This is a lot easier than decompiling the code and trying to modify it for my own personal needs and/or curiosity as to how things work.

I mean, um, gratz on the job!

I didn't. Time to reread all 75 pages with an all new spin on things!

There are some who say that Arcanaville is in each Beta before the devs. Some even say Arcanaville never actually leaves the test server, even when it is supposedly off-line...

    [/ QUOTE ]

Who do you thinks puts it off line?

The test server going down is just Arcanaville wanting to solo. Not solo a mission, solo a server.

I think I know the answer to this, but perhaps getting an answer might just make it official.

Am I correct in assuming that NCSoft will retain the rights to any and all stories, narratives, characters, and IP created in MA?

    [/ QUOTE ]
There's a small chance that a Red name will contradict me, but I'm pretty sure that they will retain all rights, just as they do to the characters you create in COX. That's pretty much standard boilerplate for any on-line service, but not because they are planning on turning your idea into a block-buster movie. Instead, they need to have the right to store your mission on their servers, send it to other players, etc. without a separate authorization from you, and in particular because they need to do so without paying you a license fee each time.

Of course, if your idea is particularly good, they might incorporate into their regular mission set. If they do, they won't have to reward you (since they already own the rights), but I'm hoping they at least give us recognition. If you want to retain the financial rights to your idea, I suggest not publishing the idea in MA.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's my thinking as well, and I was never planning this at all. I have a feeling others might not, so I'm trying to get a red name to say something on this so as to get fair warning early enough.

Create people are chomping at the bit to use MA. Creative people also may have external stories they wish to implement in MA, and it would be a shame to get these two mixed up.

The problem to me is if you let people have 10 arcs they will make 10 arcs, reguardless of quality. Then anyone who wants to play the arcs will have a tougher time actually finding these missions, which isn't good for anybody.

    [/ QUOTE ]

But that's when having a rating system comes into its own. If you can sort the billion arcs by average rating, and filter your sort to "arcs developed in the last week", for example, then you'll get all the newer arcs that have been rated 4-5 stars right up top. This makes having a 4 star rating an advantage instead of a disappointment. As it is, either you get 5 stars or you have to consider putting a bullet in your 4 star arc that gets a few hundred people playing it a week because you want to put something new up.

No matter what happens, there's going to be a ton of dross. If getting 5 stars is ultimately unattainable, you either sacrifice creating new content to keep your popular but old content up or you yank down something people like and give up any chance of building more than a couple of related arcs.

    [ QUOTE ]
While a small number, hopefully three will ensure people put a real effort into the ones they do, which makes the quality of the system as a whole better and thus makes it more likely people will use it, which then makes it even MORE likely that people will play your story.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Either you get a strong enough rating to keep your story up high, or you get buried in the masses. There will be hundreds -- thousands -- of story arcs on this thing within two weeks. There will likely be 500 good story arcs copied over from beta on launch day. (And huzzah for that. As a player I'm looking forward to devouring some of these storylines.)

3 arcs is just too limiting. There isn't room to build multiple storylines on a theme, and there isn't room to build multiple one-storyline-themes. I can accept that we might need extraordinary measures to get more. (Vet rewards, redeeming astronomical numbers of tickets, or just plain plunking down cash at the NC barrelhead.) But there should be those options in the game, somewhere.

    [/ QUOTE ]

As there are badges related to MA, I would not be surprized if extra published slots are a reward for obtaining certain MA badges, similar to how extra auction house slots were a reward for obtaining certain auction badges.

Or given the increase in microtransactions (for better or for worse, it's there) perhaps there will be an option to buy extra slots with real life money, to compensate for the extra server and storage costs published arcs take.

Or maybe after a round of beta testing they'll find they need to up it to 5.

    3. What rewards are we giving to the players and creators?

    1. We’re granting full experience (XP) and influence rewards for defeating enemies in player made content. We’re also giving players tickets in place of random drops. They can take these tickets to an Architect ticket vendor and redeem them for various in game rewards, such as enhancements, recipes and salvage. We’re also allowing players to purchase unlockable content with their tickets. They’ll be able to get maps, costume pieces and different characters.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Different characters?!?!?

    [/ QUOTE ]

The audio file from Massively said that you can buy different signature characters, like a Lord Recluse with different power sets.
  8. So maybe it's because I don't have to focus on building a large base, but why the hatred for the new recipes? I understand the issue with the rare salvage, but I get rid of so much low and mid level rare salvage because it's pretty much worthless now.

Is it really that big of a deal for the larger base builders to go out, flashback a few low level missions and/or spend the a pittance in the WW for these things? I'm just not seeing why all the doom and gloom about this part.

Then again, I'm sitting on about 6 hami goos alone in my personal salvage storage, and I wouldn't blink to craft something our base needed with one of those, so maybe I'm just weird....

PsychoPez: Piece of cake. That's something like two lines of code.

Star_Dancer: If I programmed the thing intelligently, remembering the launch settings should be easy. If I was stupid about it, it may be a pain, but probably should be reprogrammed in a smart way, anyway.

Let me know if there's anything else for the list.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I knew it was easy to program, but I couldn't remember if it was an option I could set or a flag I could set at launch or not. Thanks!
  10. Just something to note, when I install it (PC) I get the Java Swing metal LAF. I've grown used to it, but it'd be nice if I had native LAF. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or not...so it may just be me...
  11. Get Up - Goldfinger I picture a citizen revolt in the RI as citizens there have had enough.

Bank Job - Barenaked Ladies (Forgive the Halo footage) Pretty much writes itself

One Girl Army - Five Iron Frenzy (Also the Live version with A Final Countdown Prelude) One girl (Maybe db or ma or both) versus a hoard of -insert bad guy group here-
  12. So my old square flatscreen monitor died on me, so I got a new one. A widescreen one.

Question for the gurus here: since most streaming media that I've seen uses a squareish aspect ratio and not a widescreen one (Look how fancy I am, knowning these technical terms) is there anything special I should worry about when screen capturing and/or compressing for a viewable format?

I don't need to wait till beta to know that outright replacement of chosen powers is bad design.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It makes sense, if you're replacing powers because they're too powerful, grandfathering them in means older characters have a greater advantage than newer characters.

    [/ QUOTE ]

But i doubt its the good powers that will be replaced. Devs are looking to change the "sucky" ones. So then i see no problem grandfathering players that like their sucky powers? Youd call that an advantage? I call that justice.

    [/ QUOTE ]

-shrug- For the people whose character concepts are being ruined, they're losing their advantage. I'm just trying to argue reasons for this change. And doing a very poor job of it, it seems.

tangent: And you know controller fireball will be removed...

  16. So, will a lvl 50 radio mission against Malta do, or will the easy carnies suffice?

I can do either on my emp/rad.

I'll even do a RWZ mission if you want. Better yet, I'll do all three when I get home tonight.

    Issue 13 Update

    [ QUOTE ]
My guess is it's engineering, not marketing. Don't forget they were going to look at bases too. My guess is some coder opened up the base building code, there was this high, piercing scream and they later found him huddled on the floor, repeating only the words "... the horror... the horror..."

Lord knows this has happened to me once or twice at my job...and I can easily see something like that taking a few extra weeks to sort out.
  18. I can recommend WeGame for free usage.

    Voice recording

So in reviewing my video, I know that my microphone set up was really poor, there's a buzz and such to what I recorded.

It was using a USB headphone mic, recorded in my closet with the doors/windows closed, fan off, etc etc. I also didn't do anything in the way of post-processing.

What are some tips to improve how my recorded sound is like, as I can tell that a lot of you have higher quality audio than I did...and I want to make it better. Faster. Stronger.
  22. Tell ya what, I'll PR your next video. Your great cinema, my great board skillz, we'll rule the world. Or something...
