  1. I don't think anyone in the thread said they didn't like the devs addressing the "endgame" issue CoH supposedly lacked. What people don't like is that in order to prolong the duration of the "endgame" they came up with a handy little hierarchy-tree with some droprates. With numbers like 1shard per 10-15minutes(or 2 in 10seconds in 30 minutes, it averages sometimes) on a standard level50 8man TF, with 30-40+ required for the levelshift give or take which type of alpha you're going for and which TFs/Events you do/don't play. Then about 100+ if you want the character to have a tier4.....keeping in mind they drop 1-2/15ish minutes.

Now that it's been addressed so much I can really see, the high numbers were a cheap trick to drag out the usage of one type of incarnate ability. They were so worried about preventing the "Ok I'm lv51 and bored" threads they raised the stakes of the content to create exactly the opposite; like this one.

I know there are tons of people who could say they like it this way. But at least if it was the other way around (easy to get, then tiring) the answer would be "if you're bored already then make another 50 an incarnate". Basically the answer everyone has in this thread for people saying it's a grind or takes too long for too many alts is......"play less characters"(make less characters incarnates, whatever )???.

Why does there have to be fault and blame?

If a player chooses to continue making new characters, nothing is stopping them.

If a player chooses to focus on just a few, nothing is stopping them.

This has not changed since the day the game opened.

No one is being punished, that is absurd hyperbole.

This sounds just like people saying they were being 'forced' not to play their characters because of the day job mechanic.

The rate at which one can progress into the Incarnate levels of power is simply different than the rate at which one can level from 1-50. It will, potentially, take a lot longer.

So? Where is the problem? I don't see it.
That bold part is the problem, with the alpha system, and from what I've heard all future incarnate system's we have access to preview, any player with a dayjob and more than 10 50s will not be able to "keep up" with the new features.

For most of us "what's stopping us" from doing other things is the fear of falling behind with our 50s. Sure right now the only thing that requires an alpha are the Apex and Tin Mage...but what about the next release, the bar will be raised again, and likely again before all incarnate features are out. And when those become the new shiny people who don't care to try it/don't have a character meeting the requirements to try it will be hard-pressed to find a team willing to do something else with them.

I forgot to mention what SR did because I'd pushed it out of my mind. But I also wish they had told us how long the WSTs will run. 50 assists when you've already done it that week is nuts, but like him it will haunt me til the day I quit if the system is removed before I get the badges for it. (I'm also not saying it should run forever, all the new people doing TFs because they need Notice of the Wells are screwing with the market )

    Really?
It was a level 18 Electric Blast/Fire Manipulation Blaster. The speed it solo's since the "new" difficulty settings were added(god I miss "heroic" so much) and amount it dies weren't worth the effort. It wasn't all I did for the 45 minutes, I had a browser open, since CoH couldn't keep me occupied with the toon I was in the mood to play.(It was after I finished getting a bunch of WSTs done, and I really didn't have other alts in mind to play, but THAT one I really wanted to get to 20 that night, and it got no where.)
  4. The word is just a noun. The fact that it became a "bad word" from the association that it's intended to make and it caught on doesn't mean it's a bad word, or was created as a "bad word".

It really shouldn't be on the banned list, with so many powersets/powers like superstrength there are many safe uses for it.

We've been told time and again, told, directly, by the developers, that playing multiple characters was always the intention, one of the core design philosophies behind the game and its continuation. The number shards required to advance along the Incarnate path beyond the second tier Alpha boost, and the rate at which they drop, is a complete reversal of policy that existed for over six years. Not a slight adjustment, not a minor change, a total 180 degree turn to the opposite direction.

Either we should be encouraged to continue to play our alts, in which case they made a mistake by grossly over-restricting the Incarnate system, or we shouldn't, in which case they're invalidating everything the game was based on, built around and has been for over six years, which is also a mistake. One or the other, and either way, they dropped the ball.

From what I've seen, the people complaining about how much of a grind it is are average, regular people who don't have every character built to farm at x6 or higher or who can't count on having 10 TF invitations waiting for them the instant they log in. The people who have little to look forward to for an unknown period of time, other than spending hundreds of hours grinding on each character just to get one slot unlocked and slotted with a higher end boost. The people who aren't blinded by the Incarnate system's shiny newness and can see that under the surface, it contradicts the 6+ year policy, the entire history of development of this game, of encouraging players to experience the game through as many ATs and powersets as they like.

It's not our fault that we're continuing to play the game the way we were told to play it, and getting nothing but frustrated, disillusioned and burned out fast. The complete lack of developer commentary or community participation lately hasn't improved the situation, either. The complaints are perfectly valid and justified. The players did what they were supposed to do, what they were told to do. The developers screwed up. They were the ones who designed and implemented an advancement system that punishes players for doing what they were told to do.
This. This game was supposedly different from all the rest(never tried another MMO) because it fit casual players' playstyles an encouraged having many fun characters you could switch to at any given time without some restriction/lack of buff making them less desired to a team than another of the same level. Incarnate Shards totally changed that, then the WST even more so. I login now and tuesday-saturday all I see across the server is the WST being formed.

I tried playing a lowbie the other day because it was a cool character concept. I stood around and sent tells etc for about 45minutes before logging out mad that everyone I knew was on a WST or asleep(AND mad that the game was built to be too much of a challenge to solo without unlimited funds).

I only have 6 50s, 5 are unlocked, 3 are tier3, one is tier2, and one just got his tier1 this week. If the incarnate system really is gonna destroy the fun of altitis I may leave rather than try to pick my "best" character to continue on with. I've heard the i20 incarnate stuff is ridiculous to get. Something about "threads" requiring 100+ "shards"(on a timer. WTF is with all the timers on everything since GR ,unrelated to incarnates, but what business of the devs is it if I decide I want to do 11 missions for an alignment shift in 1 playsession? ) to make one of before some Incarnate aspect is available. I've been trying to get my PC to let me into beta for a peek, if the people who told me about i20 were accurate i20 may be the issue I leave Coh.
  6. The empty slots get re-locked(since the store server is down and unable to tell your PC you earned them), any extra slots with a character in them should be fine like they always have. Just remember not to delete a toon on a server you expanded hoping to immediately roll a new alt with its slot that day

Do you know the correct way to get access to the beta server with the new ____ware then?(oops I mean launcher ). I petitioned my inability to access beta days ago, it got escalated and ignored since.
  8. I have this same issue (not the access denied part), but only for my beta install. My regular and Test installs launch fine from the same launcher. I petitioned it like saturday, it was promptly escalated and I haven't heard anything since :/ . I am still on Windows XP, so it's not any vista/7 garbage blocking something.

Have I mentioned I hate the new launcher anywhere on the forums yet?

    Hmm......

*runs off to go make one*

    Edit: My New Desktop:

They came straight from the animalpack trailer on youtube lol. I couldn't decide between the 2, I think I like the solid though.
  10. More Feedback:

I already hate the new placement of the EULA. Before accepting it before each playsession was a matter of a doubleclick. Wedging it between login and the server selection AND making it non "enterkey-able" is awkward and annoying to accept each launch.

Not directly related to the launcher, but the EULA was moved because the old launcher is (very unfortunately) said to be going obsolete.

for what? I refuse to install SP3 lol. I figured my broken ancient internetexplorer is why the graphics in the rightpanel of the launcher were all out of place, but CoH and CoHTest launch fine, only beta is broken.
  12. yes. But clicking "Play Now" after selecting Beta only did the "checking for updates" popup starting process the new launcher does, then the popup goes away, and the cityofheroes.exe process was never started(Adding -beta to my CoH in the Launcher was only an attempt to re-install beta since I deleted it).

But I deleted the CohBeta directory so beta no longer appeared in the launcher at all and I couldn't figure out how to re-install it.

Then I copied my test directory and renamed it CoHBeta and the Launcher had beta again, but it said it found errors (of course, it was test not beta's files) and is fixing them. It's been fixing for 40 minutes and only at 21%. It might work when it's done, but by then it won't matter anyway.
(The Beta event started a halfhour ago and I don't have i20 beta access otherwise(kinda a shame though because when I login to the test server/test new content at these DevMeetingBetaEvents I actually pay attention and report bugs not just go "oooo look at me I can play the new TF first" lol))
  13. I can see myself getting used to the NCsoft Launcher. But postponing the Beta Event to the night of the launchday for this seems REALLY dumb to me.

I had CoHBeta trying to install the last time Beta was opened for the i20 test event and it didn't finish installing in time. Then it did install. Now I'm using the new launcher and it won't work with the beta(it's listed but Play Now did nothing. I put a thread in Player Help that got ignored before finding this). I thought I'd try deleting the CoHBeta directory and redo'ing it from the launcher with fresh file downloads.....but low and behold the launcher won't accept my -beta flag from any of my desktop shortcuts to rebuild it....so I'm probably going to miss the testing again .

Edit: Just thought to try adding -beta to the "advanced command" thing in the NC Launcher...it booted my default City Of Heroes install then gave me "Error Parsing beta1" and crashed >.<
  14. I tried installed the beta directory a few weeks ago(for the last unlocking of it with devs) but didn't get it installed in time to play.

I just tried using the shortcut now(with the ncsoft thing), I hit Play Now....and nothing happens. The new launcher correctly launches CoH and CoH Test on my pc, but it recognizes beta as installed(and updated 2hrs ago) and doesnt run it. I watched my taskmanager when I hit play now after selecting beta and the cityofheroes.exe process is never started.

I also tried doing "Repair (Consistency Check)" which I guess is the new Verify Files button, but that didn't help either.

I installed the version of CoH meant to be used for beta to C:\Program Files\CoHBeta, and checked the launcher and that's where it's pointing, so I don't know what's happening.
  15. I know I read once that for accuracy purposes of when Test gets published live each time they have to have the warnings that you will be charged for characterslots, but Test wasnt actually connected to the billing system or something.

Does that go for RenameTokens too?
  16. For future reference the "pointy-triangle geometry error" is formally known as "Screen-Tearing" .

It used to happen to me, for some reason during base editing, and I realized it was because my laptop was hot enough to hurt my hand over the GPU when I checked lol.(Also happens when I'm in a rush(being stupid) and forget to lower my settings before launching again for my 2nd account to run at the same time lol)

I would like the feathers and fur to match the color of the characters feathers or fur - but I know that is not going to happen. I'm okay with that, just make sure my character is completey obsured during the costume change.
the feather/furfly emotes' slashcommands were changed to feather/furSPIN, thats why it isn't working for most people. I found it listed as spin in the costume change menu, and the slash command featherspin and furspin work. They really should update the store data lol.

I agree with what I made bold 110%. The bird/feather stuff was my main draw to the pack and the coolest CCE for it being timed horribly wrong(while the fur clone of it works perfect) really disappointed me .

1.) You have one system thats based entirely to set a cap limit to characters in a way that once they reach the limit, they start to actually deminish instead of just stopping.

2.) Then you introduce a brand new system thats designed to augment and boost player/character abilities in multiple ways for each one.

please explain to me how the incarnet system and DR dont conflict with each other at some point. Because im man enough to say that i just flat out dont understand, and am just speaking my mind openly so i can be corrected.
The Incarnate system, with all 10 aspects available and achieved on a single level 50 will be like GodMode (Incarnate[of a God] duh).......for things like ITFs and Lord Recluse Strike Forces(which I still think will be fun to play overpowered like that).

But for each aspect of Incarnate abilities unlocked they have a new "trial" designed with incarnates with the most recent perks in mind. We got the alpha slot, and the Tin Mage and Apex taskforce's; 2 new difficult challenges that a non-incarnate would not fair well on, but it would remain an even challenge for incarnates. Issue 20 is bringing the Behavior Adjustment Facility challenges with whatever it's incarnate feature will be.

The Incarnate System isn't overriding DR/ED whatever you want to call "the part of the game that keeps everything challenging", they are just combating the new abilities with newer, more difficult challenges instead of the "old" DR/ED. That is what will keep the Incarnate System the perfect system.
  18. Just...Wow.

The animal pack is great, in my opinion the most robust of all boosters released so far. Sure they didn't do every animal in existence, but it's a superhero game, not zoo tycoon.

Before I got it I was wondering how they possibly could've had beast run put you on all fours and attack. Their idle stance is genius, without rearing up onto the "hind legs" all power animations would have to be re-done(not gonna happen "just" for an animal pack), or look ridiculously stupid. (there's actually a booster-emote from another called "growl" if I remember right, it puts you on all-fours, does an animation, then leaves you idle on all fours)

Remote Access to the market has been discussed and re-discussed for years, one of the latest veteran rewards is remote market access.

I was very skeptical of the Incarnate system, but post-release everyone including me is overjoyed with it. It gives you a reason to do TFs and play your 50s again. If you aren't happy with the diminishing returns numbers then all you've obviously done with the system is that, look at it's numbers. In-game I have various 50s where an alpha boosts the range of their powers by 10 feet(not many people slot ranged toons with range), and damage anywhere from 30-100 depending on the power and it's slotting. It is by no means weak. You also got the "billion dollar build" scenario 100% wrong. The more inf put into a build the less it will benefit from Alpha Slotting because it's already closer to the ED cap on all goals the person wanted.

AE didn't make Atlas and Cap famous either, for various reasons they have been the "main" zones of each side since before AE was introduced. If you really have a problem with (outdoor)"map lag" then you shouldn't've picked a server with the 3 dots when you joined .

This thread really belonged in the suggestions & ideas forum. There is no request for help, or bug reported, just complaints and personal fantasy-wishes.
  19. feather/furfly were changed to featherspin and furspin before they were released(you can see them called spin in the costumechange window, that's where I saw it). /cce # ccfeatherspin, and fur, work for those emotes from the chat window.
  20. I just got the Animal Pack on my main account and was eager to test the CCEs involving feathers on my bird character I made back in November(CCEs are one of my favorite "little" things in CoH).

FurSpin, FeatherSpin, and FurBurst are all great and timed spot-on.....but I tested FeatherBurst several different times, and each time there were actual seconds between the flash of light to conceal the transformation and the actual transformation. The amount of "lag" between them are the same on both graphics settings my computer is capable of using, and I had someone else tech-savvy test it and he had the same results.

I found that in-air the costume changes, followed by the animation, while on the ground the animation plays, then the costume changes(with an even longer lag period than in-air).

If it was the only CCE of its kind I could understand if there was some programming limitation that threw off the timing, but it is graphics-wise the same as furburst with different particles released, and furburst is timed perfectly every time(also checked by my friend) while featherburst never hits it's marks on queue.

    Has anyone else noticed this?

yeah it'll be expensive lol. But I don't buy up all IOs required for a build and store them until they can be slotted like I think some people do, I keep 50/50+ SOs slotted at 50, and fill in IOs as I craft them. This character is only level 22 and still has "legacy fitness" burning 3 powerchoices and it's already fun, so I don't see being without those major sets for awhile as being a problem
  22. How was my build in my previous post, with the modified slotting for defense? I think it looks pretty good, and am ready to respec into it, but I'd like at least one nod first lol.
  23. Woot I guess I did good then, mine has 75% recharge and 24.6% s/l defense. I put all the powers/slots in order, and pulled confront for revive instead. I changed maneuvers to CJ(dropped my defall by .3), I hate leadership toggles and try to avoid them(activation/endhog), I might even move CJ up to replace Revive at lv35 and make Revive the last power in the build, i'll decide later though.

    http://www.cohplanner.com/mids/downl...E5FF0180F2CE8F
  24. Nice. I've been re-working sets in my build getting s/l/melee and overall Defense up trying not to sacrifice my recharge, and my defense numbers are very similar to yours. Is the 23% s/l resistance critical to that build being successful? Mine is about 6%. Is the taunt power usually skipped on most scrappers? I see you left it out of yours, I have it 1slotted in mine, but pulled out Revive for maneuvers. I really wanted that Revive, I'd switch it for Confront in a heartbeat.

  25. Mobs of what difficulty? (I know scrappers like to raise it up ). Two things I noticed about the build this morning though was that I had 2 sets of Doctored Wounds slotted with under 5slots, so the idea was they were cheap, and the bonuses were irrelevant, but I realized Numina's give 12% regen with only 2slotted, so I changed both of those over and got myself above 700% base Regen.

I was considering taking Tough, but that's 2 powerchoices and I'm not sure what I'd pull out.
