  1. CoH has pretty much ruined the rest of the MMO genre for me, but especially in the case of character creation. Even the absolute vanilla character freebie character creator is completely nuts.

Though I am a bit disappointed in CoH's face selection and options after Fallout New Vegas and Saint's Row The Third. :P I've never really liked any of the main faces, I end up covering em up with accessories, helmets etc. Usually in games like the above I just randomise all the sliders til I come up with a face I like, and I know it's almost definitely unique. Doesn't have to be perfect, since no real person is.
  2. So the snipes in Stalker APPs might actually be useful now? And nice to see Assassin's Strike having a place in the attack chain. Rolling up a Ninja/Ninja now. (caught between catboy and foxgirl... maybe I'll take a third option and use that good ol Science pack!)

Is Ninjutsu still Stalker exclusive? Always thought it'd make a fun gimmick Scrapper set. (and hilarious Tanker set)
  3. I figured they'd be best off just starting from scratch, and leaving in the old base system as a legacy feature for the people still crazy enough to want to use it. But hey.

I still find it funny that the F2P game is actually a lot like the Pre-I8ish game I first played- no Inventions, no Alignment, none of these fancy new costume pieces or zones! Though all the quality of life improvements are probably great. It's kind of interesting that the game translates well to F2P by putting all the 'advanced' stuff behind the paywall, since there's basically a perfectly solid if simple game underneath all that.

I guessed that much, makes sense.

also, check the beta server, post freedom, they havent done closed betas, but rather vip betas, so if you are back to subscribed, you can check the new hotness. suffice to say, yeah the 4 leg rig is getting used. no bears though. apparently they fight on their hind legs, so animating it is currently not in the books. also, check out titan weapons, its a fairly fun aoe heavy melee set.

oh and you mentioned a stalker, check em out now, they got buffed.
Hence why I was rolling one up, though I'm still crippled by good ol concept indecision. So how long ago are the buffs people are talking about? I remember they got buffed a bit before I left, but it seems like they got some more recently.
  5. Yeah, I'll roll an alt on Virtue... tomorrow, when I can actually think of a solid character concept. I think I'll fit in just fine.
  6. I'm not sure what keeps disorienting me more- what has changed, or what hasn't.

I see the devs still have no idea what to do with bases.
  7. Looks like they'll be wanting to show off the new quadrupedal skeleton(s) as much as they can! I gotta wonder, did they just make one catch-all or actually go to the effort to differ cats and wolves and bears? (oh my)

I thiiink I might roll a new character just to get a better look at all the new stuff, since they've clearly been busy with new powers and profileration... aww, no Fire/Fire Stalker?

Might roll on a new server too, as much as Justice is the Aussie home I could use a fresh perspective for my odd hours. I notice Exalted isn't just a crazy White Wolf pen and paper RPG anymore, though I gotta wonder how an all-VIP server does- I expect it takes some population hits. And is Virtue still the ironically named RP central?
  8. Man, I do not have the time to read up on everything, but I think I get the gist of most of it.

Am I right in guessing that the VIP subscription is more or less equivalent to pre-F2P subscribed game content? That is, full access to Inventions and ATs and such?

I also bought Going Rogue and a couple of the Booster Packs, so I assume I have access to those as well?
  9. Have the mods said anything against it? If not, I imagine it's fair game.
  10. I think the Origins are kinda intentionally vague to an extent, giving players more wiggle room to work with.
  11. Well, if I was making Origin-exclusive powers I'd probably make em a power pool. (though that makes me wary of something like Feats in Dungeons and Dragons, where a misc power setting turns into total option overload)

On the other hand, I think Boomerang would work better as a full on Ranged Attack type powerset. Maybe. I'm not sure how things work at the moment.
  12. I checked back and made a Kinetic Melee/Shields character (I THINK a scrapper, my memory is shot) for Going Rogue, and I think by the time I quit it was juust after Shields came out. (and from all accounts, was very good) I might reroll.
  13. One of the first things I looked at when checking back was my ol solo SG base, and yeah, honestly, the old system is damn near unsalvageable even without considering the apparent programming mess it is.

I think I agree that it might work to keep the old system as a legacy system but with an option to convert to a new system- so you can get all the old savage and storage out without losing everything- so that old bases can still stand if the players are that attached to them, which given how much this game seems to rely on veterans, I'm sure they will be.

I'm pretty sure that the vets will be fully understanding in that case, since we all know how clunky and outdated the current base system is, but even I'd be pissed if I just lost everything.
  14. ..still trying to remember who I vaguely recognise... and it seems the forums ate my avatar somewhere down the line, need a new one.

So co-op zones are no longer mid-to-endgame content but buy-in stuff early on, by the sound of First Ward. (I actually think they've done the F2P thing pretty well so far- it's kinda funny that the free game is basically the old game while a lot of the updated stuff is behind the paywall) And I sympathise with the devs in how tricky it is updating a game that's... like, HOW old now?

Considering rolling a new character, but jeez, I have waaay too many alts already. Any new powersets that are really worth trying?

And I think it's been more than a year I've been gone, not counting a quick check back a few months ago! I think last time I was playing, I was fresh out of high school! So like... 2-3 years?

You have no idea how much it warms my chemical-stained heart to see the old memes still live. <3
  17. Natural might get something similar to Fighting or the old Fitness pool, perhaps. (before that was complementary. Gotta wonder what the newbies think of that)

Gotta wonder if they'll be Original exclusive, would be nice to have some Origin themed perks, though on the other hand I've always respected the devs' insistence on making cosmetic stuff purely cosmetic.

We'll have to see what Sorcery ends up being before we make any remotely educated guesses.

I assume they're going with the idea that anyone regardless of origin can pick up some quick sorcery in this universe. There's probably a correspondence course.
  19. I leave for like... uh... a year or so? And hot damn, the place has changed since I've been gone! The game's gone all free to play, there's a bunch of new powersets, and most egregiously of all I come back and half the names I recognise are still here! Don't you have anything better to do? I'll have to start playing again?

I'm thinking of resubbing to the game, since the f2p experience is fine and dandy but a bit alienating for a veteran (it seems like the free players are getting something similar to pre-I9 CoH gameplay-wise, without Inventions and whatever. Hey, whatever works) and I have money and uni break time to burn.

Looks like there's been all kinds of new stuff as well, including a bunch of new powersets that we've been annoying the devs for for ages. Looks like they finally caved and made skeletons and assets for animals, which should come in handy. Can someone sum up what's new since... uh... about Going Rogue?

I'm guessing that the moderation and community management staff has probably been rotated since I left too, so hi to the new crew as well. I assure you I'm not a troublemaker as far as I'm aware of, though I almost made myself canon.
  20. This idea sounds so ridiculous I'm wondering if it might actually be good.
  21. While I wouldn't take it too seriously or literally, the class warfare angle is an interesting and rather valid way of looking at the Batman mythos.

When you get down to it, Bruce Wayne is a billionaire heir who would normally have no difficulity in his life at all, but he had unexpected suffering at the hands of a lower-class crook. Which also brings to mind a crackpot comparison of Batman to Buddha I read a while ago- a modern-day prince who sees great suffering for the first time in his life, and sets about a quest of transcendental change and learning to right that suffering? (which gets extra lulzy when you bring in the Superman=Jesus metaphors we all love)

Batman doesn't just fight the poor, the underpriveledged, and the outcasts of society, though that does describe his usual targets well enough to get a little disturbing. The Penguin in particular is an enemy that offsets his aristocratic background, to varying degrees (I liked the implication in The Batman that the Cobblepot family is actually broke, with the Penguin trying to restore his family fortune through crime).

    Quote:
Then again, most of Batman's early villains tended to be mad scientist types, so perhaps the World's Greatest Detective is a crypto-anti-intellectual.
That's another thing worth looking at, though it would be hypocritical considerng Batman makes extensive use of advanced science and technology himself, often to the point of super-science. Nowadays, it could be looked at as another way in which Batman's villains reflect him, with their own brand of fancy technology.
  22. People still do AE farms? I thought that died after the exploits were nuked. Then again, Freedom has a reputation for the kind of people who don't get with the program.

Get out of Atlas, is my advice, and join a global chat or two.

It's always kinda confounded me that there was never a ranged attack pool though. Nearly half of the pools include melee attacks, but there's not a single ranged attack in any of them.
The idea is that they don't suck at what they're meant to do to the point of uselessness (like half of the pool powers), with the tradeoff of no additional effects.

I think there's no ranged attacks in power pools for a reason, though. Most ATs that don't get them in their powersets get them in Epic pools.
  24. To make them viable, I'd say make em more like a ranged Assassin's Strike. Shorten the cast time to something reasonable and add a Hide damage bonus.

Potentially OP? Of course, but it's an Epic/Patron pool anyway, give em something they'll actually use. It doesn't have to be full AS damage, just a decent amount.

Also, I never use my AR Blaster's snipe anymore (it's outclassed and boring) but my Kin/Rad Defender uses his a fair bit, mostly for the awesome sound effect. Pew pew pew pew!

    An Idea for AR

My AR/Fire has and uses Ignite and Burn liberally, and you can take either one from my hot, burning, dead hands.
