"Oh, I can give you some info!" Experiment called, brushing himself off as he exited from the bushes, "This place is messed up. This place is insane. This place is cockadilly WACKO! I don't LIKE this place! I HATE this place! I WANNA GO HOME!"
With that, he screamed, then, as if he were bipolar, he straightened up, dusted himself off, and cleared his throat.
"Aaaaaaanyway... What's goin' on with you?" -
[ QUOTE ]
Sis nodded. Did she get the Valley accent? Those are the worst. Im really glad I didnt grow up there Id have to hurt myself. She grinned. Yours isnt too easy to hear though. Or Im going deaf.
[/ QUOTE ]
Experiment chuckled. "Thank god, no. Just a slightly more californian accent, dotted with 'like' every now and then. The reason you can't really tell for me is most likely because I've been here for years. To me, I sound the same, but y'know."
[ QUOTE ]
Hey, better to embrace your nature than fight against it, right? Sis shrugged. Thats about as philosophical as I get, but Ive found it to ring true. Like, youre not going to catch me using weapons, unless I absolutely have to. My aim sucks. Im much better at just smacking people around. She paused for a moment, realizing how that sounded. Er not that Im going to. Here, I mean. Unless Im in the gym. Right. She felt her cheeks flushing in embarrassment. Lovely.
[/ QUOTE ]
"Heh, well, it's not exactly my NATURE, but it is... Different, I suppose. Well, as different as being experimented on and barely surviving due to a mutation, and creating an evil form that had been asleep inside of one's soul. Is that okay, or was that a bit too specific?"
[ QUOTE ]
Sis laughed. Sure, anytime you want. Theres a couple of warehouses in Independence Port that have some wild parties. And if youre into jet-setting, Ive got a few clubs in Switzerland that would open your eyes. Dubais a wash, but Thailand and Singapore have some interesting um tastes. And then theres Hong Kong. She eyed him up and down for a moment. What are you into? Sex? Drugs? Rock and roll? No offense, but you dont seem the raver type.
[/ QUOTE ]
Experiment chuckled again, crossing his arms. "Nah, not into the rave scene, just need to unwind sometimes. Not only do I fight the CITY'S archvillains, but I'm like Spider-Man in that I have TONS of enemies, mostly super-powered, and those that aren't are amazingly smart... It's kind of annoying, and therefore, relaxation is required."
He stood up straight, and grinned. "Then again, I might also stop a few of those parties if any 'Dyne is around. Usually, I halt some Skull or Hellion raves around Atlas by dressing in all black, trench coat, sunglasses, the whole gig, and find the head of the club. Fun is usually had when they find out I'm a hero moments before they fall down and teleport to the Zig." -
((I wouldn't mind... Although, Blind sticking himself in the back of the cell makes sense for him. If you can somehow make shadows over his 'face,' his character would be easy enough.
I'd love to do this!)) -
Experiment was worried for a while after the hallucination disappeared... Well, a few moments before he went back to sleep again. Apparently, he was already tired as it was.

LordDiov:
SOOOOOOOOOVIIIIIIIIET! Get in here! Now! And bring Prikker and Snikker.
[/ QUOTE ]
Huh?
[/ QUOTE ]
Soviet is our resident Tro' Boy, and this relates to female trolls, while he has two characters, Prikker and Snikker, who are male trolls.
I don't know whether the two brothers would come in here for interest reasons, or... OTHER, reasons, but yeah, Soviet controls trolls. -
Experiment was just about to sit up and shout 'SHUT UP!', but his own illusion stopped him.
A light was shining at the door, and it seemed to have a strange pull, an ominous (although he had no idea what that word meant) aura seemed to be attracting him toward it. However, a voice continued to ring in his head.
"Don't go into the light, Experiment! Don't go into the light!"
The hero-child immediately swept under the sheets again, whimpering.
"I don't wanna go with you, evil polter-guy! Go 'way!" -
Henry shuffled and reshuffled the story over and over again. The editor STILL hadn't arrived, and he was getting the inkling that his flush-down-the-toilet theory was correct.
However, a hand soon swiped up the story, and John Ballard began reading.
"'Show-off hero stops Raiders due to luck?' Don't you think that's a bit long, and untrue?" he muttered indignantly, obviously displeased.
"Well, he IS lucky. The only reason he won is that their Force Field generator malfunctioned!" Henry defended.
"...It did? I mean, oh, really? I wouldn't know, I wasn't here."
"...What?"
"Nothing. I'll be in my office."
He took the story, and proceeded to leave. Henry raised an eyebrow, shrugged, and continued writing. However, a realization struck him. As odd as it was, John Ballard didn't HAVE an office. In fact, now that he thought about it, John didn't even have a cubicle.
A flush came from the bathroom. Henry stood, rushing like a madman to catch the editor, and he slammed open the door. John was washing his hands, the story on the sink-side, raising his own eyebrow. "What the hell's wrong with you?"
Henry stayed quiet for a moment before apologizing under his breath and leaving.
Another flush, and he turned. John was gone, along with the story. Not a trace.
He gritted his teeth, growling quietly. -
Lord Recluse, having kidnapped Statesbaby, was wanted by Statesman even more than previously. However, as States landed, he had to quirk a brow.
Lord Recluse wheeled Statesbaby out in a little pram, covered in pink and grey spider emblems. He scowled at Statesman.
"What... What are you doing?" the hero inquired, confused.
"I'm mothering this child, like you never did!" Recluse shouted, picking the super-baby up in his arms, and clinging to him.
"...You're male, right? You're definitely holding two X chromosomes?"
"Of course silly! Don't you think a mother would know these things?"
"...Okay, seriously, give me back the baby. We're going to let the nice men in white coats take you in..."
"No! Not again! You'll have to catch me before I give in!"
With that, Recluse placed the baby in the pram and leaped out of the closest window.
He was found about five minutes later, unconscious. He had hit a wall headfirst. Apparently, he had placed his tower a little too close to the native 'Four-hundredth and sixty-seventh bank of the Rogue Isles.' -
Experiment sat up slowly, reminiscent of those old vampire movies. He glanced side to side, and then fell back on his pillow. "It is night time. It is BED time. I want to go to sleep. Noise won't LET me go to sleep... SHUT UP WITH THE NOISE!" was his first instinct. His next, which he followed?
"Anger- 1. Sandman- 0."
He then drove his face into the pillow, attempting yet again to sleep. -

Previously? Well, most recently I was in California. Sun, sand, surfing, that sort of thing. So Hot and Dry with bouts of Wet and Wild? Her smile softened a bit. Talos reminds me most of SoCal. When the weather gets warmer, Im planning to spend as much time as possible there. You know that huge statue of the bull-guy? There are some killer waves from there to the shore. You can pretty much catch it at the crest and just ride it in. Swim back out, repeat.
[/ QUOTE ]
Experiment nodded, crossing his good arm over his cast. "Yeah, I spent a few months in California... It was fun, and at points, the weather was cool, but there just wasn't enough crime for me. If there was, it was too discreet. Unlike here... Jenny also picked up the accent at some point, so I thought it might be time we left. Also... Bull guy equals name of district."

Eh, can you grab me one of them spoons?
[/ QUOTE ]
Huh? Oh yeah, here. Sis grabbed on and handed it to the new woman before dropping her bottle in the small wastebasket under the table. Turning back to Experiment, she asked, So are you a native? Or another transplant?
[/ QUOTE ]
Experiment raised an eyebrow, before grinning yet again. "I'm going to assume you mean to this city, state, and country, instead of planet, galaxy, universe, or dimension. And no, I'm English, lived to my teens there. My sister is ALSO English, but by the time we moved, she was only a few years old. She grew up in Cali, and therefore, the accent."
He shuffled slightly against the wall, thinking. "We moved to Paragon about... What, five years ago now? I think that's about it. We moved here, and I signed up to be a hero right away... Under a different name from all the other cities, of course. I used to be Prodiguy, but, after a while, I switched it to Experiment for... Uh..."
He glanced down at his good arm, his eyes slits, "Certain reasons."
His good nature returning, he looked up. "You know somewhere worse than Pocket D? I should hang out there... See how many times I get threatened to have things shoved... Uh... In not-so-good places will do. Besides, that continuous music gets to me at some points... War Witch is hot though, so that's a Pocket-Plus." -

((Pfft, people just don't know good drama when they hear... Well, uh, read it...
...Also, this Ess reminds me of my grandmother.
Just thought I'd mention it.)) -
((I forgot how... Un-drama-ish Essex was here...
It's kinda creepy...)) -
((Yeah, that is until they come out with a robotic head, equipped with heat-vision, night-vision, and motion sensing, and, in a state of stupidity, you cut off your head to get yourself one.
"Greetings, Unit Grey-1190918.")) -
Experiment had been sleeping rather normally. No odd murmurings, so convulsions, no twitches, no sleepwalking, nothing.
However, the noise from outside caused one eye to slide open, him to mutter "Get... Offa my... Lawn..." and then fall asleep again.
However, something that WAS abnormal, was the fact that his armour was still worn. It seemed it hadn't come off since his arrival, and wasn't looking to come off anytime soon either. -
[ QUOTE ]
Sis was torn between laughing and being surprised that he seemed to be taking her seriously. "I...think it has something to do old patriarchical ideas of fertility...but I could be wrong..." Her voice trailed off as a nurse and guard entered the room and rushed to Ella's side. A flurry of activity later, and she refocused on Experiment. "Er...does that happen a lot here?" She forced her shoulders to stay down.
[/ QUOTE ]
Experiment shrugged. "I usually just hang out in my room, watch some T.V., and see how many pieces of clinic equipment are immune to my mess-with-stuff nature. So far, it's Experiment; 28, clinic; 0."
[ QUOTE ]
"Your editing job? A clone? ...you're a mad scientist aren't you. With a real job." Sis grinned. "Figures. At least your sister looks out for you. But...how exactly does a clone malfunction? Isn't it just supposed to be an exact biological copy of you?" She ran a hand through her bangs again. "You can't order it around can you? Not that it wouldn't come in handy..."
[/ QUOTE ]
2.0 thought for a moment, before grinning slightly. "That's something I haven't heard before... Usually, I'M the one calling people mad scientist, right before attempting to stab them. However, no, I am not a mad scientist. I am a semi-senile technology expert."
He grinned again as she mentioned the clone. "Maybe I should correct that to today's standards... The clone is a robot, but acts VERY human... Um... When it isn't singing 'Happy Birthday' at full volume, and riding around on my office chair..."
[ QUOTE ]
Shrugging, she stuck her free hand in her pocket. "Do most folks have a job? I've just been kinda winging it since I got here. Hooked up with the New Breed and been working City stuff since then. Hanging out in Talos when I can." Her smile reached her eyes. "Great water there. You're based in Atlas then?"
[/ QUOTE ]
"Hm? I don't really know much about the water. When I was sent to patrol there, my armour was still... Uh... Shall we say, sensitive?" he grinned, and as he began stretching, he halted, put his free hand on his cast, along with the water, and winced. "And I'm actually based in Steel Canyon. You can see my workplace VERY easily. When you come off the Yellow Line, and turn left as you come out, along the War Wall, there is a big building, pretty sleek, lot'sa windows, usually an explosion or two going off, that kinda thing."
He leaned against the wall slightly, and raised an eyebrow. "So, you said 'since you got here,' where were you before? Somewhere cool and rainy? Hot? Cold? Wet? Dry?" -
Experiment blew upward, blowing some blond hair from his eyes. He ripped his arm backward, disconnecting the organic rope, and stood, sighing. "What happened to the days when I could go out in the streets, punch someone in the face, and then have some hot girl come up to me saying 'Wow, you're so strong and handsome! Ooooh! Thank you!' and then I could fly away and I could invent stuff and I could be safe."
He sighed, while also breathing deeply from that very long run-on sentance. He then followed behind Burning, glancing back to make sure no projectile vomit would be hitting him any time soon. -
"Mr. Sandman,
Bring me a dream,
Make her the cutest, that I've ever seen!"
Blind Messenger chuckled sadistically as he chimed in, no matter that it was the wrong time era.
A rock flew in, and his skull detached from his spine, sending it bouncing off the wall. His skull sighed as his body picked it up.
"Everybody's a critic..." -
Experiment's eyes were half shut as he attempted to stand again, the crevice in the pavement under the street obviously his shape. Shimmer landed, his grin layed over in blood.
He rushed at 2.0, only to be gripped by the face, and slammed to the ground. Experiment flew upward into the sky, jets flaring for the third time in the battle. The rain continued to pound down on the combatants as Shimmer ascended, clearing his face of dirt and yet more blood. It seemed his next-to-invulnerable skin was receeding due to the rain fall. Almost eroding.
They fought again, fists striking the body and face like there was no tomorrow. The only thing keeping 2.0 up was the idea that this wasn't real. He had pretty much figured it out when Shimmer mentioned that it was 'His world,' a line very well remembered from a certain movie.
Finally, Experiment shoved his fist forward, past Shimmer's half-hearted block, and a spine ejected, slicing right through the doctor's skull like a knife through heated butter.
It retracted, sending silvery, goopy blood that matched the rest of Shimmer's inner fluids out in an explosion of gore, as well as a few pieces of brain and other such things. He floated for a second, and fell. Neo- I mean, Experiment, then began pile-driving him to the ground, his teeth clenched in anger.
They hit the ground, and a shockwave of energy exploded through Steel Canyon's Copper District.
---------------------------------------------
Experiment's eyes fluttered open majestically, and he sat up, rubbing his head, which was covered in blood. His face had been tilted in a way that the blood of his nose trickeled up his face. He coughed up some in his throat, and began standing, stumbling the first time.
"...He is the One." he muttered, chuckling to himself. -
Experiment leaped over yet another pit, his foot loosening a piece of rock, sending it into the abyss, after regaining his balance, he checked behind him, and back to Burning. "Eh, not much other choice right now, and if it IS Blightlord, you probably... Well, you MIGHT know what you're doing anyway..."
He aimed, and fired a spine, attached to organic lining all the way back to his body as he leaped to the left, avoiding yet another pit. -
Learn to Fly - Foo Fighters
This, to me, is a heroic song, more suited to a new generation of heroes. It just doesn't suit ANY of my characters, no matter how heroic most are.
Why am I posting it then, you say?
'Cause I like it, and it's heroic, and I like it.
Did I say that already?
Good. -
((<.< Apparently, my computer and the forums worked together, clearing any new post reminders. I must have missed this in my search.))
Experiment took a big step back, face contorted into disgust.
"He just hocked a HUGE one at me! That's disgusting!"
However, he didn't decide to try and teach the thing any lessons. He followed Burning's advice, and began running.
Very quickly. -
[ QUOTE ]
You forgot to include a release ? Sis looked stunned. How ? Why ? She shook her head. Isnt that the first rule of engineering or something? First install an emergency exit? Or a fire extinguisher at least? She looked at the cast again. I guess you could just break it open but you probably made it all secure or something. She narrowed her eyes a little, trying to see if there were any seams or obvious weaknesses, but she couldnt tell from this angle. She could probably break it if needed, but that would sort of defeat the purpose of the cast.
[/ QUOTE ]
Experiment chuckled, eyeing his cast again. "Not in my mind. Usually, I am not very good in the foresight department, and in the building of this, it was no different. I didn't think that I may need a release until seconds after it had already clasped."
[ QUOTE ]
Nah its the makeup, Sis said quickly, indicating the red circles around her eyes. Makes me look all scary and old or something. Frankly, I think Serge was pulling my leg, but it does help when its really sunny out. Like those things football players wear. She rolled her shoulders. Id prefer sunglasses, but I went through something like fifteen pairs my first week here. Ive given up. Unless I weld them to my face, theres no point in trying to keep em. Sis took a drink from her bottle of water, running the cap through her fingers. Sides how can I be stressed? Im here, right? she said, gesturing to the room in general. Meeting new people, seeing new things, relaxing. Peaches and cream. She tried hard to keep the sarcasm out of her voice, but realized she was probably failing miserably.
[/ QUOTE ]
Seeing as how Experiment himself used sarcasm on a pretty much minutely basis, even if it had been extremely well hidden, like, Fort Knox hidden, he probably would have sensed it anyway.
However, he nodded, not in a way that said 'Okay, I get it, you're not stressed. So, how's the weather?' but in a 'Okay, I get it, you don't wanna talk about it.' way.
[ QUOTE ]
Glancing towards the door, Sis noticed a man standing there with an unbuttoned Hawaiian shirt and some emblem on his undershirt. Raising an eyebrow, she glanced back to Experiment. I thought only girls got in trouble for flashing, she commented, jerking her head towards the door. Hes leaving nothing to the imagination, Sis added with a sly grin. She didnt recognize the man or his insignia. As long as he wasnt the massage therapist shed been threatened with, she figured she could get by without ever knowing who he was.
[/ QUOTE ]
Experiment's gaze lay on the guy for a second, his head tilting in confusion. He turned to Sis, his eyes narrow. "I find it offensive that these guys don't get punished, and perfectly good, healthy women do. I mean, for women, okay, fine, they aren't exactly insulting anybody... Guys though... I just... I just think we should be allowed to perform some justice on them sometimes..."
[ QUOTE ]
Returning her gaze to Experiment 2.0, she asked, So whos Jenny?
[/ QUOTE ]
Experiment rolled his eyes, however good-naturadely, and chuckled yet again, for like, the eighteenth time in that ten minutes. "She's my... Well, Ian pretty much ruined any chance of keeping my identity secret... She's my sister, Jenny Ballard. She's the one that forced me into this cast, and the one that forced me into this place, and ALSO forced me, a week or so ago, to actually do my editing job instead of the clone..."
His gaze went side-to-side, and he spoke again, slightly secretively. "I made a clone, which malfunctions often. Last time I let him out, he managed to open a portal, allowing a ton of CoT into the Paragon City Times... We blamed it on the Orenbagens, but I swear, I don't think anyone gives me NORMAL looks anymore in my building..." -
Experiment slammed into a trash can, denting it fully as his armour plating melted steadily. His panels disconnected, falling to the ground as useless as plastic. He glared upward, spotting Pyro and Shimmer still floating.
Experiment 3.0 was easy enough; Distinguish his eye-flames, and send a spear (cleverly shapen from the remains of a light-post) through his heart. Blind Messenger was even more simple. All he had to do was remove a flashlight from his utility belt, shine it on him for a second, and stab him with a spine.
Pyro and Shimmer, however... They were a little more complicated.
Pyro-Technis would probably be easy if I had superstrength, Experiment thought at first, He has powers, but he's still human. Enough things smashing into him would eventually get him down.
However, Shimmer was another story. 2.0 had no idea what the genius' weakness was.
Now, he was cornered, the trashcan he had slammed into now obviously backed by an alleyway.
"It's over, 2.0," Shimmer muttered, his grin widening, "We've won."
Experiment growled darkly, and his fists flared with the same darkness. He rushed forward, past Shimmer, and began pummeling Pyro with his darkness-encased fists. The villain was already hurt from the battle, but this hurt a HELL of a lot more. His face crunched under the last strike, and he fell. Hard.
Experiment turned as Pyro disappeared from view, defeated. However, his turn turned to a stagger, as Shimmer held the one person that could stop all of the hero's movement.
His mother was held, at rifle-point, by the technological mastermind.
"...Let her go." Experiment said, careful to keep his voice from going aggressive.
"Only if you agree to give yourself up, John." Shimmer replied, his grin widening further. He pushed the gun into her back, causing her to whimper. Experiment took a step, and Shimmer pushed again, causing her to yelp. "No closer, or she dies."
"Let her go, Shimmer," 2.0 repeated, raising his arms to show he was no threat... For now, "You don't want to hurt her. I can see it in your eyes."
Shimmer simply scoffed.
"All you can see in my eyes, 'hero,' is the dead, metal shine. The metal shine caused by YOUR ineptitude!" Shimmer rushed forward, and his bots surrounded Experiment's mother. "Caused by YOUR inability to hold 3.0 back inside of you! YOUR inability to hold down your rage! YOUR stupidity!"
He pulled his rifle around, striking 2.0 with the butt of it, sending him to the ground. He coughed up blood and a tooth, taking in a shaky breath, and standing yet again. Shimmer went for another strike. It hit, even thought Experiment could easily have stopped it. He fell again, and Shimmer began screaming.
"YOU WILL PAY FOR YOUR illusion STUPIDITY! YOUR illusion INEPTITUDE illusion TO DO illusion WHAT IS RIGHT!"
Experiment's ears peaked. What was that?
"ALL YOU ARE IS A(n illusion) WASTE OF SPACE! JUST (hallucinating) DIE!" The rifle came up again. It was stopped by 2.0's grip, and he disarmed Shimmer. However, he then spun the rifle over the mastermind, blasting his bots quickly and accurately.
He turned back, and now, everything faded away. His mother, the bots, everything. Now, on a rain-slick street, Experiment 2.0, in a full black trenchcoat, and dark sunglasses, no matter that it was pitch black, faced Dr. Keizer Shimmer, also in black, but this time, a business suit, flanked by about three million more of him. However, they were all on the sides of the street, watching.
"Mr. Ballard, welcome back," Shimmer chuckled, adjusting his black tie, "We've missed you..." A spine fired, missing Shimmer by mere inches. Shimmer closed in, fists encased in energy, and struck, missing Experiment, also by inches. They began fighting Spine-To-Hand, the spines taking most of the energy damage, and the fists of energy absorbing the poison and cuts of the spines. -
Experiment grinned down at his cast. "Well, I wanted to make sure it didn't break should I start fighting crime while injured. Of course, after clasping it, Jenny told me she had checked me a room in the clinic, so I sighed and tried to take it off... About three seconds before I realized that I forgot to install a Delatch button."
[ QUOTE ]
Sis nodded in response, turning back towards Experiment. Back to your lab is it still standing after your experience? As she spoke, she slowly let her connection to the earth fade, straightening as the adrenaline dissipated from her system. She unclenched her fist and ran it through her bangs.
[/ QUOTE ]
2.0 frowned slightly, his head shifting. "Are you okay? You look a little stressed out... And plus, you're gonna start stressing me out, because you'll lower my rather good mood down to simply 'a durably good day.'"
