Quote:I would suggest a look on the Mastermind forums. There is a thread right now about how to solo on a Bots/Dark. And played well a Bots/Dark can handle way more than a tank (IE: Bots/Dark can solo TF's and AV's, Tanks can't).No, I don't play other classes lilke tankers. but they routinely end up one-on-one against minions and flatline because they're resistant to hold powers or maybe I don't have a choice but to fight three at once and their dps is just too much to handle.
It's just crazy that my tanker hits harder, hits more often, and takes less damage, and heals for more than any other character. I know I'm doing something wrong when my other characters can't even approach this.
I have a mastermind for example, you may have heard of her, her name is Party Kake. She has robots and dark miasma (but colored to become vanilla frosting!) and there are a lot of powers that I took because I had no idea what to take. she has leadership, and super speed, but there are powers she's got that I took because I didn't have anything I wanted to choose from, and regularly candles (her robot with rocket launcher and flamethrower) just takes way more damage than expected and not even the amazing heals can stop that. every other bot gets one-shot in tough fights. If she gets targeted at all it's over but I usually avoid that.
For her the game is difficult, but I wouldn't ever run her up against x2 missions because there's no way I could handle that much while solo.
And I avoid doing anything at +1 or higher because there's no way I'd ever be able to beat an elite boss if it was above -1.
And this was my most powerful character before I saw what a tanker could do.
That isn't to say tanks are bad, but MM's are probably the most survivable solo toons in the game. -
Quote:You might be underestimating just how hard +4 is.1. Me
2. Capable Tank
3. Capable Brute/Scrapper
4. Capable Brute/Scrapper
5. Shielder who uses their shields
6. Capable support
7. Any capable player
8. Any capable player
Capable = "someone who can play their character and work in a team"
Capable brute/scrapper might mean something like katana/regen, which while capable will find it very hard to kill any meaningful amount of romans (Due to s/l resists and the purple patch) or last very long should they get agro (Due to +4 roman bosses hitting like trains).
Also 1 set of shields will probably mean very little, they would need to be stacked with something to make a difference for +4's, especially if they are resistance shields.
The challenge isn't just to do the ITF, it is to do it very quickly (45 minutes is faster than most teams do on +0 [The merit rewards tell you that], and I think most players are as capable as you describe). -
I just realised that if I drop Aid Other/Aid Self I can pick Challange/Provoke up again and go back to tankerminding! (Which I really miss now my bots/ff is shelved)

I was under the impression that the -regen on the Assault Bot had been fixed in a patch not too long ago?
-
Since my original fiddling with Sinthix's build brought my endurance usage too high I have messed around and made a new build, though this is for i19 so you will need to have Leandros mids patch to open it.
I have improved endurance use and recovery, improved recharge (Now all debuffs are stacking or perma), and found room for Aid Other/Aid Self (Not that I really need them).
Sadly the Armageddon set pushes this build into the expensive bracket.

But they should both be extremely survivable.

Out of curiosity Dechs what secondary is your Dark tank? (Youtube doesn't likeme
)
I am looking into a Dark/Stone at the moment. -
The reason you don't see many /sonic's around is because the T9 power (Liquify) is rubbish. It trades over the top debuffs (Nobody needs a 50% tohit debuff or really a 35% defence debuff) for a massive recharge time.
All sonic really has going for it are the shields and disruption field, which while great don't make for a fun powerset.
Sonic Siphon is a good power, but being single target it is only of use against AV's really. -
I like this thread because it isn't saying "I play red side because there is no challenge blue side"
-
You are right about Mace, but Mu is the only AoE immob that has a -kb effect, which you can use to keep those mobs in your debuff patches and in the burn patches from the assault bot.

My build is sadly very endurance heavy - so I do need to change it and was on the way here for opinions when I saw your post! -
Forgive this not being in a good order:
Assault Bot - Since he is your main damage output I like to slot him for effectiveness instead of bonus'. Therefore 3 Nucleolus (Acc/Dam) HO's, the Soulbound Allegience proc and an Explosive Strike proc is my preferred option.
IIRC the Protector Bots with Defence Buff slotting give ~11% to you, so you are short of being softcapped to all. I think this is because you have gone for more Smashing/Lethal defence, where really you should be building for positional (Melee/Ranged/AoE). You can definately do this without having to use the Scorpion Shield, and instead you will have room for a resistance based shield from another epic to give you layered survivability.
No AoE immob with -kb. I ALWAYS pick Mu Mastery because Electrifying Fences is the only available AoE immob with has -kb, which means it is the only thing that will effectively keep all your enemies within the Assault Bots burn patches, and your own trap patches.
Caltrops don't really need slotting for slow, things will either be slowed to a crawl, or ignore them. I slot as many procs as I can and that is all.
Combat Jumping is overslotted imho. You don't really need that 4th slot for the accuracy bonus in particular, it is better to slot your traps for a bit of accuracy.
Do not slot your Protector Bots for healing. The reason is that they always wait with their heals to make sure they get full use out of them (IE: If they heal for 500, they will wait till the target has taken 500 points of damage before healing). Your bots are too squishy to have your Protectors delaying using that heal. With no heal slotting they will use the heal more as a health top-up, which is a good thing
Slot a +Stealth proc into Sprint. In combination with Super Speed that will give you effectively capped stealth against most enemies so you can sneak into a mob, plant your traps, then send the bots in.
That is about all for now. -
All content including TF's? GM's? AV's?
Or all 'standard' content (Arcs and zones)? -
You are all making me want to roll a claws/elec or a claws/dark. Can you please stop it?!
-
I don't know about the other combo's aside from Sonic/Mental. I tried that a while back because on paper it is very powerful with a full chain full of cones, but each cone takes forever to animate and I found myself very frustrated at loads of slow casting powers.
I am not a big fan of Fire, but at least it has fast animations. -
Quote:Preaching to the converted alreadyI hate to be a killjoy, but there're serious consequences in playing pure Dwarf.
Fighting Malta, say, I find Dwarf gets me killed. One Sapper'll hose my endurance in two shots, Dwarf form drops, and I die. It's always been much easier for me to just stay in Human against Malta and mez the crap out of them.
That being said, Dwarf makes Freakshow missions or the like trivial. S'why I've broken down and gone Tri Form after years of being a Human purist. Every form's got its strengths and drawbacks.
I have been tri-form since the day I rolled my WS but the only thing I am missing since I shelved her is Black Dwarf Mire. I will just avoid anything nasty and this is more a nostalgia build than anything. -

Quote:I don't hate cones, but I do hate the breath cones. They are tiny, slow and weak.I personally hate cones, so I've always stayed away from the Frost Breath. Imo, a Kin is all about the buffs. I'm too busy keeping everyone SBed and whatnot to really bother having every single Ice attack.
With Fulcrum Shift you are right, but Aim also gives +tohit, which can be useful when you want to nuke a big mob of purples
If you must have a 2nd hold power dip into the Psi epic for Dominate. BFR takes waaaaay too long to cast.
Quote:Inertial Reduction is pointless for a Kin to have. Really. Get rid of it.
Quote:Increase Density can be extremely helpful. If someone dies on the team, I always hit them with it when they rez in case they don't have a Break Free. It's also a nice place to put some +Def IOs in.
Quote:I really don't agree with you taking Hasten so late in your build, but again, that's your play style. Personally, I'm all about the low level SFs and I don't strictly just do the high level ones or just farm, so it's important for me to have it at a low level.
Quote:When I first made my Kin I did try Hover, but I learned to hate it. Fast. I think a lot of people feel it's going to keep them safe, but when most mobs have at least one or two enemies that are ranged, it's not going to help. Not to mention moving around in caves can be quite difficult. It didn't take me long to switch to Super Speed and I don't regret it.
Quote:I don't agree with your Ancillary/Epic choice, either. I always tend to go with Mace Mastery. The Scorpion Shield is, I believe, one of the only shields that has +Def. The rest are +Resist Damage I think? But don't quote me on that. Also, by taking Web Envelope, you lose the scattering of mobs when you use Ice Storm & Blizzard.
Quote:It is NOT, I repeat NOT, necessary to have ALL of your attacks 6 slotted. You could end up using those extra slots somewhere else.
Quote:Don't 6 slot Health. Ever. Really, the most you need in is it 3 slots for a Numina's +Regen/+Rec, Regenerative Tissue: +Regen, and a Miracle: +Rec.
Quote:Speed Boost should have about 4 slots in it. I chose parts of the Performance Shifter set.
Quote:I cannot stress enough about Transference having 6 slots. Either go with the Performance Shifter set or Efficacy Adaptor set. Your call.
Quote:Fulcrum Shift doesn't NEED 6 slots, but I do recommend AT LEAST 4. 2 Accuracy, 2 Recharge. If you can fit in more, then go to 3 Accuracy, 3 Recharge.
It can be good for getting more defence (Not much more though) and holds some good sets to help build defence.
Quote:I would also recommend sticking a Stealth IO in your Sprint power. I used to have the pool so I could fit more LOTG Global Recharge in my build, but I dropped it so I could fit Teleportation in. I hated being the 1st or 2nd person to the end of a mission in a TF and having to wait for everyone else, so that has definitely come in handy. So now all I have is a Stealth IO in Sprint and it works just as good.
Building for ranged defence is usually a poor idea since kin's need to be in melee to get the most out of their own buffs. AoE defence is much more useful (Though harder to build for), and S/L is even more useful than that because S/L covers melee, ranged and AoE and most attacks in the game have a S/L component. -
It is nice to see the whole of Union being unplayable is so important that all the devs get paged and dragged into the office to fix it...

I will put my vote in for Dark/Dark because as others have mentioned if blooms fast (Both primary and secondary) and can go on to becoming very powerful - for a minimal cost as well.
I also think Dark/Dark is better than Dark/Sonic because with the cone fear of Fearsome Stare you don't really need the sleep as has been suggested above, and Tenebrous Tentacles + Nightfall line up perfectly so keep everything packed onto your Tar Patch and dying very fast.
I really don't get the comments about it being a slow killer, unless people are talking about single target damage. But with Dark/ being able to lockdown whole groups very easily who fights small mobs?
Another synergy comes with Dark Pit (From /Dark) and Howling Twilight (From Dark/), both are AoE stun powers that stack nicely for bosses. -
I would probably be ok dropping to human for for Hasten and Eclipse, but everything else in Dwarf (Stygian after battle though).
The best I have managed so far is far from complete but has just over 31% smashing/lethal defence. My attempt at getting positional defence wasn't really great.
Ideally I would get lots of defence, lots of recharge and some +movement too, but I am not sure it can be done quite like I want it.
Of course if i19 made the inherant fitness pool work with forms (Or more importantly swift/hurdle) then it would help loads! -
Some of you may remember that I used to post in this section quite regularly, but since then my heavily IO'd Warshade spent some time languishing unused, and then got pillaged of all her useful IO's.
Recently I felt a bit nostalgic so I am considering making another build for her, but this time I am not going tri-form, but purely Dwarf (Because Black Dwarf Mire if the best PBAoE power in the game and I miss it!).
I am in the middle of trying to make a build myself, but while I work on that I thought I would ask what builds other people have got?
Anything high defence, high recharge and no expense spared will be good -
Hmm I was using the ROUNDUP function in excel wrongly. I will have another look after my TF.
Still, regardless of the numbers it is always showing AS as not being as good as I think it should be when outside of hide (Baring in mind we are comparing it to a rubbish attack).
Edit: When my numbers turned out to be basically adding .13 I should have been suspicious ... -
Quote:I still don't get why anyone uses damage scales, it is another pointless round of maths just to complicate things. Also, the numbers you quoted don't include the time used by the server before you can activate another power, so aren't really relevant. Charged Brawl is nowhere close to twice the DPA of AS, because from the time you activate it until when the game allows you to activate another power, you have 1.056 seconds - not 0.83. The extra time is what's used before the server checks again to see if the power is done activating, plus another check after it notices that you're done activating before it lets you activate another one (there's always at least 0.132 seconds of dead time).
Anyway, I work out the Arcanatime* cast for Charged Brawl as 0.96 seconds, meaning a DPA of 64.53. AS would be 3.13 cast time or 44.38, still a 50% improvement.
*It isn't an actual gap of 0.132, that is just when the servers tick.
