I have no experience with the powers, but would the cones make it easier to line up the DM cone everyone always skips? (The one that isn't sand of mu but looks like it lol)
I think that is the only plus side though, and TT might give you problems with immobilising things too far away from you.
I would go with Soul as Claws said. Shadow Meld is awesome and would be great on a WP. -
Quote:Some people just seem to hate the idea of making things easier, but you just see things different to me which is fineI mostly agree with ya across the board. I just don't agree on Medicine. I like the subtle urge to make a melee specialist more rounded as a team player, as I've said before, and always enjoy the surprise of seeing a tank, scrap, etc healing or mez-breaking a team-mate. I think changing medicine would decrease this, with no huge upside, so I'd prefer not to change. As I said, though, I know it all comes to personal preference.

Quote:Area denial, knockback, self teleports that put you back 30', foe teleport, damage buffs, recharge buffs, targetted taunt patches, targetted fear patches (Whichever makes the runaway effect), recovery/regen buffs. So what is the secondary going to do? More range attacks? Armors? I am betting debuff and control are what most people who want to eliminate melee attacks are thinking, although maybe he was thinking armor or more range attacks.
There are a lot of things that would help keep a blaster alive and allow them to do more damage that we don't necessarily see a lot of currently.
Edit: Blasters could even have pets, and to keep them different they could be high damage, easy to kill but fast to recharge and light on the blue bar to cast. Maybe something like Seeker Drones but damage not stun and it lets them take an alpha too. -
Quote:I just can't see that happening in the real game though. I don't think it is worth it even on a defence capped toon most of the time, and a lot of the min/max scrappers in particular dropped it and tried to get more regen instead because it takes so long to use. Good regen coming from Melee Hybrid might cause even more people to drop it (I know I plan on using Hybrid as a heal if it stays the same).I think it was about the same time as the fixed energy aura. It was at the same time as they made travel powers available at level 4 and increase travel powerr pools from 4 to 5.No, the power wasn't buffed.
For level 50+ content, no, it doesn't affect balance much. however getting it at level 4 (along with Tough) made significant changes to how defensive sets balanced in the 4-30 range. Also, making those powers cost one power pick instead of two changed them from being powers many people took to powers EVERYONE took. The only way to fix that would be to have a lot more decent pool powers to compete with them.
If you aren't softcapped you can't use it that well so low level characters shouldn't be able to use it too effectively either.
Also even at T1 it competes with Combat Jumping, Hasten, Boxing (Sadly a needed pick mostly), Hover (Wouldn't blast without it) and Maneuvers/Tactics which are all good powers so it still wouldn't be a shoe in.
It probably would make the Presence pool feel a bit left out, but that is a good pool for MM's so has a place (Since they were designed as tanks and then not given taunts ...). -
All makes perfect sense to me really, rogue branches of the mobs we face can split off and do whatever you want them to do but random people shouldn't be able to mess with the games signature characters.
Just because you want Hamidon or whatever doing a specific thing doesn't mean that is what he/she/it wants to do.
Create your own arcs and characters, don't steal someone elses/ -
You are in for a treat in i23!

Quote:I agree on the power structure, but in this particular case it actually makes little sense to hide a self affecting power behind powers that only effect others because the type of people who want one are unlikely to want the other. And for the record, I, at least, am not trying to give anyone any grief, just stating that I'd disagree with his suggested change to the game.
And having some powers of one type hidden behind others of another is part of the structure of this game. I think it encourages, at least a little bit, builds that are more rounded.
Tough/Weave being locked behind attacks are the other one I disagree with, I don't have any objection to say Weave locked behind Tough, because both increase survivability, but there is nothing that says people who want survivability want an extra attack as well, just like there is nothing to say people who want to buff others want a self heal or people who want a self heal want to buff others.
For the record I have one toon with Aid Self (Who doesn't use whichever of the others I picked) and one who has the other 3 powers but not aid self, which pretty much says it all.
It smacks of 'hide the good behind the bad so the good doesn't seem so good', yet for aid self in particular it isn't even that great.
I won't say "And the devs can do this easily" but it sure sounds like something that is as easy as changing some numbers in a database to me, with maybe a little UI work to cut and paste the powers in different orders. It is more worthwhile than a lot of other things I see the dev team doing.
[I agree stopping with the cake thing is a good idea because that one could have derailed this thread seriously lol!]
Edit: I should also say that I thought locking travel powers behind their pre-requisits was a good idea because it was thematic, but really love the gameplay benefits of not having to do so. -
Quote:I think changing Total Focus to work like Thunderstrike is a must regardless of the focus of the set, I really like the animation and would prefer it stays. If EM is supposed to be a ST DPS set, then the animations for these two powers needs to be cut down, and some of the damage front-loaded.
I think the 3 basic punches need looking at, because they all seem pretty even and pretty poor, most sets have 1 of the 3 that stands out for the powergamers to take advantage of. [Edit: I have looked at Kinetic Melee and it is only Bone Smasher that really stands out as needing improvement, most likely just a small damage buff because for 1.5s it seems to have low damage. But they are all very similar in terms of DPA so could do with changing to have a 40, 50 and 60 DPA instead of all being ~45*, currently there isn't much reason to pick one over the other.]
Energy Transfer is where the set will be defined, keep the cast but make it an AoE if you want to AoE focus the set, and shorten the cast time if you want to ST focus the set. I would personally give it the same stats as Clobber.
Those few tweaks would give the set some much needed AoE (But not a great amount because Total Focus would still be slow and Whirling Hands would still be Whirling Hands), help the damage and give the set an edge for min/maxing (Which I think is important).
I don't think there is much need to buff Whirling Hands, unless they want it to remain the only AoE, and Stun works well enough imho (Giving Stun better damage would probably mean another power suffers and the set probably wouldn't benefit).
I know this conversation has been had a million times though, and Energy Melee is performance wise right in the middle so unlikely to get much change.
*Based on raw mids numbers for a brute with no fury. I haven't done the maths to convert to base damage. -
They should also port it to scrapper, at which point it will get a balance pass.
Edit: I just realised that a workable Energy Melee on scrappers is my new number 1 requested set. -
Quote:I will forgive that then, but someone mentioned info given out at the Pummit and I hate that kind of thing with a passion. Just because there are new types of media doesn't invalidate the old ones which would have always been as good as the new ones if the people put in charge were IT people and not just desk idiots. All of the information that is Officially Available can be found using the forums.
The reason none of the set's specifics are available is that they haven't been announced yet. The only reason any other site might currently have more info on these sets is because they were leaked during beta by someone going through the game's files in violation of the user agreement. -
Dz131 I have no idea why people are giving you so much grief. Some people don't want free cake in case it makes them fat.
In general though, having a self effecting power of any kind hidden behind powers that only effect others is a bad idea, because people who want each type of power often have different mindsets. T1 should have one of stim/aid other plus aid self, and the other of stim/aid other should be swapped to T2.
No real change for anyone who want to help the team, but a great benefit to those looking for a heal. -
Energy Aura does have a taunt aura. One of the few sets that do.

Quote:I didn't get that from his post at all. His last paragraph pretty much specifically states he doesn't want the fancy stuff that corruptors do.Looks at corruptors. Primary that deals ranged damage. Secondary that can mitigate damage and support ranged attacking.
Why do so many people want to turn blasters into corruptors? Play corruptors. I think it would be boring to make another corruptor AT (considering defenders also are ranged damage with a support/utility role).
If you don't like the blaster AT, but like the corruptor AT, that does not mean blasters should be turned into corruptors. -
I am thinking Melee will work as a nice heal over time, and Assault as a nice build up power. Kind of depends on how much damage you take, if the heal won't let you do more awesome things then take Assault and just do the same awesome stuff, but faster.

Quote:What do you expect when they for some reason decide to release all their new information at Pummits (Whatever they are) rather than using their forums where most of their fanbase congregates?I was hoping to see a little more discussion on this new powerset.
It's not like I pay for an active subscription and browse these forums all day looking for information like this, I should have known that external websites are where all the cool companies keep their most up to date information... -
Quote:Did they buff Aid Self at the same time? Honestly it is a pretty poor power even in a defense set, I dropped it on my Elec/Shield because I found the only time I needed a heal were the times when damage was constantly getting through. I wouldn't take it even at T1 on most toons. They tried this during a closed beta. It pretty much messed up the balance of defensive powersets, and was quickly reversed.
I would love to have seen this testing because I can't think for one minute how it messes with balance that much. Most min/maxers already have it, and everyone else doesn't have the capped defence needed to take proper advantage.
I also assume this test was a while ago before they buffed Energy Aura? -
Blasters should have a primary goal of causing ranged damage (80' across all powersets), they should have good ST damage equal to stalkers (Just ahead of scrappers and brutes) and be ahead of everything in AoE damage with a crashless nuke. No powers should have long cast times and everything should be an attack.
They should have a secondary where they manipulate their powers to keep enemies away from them, walls of fire the enemy won't pass through, repels, knockbacks, self tp's etc (No proper controls, not even immob). And to increase their damage via build ups etc.
They should not punch anything in the face! -
Quote:This would probably help those who don't min/max as much as those that do because the min/maxers are good at making sure the wasted power pick doesn't affect the build too badly. The pools are the way they are to deter min/maxing so you can swiftly dip into the pools and grab your Acrobatics, Hasten, Weave, Aid Self then the Leadership pool. It's so you have to choose which pools you need rather than just grabbing the good stuff on every build.
-
Quote:I agree, most pools have the useful power available straight away. I don't really see the need to lock any of them behind pre-requisit picks anymore.I think heal self need to be a teir 1 power in the medicine pool. ALot of people already only stick with the same 4-5 pools (speed, leadership, fightan and flight/jump/stealth) that making you basically waste a power pick in the medicine pool to get the power you actually want just make people less likely to take it.
What do you think? -
If you look in every other section of the forums it isn't just scrappers, in general I feel like the game has changed and pushed away those players who were once its 'soul'.
I was never able to keep up with any of the good scrappers, but no matter what I do now I just don't get a sense of accomplishment like I used to, so maybe people don't feel like they should brag. -
Sorry I didn't look again yesterday like I said, car trouble stopped me getting to work
Looks like you met all your goals though so all is good -
Quote:Really?Personally, I don't think they should have caved to the requests for this ability. It sets a dangerous precedent. People aren't fond of terrorize either, and some people don't like stuns. Are we going to see them whining for uniques to change those effects now?
I can't say I have ever seen serious complaints about anything other than KB, which I hate with a passion. -
