Quote:We're basically saying the same thing in different ways. I generally keep to a "spider-man" level of strength, with one major exception that I rarely play. So the idea of defeat is pretty much a given here and there. My characters can lose, sure. The idea that they might ALWAYS lose because of the game's mechanics is kind of limiting to roleplaying. How am I your nemesis if you ALWAYS kick may ***? How are we Rivals if there's no potential for equality? How is it my character absorbs energy powers, and is weak to physical attacks, but I'm being beaten by your energy attacks?. So yes, all that stuff you just said, It's just less "But I'm so strong!" and more "But my character is a robot and you're psychic"I'm not sure how complicated a character is has any bearing on someone's desire to PVP anymore than it does to PVE. (As such "complications" would be just as hard to RP versus NPCs surely?)
I specifically said it was to do with power because the PVP system doesn't really put everyone on an equal footing. So to begin with you have massive power differentials in the game mechanics that might not even fit the concepts. (E.g. a Psy/EM blaster roleplayed as Jean Grey versus a SS/Inv Brute roleplayed as Superman. The Psy/EM would win every time.)
But ATs being unbalanced wasn't the main problem. The thing is; people create these wonderfully complicated roleplaying characters. They defeat hordes of NPCs, claim the powers of the gods, save the world, and (thanks to IOs) are virtually indestructible. Take that same character, one actualized & enabled by the PVE system, into PVP and they're suddenly much easier to drop. Defeat becomes that much easier.
So for RPers they have to accept defeat on two levels - both as a player, AND as a character. And sometimes that's just not fun. Sometimes you don't want to accept that someone else's character is able to beat yours in a fight. (Nevermind that it might even be EASY for theirs to beat yours in a fight...)
That's why LARGE-SCALE RPVP events tend to be the best. Because large groups of heroes/villains are all tearing into each other. It makes it easier to justify your Superman/Dr. Doom getting beaten by saying: "Well I was swamped by heroes."
EDIT:
Just thought of the whole "mediport" thing, as well.
I'd imagine a mixture of AE and RPvP would actually be very good for this, the story-important things happen in AE and the RPvP is just a diversion or a friendly challenge or just a way for a villain and a hero to converse in an environment where the natural conclusion of such a meeting(violence) can take place. Hmmmmmmm -
If you had one power in your primary that, while hidden, was an assassin's strike but while unhidden was another attack, or activated quicker/had different stats, Similar to momentum's varying attack speeds, I'd really love it.

My biggest issue with the idea of an "Autumnal" set/sets for doms is
1: Any Dominator primary should fairly enough be ported to Controllers
2: Even if it has plant and ice and fire and earth, it doesn't really fill an unfilled hole in the conceptual freedoms of Dominators and Controllers, which I feel is most important.
Right now what doms/trollers are missing are
1:"Natural/Gadgeteer/No Super-powers/Weapons based" concepts. Trollers can use traps, but they are still restricted in their primaries. Dominators have no such luck. I'd much rather see a "Gadgets" Controll set and some kind of weapon secondary such as a Combo of Guns and Martial arts(It would certainly be great to have a new option for dual-pistols users and a good answer to the people wanting a Martial Arts Secondary for blasters)

Quote:What Red said.
Although it's important to point out that some of RPers just don't like PVP. (Their uber powerful character concepts don't tend to translate well into it.)
ANYWAYS!
RPvP is fun stuff, usually takes place in hosted events and I can see why major story developments are kind of hard to wrap around it, considering how PvP works, characters with any concept more complicated(That's complicated, not powerful) than the AT name tend to do very poorly, meaning there's only one story they can play, losing. So just big-ol' fights like I've seen tend to work best. -
You know what I love about Going Rogue? The fact that the underground war and the factions and the moral ambiguity of Praetoria showed in the zone events. Several of the early-level zone events have two different sides people taking part can choose from.
You know what I hate about Going Rogue? There's only one, very strict way to choose alignments. Alignment missions. In Praetoria, The Rogue Isles, and Paragon City, there's no slow, subtle slide one way or the other. One mission and BOOM you're on the other side.
In Primal earth it's a bit more subtle with the ten missions per side-switch but in Praetoria it's the choice you make on one mission that changes your side. What would be very nice is a way to supplement the tip/alignment mission system with things to do out in the open world.
My idea are zone events like the Great Escape and the Protest in Praetoria. Players taking part can pick a side and then perform the actions necessary for "success" on either side. When they complete the necessary task they would acquire half of one alignment point.
Critiques and ideas are welcome. -
A general, strict outline with enough room to let the characters "Naturally" write themselves like that tends to lead to very good stories, I think.

I have an opinion. I have LOTS of opinions. Opinions about stuff! Can I voice them?

Johnny, you can't hit people with lampposts in the game with super strength because you can't interact with objects in the game. Hurl is the closest approximation of the idea of picking up heavy things and hitting people with them.

Those pictures remind me why I usually keep the auras off in non-action activities. Also why we need more customization and reactive defense auras and blah blah blah standard premmy rant.

Quote:To be fair, though, soul-Calibur is pretty JRPG-ish, visually, not as many zelts and bippers, but being a classic Japanese 3-d fighting game it has some overlap.Thankfully, this game isn't your perfect world. Because, guess what, SOME people like that kind of thing, and don't instantly go 'OMGJRPGhatehatewaaaah!' and instead are reminded of this guy;
Either way, I don't hate or love Titan weapons. It's more options and that's nice. Most of what I'd want to be added to the game are either uber-specific to my own personal ideas or expansions on what's already there to be more all-encompassing, so it's all good. -
I'll say it again, if the non-rulu pieces they wore had been replaced with new CoT pieces, They would have been 100% better.

That was definitely the best time I've had on this game in my two years of playing. Thanks for having us, Challengers, and keep us updated on the next event

neither of those are the mutant gloves, but the design philosophy is clearly the same.

You know I really don't care if the guy who saved me was a *********. So long as he saved me.

oh new update? Last I checked the one with rusty getting kicked through the building was up.

You know, as a super-big fan of Kinetic Melee.... I wouldn't be opposed to trading power siphon for momentum.. maybe.. possibly.

they'll drop when your shoulders give out from lugging that big thing around all day

you know who would look really good in the new CoT costume pieces? Better than the generic pieces with awesome pieces slapped on top that they had? the Rulu-shin.
think about it.
anyways
/signed eyeballs, me wants. -
Sooo I love getting awesome art. I love CoH. I'm too broke to actually commission much. And if I do, I want it to be great. What does this have to do with anything?
Well there's this favorite character of mine. Mobilise, I love him,his powers, and of course, his design.
BUT! there's quite a few details I'd really love to perfect that aren't available in-game. One of which is his symbol.
It's supposed to be a more stylized representation of an open hand, and to evoke his theme of motion and action via a swirling vector arrow motif. That I'd like to continue elsewhere in his costumes, but that's for later.
The idea is an arrow would start at the center of the "Palm", spiral around a few times and then zig-zag up and down across the top of the spiral enough times to form four "fingers", then dipping down at the side and jutting out into a "thumb" at a soft curve.
kind of like this.
but the hope is something that looks more like it was drawn with a single flowing stroke of the brush/pen/marker,without separate pieces, unlike the one above, and ends in an arrow at the "thumb."
If this symbol could be tilted just a bit, as a subtle indicator of his somewhat shady nature and skewed morality, that would be even more perfect.
If anybody would be kind enough to help me with this I'd really appreciate it. -
Quote:To be fair. The camera crew/publicist actually looked him up and asked to follow him, not the other way around. It's interesting how you and Innovator keep invoking the "I hope you never need anyone's help" rhetoric, as though what I said had anything to do with helping people in need.
I'm gonna go over this one more time, just because I'm an optimist, and then I'm done with you. We're not talking about someone who, in the course of a day, ran across a situation in which someone happened to need help, and who then rendered said help out of the goodness of his heart. That is heroic. I have no problems with that.
What we're talking about here is a guy who dressed up in a rubber superhero costume, acquired a camera crew, and went around on "patrol", ergo, looking for trouble. This is not the act of a good Samaritan doing the Civic Thing for fellow-citizens in trouble. This is the act of either a) a delusional fantasist or b) a narcissistic publicity hound. One is pitiable, the other contemptible. In neither case is he providing a valuable service to his neighbors (except possibly by accident) - he's just as likely to make any given situation worse. And in neither case has he anyone to blame but himself if he gets roughed up, locked up, or both. He's lucky he hasn't gotten shot up.
So, to recap: I'm not down on helping people who need help - on the average Joe becoming a hero by circumstance, by being the one who finds himself in the right place at the right time. I am down on people like this guy who think they can arrange their heroic moments themselves and then put 'em on YouTube. That's only one step removed from these rogue firefighters who set fires you hear about now and then.
Cave Johnson, we're done here. -

totally awesome, what's a good time to get with you in-game?
