I was wondering, what AT / power set is capable of the absolute highest single target DPS? Fire/Energy Blasters? Dark/Shield Scrappers or Brutes? Sonic/Kin Corruptors? Or is it too close to call?

[/ QUOTE ]

I think there's a lot of variables tied to this question. How long does the DPS have to be sustained? 20 seconds or 20 minutes? Solo or teamed? Can the player use other enemies as buffbots for Soul Drain or not?

On the scrapper boards soloing a pylon is generally considered a good metric for DPS. Currently I have seen a time of 5:15 recorded by a Fire/Shield scrapper which is very good, the best I can remember seeing. I have recorded a time of 5:45 with my Dark/Shields but I only attempted it a few times just to see, I think he's capable of shaving at least 30 seconds off that time, but it took a lot of fodder for Soul Drain which Fire doesn't need.

I did knock Woodsman out in about 2:45 seconds. From the time I first damaged him to the moment he dropped.

If teams are allowed and buffing from teammates then that changes everything. Brutes have a much higher damage cap than scrappers so they might pull ahead in that scenario. Possibly far ahead.
2. That looks VERY solid to me! Now get out there and kill those AVs!

With that chain, I think you'd be better off switching the Dam/Rech for Damage in both Slash and Focus.

I'd change the Miracle Heal/End for a Numina Heal/End - the third set bonus is the same, but Numina goes up to 50 and gives more health. Every % you can grab is important without Aid Self.

Other random thoughts I don't feel like doing the math for :

Is the BU Proc better than a damage proc with that build, seeing as you're going to have FU stacked so much and damage bonuses from Red Fortunes, Apocalypse ?

What's the better choice between 4 impervium and one additional slot in CP, for end management ? Dropping CP downtime from 90s to 70s seems big to me (and it'd allow for +1.5% HP with 3 Titanium Coating in Tough).

As for Stamina, another slotting option would be 3 perf shifter and 2 efficacy adaptor for an additional +1.12% hp, losing +2.5% dam and +2.5% recovery.

Looks like between Focus and Shockwave, you could keep ~80 ranged DPS while kiting for regen... Interesting.

[/ QUOTE ]

Hi Nihilii,

I really hadn't looked at much other than the recharge to get to where the chain would run. Many good points to consider. Paricularly the ones about dropping the additional recharge from Slash and Focus. I'll play with the build more seriously this week I think.
4. The Holy Grail of Claws.

I was looking at my new Fire/SR brute's build thinking, "Man, he's got a lot of good stuff going on there! Look at all that native recharge without Hasten!"

So that led down the path to Excelerate. Wondering how close I could get him to FU>F>S.

I didn't quite make it but it's pretty good. I thought I would share and let the numbers folks have a crack at the build if they're interested.

The goal was NOT just to be able to run the attack chain. All other normal AV soloing needs apply as well. Healing ability (in this case just regen, *winks @BillZ), endurance management, etc.

So here's the build with a question.

I calculate the gap at .116 seconds. Is that gonna matter?

Ok Powerforge, after watching your amazing videos, Hella Congo Ratz BTW on all those AV's, I have a couple of questions for you;

Claws/Regen

Claws/Sr

Dm/Sd

Obviously, the Claws/Sr and Claws/Regen would be cheaper to soft cap correct? Is Dm/Sd realy that costly to soft cap to do what you were doing in the videos with October? Or if I decided to go with Dm/Sd would I be better off on Red side where I have the resources to pay fr the IO's for it?
If it would be cheaper for me in the long run to stay as a Brute because of current resources that I have red side, shold I just make the Dm/Sd Brute then?
Would my Dm/Sr Brute who is currently 25 work decently to the point that I should just stick with him and just farm more Inf for the cost of IO's?

Heh, sory with all the questions, as I just woke up and the servers are down for Maintenance and I am still working on my first cup of coffee trolling all the boards.

If you think it would be more cost effective to just stay Red Side with a Dm/Sd Brute or my Dm/Sr I will....Then I will have to make my Fire/Rad Troller to bring over for Rogue (Obviously there is no hurry in lvling it just yet hehe, thats why all the questions and trial and error on my part...I got some time to play with yet)

[/ QUOTE ]

Hi Rag!

I'm sorry it took so long to respond to you. I really needed to take a break for a night from my PC

As to all your questions it looks like they've all been answered!

I will tell you that as far as expense goes both Excelerate and Saint October have hugely expensive builds. Of the two Excelerate was cheaper and I think in general Claws/SR will preform better for less money.

If cost is no object nothing will out perform DM/SD for killing AVs but it's not quite as good for all all around play or teaming.

Good Luck!
7. [ QUOTE ]
Is the Claws set heavy in Endurance usage to worry about slotting for max End Recovering?

[/ QUOTE ]

Definitely not. You'll do great with two slots in each.
8. Reyne hits it right on the head as far as I am concerned!

Claws is a good choice for you I think, also Firey.

I'm in a similar boat as yourself in fact. I have played Blue exclusively for three years and just decided to roll a Brute with Going Rogue announced. I eventually went with Firey/SR which would also serve you really well as a scrapper. Both sets can be very effective cheaply, while leveling but can also really excel at 50 with lots of influence poured into them. In fact I'd say they improve at pretty much an even pace. Getting steadily better as you put more into them rather than needing a ton of cash to take to the next level. Claws may actually lag behind Firey really. I just have a special affection for the Claws set as Excelerate was my first AV killer. The build I am considering for my Firey/SR brute however has me really excited. It looks to outperform Excelerate in every way except attacking multiple hard targets (i.e. a double RWZ challenge type thing).

Now if you want to truly build something nasty for AVs and you don't care terribly that your farming won't be stellar DM/SD can't be beaten imo.

btw Welcome to Bule!

Powerforge, your chain gets 218 DPS and 2.935 EPS, Werners gets 200 DPS and 2.766 EPS.

[/ QUOTE ]

Excellent! Thanks Bess
10. [ QUOTE ]
Unless you want swords, I'd go with Incinerate -> Scorch -> Cremate -> Scorch. About 7% lower DPS than the Incinerate -> Cremate -> GFS -> FS chain, but it takes one less attack, and uses 11% less endurance. It's what I would probably use if I were making a Fire scrapper. And for a brute, it's even better, because Scorch is your fastest attack, and Brutes can't stop for endurance.

You're looking for +145% recharge in Incinerate, or 4.09 seconds.

[/ QUOTE ]

Hi Werner!

I think I'm going with this. Still not positive but it looks like it will run Inc>Cr>FS with only a .05 loss of endurance/sec total which is close enough to forever to be good with me.

Plus I get two AoEs!

How does the overall DPS stack up in that single target chain compared to the one you suggested? I know the build is crazy expensive but I got time.

11. Thank you everyone for all the /assist! I'm set on Firey/SR now. It jives really well with my concept and looks to be pretty damn powerful too. You guys really gave me some great advice here.

Thanks again.
12. Gah! So I looked again and my recharge rate on Incinerate is down to 3.25 which is where it needs to be to make the chain gapless. Sooo we're back to the question of whether it overwrites or not.

Anyone know?
13. [ QUOTE ]
While all fire attacks are reasonably fast, none of them is lightning fast either. The average attack speed is fairly even with most sets and they have limited options for alternating attack chains (one for building fury and one once it's built up). It's definetly good at building fury (my only level 50 villain is Fiery/WP).

Endurance shouldn't be that much of a problem if you slot for it, FM has really good DPE. Running away from an AV to recover isn't something I'd advise for a Brute, while it would work well for a Scrapper the Fury loss would really hurt the Brute.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes, running isn't a good choice for Brutes very true. The good news is that the attack chain proposed in the last build I posted (Inc>Cr>FS) costs 15.11 endurance to run. It's Arcanatime to cast appears to be 5.148 seconds.

15.11/5.148= a loss of 2.935blahblahblah. We'll call it 2.94. Net endurance recovery with all toggles running is 2.89 for a loss of .05 endurance per second.

I'm ok with that.

Now I guess the question is does it do enough damage? Jupiter raises some points but I think they were addressed? I don't know. I would bet that the damage ticks get overwritten. Maybe they stack though? Does anyone know the answer there?

*edit* I just saw the last part of your post Jupiter. Looks like it's ok?
14. Jeez, here I am posting three times in a row about this. I really am sorry. I'm in the shower. I swear.

My understanding was that attacks that build fury need to be less than two seconds cast time. I've not looked into the numbers at all. I might even be remembering that incorrectly but if it's right...

All three of those attacks are less than two seconds cast time even factoring in Arcanatime right? So I'd be building Fury nonstop?

This really can't be right but please break it to me gently if you see what I'm doing wrong here.
15. ok, real fast before I get in the shower.

In the interest of conserving endurance I am taking a close look at GFS. I'm sure I must be doing something wrong but it looks like GFS DPS is less than Incinerates? For so much more endurance per attack? In fact it looks like I can remove it, move the Hecatombs to Incinerate and add Fire Breath for concept and two AoE attacks. Then I could just run Inc>Cr>FS for less end and I think even more DPS?

Is that right?

That can't be right.

Remember that Brutes don't have access to CP, so if you're aiming for an AV soloer (with the same limitations of no insps, etc), then your end management will have to be really tight.

If you're just going for fun, not so much.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes, definitely looking to solo a few AVs. Now, endurance will be a bigger factor to be sure. I don't, however mind having to retreat occasionally to recover. I know that flies in the face of most current AV soloing logic but as long as it isn't excessive and I'm still moving forward pretty rapidly I'm fine with it. Foregoing Hasten will stretch endurance out considerably, as I can atest with Excelerate. Still going to keep a very close eye on it though.

Here's a very fast and dirty swap of powers with what I was considering when I was EM. I'm still looking at all the numbers and attack chains etc so there could be problems with the build to overcome that I don't see but it looks pretty promising at the moment.

Point out any concerns if you see them please.

post your new fiery melee build

[/ QUOTE ]

Haha there's no build yet. I'll get to it soon enough I'm sure.

The best is (IIRC) GFS, Incinerate, Cremate, and you need Hasten to make it work, but GFS, Incinerate, Cremate, Fire Sword is pretty close and doesn't require Hasten.

[/ QUOTE ]

and gloom!!

gloom really is all that AND the bag of chips

[/ QUOTE ]

Yeah, I know it's good. If I was after the single best DPS I'd take it in a minute! The question here though isn't do I have the very best DPS? It's do I have enough DPS? and I think this guy is gonna have way more than enough.

Plus there's that cancer thing.
19. [ QUOTE ]
It might not be worth using on the main build, but... Breath of Fire would be pretty cool IMHO on a Desert themed character.

Your costume is great btw, awesome design as always.

... And saying this, I realise it'd look silly for him to spit fire through his mask.

[/ QUOTE ]

Haha wellll, I might just do it anyway. It really fits the concept very well you're right!

and guess what name I just grabbed?

Desert Son ( i.e. Desert Sun )

and that pretty much seals that deal! Firey it is!

Awesome! Thanks Nihilii!

This is really looking up! I've wanted some type of Desert themed character since I first encountered the King of Cool, Scirocco!
21. [ QUOTE ]
If you enjoy the set for concept reasons then by all means go for it, I'm just chipping in with my opinion from personal experience. Maybe you can make the combo work better than I did >.<

[/ QUOTE ]

Yeah, it's a tough call really. I do enjoy the set for concept reasons but I might actually be able to use Firey as well. Certainly he has a bit of a desert raider look to him. His backstory is very rough as it is so I'm sure I could fiddle with that a bit. Firey just seems to have a magical flare to it and this guy's obviously tech.

Stil.. I'm warming to the idea more even as I type.

Hmmmm.

Let's say we wait on concept for the moment. What's the best Attack Chain for Firey, not including Gloom and do I need Hasten to make it work?
22. Good advice everyone thanks.

I'm really trying to stay away from Gloom for concept purposes though. DM would be ok I guess, then I could add Gloom as it would mate well with the primary. I'd really rather not do Fire for the same reason. I don't know, still thinking about it all.
23. /sigh

Well, I've already been able to make several positive changes Increasing my regen to 314% with really no downsides. That at least puts me in the positive I think. Trouble is I also nocticed I had Quickness toggled OFF.

I'll have to run the math all over again on the attack chain.
24. [ QUOTE ]
Uh... brute smash?

(Seriously, that's all I know. Never calculated a thing for brutes. Just went and smashed. )

[/ QUOTE ]

Oh that's ok. I know it's in the wrong forum, I'll keep working on it. 50 is a ways off.

Frankly I'm just enjoying the ride tremendously. It'll be interesting to see how I feel when it's all done.
