3) 'Plexing over how to slot and IO them. I find this a mental exercise that ranks right up there with foreshortening and relief sculpture.
[/ QUOTE ]
That is mental exercise! -
I'll preface this post with an warning: I like mind the way it is, I have a lvl 50 mind/ta, and I love it to pieces, and I'm not calling for this change necessarily, just an idea that hit me, and I wanted to release it upon the forums.
Here it goes:
There have long been complaints about Mind's lack of pet, and somewhat "lackluster" (I disagree) tier 9 power. This lead me to wonder, "what could still make mind unique, but satisfy those who want a pet?" And it hit me. A long term, slow recharge, single target enemy confuse power. Effectively, it would make your foe, your pet. It would be unstackable so bosses and higher would be out of the question, making Lieuts your best shot (Or buffers/debuffers). This would lead to interesting pet strategy, and the user's choice as to what kind of person they want at their side.
Granted, I'm sure creation of this power, making sure enemies then read the pet as a target would be tough, and probably outside the scope of possibility, but I'd sure like to see how it might work.
Also, pets would die after the mission ends, like the other controller pets, being zone dependant.
Anyway, just thought I'd toss that out there, dunno if anyone has said it before, probably have.
Back to work! -
I've started this brute...and I have one thing to say.
2 short range superior damage teleport powers? FUN!
(Edit: I apologize for having wasted your time)
-
This idea seems to be a good way for me to get past the annoying tanking levels...
I may use this up until 22 and then go on to story arcs, so I can feel like a tanker. -

Ice wouldn't be bad if you can get past the DPS of a kitten.

Thats awesome. It sounds like dark/wm would be a good thing to give a go at. I'm not looking in to ridiculous IOing out my build, but I'd like to be tough with either regular IOs or a couple sets.
Now I wish I wasn't at work! -
Ice Epic isn't bad, you get an additional rain power and Frost breath for additional AoE damage.
But then again, I just like ice powers. So that's always where my vote will go. -
Alright,
Fire Aura is out of the question, I'm going with dark, and I'm going the Presence pool as well to try and stack some fear action, which means CoF is looking tasty. Question becomes...what secondary? (no DM, I hate matching) -
Yea, I see it as vastly more necessary for a Dark, simply because consume can -sort of- take some end pain away.
Why do I put so much thought in to tanks!
I just love em too much I guess. -

darks biggest problem is endurance.
dark regen and CoF are huge blue suckers, and are a vital part of your survival mitigation at lower levels.
WHEN you mature, these are much less of an issue (slotting, set bonuses, powers, etc).
you can always sell one -kb IO, then get the res -kb IO later.
I believe the defense sells for more.
or take weave on a fire tank, but that will happen in the 30-40's?
fire/fire (take tough) is always fun.
fire/ice - not the raw potential of fire/fire, but I could solo from lvl 20 on (large mobs) and hunt in restricted zones due to ice patch+burn (for many, this effective one trick pony gets old).
if I didnt make a fire/fire, I'd probably go dark (more mitigation, but hard on the blue bar).
dark/dual blades sounds interesting.
I'd go dark/mace if I had to do it again. stacking stuns (OG), and wouldnt bother with CoF.
LOTS of builds for dark/mace posted recently.
[/ QUOTE ]
I've heard nothing but bad things about CoF :P, but the Mace set has always intrigued me, I just never gotten past 15 with it...but I attribute that to playing it with invul when I hated invul.
I may just give several things a whirl and see what sticks, but if anyone can come on in with a great idea that i simply can't turn down, feel free! -

We actually play over near Congress. If you saw a team in pink getting their [censored] kicked, that was us.

That's awesome, I probably did see you, I was all over DC. I'm in NoVa as well, neat stuff. -

What kind?? whats a good secondary for both/either to make a tough tanker out of me?
[/ QUOTE ]
If you're going Tanker, I'd say that a Dark Armor/DB character might be fun. You never see that combination around. Dark Armor/Stone gives you a lot of control, but sucks down endurance.
[ QUOTE ]
Also, Aett, are you really Kickballin' in VA? Because I tend to find myself doing things in VA :P
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually, this year, we're kickballin' in DC, but I do live in NoVA.
[/ QUOTE ]
...Are you one of the people I saw playing kickball near the monuments in DC? That'd be weird and coincidental.
Also, I feel like DA should be a well rounded set, and yet I hear it very maligned a lot, and dont' see many tanks above the teens around, it makes me worry.
But, on that note, i'm totally gonna be rolling up a DA/DB, I've got an inv/stone, so I'm kinda tired of stone -

I was just hunting my way around, running some missions. and before I logged, I check to see what recipes I had, and behold! 2 Karma -kb ehancers!
Now, this makes me think it's time for a fire or DA tank, since I'll be free from acrobatics. Any suggestions? I'm open to just about anything! -
I loved Inv/Stone, but soloing early on can be a chore. Shield/Dark is fantastic as Kruunch said, I'm rolling one up currently, and I'm having a blast.
If you want a weapon? I've always heard that Ice/Mace is a pretty great build, capable of fighting everything at least pretty well, and you do get 14% "resistance" to all damage types in range of CE as far as I remember, so that's a plus, and mace has decent mitigation. -
Fire/Kin! Shoot it!
Just so I can keep the amount of ire I earned for saying that in a different Fire/Kin thread, I brought it here too.
That being said, I wish I could afford such shiny IO bonuses. -

I've got one at 50 and it was a blast. I ran with Assault and Tactics and found I had no trouble finding teams. They love the debuffs and leadership.
One single problem: I want oil slick to ALWAYS LIGHT. Argh!

...little more backup than "but comic book tankers..." which even the devs have noted is not a valid statement.
[/ QUOTE ]
I disagree with this. We're playing a game based on comic books, so it seems to me that the expectation that the game should behave like the comic books is paramount. That said, Game Balance MUST be retained.
[/ QUOTE ]
Can't be done. It really can't. Comic books themselves don't behave like each other, within the same series or between different series. Should we have people with the power level of Superman, or Batman? Of the Silver Surfer, or Kitty Pride? Of the Hulk, or Thunderbird? These characters have vastly different power levels, but are all in the comics. How do you get the game to behave like a Silver Surfer comic, and also like the Batman comic? You can't. You just can't.
So, what you aim for is trying to get as decently close as possible, within the framework of the game. This game, at inception, didn't have ATs. You could choose any two power sets you wanted. It was closer to the comics than the game is today, with a wider range of power levels in it. You could have Tank-Mages, and you could have complete gimps, with no offense except brawl. How do you balance a game with that wide of a power level difference? You also have people tending to choose the path of least resistance, often times choosing it over concept. As such, people tended to make more Tank-Mages, able to survive and dish out a ton of damage. It made the game ridiculously easy.
Because of that, the Devs made the AT system. The AT system does not exist in the comics. It just doesn't. You have characters that emulate certain ATs (or, more accurately, the ATs emulate those characters), but you never get exacts. Each character in the comics can usually do something that this game won't allow them to do. The Ancillary Pools try to fill in these gaps to some extent, but can't cover every case. Conversely, we have characters in the comics that would be woefully underbalanced if they came into this game (Storm would have Storm Summoning, but no blasts, for instance; the Invisible Woman would have almost no offense at all).
This game is an MMO inspired by comic books. It is NOT a comic book MMO. It has taken a specific power level, and used that as a baseline for it's characters to have. It then goes from there to work out how each AT will fit into that baseline level. When doing so, it will likely divert largely from the source material. Sure, the Devs can try to keep it as close as they can, but it's not going to be very close. To get closer, you need to not be an MMO, where balance issues don't need to be addressed, and you can just imitate a specific character and not worry about different power levels between your characters.
[/ QUOTE ]
I agree with this comment wholeheartedly. And I believe the fact that "this is an MMO with Super Hero Elements, not a Super Hero MMO" is about the best we can do. -
[ QUOTE ]
I can't get into FF. I had one in the mid 30s that could softcap people, but it was SO boring compared to other sets. I deleted the toon in favor of others and don't regret a thing.
I could see having more fun with a bot/ff mm though.
[/ QUOTE ]
More fun with a bot/ff MM? I consider MMs to be tops for more boring AT personally, I feel like I'm not doing anything at all. -
