[/ QUOTE ]Why do I get the feeling that Ghost wiow is going to be the most popular patron? -
Is it me or does that water spout sound also sound like a pet?
Looks like prity much each set is 1 AoE attack, 1 toggle shield, 1 pet and 1 other
2 sets having end drain (Dark Consumption & Power Sink)
1 set has a single target debuff + damage (Poisonous Ray)
1 set has a mini pet (Water Spout)
I think that Scirocco's set will be the PvP choise, a resist s/l & energy would be very usefull against the /energy blappers and energy melee, which are popular for PvP.
Must say I'm a bit stumped as to which to choise -
I'd say dom's do more direct damage than controllers (execpt illusion I expect)
however controllers have the buffs/debuffs from the defenders which allows them to do more practial damage than a dom & buffs/debuffs are more team friendly.
Rad and Kin are especially good for damage output, but how good is the damage output on a ice/forcefeild controller? -
Well PvP has diffrent requirements to PvE
I'd sugest that you want to slot your single target hold
2acc 2hold 2recharge or 2acc 3hold 1recharge + hasten
You need this power up and stackble on hold resistant people.
Your single target confuse should be slotted too, some of thoes hold resistant people don't have confuse resistance (make sure you hold people running tactics as this gives resistance now) Prime targets for confuse are buffers/debuffers and taunters
Slot Fear, it's the least resisted mes power and very good in PvP.
I've not done any base raids yet so I don't know how good AoE will be, generaly in PvP people don't bunch as much as in PvE so your not going to hit many with AoE. -
There are a few of us who do complain if our powers seem too powerfull.
Seeds of confusion is quite powerfull but it has some down sides, like the short range, lower mez number, the accurricy penaulty. So I wouldn't say it's over powerfull -
Ether:
A) Turn into a AoE holding, confusing, immobliseing, attacking maniac.
or
B) Die just before I click the button.
Sometimes I Do try to keep it for the end boss, esp if it's a hero/AV/EB and pray I don't die the spawn before.
Also I tend to hold onto it untill my powers are recharged, nothing worse and self destructive than going ape which nothing ready -
Nope he was in a terrible accident with a packet of frozen peas
On the plant side, I'd skip the single target immoblise and the tree of life (a regen buff is not that usefull)
Seeds of confusion and carrion creapers are going to be your 2 most used powers, with the AoE Immoblise being great when used in conjunction with confusion.
Don't use Roots, the AoE immoblise on it's own as it attacts agro like no other power, but with that bit of damage a confused group will still give you xp even if you leave them to kill eachother.
The vines of carrion creapers are classed as pets so it's a great opening attack & alpha strike absorber.
For /Ice I'd focus on the single target attacks esp the melee ones and don't forget to take the power boost.
With that and domination you should be a vicious boss killer.
I've found the hard levels are the teens to eairly tweenties but it does get eaiser after that.
And don't worry if you have 3 debt badges by level 20 that's part of being a dom -
I was not being entirly serious
but if you want to get into it...
We can use brawl to compair base damage, as we are all Dominators and have the same brawl index.
If you look down that list of resistances you will notice (apart from many ?) that while other powers ae more often resisted, they are reststed less and have bonuses against some as well
Psi is predominatly 100%damage or 50%damage
Yes Psi is good in PvP for annoying people, I've posted before about the running battle I had with a stone tank, yes I could hit him with my Psi attacks but the damage output was too low to realy worry him. I died when a controller butted in and held me
However we should look at DPS and EPS so we should consider recharge and end cost too.
(I was only trying to point out that spines isn't the only one with long animation times and Psi is not all it's cracked up to beOh and thanks very much for thoes links
I've been looking for something like this, nice to know that mob have weakness as well as resistance)
-
yes nothing much resists psi, only all robots, council mechmen, hover bots, sky raider jump bots, turrets, etc etc
And now added all thoes lovely arachnos robots. EDIT:Execpt the Psi one
Ok it is un-resisted by quite a few mob, I wonder how many other mobs actually have resistance to other attacks?
If I ever had the time and patience I'd start compliing a list
(I can add that longbow seem to have ~20% s/l resistance)
Psi powers have fairly long animations (unchecked guess, the psi blast is about 1.5sec)
EDIT: here's thorns in Brawl Index for thoe who are too lazy to calculate it
Brawl 11.59 smashing
Thorny Darts 25.13 Lethal + 1.49*4 Poison = 31.09 (BI 2.68)
Skewer 52.86 Lethal + 3.321*4 Poison = 66.144 (BI 5.71)
Impale 39.5 Lethal + 2.98*4 Poison = 51.42 (BI 4.44)
Ripper 54.69 Lethal + 6.44*4 Poison = 80.45 (BI 6.94)
-
Ok I've run the tests now here are the figures for my plant/psi assault powers
Level 37 vs level 37 CoT Guide
Brawl 12.12 smashing
Strangler 5x6.87 smashing (BI 2.83)
Roots 6x3.12 smashing (BI 1.54)
Psionic Dart 18.76 Psionic (BI 1.55)
Mind Probe 55.24 Psionic (BI 4.56)
Mental Blast 31.27 Psionic (BI 2.58)
Psychic Scream 32.52 Psionic (BI 2.68)
Psionic Lance 86.33 Psionic (BI 7.12)
It looks like the figures on Character Builder 1.6.8.0 are rather off
I'd also like to add STOP whingging about how crappy /ice is and have a look at PSi
EDIT: I've just downloaded the new version 1.7.6.0 and the nubers seem correct -
I'm not 100% sure about this, what I know is from my playing experience I've not run tests of this.
It's to do with the way AV's & Heroes can switch on a mes restance boost.
The rate at which they can boost seems to have been increased.
Example
a month or so back I fought Aura, with Domination running I kept her locked down for prity much the whole fight and she went down fast
This week however I exemped down to help a frieds fight her and even with dom running the longest I managed to hold her was about 3 seconds.
Both times she was +1 to me and I was the only person with holds
I have since then also fought back ally brawler with the same resault.
I can only surmise that with the AV/hero scaleing has brought in some other change than effects there mes resistance
EDIT: As I've typed this I'm wondering if this has only effected heroes? -
Now I don't have an Ice/ dom but I'll make some observations:
I'd not drop glacer, an AoE hold is a great team emergance power, and I find AoE hold + single target hold is a great combination for holding bosses when you don't have dom running.
I'd replace one of the slows in chilling embrace for a 3rd end reducer, I know from my ice tank that chilling embrace is a major susvival toggle, it's a nice -damage(15%) and -recharge(30%) nether of which the slow enhancements will boost. SO it needs end reducers ti keep it up for longer. (oo er misses) -
Hello I'm jumping into this thread a bit late here
My main in CoV is a Plant/Psi dom currently lv37
And I do have some observations I'd like to put forward.
For me I found levels 10-22 the hardest, at these levels I had relativly few effective control powers (it was seeds of confusion that kept me going, but I'll not go into the problems I had with that one here) and few effective attacks.
Now I say effective because we never have the slots at these levels to slot both primary and secondry powers, coupled with TO/DO's means I was very very squishy, I think I spent the late teens early twenties in perma debt and I have the badges to prove it
Getting carrion creepers at 26 was a real turning point, it's a supereb alpha strike absorber.
I made the mistake of getting the psi push instead of mind probe, which I fixed with my 1st respect, this made a major imporvement in my solo ability.
What i've realised is that key damage powers in the dom assault sets are the melee attacks they do far more damage than any of my ranged attacks (execpt my sniper, however that has the major draw back of the intrupt and so can only be effectivly used when nothing is targeting you)
The other thing I'd like to point out is BEWARE of your AoE immoblise power, this is a massive agro magent.
Mobs realy seem to get more annoid at being immoblised for a small DoT than than being hit in the head by a far more damageing fire ball. (I realised this when a corruptor friend tried to pull the agro off me with a fire ball only for all the mobs to still shoot at me)
One thing I would like to add to the dominator vs controller debate/flame war is that in theos low mid levels when we have few control powers controllers have far more usefull buffs/debuffs which make them far more team friendly.
One thing that has annoied me recently is the change to AV/hero hold resistance. I'll admit that it was fun useing domination to perma lock down an AV but this new 3 second mes reset makes me far less usefull for AV killing.
There's no way in hell I'm going to run in close to use my high damage melee attacks when I only have around 3seconds to get in attack and get out again before he one shots me.
What I'd like to see for dominators is a slight increase in HP, punch index and a slight lowering on end costs of the assault powers.
PS when you did thoes damage tests I hope you had no damage enhancements slotted.
I'll hop onto test today and run the tests on the Psi assault powers I have. -
Ha do not speek of the feeble Corruptors, whoconstantly cower behind the Brutes and only take pot shots at thoes enemies who have been greatly battered by others.
For it is us who stand shoulder to shoulder with the brutes in the front lines and it is the choas we rain down uppon the enemies so that the brutes can wade in the knowldge they need not fear thoes who stand before us.
(A front line plant dominator, with the debt badges to prove it)

just gonna hijack the post a sec and ask is the cone on SoC very wide?
[/ QUOTE ]
It's quite wide, there's no problem getting a whole spawn inside it.
[/ QUOTE ]Yes but it's also quite short, I find I have to get quite close to reach the back of a spawn, God bless ss
I've not found it that much more accurate than any of my other AoE attacks

A plague on the damned Seeds Of Confusion!
- a disgruntled Mind Controller
[/ QUOTE ] 1 - it's far shorter range than ether of your 2 confuses and I often find that useing it by it's self the mobs still get a reaction to me, so I end up takeing an alpha strike even though I've confused the whole spawnthis has been from a stacked invis other and super speed.
2 - I do beleave that it's weaker than ether mind confuse power, I've watched mind controllers confuse a boss with far greater ease than I can.
So -
Yes there is a major problem with the psy drain that it cannot take accuricy enhancements.
it does drain from all around you, a go trick is to use a yellow insperation, AoE hold a group then jump in and drain.
not sure on my current slotting, I think it's 2 endurance recovery's and maybe 1 recharge
One thing to note is that Tatics from the leadership pool does boost it's accuricy but dominators don't get much of a boost from the leadership pool.
The Psi push is rubbish, I respected it out.
I've not bothered with the single target immoblise, why when you already have get one? ok not as much damage but it recharges twice as fast so it will actually do more overall damage.
Mind probe is great for solo work, hold, run up close, zap!
Psi scream is great for team work, nice damage, nice AoE, also good on AoE held mobs
Psi lance is your sniper attack, so long range, high damage, takes ages to fire off and is interuptable. I'm still undecided if sniper attacks are worth it, esp at level 35 by that time pulling is rare and what tends to happen is that by the time it's fired off someone else in the team has already killed my target.
I'm still one level short of Psi shockwave so cannot say anything about that.
I know psi is listed as a rarely resisted damage, but I'm not so sure about this in PvE, it seems to have weak damage to start with, most mob's seem to have a base damage resistance based on level differnce. I don't actually spot many mobs who are weak vs one damage type, there's a few that have additional resistance to 1 damge type (robots & turrets are resistant to Psi)
In PvP it's more noticeable, few people have resistance or defence vs Psi, so it tends to hit more often and the damage doesn't get reduced often.
I had a good running battle with a stone/stone tank in granite armour the other day, I died when a controller came up behind me and held menot that I had done any real damage to the tank, but I was hitting him which is like "a red rag to a bull"

Don't take Dark Pit. It's totally the most useless power i've had during my 5 months i've been playing.
[/ QUOTE ]
Tell me about it...
I HAD it before the respec. Oh God... The idea isn't bad. I mean, a mass stun spell is nice. But not with such stats. Poor accuracy and even poorer duration make this spell useless.
[/ QUOTE ]WHat?? why do people keep saying this??
Ok I'll admit to not haveing a dark/ corruptor but I do have a emp/dark defender.
Yes dark pit is not too good stright out of the box and does need slotting however it can be very good if used in combination with other powers.
For my defender I run:
dark pit 2-acc 3-stun 1-recharge
tenticals 1-acc 2-immoblise 2-def debuff
Night fall 1-acc 3-damage 1-def debuff 1-recharge
Hasten 3-recharge
Tactics 2-acc buff 2-end reducers
the simple tactic is to chain these 3 powers together.
Dark pit, stuns up to +2 with ease
tenticals, stops them wandering off
night fall, damages the group
Rince and repeat
The 2 sets of debuff help against any mob's missed but the pit untill it's recharged.
While tenticals is great for pinning down mobs othing argo's them quite like an immoblise, hench the stun, they cannot attack they cannot move they just stand there and get pounded.
Belive me this tactic work very well, you can keep quite large groups under a perminate stun & immoblise, the only real problem is bosses who are very hard to stun with pit, you will need 3 in quick sucession (ie no misses and while hasten is running)
If it was not for dark pit then my emp/dark would be near enough unsoloable.
Side note, slotting
I'd say your best bet is to start with 2acc in each attack (1 if you have tactics) then 3 damage. Only once you have the acc and damage in should you consider the debuff or end reducers. (if you are having problems with end, then don't bother to put recharges in blasts that recharge fairly quickly anyway, all you will do is eat end faster)
Moonbeam is great in solo, but less use for teams. The interrupt time means by the time it's just about to go off someone else has already killed the target -

Exelent work Chelsea, esp on the MM movie.
Quick question what program did you use to do the edditing/wipes/effects? -
[ QUOTE ]
Doesn't invisibility untoggles automatically if you try to interact with something else?
[/ QUOTE ]Nope you just cannot interact, click a power and nothing happens it's very annoying.
Even with targeting drone and tactics you can have problems seeing stalkers if they are running stealth and hide. From my verious tinkerings I find that tactics & IR goggles seem to give you small +perception boosts however a yellow insp (even the small one) give you a greater boost than any one power I've tried. (not used the targeting drone so I cannot comment)
Your best bet is to pair up with a dark or storm def, if you're both running tactics then that's a double bonus and the have +stealth PbAoE toggle powers that should stack with cloaking device.
Invis other is good as when invis'd this way you can still act. -
Sounds like Fun Kin
I'll try and make it (Ok I've not got biomentia up to 35 yet But I have wandered around thorn island)
