Quote:That just means all those people would have to do, assuming they care, is pay $15 for a month, get on their characters, log off, then cancel their sub. Boom, names still saved./don't care
If it's done, I think CoX should send out a mass mailing to last known addy's first warning of it (or at least last known e-mail addy's) rather than just BOOM do it. I haven't been around long but I understand it's long been the policy the names wouldn't be purged so it's only fair to give those who went to limbo every chance to be warned before the policy shift...
Though, to be snooty, I must openly wonder how recycling names adds to creativity... Wouldn't creativity be more urged on by forcing people to come up with original names??? (Yeah, yeah, yeah, some peoples creative visions NEED a specific name... I'm just being difficult.)
There are a lot of people who only play for double XP weekends. Should they lose their character names? Personally, I say yes. If you are only around for 3 days out of every few months, you shouldn't be allowed to hog up character names.
so...
/yes for me -
Gambler's Cut?
I picked Sting of the Wasp cause I heard GC was terrible.
Guess I'm too much of a scrapper player myself -
AE stories?
What AE stories?
It's filled with farm missions. I can't see any stories! -
But seriously! Look at his avatar! IT'S FREAKING OUT, MAN!
-
People would probably look at global names more than the indiviudual character name, now.
So there could be a million Animorphs, but they'd look for @Animorph or @The NightTracker if they knew it was you, and would ignore everyone else with that name :P -
And even then that and Virtue2009 or whatever it's called only ever have TF/SFs and AE in them when the occasional person looks for teams.

Quote:Alright. I was idling in the D tonight and it's a past-time of mine to go through descriptions and read characters in the Movie Trailer Voice-over style; as I was doing this I thought, Huh. Drinking Game.
So here it is! Understand that this is all in good humor and isn't intended to poke fun at any specific group or type of roleplayer - I try to take shots at everyone equally. ;3
Feel free to add to it, too!
LET IT BEGIN*
Every time you see a vampire, werewolf, sorceress or magician, take a drink.
Every time you see a catgirl, take a drink.
Every time you see a fox character, take a drink.
Every time you see a dog character (non werewolf), take two drinks.
Every time you see a dragon, take a drink.
Every time you see a lizard character (non-draconic), take a drink.
Every time you see a demon, angel, half-demon, half-angel, or winged character, take a drink.
Every time you see a character under 5 feet who isn't a child, take a drink.
Every time you see a child character, take two drinks (ankle biters!)
Every time you see a girl in booty shorts, take a drink.
Every time you see a BOY in booty shorts, take three (you probably need it)
Every time you see skin-colored tights, eden pasties, or fishnet shirts, take a drink.
Every time you see a black trenchcoat, take a drink.
Every time you see a character in armor, take a drink
Every time you see a character with pure white or pure black skintones, take a drink.
Every time you see a guy hitting on a G.I.R.L., take a drink.
If you're a guy and you realize you're hitting on a G.I.R.L., take three drinks.
*Please note that I don't condone anyone who shouldn't be drinking, drinking. This is all in good fun and honestly you could drink soda and just get a sugar buzz as soon as drink alcohol. ;3

I heard that if you put bits of bacon on a strip of bacon, you can go back in time.
Even if you can't, it still tastes good. -
The SG/VG I'm in RPs in our own teams constantly, and we aren't against picking up puggies, as long as they won't throw a fit and leave, or be an *** to us because we RP.
SO yeah, your best bet would be to find a good RP VG/SG -
Quote:I'm assuming AE has something to do with it.Is it just me or has there been more and more people like this around Virtue since AE showed up? Before people of Virtue would tell people like to go to Freedom, lol, but as of late I don't really see a difference in our servers.
I know, I know, beat the dead horse...
People see that now there's a way to level up really fast, and it attracted all the other MMO kids who will farm their way to 50, make a PB/WS/VEAT, rush those to 50, then quit because "there's no content" -
No, you aren't the only one.
In my mind, people who talk about that kind of stuff are sick. I don't care if it's "virtual" or not, because they thought of it. Meaning in their minds, they thought "I'm going to look at child pronz" or "I wanna kill some kids!"
Thankfully, I haven't seen any junk like that in broadcast, as I usually stay faaaaar away from Atlas Park, but I'd definetly report them. -

My avatar went poof. I had to add it again.
...It still doesn't work..*cry* -

This probably isn't very surprising coming from me, but does anyone else find it a bit silly how much everyone's fussing over whether to say "I put a spider on your shoulder" versus "I attempt to put a spider on your shoulder"? I mean, it's not like the other player can magically control your mind or hack your computer and force you to actually say "Oh noes there is a spider on my shoulder I'm done for!" Does it really matter that much which exact choice of words they use? So long as they aren't being a jerk about it, it seems to me that either works fine, as someone said earlier you can always say "I dodge out of the way!" or something either way. And if they are being a jerk about it then a rule about proper word choice isn't going to stop them from being a jerk. They're just going to find another way to go about it. The whole matter seems like a lot of fuss over nothing to me.
[/ QUOTE ]
To these people, it does matter, apparently.
People will fuss about every silly little thing. -
Personally, I don't RP out in broadcast, I'll just: ((Any sewer teams out there?)) or the like, and I'll get the odd RP team or two.
Also, you don't have to roleplay everything you do. The RP buffs are probably going to be on my backs about this, but...It's your $15 a month, if you're in pocket D, or anywhere else, and just wanna wind down, not in the mood for anything, and someone starts to RP with you, you have all the right in the world to go ((sorry, not really in the mood to RP right now.)) -
[ QUOTE ]
Work WITH the other player to build on a conflict and you'll find those conflicts more fun to play. After all, in order for a story to happen, conflict needs to occur. Conflict is FUN! So don't shut someone down when they do something to initiate it. Instead, say "Yes, but..." or "Yes, and..." then build on it.
[/ QUOTE ]
In real life, you don't go up to the person you want to have a conversation with and say "okay, I wanna start a convo with you. How should we start it, how long should it go on, what should we say to eachother?"
Same thing with RP, it's not ALWAYS "work with the player to know EXACTLY whats going to go on, when to do a specific action, etc." Part of the fun is RPing with someone where you won't know their reactions.
Your post is telling me that you like to: metagame. Taking what the player knows, and using it in character, when your character shouldn't know, and godmod. Taking control of another player's character. (Like it or not, cooperating with someone before hand to script out how an RP will go is a faint form of godmodding. "Hey, I think you should do this when I do this" is indirectly the same as "I do this, he in response reacts like this".)
But hey, go ahead and do that for all I care. I'm not here to tell you how you should, or shouldn't RP, like the OP and a lot of you are saying.
You go your way, I'll go my way, if you get upset over how I do things, you need to relax and understand that this is just a game, and that you aren't going to be in control of everything like a DM in a PnP game is. -
[ QUOTE ]
I also noticed that when some people talk to each other they use their characters "real" name versus their hero name. Is it considered improper to try and use the hero name?
[/ QUOTE ]
My hero, Shadewing, uses that name for everything. Maybe it's because she forgot her real name for some reason, or just likes Shadewing better, I'm not sure yet.
There's no harm in using a characters "real" name or hero name.
Like...Another character I have, for her actual screen name has her real name, plus a title her friends gave her (backstory, whee) She'll probably never get a hero name, either. -
[ QUOTE ]
Looking at the above example, Character Y is an arachnophobic and Character X is playing a prank. Under normal circumstances, the sight of a spider would send Y into a fit of terror, but Y's player should be able to see the situation is comedic in nature. Therefore, Y may still react with fear, but perhaps do so comedically. IE, add in some slapstick with Y flailing madly, inadvertantly hitting X.
[/ QUOTE ]
Theres a difference between what the PLAYER knows, and what the CHARACTER knows. You're saying take knowlage the player knows, how hero X is trying to pull a prank, and use it to influence the character's actions, aka metagaming.
IRL, if someone put a spider on your shoulder, you'd have no idea if it was for a prank or otherwise, and if you were afraid of spiders, you'd freak out too.
now, to no one in particular.
By the way: the EMOs and CATGIRLS and DEVILDOODS and such are also *Gasp* VALID character concepts. You going off and ignoring them just because of what type of character they are also labels you an RP snob.
Yes, most of the above mentioned characters are bad, but don't label the entire network of them that way.
