  1. Here is the thing Z, this thread wouldn't be a joke if you could actually be honest with us. Being totally honest with us isn't your job though, you give us a PR spin on crap and try to keep us in line and be a buffer for your Dev team, and then report back to the dev's on the communities possible take on things and what they are on about this week etc.

Do I think during your weekly reports you will mention this? Sure that's your job. Do I think you will come back and give us the same courtesy hell no, again it goes against your job. So while I get that your doing your job I feel semi insulted on the "lets all get along and chit chat but nothing will come of this thread".

PvP isn't getting worked on anytime soon there is no need to get peoples hopes up for PR BS, only to crush them when as the months roll by nothing is done or announced. Most of us where in a static state of hopelessness, which is better than the up's and downs your starting. The few fixes and arena options we have now weren't even done on NC Soft time so NC Soft dev team didn't even give us that. One lone dev that actually cares did, to him TY.

So until you can say straight out what is or isn't planed with details IMO it's best to not say anything at all (I say that knowing that there will never be a plan announced until it's in the works). Again I'm glad you want to reach out to the PvP community but I don't think this thread will help but I see the hope in some peoples constructive posts and eventuality of the let down yet again. If you really want to reach out to the PvP community come out to the league matches one night, go to some of the server kickball nights, go to different servers and zone PvP with them. See what they are doing and talk to them.

You might want to do some research into CoX PvP and the constant let down that this aspect of the community gets. It's a small community now which is sad.

We will continue the enforcement of the rules when it comes to talking about other games, unless specifically requested for feedback purposes. There are many reasons we enforce this policy, not the least of which is to maintain the focus of this Community to be squarely upon CoX and everything related to it (including the Comic Book/Super Hero culture).

If you do have concerns regarding any of the rules here on the forums, I welcome you to send me a PM regarding it.
I was curious about this since there where these posts that kinda send mixed messages about the no talking about other games rule. I started to wonder if you knew there was a no talking about other games rule.

There's a right way and a wrong way to introduce free to play aspects to a preexisting game. A lot of people are looking at recent offerings with a very critical eye these days. There's a lot of things that companies have done well with (personally I respect what LOTRO has accomplished) and some that are missteps that the entire industry will look for ways to improve upon.

It's a personal belief that companies seeking to change their current business model should always do so with their current Communities in mind. Any sort of change should be done so that it gives your veteran (existing) players a show of appreciation and recognition of their support over the years. Yes, the prospect of expanding a Community via F2P is attractive, but the reason they're able to consider such a thing is because of their existing Community.

As a gamer, and a Community Manager I have a significant amount of experience with PvP Communities. As a Community Team we recognize that the PvP community in CoH is challenged and has a desire to know where PvP stands on the priority list for the development team.

In reading the forums here, I understand that there are many concerns and wishes regarding PvP. When speaking to the development team as a representative of Community interests, we convey these concerns, we express the frustrations and we make sure that the devs understand what it is you want out of your PvP experience. When speaking to the Community as representatives of the Development team, we convey that we have an understanding of player sentiment and what direction the development of PvP is heading.

The current development status of PvP, as the Community knows, isn't very active. For an extended period of time, development resources have been focused on improving and expanding upon other aspects of gameplay within CoH. With the introduction of Issue 20 and our continued focus on the PVE endgame, this will likely remain the case for the immediate future.

It would be easy to become disillusioned at the above statement. It would be easy to believe that the developers don't care about PvP in CoH. This couldn't be further from the truth. The spirit of competition is alive and well within us all and we embrace the fact that it's an important part of the game

    So where can we start?

I’m not here to rehash the existing bugs and problems; those are already well documented in the threads stickied here in the forums. Your grievances and issues with the current state of PvP in CoH are very clearly and concisely presented, and for that, the Community team thanks you. These tools make it much easier for us to present your case to the developers.

What I would instead like to talk to you about and get your feedback regarding it something that’s very important when it comes to Player vs. Player interaction: What are the best PvP experiences you’ve had, be it in CoH or any other game. We’re not talking about balance wise or delivery wise, but when you get down to it, what are the visceral and exciting PvP encounters that have left your heart pounding and your hands shaking? What is it about these experiences that made them so exhilarating and compel you to go out there looking for it again and again..?

You guys start, and after I’ve had some time to think about it, I’ll chime in and offer my two cents.

Talk with me; have an open, honest and constructive discourse with me. I'll continue dialog with all of you as long as you're willing . I can't promise to fix everything, but I can listen and convey, and hopefully help to focus us as a Community.

I'll check in on this thread periodically over the weekend as I can. Just so you know, I'm still mid relocating my family from the East Coast to the West, so weekends are difficult right now.

    BIG PROPS to you Z!!

I'm so so happy to have a community lead that doesn't drown us in corporate speak!

I mean wow, such a simple little thing as being open and forthright has gone a long way in improving Paragon Studio's image for me.

    Kudos

lol Ocho actually came to freedom and PvP'd with us. That's not corporate speak. I am sure you have good intentions Z so here is my answer

Most fun at PvP I have had was in this game pre i 13

Started with Base Raids with friends, then started going to siren's which back then was full even on Justice. Then i did a "learn to PvP' event on Justice. Then came i13 I'm still PvP'ing but i can honestly say I had more fun back then.
  4. Yes if your in the last mission for 3/4 of it your supposed to get the reward though i have heard from some it doesn't always work. I wasn't to bothered by it i find stuff like that very lol. If i was worried i wouldn't have pressed it by copy and paste'ing the tell in team chat. I found the "I'm leader I can kick you for sassing me" attitude amusing. The 2+ hours for a pug tf gets a bit long for me though, it's different with friends having fun and making jokes etc.

  6. I could did out the chat log but last 5 min went like this:

controller who can find objectives: Here (meaning clammor and last 2 hostages)

All but team leader and one other go to last room

Team leader and other person die

Flux tp's them team leader refuses tp other takes it and the rez and runs back to where team leader is

Team leader: Fine your on your own

Team clears where team leader is and rad tries to rez him

Rad troller: He must be afk I tried to rez 2 times

Team goes back to main room

me: I bet he's all pissy cause we didn't follow him so he is just going to stay dead.

    we kill clammor

Tell to me from leader: Exactly you need to follow the leader.

my reply: Leader went the wrong way

    we rescue hosteges

Tell from leader: Remember who has the kick button

me: I am about to be kicked copy and paste tell

we kill last scaner and complete before he can kick me

End of 2+ hour sis tf

    good times

Something to keep in mind when reading articles such as this. Yea though we link to it in the forums and on Facebook, the target audience for "gaming media articles" isn't always the active Community. Media outlets such as ZAM!, MMORPG.com or Massively give us a platform to reach a much broader range of readers who might be lapsed/former players of CoH or have never even picked up the game before.

Because we value direct and candid conversation with our active Community, we utilize venues such as the Producers Letter and direct communication through the forums to give the level of detail that the Community at large generally desires.

All that being said, we are certainly taking note of your concerns regarding the tone and content of this interview and will convey this feedback to Nate and "Slightly-Evil" Marketing (aka: Black Pebble).

    Thanks!

    - Z
We get the same BS about PvP even when it's directed at the community as well, so this doesn't address that. They won't commit to a time frame on either undoing what they did or fixing what they did whatever fluff way you want to word it. The non committal responses speak volumes for where it is (or isn't in this case) in the grand scheme of things. Here we are 7 issues later after their "we really care about PvP so much we are going to f it up and ignore all the PvP beta testers" and we have nada in the way of a PvP fix/finish of i13.

Great matches tonight, by far, the closest matches we have had all season long.

    Steel- 5:4 P3 over PH
    Graveyard- 8:9 PH over P3
    Skyway- 2:6 PH over P3

Next weeks practice I'd like to run some target calling drills and maybe talk about TK and how we can use it more effectively.
I think these where the most challenging and fun matches this whole season. I am truly impressed by the commitment everyone has showed to boot camp and to learning about PvP.
  12. I am actually suprised they asked a PvP related question. The fact it was dodged is not a suprise sadly.

My question is on the topic of reputation-eligible defeats. How is this determined? I assume there is a level gap involved. Does the character have to be within a certain number of levels? If so, how does this apply when entering a PvP zone or Arena match where the players are exemplared down where there is no level gap? For example, if a level 35 and level 50 character go to Warburg, the level 50 character is auto-exemplared down to 38. Does this mean they are now a reputation-eligible defeat since they are exemplared down to 38? Or does their actual level of 50 still apply and any defeats on them are not eligible?

I did a search on ParagonWiki, but I assume my search-fu is terribly weak because I know this info has to be there but I could not find it. Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

They need to be within 3 lvl's of each other. The auto explr in zones counts with this so yes you could farm using a lvl 50 killer and a lvl 35 rez'r. In arena it's true lvl so you can't take a lvl 50 and farm a lvl 1.
