Glad to hear you figured out how to drop the arc, but I just want to point out that an Ice blaster has several control powers that will completely neutralize a Boss level enemy.

Ice Blast has two Hold powers, Freeze Ray and Bitter Freeze Ray, both of which are mag 3 Holds. You could either hit a Boss with those two powers one right after the other, or if you only have one of those, you can stack the Hold magnitude by firing the same power repeatedly when it recharges. Then you can attack freely between using your Hold powers.

Ice Manipulation has a third Hold power as well, Freezing Touch. You also have access to a mag 3 Immobilize power with Chilblain along with -recharge in Shiver and knockdown in Ice Patch.

Boss encounters should be trivially easy for an Ice/Ice blaster to deal with.

There are also inspirations. Their purpose is to help players overcome challenging situations. There are few things that can't be overcome by popping a few inspirations.

Rather than give up and say something is beyond your skill level to deal with, wouldn't it be better to raise your skill level so you can deal with those challenging situations?

    That isn't an accurate statement.

Dual Blades animation times range from 1.03s to 3.3s. That's not particularly fast.

Compare that to Fire Melee, with a range of 1.0s to 2.67s animation time, and Katana with times from 0.67s to 1.83s. I would classify both Katana and Fire Melee as bringing more damage to the table than Dual Blades, yet they have faster animation times.

Speaking of fast animation times, Gambler's Cut from Katana has the shortest animation time of any Scrapper attack, yet is one of the highest DPA attacks available.

Nope, not at all. I'm sure the various multi-boxers, afk farmers and RMT'ers would be more than happy for the extra help.

Disclaimer: I am not making any moral or value judgments regarding any of the aforementioned activities, other than RMT which is clearly against the EULA.

Well, crap.. So much for that idea. I've been doing the same, watching the chat window, and I haven't been bitten again yet, but based on your experience it's probably only a matter of time then.

Got to give you credit for chutzpah, Snow Globe. First, it was I didn't have enough experience with Master runs on a low-pop server. Now, it's that I simply have "forgotten" all the bad experiences.

I have. Multiple times. More times than I can count. Yet you seem perfectly ready to dismiss that because you haven't experienced it.

    Who is being dismissive now?
I'm not denying anyone's stated experience is true. I simply offered my own alternative experience on my home server as a counterpoint. If you choose to interpret that, or my pointing out what is opinion vs. fact, as being "dismissive", then so be it.

It's clear that you've had negative experiences regarding the Master badges. I can't and won't speculate as to why that was. I'm truly sorry that you had that happen. You've formed an opinion based on your experience, that:

But, that's all it is. Your opinion. It is no more or less valid than anyone else's. Other player's opinions are different, based on their own experiences. You can't dismiss those experiences, no matter how convenient it is, by claiming lack of experience, or that the person has simply "forgotten" their bad experiences. That's just being intellectually lazy. Obviously, my opinion is completely contrary to your own. I think the Master badges are great for community building. I've made a whole slew of friends in-game that I would never have had the opportunity to, if it wasn't for the Master runs on my server. And so have many others..

Come on over to Protector, and give us a try. I wager you'll find a different culture. But, please leave that chip on your shoulder behind. The person who goes forth seeking negativity, often finds it where it doesn't exist.

Really? I haven't, eh? And you know this, how? Unless I'm just massively confused, I'm pretty sure Protector is a low-pop server. I'm also relatively certain I've been on successful (and failed) runs of every Master TF in the game multiple times.

Or is it simply that since my experience (and others apparently) contradicts your own, that it must be wrong and therefore dismissed?

I'm just going to repeat what I've been saying for the last couple months.
Simply repeating something over & over again, doesn't make it correct. It's nothing more than your opinion based on your own anecdotal experience, which is vastly different from my own.

These badges DO NOT promote community building.
Sure they do. There are regular weekly Master TF runs on Protector. We even have a global channel specifically dedicated to these. It is not unusual to have multiple teams running MoSTF or other Master TF's at the same time. They are always openly announced, both in-game and here on the forum. Anyone is welcome to join. I have NEVER seen anyone turned away where AT, powersets or IO's was the deciding factor. Players getting the badges for the first time are openly congratulated. Screenshots are posted of successful teams.

If that's not community building, I don't know what is.
  8. Wow.. All I can say after reading through the previous posts, is that I have never seen any of the negative behavior mentioned in this thread during any Master run.

*Never seen anyone excluded because of their AT, powersets, or not being IO'd.
*Never seen anyone get mocked or harassed because of a death.
*Never been on one that 'needed' the mythical perfect team, or wouldn't start without a Stone tank/brute or any other AT.

That right there sums up the root cause of any problems or issues any player has with the Master badges. It's a videogame, people. Relax and have fun!

I just wanted to drop back in and confirm this. I just pulled a couple pieces of salvage I bought out of the market. I watched the chat window which showed I had collected the items, but the market interface still displayed the items as being in a market slot for several seconds before they finally disappeared.

I'm not sure, but that's a damn good idea, if so. Going to check that out for sure.

Yep.. I was more than happy to see that 375 mil when I realized it had posted for 125K. Like I said, it could have been much worse.

It wasn't exactly a total loss. It sold for 375 million, which was the lowest of the last 5 by far, but it could have been much worse. Still, it was a good 100 million less than what it should have went for.
  13. Fulmens: I don't believe this will be a reproducible bug. Based on the multiple times it has happened to me, and comments made during my petition exchanges relating to those incidents, it appears to be simply an issue with lag in the interface.

An item is dragged from inventory and dropped into the market. The interface shows it is there, and allows you to enter a price for it and hit the Post button, but as far as the server is concerned, the item isn't really there yet, so your interaction with the market transfers over to another item.

Earlier today I had dropped a Glad Strike recipe into a market slot, then dropped 3 different Adjusted Targeting recipes into the market also. I entered prices & hit Post for each of the 3 Adj. Targ recipes in order. The first two recipes sold correctly. The third appeared to sell correctly. All three recipes disappeared from the Stored tab and appeared to have moved to the Sold tab. The Glad Strike still showed on the Stored tab. When I clicked over to the Sold tab, I saw that the first two Adj. Targ recipes had sold along with the Glad Strike recipe. Needless to say, I was a bit annoyed at posting a recipe worth close to 500 mil for a selling price of 125K.

This is exactly the situation I find myself in. After much deliberation, I have canceled both of my accounts, due to the current issues. I've played City of Heroes solid for two years. Not once during that time did anything cause me to consider canceling my subscription. Until now.

The market is a central part of the game, especially for those of us that regularly use the invention system. Between the poorly designed UI that forces extra work on us, and the bugs like pop-up warnings that can't be disabled & lag that causes the wrong items to be posted for sale, the frustration level is just too great. At latest count, I've lost a little over 150 million inf due to interface lag that was never there before. I'm afraid to try and sell or buy anything on the market. I've been advised by a GM that to avoid the interface lag I should close and re-open the market window for EVERY single transaction.

Hopefully the dev team will get these issues sorted out ASAP. If they don't, I think there is a significant risk of serious damage to the market's health. Until such time that they do, or until my current sub time runs out, I won't be putting anything up for sale on the market. Every drop is either going to be deleted, vendored, or if it's something good, crafted and dropped into storage.
  15. Well, I should have listed to my own advice and completely stopped using the market. The same bug bit me again, this time for a little over 45 million inf in incorrect listing fees. This time it took the listing price I entered for one recipe, and applied it to a whole stack of different recipes I had sitting in a market slot and posted them all up instead of the correct recipe.

There is clearly something seriously wrong with the market interface. I watched my steps VERY carefully this time to be certain I did not make a mistake the first time this happened.

This time, I had a Numina:Heal recipe sitting on the market, dropped an enhancement onto the market. Clearly clicked on the price box for the enhancement and entered a price of 5.5 million. Very carefully clicked on the Post button, double checking to be sure it was, in fact, the Post button for the enhancement, and watched in disgust as the Numina recipe posted and instantly sold instead of the enhancement.

This is absolutely unacceptable. I am now completely afraid to even touch the market. This time it was a fairly inexpensive item, and a loss of only a few million. I've got a fair number of purples and PvP IO's sitting around, and there is no way I'm placing any of them on the market under the current conditions.

You are correct, of course. There is absolutely no way to tell. I'd guess that 100 (or more) is much more likely than 10, however.

You'd have to be very patient. At any one time there are between 300-400 bids for the Glad +def IO at level 50. One sells maybe once every 3 or 4 days, always for 2 billion inf. So, if you were to put up a bid at 2 billion inf, you'd have a random chance out of the other few hundred people who also have 2 billion inf bids up to actually win the auction.

How long do you think it would take to get one with about a 0.5% chance of winning an auction every 3-4 days?

  20. In my opinion, AR should never be mixed with Devices, unless you either prefer concept/theme over performance, or you like a slower style of play. Assault Rifle when combined with Devices lacks any type of damage boosting power, such as Aim or Build-Up. On top of that, AR is mostly AOE damage and somewhat lacking in single target attacks. Unlike other blaster secondaries that usually have melee attacks, Devices has none, so does nothing to assist with AR's single target damage.

Yep.. There seems to be some significant interface lag at times. I believe that this was what caused my issue with stored recipes getting posted for sale, rather than the crafted enhancements I was attempting to sell.
