Quote:Ironically*, you could do exactly the same thing about Power Point...Agreed. At this late in the game, that ship has already sailed.
Rakeeb "could" do a 20 page Excel report that's set to the 14th decimal place, accompanied by a 6 hour Power Point presentation showing just how unbalanced the game is. That wouldn't necessarily mean it was a great, much less a good idea to "fix it", as they define it, at this point.
*Note to pedants: Use of this term is not guaranteed 100% correct. -
Quote:It's running from 2012-2013. 5 Episodes, Xmas special, rest of series in the new year....
Five episodes?
...
Hasn't it been like a year or better since the last batch? Are they Olympic torch running the episodes around?
The only show that I can think of that's taking more time is the next batch of Venture Brothers. After all, it's only been since November of 2010 when Operation PROM aired, and the new ones still won't be airing till spring of 2013.
There are a couple of reasons why episodes are spread out. One is cost. The BBC isn't generous with FX budgets. The other is so the cast can do different things, thereby avoiding typecasting. Both Gillian and Smith have appeared in a couple of high profile dramas. And the Moff has Sherlock to do as well of course. -
Er, sorry, I think I missed where you said what the point was...

It will be interesting to see what happens with Bio Armor.
In theory, Tankers will be able to complete most game content with Offensive Adaptation; but Brutes will have to make a lot more use of Defensive and Efficient Adaptations.
So this should, to some degree, level things out. -

Quote:...How good this is depends on how frequently it procs...+15% ToHit per stack on Reach for the Limit? 1/3rd the +Dmg but the full +ToHit of BU is surprising. That means with a Kismet and single ToHit slotted into the Passive you can FastSnipe every time Reach procs.
But it's unpredictability is a major drawback. Do snipes get an orange ring when Fast Snipe is available? -
Quote:Or: "Oh look, I've lost the argument, so I'm going to pretend it was always about something else."Do it, then. Let's see your analysis that demonstrates that the game is in balance, if not numerically than in relative proportion.
You claimed that you could STATISTICALLY PROVE that a drastic rebalancing of the game would INCREASE SUBSCRIPTIONS, flying in the face of every bit of experience and common sense of everyone else here.
NO ONE says CoH is perfectly balanced.
It's just that everyone else can see that trying to make it balanced would do far far more harm than good. -
It's gotta have some drawback to pay for the mez break. But this is no biggie - pair it with one of the snipeless primaries, or do it the old fashioned way and skip snipe.
-
Quote:"Under half endurance"? I'm pretty sure I could game this to keep myself there most of the time. The way it works is by applying mez protection to your character of exactly the magnitude of mez currently affecting you, plus one. It does give you mez resistance (which reduces duration of future mez) and mez strength (increases the duration of any mez you have), as well as a small to moderate heal. The power is powerful, but since it can only be used while you're CC'ed, under half health, or under half endurance, it needs to be potent when used in those limited conditions.
I don't suppose Storm Kick is the tanker version with the def buff?
Love the dominator set, but what about a natural primary to go with it? Trick Arrow could be the basis for a port. -
Yes, this is something that people tend not to realise: one movie < one novel. Or, to put it another way, how many hours worth of content was in a single novel: Game of Thrones? Most movies based on novels cut out a huge amount of content. Novelizations of movies add a lot of extra detail.
Putting that aside, The Hobbit is not really an adaptation of the novel. Peter Jackson doesn't like the novel, which is why he didn't want to do it in the first place. He is only doing because he gets to adapt lot of other bits of Tolkien that he does like (including a more "grown up" account of events of "The quest for Erebor"). He is more interested in following Gandalf than Bilbo.
In this case, the main bit he is doing could be called "The war against the Necromancer". To fit this into two movies you would end up with two full scale battles in the second movie (three if you count the battle against Smaug). This really wouldn't work. Far to much going on. If I'm right, the "extra content" he will be filming is a full scale version of the Battle of Dol Guldur, and it will go in the second movie, which will have the most non-novel content. -

Quote:This seems reasonable. And avoiding the second movie with two unrelated climatic battles would seem to be the main reason for going to three. The Council driving Sauron out of Mirkwood happens roughly at the same time as the Battle of the Five Armies, but could still be used as the climax of part 2, with the Battle of the Five Armies as the climax for part 3, which would let Bilbo's return home be the finale of the trilogy, meaning it'd help it to keep closerr to the lighter tone of the book, even if the Council vs Sauron battle is more important in the wider story.
Of course, if he wanted to make them more like a series of 6 movies rather than 2 trilogies, he could always rework the LotR into for the Hobbit instead.
The hints from the official site suggest that the first movie would end with the escape-by-barrel episode, and the second begin with arrival at Lake Town. Assuming that doesn't change, I would go for something like this. I will put material from the appendices and other writings italics, and material from the book in bold.
(Major spoilers)
Movie 1 (An Unexpected Journey)
Gandalf enters Dol Guldur and discovers Thrain and the map (possibly told in flashback).
Gandalf encounters Thorin and Co in Bree.
Bilbo is recruited. Tolkien wrote a scene, cut from RotK, with an important conversation between Gandalf and Thorin, after Bilbo had gone to bed on the night of the unexpected party.
Journey from Hobbiton to the Edge of Mirkwoood.
Gandalf meets with the White Council at Rhosgobel. (we know this location is in the movie.) Could be moved to beginning of Movie 2.
Misadventures in Mirkwood, leading to Barrel escape.
Movie 2 (The Desolation of Smaug)
Dwarves arrive at Laketown, Travel on to Misty Mountain
White council forces march towards Dol Guldur, worry about what would happen if Necromancer calls on Smaug.
Bilbo enters the Mountain and disturbs Smaug, who attacks Lake Town.
Death of Smaug.
Dol Guldur sacked, Necromancer flees, goblins of Gungabad roused.
Movie 3 (There and Back Again)
Aragorn encounters Arwen for the fist time. Leaves Rivendell. (moved a bit in time)
Political thriller, as Bilbo and Gandalf try to avert a war.
Battle of Five Armies.
The Return Journey
Gollum leaves the mountains in search of Baggins. -

Quote:I think in this case, it's how much time you spend showing what the original book didn't tell us, but we are later told also happened. As with the Lord of the Rings itself, the question is always how much time you choose to spend showing what the book tells us.
Or, retitle the series "RotK: The Appendices" for a more accurate description of the source material. -
Quote:Wrong.I disagree, but, neither you your I can prove this point at present.
It can be a pain, I agree, but no more so than a lot of other powers. Ironic, though, that nobody is suggesting changing Acid Arrow.
Read back this thread. Acid Arrow is exactly the power I singled out as in need of buffing. Why?
A defense debuff that requires a to-hit roll! What's the good of that?!
A Resistance debuff that is significantly lower than similar powers in Poison or Radiation.
And AoE that has all the drawbacks of AoE powers without being large enough to reliably hit multiple targets.
DoT which bring the drawbacks of a damage power without the befit of doing enough damage to hurt a rikti money.
Quote:But, if your contention is that it's form (trolly) is what makes it the weakest set,
Quote:So, Debuffs only work for the whole party, and thus are more prone to leverage if it's the number one debuff set? I'll make sure to let Cold, Rad, Time, Dark, Traps, etc know that one of them is best, and the rest can't do what they've always thought they could do well, as soon as we can agree on which one is the best. -
Quote:I think most people would consider 15% a very significant amount. And as for the veracity of the number, it's carefully researched. But the thing is, War Mace used to be on exactly the same damage as Ax, but it was buffed because the developers felt that it was underperforming. The only reason Ax wasn't changed at the same time was because the devs only had time to look at the one that was being ported to Brutes.I might call that slightly better, yes, if I agreed with this number. And if I took this number in a vacuum, and didn't account for the secondary effects. But as I don't....
It KD better than Stun? Is it 15% damage worth better than Stun? I don't think many people would think so.
But you haven't said anything to explain why you don't want it touched. Even if it wasn't under-performing, how would 15% more damage actually hurt you? I think I've explained how changes to EM would likely be detrimental to me personally.
Quote:Because if the set is fine in the end game, which I feel it is, then adding power to it early, that doesn't drop later will make it more powerful in the endgame, natch. -
Quote:That's not quite accurate. We asked about this a long time ago and i think the answer given is that we won't be getting that since the Spider powers are not actually direct claw/mace power ports and they want different weaponry attached.
The issue with Widow claws is they are animated, not static (blades shoot out, projectiles are fired etc). Thus, they fall under Power Customisation, not Weapons. Spines is the closest analogy.
Maces are a bit different, the main thing is the beam firing animation. The non-arachnos maces aren't designed to line up with the beams, so you can end up with beams coming from empty space. (some are also simply too short.)
Having said that, Arachnos Soldiers do get the Elemental mace, Celestial mace (which is just an axe held backwards), Celestial rifle and Mecha rifle. I think the policy on designing new weapons has changed to emphasise compatibility. -
Quote:No, it's handle is too short for the Katana two handed grip. That is why it went to Broadsword in the first place.Beam Rifle Weapon Models : Most of the guns have diffedrent hold positions - it's not a simple port it does require time to adjust the assets to fit the grip positions AND (IIRC) effect origin points.
Tsoo "Katana": Is this long enough? From what I recall, Katana needs swords with the longer hilt to accommodate all it's animations.
Quote:Rularuu Weapons: The VEAT weapons all tend to have unique needs/issues - no promise the could even port over mace easy. Then their's the "epic" (aka story) part of their name...
*I believe the procedure for new melee weapons is to make them for Titan Weapons first. This makes them more easily portable. -
Quote:Its a historical garment and modern garment, worn by historical and modern sikhs. While it may be a religious symbol, it's also a historical garment. Or a modern one. We do see religious figures wearing them, but in art (including the medium of comics), we see the turban used as a garment with no more indication of its meaning beyond "This guy is wearing a turban. He's probably a djinni, a friend of Sinbad, or a mystic of some sort."
If you are going to add turbans, you should add burqas too, so Muslims don't feel left out... -
I'm against using current recharge of the power in this calculation as well. This leads to all sorts of strange anomalies, such as powers that debuff recharge having no effect on part of you attack, and so on.
I think a standard amount of +recharge should be assumed (say +150%) for all powers at all times, and PPM rates calculated based upon that. -
The thing about the Turban is it's a religious symbol (of Sikhism). CoH tries to avoid religious symbols, although that prohibition has declined recently.
