Nah, Wildstar is a cool underdog. GW2 is crowd pleasing pap.

Quote:The Deadly Assassin novelization suggests that one reason the Master has run out of regenerations is he has used some to change his appearance as a disguise. That makes a certain sense. I'd always read that Doctor #1 had delayed his regeneration too long (implying there previously would have been a moment of control). And we saw the Master (Derek Jacobi) will himself to become a younger man, though he didn't seem to exert a lot of control on the decision.
(now I'm thinking it again: why couldn't they have kept Jacobi on longer as the Master?)

Quote:This is the Moff, we know from last season that changes in costume are significant.Just had a thought. What was the deal with that jacket the Doctor was wearing for the entire episode? In the preview for next week he's back to the tweed...so why the different jacket for this episode? Is it simply a matter of giving the Eleventh Doctor a slightly more varied wardrobe...or something else?
In this case, we have two. The 3/4 long tweedy coat, which is featured in a number of publicity stills, and the tux.
The coat, I think indicates that several hundred years have passed for the Doctor between this episode and the previous.
The tux, I think will be explained in future episodes. Hypothesis: he went back to the wedding to check Mel's story (eating fish fingers and custard whilst there to resist the poison.)
In the next epsiode, the Doctor will go back to his normal costume, so Amy and Rory don't twig that a lot of time (with River) has passed for him.
Remember they are travelling in opposite directions in time, so many of the Doctor's encounters with River that have been hinted at should have occurred before this first encounter with the "River" incarnation. And it must be a previous, Melody or Mel, incarnation, who shoots the Doctor in Utah, or someone else entirely. -
Quote:The data screen on the Tesseract showed this, when it scanned Mel:Time Lords are Time Lords because their species evolved next to a time vortex.
River is Time Lord-ish because she was conceived of two human parents who themselves were very time-affected and at the time in which they were traveling through the time vortex on the Tardis. That's why River has the third Time-DNA strand also.
I guess it also means you have a recipe for creating a new Time Lord race: The Tardis Honeymoon Suite.
Species: Time Lord -
Quote:Yup, they may be the same people for whom Jack was a "rogue time agent" for. That episode was also written by the Moff. Also, maybe it's just me, but the crew of the Tesseract(sp?) struck me as sort of similar to Jack Harkness in his first appearance. As if the robot body/ship wasn't actually their technology, since they needed special bracelets to avoid being eradicated by the antibodies, seemingly inexperienced with many of the systems, etc. while taking it upon themselves to "police" the timestream, whatever that means. All of which makes me think that they're somehow related to the Time Agency (and yes, likely the ones responsible for River's captivity). River and Jack are from the same century, after all, though I don't think it's ever made clear how far apart they are within that timeframe.
The question is: "Who is a screenwriter for the new Tintin movie?" -

Quote:***Spoilers***Man that was one of the best WHO episodes ever. I gotta give it a 8/10 only because River kinda wanted to save the DOCTOR after wanting to kill him so much kinda quickly.
She didn't "want" to kill the Doctor. She was programmed to kill the Doctor. As soon as the program was complete she was free to do whatever she wanted.
Did think Amy was a pit psychotic - she could easily have got the entire 400+ crew of the Tesseract killed. Okay, she was trying to save her daughter, but it's not as if they where evil.
Oh, and it appears to be quite widely known that River Song kills the Doctor. The Doctor makes the comment "I knew it would be you" as if he was being frightfully clever. It wouldn't be frightfully clever if it was something everyone knew. Ergo it isn't River Song who kills the Doctor (although she takes the rap). Who would River be most likely to take the rap for? Her mother.
A later episode is due to return to when Amy and Rory where kids - this may explain how "Mel" was inserted into their timeline. "don't care for weddings"! I don't believe that any more than the Doctor did.
Oh, and it's not clear how much time has past for the Doctor between AGMGTW and LKH. Could be a couple of hundred years. -
Quote:I see WP as being inspired more by movie heroes than comic books: Indiana Jones, John McClane, James Bond etc. Basically any hero without special powers who just won't die, despite ridiculous levels of punishment he is put through. So who in the comics other than Marvel's Gladiator would be assigned the Willpower powerset and what AT would they be?
I want to create a WP toon but thematically I'm having a tough time wrapping my mind around a non mutant/magic origin character that decides that bullets, energy blasts, baseball bats etc. don't hurt and thus isn't effected.
What do you guys think? -
Just like to point out that Conan started out as magazine short stories, not comics. (much like Sherlock Holmes)
The first Conan comic books didn't appear until the 1970s, more than 35 years after Robert E. Howard died. -
Quote:Batman dresses as a bat to inspire fear. And some people ARE afraid of bats. More importantly, he needs to be RECOGNISED. Intimidation is a major weapon in his arsenal, that wont work if people don't know who he is..
Plus, Batman is already dressing up as a bat. Say what you want about how functional his ears and cape are; he's still dressing up like a bat. Why is it so farfetched that a cat burglar with a flair for the dramatic (like Selina Kyle) might read about him and think, "hey, I kinda like that idea". From that point her choice of costume is obvious.
If you are a stealth based thief, you do not need to intimidate anyone, you certainly don't want to be recognised, and you don't want false ears and a tail that could flop about and trigger alarms.
This is what you take from a cat: claws for climbing, night vision, enhanced audio, agility, camouflage, possibly whiskers.
This is what you leave behind: large ears (not needed for electronically enhanced hearing, gets in the way), tail (if you aren't actually a cat, it hinders balance, not helps). -
Which is the problem.
With Heath Ledger's performance loonies have been done so well that anything else will look poor in comparison.
The point of the current cycle of Batman movies is to try and make it look like it could almost happen in the real world. Which was what made Heath's Joker so effective - you could believe such a person could really exist.
I'm sure Batman movies will eventually go back to Batman and Robin style daygo stupidity, but I like a more realistic approach. -
Quote:I would guess there will be a blurry press photograph showing a silhouette with the goggles up looking like cat ears. Leading the press to dub her Cat Woman. But she will never use the name herself. That's fine, and actually pretty close to what I was suggesting a couple of days ago about any ears she has being part of the tech she uses. Assuming she wears those goggles up like a headband for longer than like 2 seconds so that the audience has a decent chance to "get the reference" that's all that's really needed.
I prefer this kind of real world approach. There is no sane reason why she would dress as a cat, and I would rather have a completely sane Selena Kyle. Loonies have been done to death. -
Harry Mudd comes across a derelict ship. The Botany Bay. Finding it full of frozen genetic superhumans he sells them to the Borg. The borg assimilate Kahn and his followers, creating a new race of super-borg, who take over the collective. The super-borg steel the genesis device and set out to use it on Earth. Kirk shouts "Borgggggggggggg-Kaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahn".
Yes, I can write like JJ Abrams! -
Quote:Indeed. As first used in Blake's Seven and Dr Who - Key to Time, and further developed in Babylon 5.The trick to making a single arc season work i that not every single episode of the season should focus on the arc. Mention it perhaps and show that things might be happening with it yes. Actually spend each and every episode focused on the arc? No.
At least not unless you have plotted out each episode carefully so that you can make certain they don't drag.
Independent episodes with a series long linking story. -
Assuming the Moff had a hand in the trailer, then River = EPL (Kovarian) would be exactly what he wants you to think, and therefore is a bluff.
Haven't you figured it out yet?
(oh, and Kovarian and River are not the only people wearing that eyepatch in the trailer, although I can't take the credit for spotting the others. Ether the eyepatch itself is important, or the BBC cuts are even worse than I thought...) -
Quote:What about, if they made it so that if you have Titan+Shield, your shield is your weapon? Can not use w/ Sheild defense?
Because wouldn't you have to have a whole second set of animations for that pairing?
Or.... shiiii... would you be constantly putting away and drawing the new thing? Ugh
Would seem like an opportunity to add in Shield Offence to me. -
Thier are a few interesting things I noticed about the logo. The prominant omega was the most obvious, but it also seemed to have a roman numeral II superimposed (or possibly an 11).
Omega 2?
O2? The Millenium dome is thier base?
Omega 11 = Doctor 11
I like the idea that Peter Davidson could play Omega.
The logo also incorporated wings underneth - is this an attempt to connect the clerics to UNIT?
Oh, and how about this idea: Doctor and River have a child. That child has a daughter called Susan. Susan inherits her gran's tendancy to meet the Doctor in reverse order.
Oh, and what if the Moff is going to revive the idea from the TV movie that the Doctor is part human? -
Interview on BBC website pretty much confirms River is not the Doctor's Mommy "unless Steve changes his mind".
-
Quote:Amy is actually the daughter of River and the Doctor. Thus she has part timelord DNA to pass on. Which would make her her own grandmother. And it will turn out that River is Amy's mother, too.
Why do you think Amy was at the heart of the Time fracture?
Time fractured as a result of paradox overload.
I'm suprised no-one has commented on the logo of the cleric guys yet - based around the last letter of the greek alphabet. -
Quote:It was clearly between Amy telling the Doc "I'm pregnent" at the end of Ep 1 and her first encounter with Eyepatch in Arkham Asylum.Totally wasn't expecting that at the end. Though that does open another question.
SPOILERS
How long exactly has Amy been in that room with Eyepatch checking up on her? Many people would probably say that the Silence took her there but we saw Amy have an encounter with the woman just before the Silence kidnapped her.
Most likely immeditely after the end of episode 1. I wouldn't be surprised if a future episode takes place in the 3 months between 1 and 2.
As for who, the whole flesh thing is Silence modus operandi: Get the parasatised organism to develop the technology that you need. They appear to have the time travel technology that would be required, to travel into the future to get the flesh, then back to C1960, perhaps as a result of previously having parasatised Galifrey.
We know how the Doctor is going to survive being killed now, anyway. Always back up your hard drive. -
Quote:I think it was Matt Smith ("call me Smith" - LOL) doing an impersonation.Decent episode. Great ending.
Also: "Reverse the jelly baby of the neutron flow"
Also, also: Did I hear right? When he said "would you like a jelly baby?" were they dubbing in Tom Baker's voice from the old series?
Quote:I didn't notice that it ever got scary. When did that supposedly happen? -
-
I thought this was an exeptionally weak episode. Aside from the obvious homages to PotC, Treasure Island and Master and Commander, it was derivative of Star Trek: Voyager ("please state the nature of the medical emergency") and earlier episodes The Empty Child (alien meditech gone wrong) and The Stones of Blood (spaceship in same location but parallel dimenstion).
And, given that he had seen it all before, the Doctor was unusually slow in figuring it all out...
Oh yeah, and "OMG they killed Rory!" -
Quote:On Rory-the-Auton:"You're not going to kill the only person that can answer your questions, are you?"
"Doctor! They're Americans!"
"Oh! Right! Sorry! Please don't shoot!"
Like sometimes Amy is pregnant and sometimes she isn't?
I'm pretty sure Rory is human after the universe reboot, because that's how Amy remembers him, just with Auton-Rory's memories.
Huh. Technically, Rory is older than the Doctor.

As someone would say:
**** SPOILERS ****
You where warned: There is a picture in the Radio times from episode 7, showing Rory in full roman gear with some familar enemies. The caption refers to "the lone centurion". -
