Quote:They tried this during a closed beta. It pretty much messed up the balance of defensive powersets, and was quickly reversed.I think heal self need to be a teir 1 power in the medicine pool. ALot of people already only stick with the same 4-5 pools (speed, leadership, fightan and flight/jump/stealth) that making you basically waste a power pick in the medicine pool to get the power you actually want just make people less likely to take it.
What do you think? -

Quote:This is all true.But Absorb+Defense+Resistanece >> Absorb+Defense.
1% Def = 2% Res has been glaringly wrong for years. Not least of which because all ATs have the same (effective) defense cap, but most ATs have lower resistance caps.
However, Bio Armor has been stated to be an Absorb+Res+Regen. NO Def. If the amount of absorb is balanced about the rest of the set, then Bio Armor will gain abnormal benefit from +Def powers (Broadsword, Katana, Staff, TW, tanker MA, Weave). To the extent that unless Absorb is only small all other choices would be gimped.
Hence, the needs A LOT OF TESTING before release. NOW with insufficient testing would be bad. -
Not as much as you might think. Cold domination already has +max HP, and in the same way, Absorb can be treated as +res (all), which you can get from Sonic.
-
"Absorb" has significant balance implications that really need to be worked through thoroughly. If the post earlier in the thread is correct, absorb+defence >> absorb+resistance. This is a further nail in the coffin of 1% def = 2% res that has been used to balance defensive sets for years,

Quote:This. Battleship was relatively more successful in Europe, where it was released before Avengers.I don't think the movie itself will suck, it is just that it will suck compared to the Avengers and not pull in the money that they are hoping it will pull in, which in turn will hurt merchandising sales, etc. etc.
Had Battleship been delayed it may have done a bit better but then again...... -
One thought. We have a new mechanic coming: absorb. This will presumably have a cap. There is no reason why the cap shouldn't be much higher for tankers than it is for brutes and scrappers. And no nerfs required.
Of course, given that the devs missed a trick with Hybrid, I don't have much hope that they will see the potential here. -
Quote:Or maybe Loki is just nothing like as smart as he thinks he is....For those of you who thought the plot of Avengers was a little thin, you're missing Loki's long game. Here's a description of the actual plot of the Avengers, as planned by the Master of Trickery. Makes sense to me.

Gimmick Aura [toggle] hostile targets take minor psi dot when within 10' of the player. In addition, they have a 5% chance of being granted the effect Gimmicked which does nothing on it's own..
Gimicky Burst [pbaoe click] does moderate cold damage. In addition, if the target is affected by Gimmicked they are turned into a fluffy kitten. -
Quote:Yeah, I'm sure that's what I meant.I don't think he means "defense" as in the gameplay function, and more "defense" as in "protection from harm" I.e. All the Melee Secondaries/Tanker Primaries.
Doesn't make any difference, you still have to find some way to make the set different from the existing sets, whether it be appearance or game-play (preferably both). Which means you will eventually need "gimmicks".
Is "absorb" a gimmick?
As for apperance of Bio Armor, I can see two ways to go, but hopefully we will get both as an option.
For example, lets consider the S/L shield (Hardened Carapace?). This could be spine and ribs that come out of the body (using a similar method as Rock Armor) (as in the above drawing, or the armor worn by vaz reapers). But you would probably want a less "meaty" version as well. Alblative carapace could cover the body with tendrils (similar to Hoarfrost FX, or neo-Shivans), which could be coloured red for veins or green for plants (or whatever). and so on. -
Quote:This.It's slathered-on, after-the-fact faux 3D.
There's no such thing as "doing it right".
What film makers really don't seem to have grasped yet is a 3D movie is not a 2D movie in 3D. The way you compose your shots needs to be different, camera focus during action sequences, lighting levels, use of close ups, pretty much your whole cinematography needs to be adjusted.
But I would say pulling it back is more down to now simply not being a good time to release an action movie. -
Quote:So sure, are we?Now I know that the Devs don't like to work on old content and no plans of us changing the colors to power pool, ancillary, patron power pools.
Quote:So my question is this. Will we ever see more ancillary options across the archetypes. Like mind ancillary for blaster or electric for controllers. Think this would give players a bit more options for there characters. -
Quote:Hmm, I don't know. Many prefer defense sets with minimal FX and just use the costume creator for appearance. In which case a new set will need gimmicks to set it apart.I just hope they don't take forever to release more Melee Defense Sets. And hope they don't go the route of "must have gimmicks!"
I'd just like to see more defense sets with various styles.
"FX heavy" could itself be considered a gimmick by some. -

Quote:I mentioned WoW because it's the most well known current use of Orcs. The ACTUAL legal battle was over the inclusion of orcs in Dungeons and Dragons, in the late 70's. They where made to remove "Hobbit" because that was an original creation, but could keep orc, because Tolkien had dug up an actual but disused name for a similar creature. But the outcome was, orcs could be used by anyone. Before Tolkien revived it?
Before?
Are you serious?
You do realize Tolkien published his books back in 1954 right? And Dungeons and Dragon was using orcs since 1974.
Blizzard Entertainment didn't exist as a company until the 1990's, and it's Warcraft series was released in 1994.
An example might be if you called your character [something] Goblin. So long as the costume wasn't too similar to a comic book character (or movie version), you should be fine.
But remember, it's the GMs decision, not a legal one. If the GM decides Green Orc isn't permissible, then it isn't permissible, even though it's legally fine.
I have an alt called Chiroptera Lass, who might get genericed if I played her more, but more because of the costume than the name. -
Quote:Well, no, not when they are bloomin obvious direct copies. Get an imagination already. You can keep a copyrighted name until you are caught by a GM or reported by a jerk (er i mean fellow player). Sorry to hear about all your nerfed names - I really do hate that
Quote:- but maybe try adding some flavour to them. Instead of just "Sentinel" - maybe "Dark Sentinel" or "Red Sentinel" or "Happy Lucky Sentinel 97"
The developers talked about this. Your character is most likely to be genericed if:
1) They are a well known superhero.
2) Their costume and powers are also copied.
3) A well known RL person.
And less likely to get genericed if:
1) They are very obscure;
2) Not from superhero media;
3) Have completely different costume and powers.
As already pointed out, a name from mythology is not copywrited. The only reason WoW can have orcs is because it was a very obscure alternative name for an ogre before Tolkien revived it. -
Staff/EA stalker.
Can scrap like an old school scrapper, and do sneeky stuff too. -
Novels are a completely different media.
If you want other media straight adaptations of comic stories, the BBC did audio plays of The Death of Superman, and Knightfall. I would imagine they would be available for download somewhere (I had the Superman one on audio cassette - it melted)

Like pink sharks, there is no "Official" information, and therefore we aren't allowed to talk about it here. I have heard of things called internet search engines though...

Quote:Because all NCSoft's great new hopes bombed.I don't buy that. This game is old enough that the current subscriber rate at the time of Freedom's launch was little more than free money. It survived for a long time on life support (the surviving 15) enough to convince NCSoft to buy the IP, put money into it, and make Paragon Studios a growing business platform.
Quote:I really dislike how some folks try to make it look like this game is dead when it continually surpasses it's newer, shinier, competitors. -
London has plenty of water. I keep expecting Swamp Thing to emerge from my lawn. What is doesn't have is anything to put it in, since they sold of nearly all the reservoirs for housing in the 1980s.

The only comic I read continuously through my youth was Doctor Who weekly/monthly/magazine, which many of you will know is a Marvel publication. So I "got into it" by reading something based on a favorite TV show.
I did pick up the occasional other comics (2000AD and Superman) but it wasn't until I got to university that I really had access to a wide range of comics.
Oh yeah, and of course, Asterix the Gaul, who is indubitably a superhero. -
Obviously, if you want to hate you are going to hate (because you wanted a bit earlier, rather than all at once), even when pool customisation comes in including patron pools in issue 24.
Here is a clue: BABs isn't here any more. Freedom = you want pink sharks? You can have pink sharks.
