  1. How about "Vindicators is all about second chances, but first you gotta lose the goatee and pony tail"?
  2. I do have a level 50 fire/kin corr, and I love her. ^_^ I tend to like more self-contained characters, even if I team a lot, so the character that can obliterate everything on their own is what I favor. But with a corr I can play support and still solo very well when on my own, and there's nothing quite like being essentially a self-buffing fire blaster.
  3. Meh. I build my scrappers and brutes to tank. There are few situations where the fact that a tank has more hit points and guantlet actually makes a difference -- iTrials mostly. For basic builds, a tank is the most survivable, but for a good high-end build the difference between a tank and a brute in terms of survivability is fairy small.

I ran an old ambush farm yesterday on my shield scrapper Sparks Fly, and when you're surrounded by level 53 enemies that can debuff your defense, and a lot of them are bosses that are going to hit you hard regardless, THEN you start to notice that you're not playing a tank. But I still didn't die. ^_^

This. More speed does not make you go down the slopes faster, really. Jumping (falling) speed does.
  5. That may be true at level 20. At level 20, the perfect AT is probably a willpower scrapper.

But a fully tricked out level 50 brute is a beautiful thing to behold. ^_^
  6. I figure I'd start this thread before Dugfromtheearth does.

    Simply put:

    1. I'm a fan of melee. I like to be surrounded by enemies, I like to punch the AV in the face. Scrappers used to be my favorite AT.

    2. All of my builds are high-end these days. I can afford to build my top toons however I want, just takes a little more time for the expensive builds. Top-end scrappers and top-end brutes are quite similar, but I've recently decided that the brute wins out for crowd control (taunt) and being even more survivable. So now Brutes are my favorite AT.

That doesn't mean I don't enjoy playing other ATs. I'm working on a new Widow right now in fact. Widows are great fun to play, a support toon that plays like a scrapper with less hit points (and no real aggro control). I really enjoy the 50 Widow I already have, which is why I decided to make a second one.

So, in conclusion... yeah, I think Widows are the perfect AT. This week.
  7. I know not everyone likes the consignment system vs. an auction system, but I like it. It has several advantages -- for the patient, I can bid at the price I want to pay and eventually get it (unless I'm being totally unreasonable on a popular item). I can also sell at the price I want, and with patience it will eventually sell. And for the impatient, I don't have to wait for an auction to end if I want it NOW and I have the money.
  8. There are more guys out there with dark glasses and pointy goatees though. We need to round them up before they turn on us!
  9. On a somewhat related note, I just noticed yesterday that I'd assumed leadership of a Villain Group.

This is "Villain Force - Rho Ruffians", a villain division of Hero Force (there are only two redside divisions total). I'm a division leader or Hero Force - Alpha Assault already, so it's not like a random newbie taking over the group.

Now, redside doesn't get played that much, but there are a handful of people who still log in to their VF characters, while I only log in one a week normally. It was pretty much blind luck that I wound up as leader. But in the past I'd been frustrated that the Rho Ruffians base was so small and basic. It had four teleporters in two rooms, a med bay, three salvage storage units, one IO storage unit, an invention crafting table and vault door, one enhancement storage unit, an ouro crystal, plus enough power and control to run it all. That was just about it -- all on one of the smallest plots available. It was functional yet exceptionally small, and yet we had over 8 million prestige unspent.

    So... I spent it.

We now have a larger teleport room with an extra port to Pocket D, a larger med bay, a much larger power supply in a huge room, a much larger workroom with many more storage bins and a tier III empowerment station, larger computer room, a very large decorative room that I don't even know what to do with yet, and a lot more room to build on one of the largest plots available. I kept the original design and color scheme, I left the one small "meeting room" alone, I didn't change the entrance at all -- I tried to match the original design plan even though it's pretty basic -- and I made sure that both the entrance, the teleporters, and the enhancement storage were all within one room of the med bay. Hopefully nobody can complain. ^_^ And there's a million prestige left to build with, if I'm so inclined! (Which... given how little work I normally do on the other bases I'm in charge of... I probably won't be.)

Not sure when or if the previous leader will be back though. The VGs get so little attention, I'm not sure that the previous leader was the official leader either, or *who* should be in charge of them anymore.

One of the other things that had annoyed me was that the IO storage bin was set to leaders only, which is the default setting. That's fine if you're using it to keep valuable IOs that you don't want any random person to take and sell for their own profit, I have one bin set aside in Alpha Assault for that purpose. But this was the *only* bin in the base, and it was being used for *nothing*. It literally had four very generic IOs in it -- a cheap Gaussian's, a couple of Adjusted Targeting -- that I know had been there since last August at least. That's when I used the base to craft a couple of random drops, and then found that I wasn't even allowed to drop them in the bin for someone else to use. I mean, being cautious is one thing, but if you have nothing for people to steal and aren't using the storage bin for anything at all, what good does it do to set the permissions so high? So now that I'm in charge, all bins but one are usable by everyone. ^_^
  10. ...you simply can't trust a man with dark glasses and a pointy goatee.

I mean, everyone knows that. So why weren't these guys locked up already? Dark glasses? Goatee? Yeah, throw him in the zig! He's bad news!
  11. The SSA stories cater to "you versus big enemies" kind of encounters.
  12. I have about 78 characters.

    On Virtue.

Many of my other free slots on other servers are filled too.

I don't think this thread was meant to be taken seriously.

    Just a thought.

On another note: how is it that the most powerful villains in the world are still thwarted by elevators? I suspect that "Elevator Man" is truly the most powerful of heroes.

Another thing I wonder about... how do some of these invention recipes work? Like, you take a piece of armor with runes etched on it, and you dip it in a simple chemical, and... a revolver appears? You combine fire that cannot be put out with ice that cannot be melted, a hydraulic piston, and a theory about chaos and... viola, you have a jetpack? How? A small key for winding clockwork, a lucky charm, and some kind of ancient artifact when combined in the right way make... insect wings? Because unless the ancient artifact actually happens to be "ancient insect wings that I'm hoping I can wind up with this key I found if I'm lucky enough" then I'm not sure how that works out.
  14. I both have 2 accounts and my own SG, I'm also now in charge of what's left of one of the divisions of Hero Force... so I do have to remember to log in my HF toons. Which is not hard since I play nearly every day and I placed some of my favorite toons in that division. But before that, the leadership had indeed passed to another member at random, and that's happened to other divisions as well. So far no major issues have arisen because of that though.

Mostly if/when leadership of a division has passed, it's been to a long time member who logs in regularly. We hardly have any other kind of members anymore.
  15. So if I understand this right, a VIP has access to Praetoria but a Premium w/o GR does not?

But a VIP w/o GR can't create a Praetorian, correct?

Because otherwise you'd have a problem I think... create a Praetorian, then drop to Premium.
  16. Very cool of you to come here and answer people's questions about the review though, kudos.
  17. I hadn't even noticed that the Player Events section was removed, and now I'm kind of sad that it's gone.

The sound effects for StJ are excellent in my opinion. Not like Titan Weapons, where they are really underwhelming, and not like the sound effects for Kinetic Melee, which really have prevented me from playing a character with that set.
  19. Some more details about changing alignment:

Since you get tips from enemies level 20 or higher, I like to head to Sharkhead Isles. Kill anything that moves. Note that it can take a surprisingly long time for tips to drop, some days -- it's random, but bosses will drop tips much more often than minions, so kill any boss you see.

After you complete your five tip missions, there is a 20 hour cooldown before you can run any more (at least, before you can get any more tips yourself or before you can get credit for running anyone else's). There are five buttons that fill in when you complete tip missions (on the tip mission tab under contacts), and they will say something like "You have been remembered for this deed for five hours" when you mouse over one. When it's been 20 hours it will say "you are no longer remembered for this deed". That's when you know you can find new tips to run.

A morality mission should drop once you've completed 10 rogue missions (there are separate progress bars that will show you how many of these you've completed, even if it's been 3 weeks or whatever since you last played the character). You get these the same way as tip missions, by killing level 20+ enemies, bosses preferred. At the end of a morality mission you can change your alignment, and I don't really need to explain that part since there are a lot of warnings and "are you really sure?" type messages.

The tip missions that you get Villain-side are only: Villain, or Rogue. If you are a Vigilante hunting Villain-side, then you will only get tips with Villain as an option. The tip missions you get Hero-side are only: Hero, or Vigilante. If you are a rogue hunting hero-side then you will only get tips with Hero as an option.

So if you want to go from Villain to Hero, you have to run 10 tips v-side where you pick the Rogue option, then your morality mission, and then you have to move hero-side and run 10 more hero tips and the hero morality mission. 4 days minimum.

Rogues can go hero-side via Pocket D, Rikti War Zone, or via the super sekrit smuggler submarine in Sharkhead Isle, that leads to a matching submarine in Independence Port. Also through Midnighters.

When you move from one side to the other, you will lose all your current missions for the side you're leaving. You'll get a warning about this EVERY time you leave a co-op zone, even if you've been playing hero-side for 9 months and are only exiting to hero-side again. It's a bit annoying. Also, rogues/vigilantes can't have or use villain or hero merits, so you will lose those when changing alignment if you haven't used them. But your regular merits aren't affected.

If you're a Rogue playing hero-side, or a Vigilante playing villain-side, don't use an ouro portal. It will takes rogues to the villain ouroboros and vigilantes to the hero ouroboros.

That's one of those misspellings that has it's own internal logic... in fact, there ought to be a word for that, and there is!

    eggcorn:

    n. An idiosyncratic but semantically motivated substitution of a word or phrase for a word or words that sound identical, or nearly so, at least in the dialect the speaker uses.

"The key to an eggcorn is that it is a mis-hearing by a native speaker that has its own internal logic.”

As in "learning curb" for "learning curve".

  23. If you click on a player's name (or on them I think) there should be an option to add notes. Notes are viewable only by you, so it's a way to tell yourself whether you liked playing with this character or not. You can rank them 1-5 stars, and then if you go into options you can set it so that you view a player's rating always, or when you mouse over them, or whatever. I like to set that to always so I don't miss that I've rated someone or not -- usually it's just a way for me to recognize when my friends are on an unfamiliar alt.
