Quote:It seems to be a case of paranoid butt coverage on the part NCsofts legal dept. It's kinda understandable after the hassle they went though with Marvel.Oink, oink. I was half-ready to post the list myself to show how dumb some of the filtered names are.
Like the one that brought this mess to my attention: A friend's arc was invalidated due to a character with "Victor" in the name.
Yes, that's right, now they're even banning common names used by Marvel characters.
Whilst it is a possibility, I sincerely doubt that Marvel or DC would pursue legal action due to a custom character that shares a common name with one of its own. If that custom character bore a similar likeness to one of Marvel's or DC's characters with said name then there would be a case.
It has been pointed out in this thread that certain names are trademarked (not copyrighted) by various companies, as is the case with Marvel and Thor. However the fact that Marvel isn't the only company using Thor as a super hero (DC has their own version) leaves me pondering. The use of common/historical/mythological names or those otherwise in the public domain should not be restricted AFAIC.
In a perfect world we would be able to use names like Thor/Napoleon/Victor without issue. Only blatantly infringing names (i.e. D0ct0r D00m etc) and likenesses would be penalised. However due to the nature of this game, enforcing likeness infringement is a case of player and GM vigilance. Whilst this works in the case of player toons, the Devs, GMs and players can't be expected to go through every custom mob in every MA arc. It just isn't feasible.
Sadly this list of ever increasing absurdity is what we're stuck with. I'd recommend removing the common words and names from that list. If a copyright/trademark holder takes umbrage with particular a word/name, then add it. -
What began as a simple screenie evolved into a photoshop odyssey...

All I wanted to ask was wether any of the devs had heard my CoX inspired orchestrations, and if so, did they enjoy them.
-
I will likely stay on Union. Somebody has to stay to welcome any new arrivals.
-
When the Meet and Greet was announced I was quite excited as it was taking place on Union so I didn't have to mess around setting up Test Server access. I was looking forward to meeting the devs and had a few questions for them.
Unfortunately the day darkened for me. It turned out it was to be my dog, Bonnie's last day. She was 16 years old. Her health had been deteriorating for months. Her liver was failing, her front legs were severely arthritic and her back legs had atrophied to the point where she could no longer walk. Watching her try to move was torture for us, knowing that she was in severe pain.
We spent the day giving her as much love as we could, to make sure her last day was a happy one. We said our goodbyes before taking her to the vet for the final time. She was smiling as she slipped away. I will miss her deeply.
The 7 Year celebrations seem trivial now in light of my grief. But I had hoped to enjoy a tiny ray of light on this dark day. By the time I logged into the game at 7:30pm BST, Pocket D was full.
I missed the party, but I miss my dog far more. -
Quote:This is why I despise current copyright legislation and the litigious copyright holders who use/abuse it.It's been pointed out before that litigation has a wonderful way of making one over-react to the merest hint of copyright violation. This is not a matter of devs being stupid, it's a matter of CYA in legal matters; even if it's fairly cut and dried, just getting it dragged into court can be enough to bankrupt you.

Hold on a strawberry flavoured minute. The name 'Thor' is public domain. It's the name of a mythological character and cannot be copyrighted.
Just because Marvel has a character based on said mythological character does not mean that Marvel own full rights to it. IIRC Marvel only have a copyright on their versions appearance and concepts they've added.
Any names, locations and concepts from mythology are fair game for anyone to use. This should be reflected in the filter. -
I know that, but it has the same rhythm as the original.
Not before seeing Cole turn to Marauder and ask "Who is this imbecile?" -

GMs and Rikti/Zombie invasion mobs are scaled to your combat level. So even if you are Alpha shifted they will still con the same.
I discovered this for myself when a zombie invasion took place in a rather deserted Grandville. Judgement on zombies is fun -
Running a Lambda the other day. I'm usually on the team that does the labs, this time however, I was on the warehouse team. So, I figured "Hey-ho, I get Pacification 'nades". All goes well and we clear the warehouse, so we head down to the labs to help the other team.
During the fight with Marauder, when the time comes to pacify him I click the little icon in my tray only to see 'Invalid Target' pop up. I quickly check the power and it turns out I was carrying an Acid 'nade. Of course during the time I was faffing about with my power tray I failed to notice the big red words on my screen NOVA FIST. Suffice to say I was rezzing at the hospital shortly after. -

In an attempt to get back on topic somewhat, I do agree with the OPs suggestion of a staging ground before the main assault. It would give the league and league leaders time to prepare. It would be especially helpful to players new to the trials/raids (whatever you want to call them) so that they understand what to expect and what roles they might play. It can be daunting for a first time player on these things if they have no clue what to do.

Could've been a beard you were seeing. Although, not having the 51 month vet, I don't know if thats possible.

Street Fighter ("Of course!!")
Mortal Kombat (although the sequel is offensively atrocious)
Flash Gordon
TF: Revenge of the Fallen (I know, it's dire, but it IS Transformers ...just)
Masters of the Universe -
I was toying around with ideas for MM pet customisation. Mainly thinking of alternate pet models, perhaps a bit of colour customisation. So these are a few I came up with.
Necro:
Zombies (default), Mummies, Skeletons (or slightly more rotten zombies, as the vomit attack has to come from somewhere)
Mercs:
Military (default), Agents.
Ninjas:
Ninjas (default), Sentai (for heroic MMs)
Robots:
Robots (default), Androids (humanoid robots akin to Cylons or Praetorian clockwork), Cyborgs (Terminator style endoskeletal bots).
Thugs:
Thugs (default), Bouncers (in suits), Clowns(?)
Demons:
Demons (default), Demon variants, Ghosts, Incorporeal essences (balls of fluff).
Thugs, Mercs and Ninjas could even have female versions of certain models.
What do you think? Any other ideas? -
I'm having exactly the same issue with my game. The horizontal lines mark the borders of shadow LOD. I've tried every permutation of the shadow and occlusion settings and they just won't go away.
Incidentally I'm running a similar setup to the OP: Windows XP SP3, Radeon HD 4650 1Gb. Latest graphics drivers, updated today. -

I took diamagnetic on my DM/DA brute. Its -tohit stacks with Dark's native -tohit rather nicely. That being said I don't have exact numbers.

Wha...? No! Seriously this has knocked me for six. 63... it seems so young, and yet it isn't, not really. I can't say any more right now. It needs to sink in.

MMs as an archetype are fine. I have four of the little blighters. However I will agree that certain primaries do need dev attention. Mercs in particular. Bizarre pet AI, horrid recharge on pet powers, highly resisted damage type, and Serum is utterly atrocious.
