Works for me. I never really got much beyond the novels and the main sourcebook when I was spending a lot of money on pen and paper RPGs. At the time I was more into Dark Sun and 2e D&D and the ease at which your character could die in Shadowrun at the time really kept me from getting into the characters much.

Quote:Well, to be fair, it is finally a way for a snipe attack to be useful outside of an opening shot.Is it just me who finds it odd that the power with the most chance to spread Disintegration is an interruptible snipe power? I don't know about others, but typically if I'm using a snipe, I'm soloing, and that's the first attack I make (other than aim/build up or such) so there'd be no Disintergration on them to spread, and even if I used that first, I'd have to be sniping while under fire.
The highest chance for disintegration spread on that attack just seems a bit of a pointless addition. -

Going into them James Earl Jones as well. He may not have been a huge name, but he'd into acting for film and TV since '63. Heck, he was in Dr. Strangelove for crying out loud (one of the bomber crew).

The first thing that came to mind for me was the book Rainbow's End to be honest. There's been a lot of these new crazy tech advances lately that remind me of it to be honest.

So ... It's not exaclty the best cast (I don't know if much starring Robert Urich counts as 'best cast') but The Ice Pirates has some head-scratchers.
On the one hand you have space herpes, then on the other hand you have Ron Perlman, John Carradine and oddest of all Anjelica Huston.
To be fair, I rather like the movie, but that's part nostalgia and part being so bad it's entertaining. -
I was more shaking my head at how for a while, every time I would check it seemed that the magnitude of the quake was being inflated. The local radio station was reporting a 5.8 a couple minutes after the quake, then a while later when I checked the internet it seemed everywhere was claiming 5.9 (though I think they corrected later) and then when I went out again the afternoon radio idiots were talking about it being a 6.0. I was actually surprised I didn't hear someone try and tell me we had a 6.3 by the end of the day.

Quote:Teslaaaaa!!!!!!My first thought was "well somebody got an earthquake machine working".
Ahhhh, the claims that man made. -
Quote:Yea, the one earlier today was about 5-6 miles from a reactor that was juuuust rated to withstand an earthquake of that magnitude.Maybe a relatively small event, but a wake up call since there are nuclear reactors all over the place too.
Incidentally, I missed the earlier big quake but I managed to feel the 4.2 aftershock we just had. -
Quote:In related news (in case anyone was curious) the local reactors were apparently automatically taken offline automatically. On the other hand there's also this news article. Apparently the 'local' nuclear reactor was only designed to withstand a 5.9-6.1 earthquake.

Quote:Yea, and relatively speaking we're fairly close to things. I'm sure there's damage somewhere though. There always is.I'm hearing from folks near Charlottesville that plaster was falling from ceilings and that in one case a roof collapsed on a dilapidated building, but that's about it.
On the other hand there's also this news article. Apparently the 'local' nuclear reactor was only designed to withstand a 5.9-6.1 earthquake. The highest we normally have around here is in the 4-5 range so I'm guessing that seemed like a high-end estimate but given we just had a 5.9 it seems a little close for comfort. -
Well, I imagine a decent chunk of damage was done, but for what it's worth here in Charlottesville (which is about as far away from the epicenter as Richmond) there doesn't appear to be much damage done. Of course it's too early to say that with any certainty, but the microburst that hit us the other weekend did more damage to my neighborhood than the quake did.

Quote:I was about 30 miles away (West down 64 from the event) driving in my car(with only mediocre shocks) and felt nothing
Noticed by people driving motor cars. -

Quote:See, I disagree that all 'gun-fu' has to look the same. I agree that there are some fairly iconic 'pistol' style attacks that largely work, though I think they're the ones that don't fit the 'gun-fu' style the most. The animations for our game's [pistols] or [executioner's shot] for example. The Wildstar gameplay video had an attack animation that looked very similar to [dual wield] though which never struck me as very iconic of a move.it's because the animations are rooted and as such gun play almost will always take on a gun-fu look because people think t looks cool and it's really the only way to diferentiate powers like that.
I don't really think they're specifically copying Dual Pistols animations, I mostly just think it's entertaining.
Quote:There seems to be no character generation in this game. It looks like you choose one of the pre-existing characters and play as that.
Also in an interview I saw where they were talking about the Player Path thing there was mention of one path that would offer 'social' quests to players (for folks who preferred interaction with other players versus exploration or combat) so the game will at least have some sort of multiplayer aspect. I would imagine, given the current trends, that the game is more likely to be heavily phased as opposed to heavily instanced. All in all though it's really entirely too early to really be doing much more than making educated guesses. -
That was indeed fantastic. Thank you.
It was a little bit difficult to make out the lyrics cleanly at times, but I'll let that pass. -
Quote:Believe it or not, but there are fault lines in the area. We get a decent number of small quakes around here, but most people ignore them since they usually just feel like someone's doing some construction nearby or something like that.Yep, that was weird! I was wondering what the hell it was, figuring surely it couldn't be a quake! But, the map says it was real! Anyone in the DC/Richmond area? Must have been nasty over there... I can't imagine many buildings are designed to resist quakes in those parts!
Something readily identifiable as an earthquake is quite odd though. -
Quote:Its epicenter was relatively near me here in Charlottesville. It happened while I was driving and I missed it, but I've been talking to some of my neighbors and family (who largely live in the Centeral VA area) and they all felt it.Anyone else just feel the quake that hit the east coast? Epicenter was in VA, something around 5.8. Felt it up here in NYC.
I know this is standard fare for you West Coast folks, but very unusual here.
BTW, hope everyone is okay nearer to the epicenter down south. -
Soooo ... does anyone else think that the gunplay animation in the gameplay clip looks a little bit like the pistols animations in CoH or am I just imagining things?
Other than that I have to say that the teaser trailer looked fantastic (Blur animation studios did a fantastic job on something yet again), and that I am rather interested in the whole 'Player Path' thing they have going on. -
Quote:Ok, so I'll start off by saying I'm not really a fan of a dragon MM either. Mostly because when I think of henchmen ... I really don't think 'dragon'. It seems an extremely poor fit for the AT's shtick.6Also, I will note that Mythology and the Supernatural are NOT what I mean when I say Fantasy. Fantasy is, to me, the classic D&D-styled adventure: dungeons, monsters, intrepid warriors.
That said. You do realize that D&D pretty much just pulled a ton of stuff from myth right? They pulled dragons straight out of myth and folklore right along with vampires, werewolves, zombies, mummies, elves, dwarves, trolls, and well ... a good chunk of 'old school' D&D stuff. It's fine not liking fantasy, but the way you said it struck me as odd that's all. -

They're both still around, and Positron seems to have the reigns back. I'm not sure when that exactly happened though but the first time I noticed it was when they made the Freedom announcement.

Hmm.
Elec/dev blaster.
It may not be the weakest powerset combo out there, but it's certainly not going to be winning any awards. -
You know, as much of a fan of the book as I am, I'm incredibly surprised that The Way of Kings managed to make #71 on that list. Also, the complete and utter lack of anything by Octavia Butler on that list makes me sad.
