    What if?

I16 is fantastic to me because it adds just that much more customization and creativity to our characters. And the AE provides a limitless source of actual content (we never farm/PL). Even my daughter (age nine) has written her own arc.

Of course, my daughter spends almost as much time in the SG base or her Hobbit house (depending on which game she is playing) as she does questing. She puts a lot of RPers I've known to shame with her imagination. Whereas many RPers I've seen seem to think spouting off lore tidbits constantly constitutes roleplaying, she spends time in her house or in the other areas of the game world playing the same way she plays with her dollhouse. She has her own little stories going on all the time -- and even manages to connect them to CoH/LOTRO as she goes. That is, she's aware of the game world and just weaves it into her own stories. It's fun to listen to her play.

She doesn't require other players to interact with to have fun with her own stories, any more than when she's playing with her toys by herself. The other day in CoH, she had one of her characters being a super Longbow agent. For a while, she ran all over Atlas Park looking for Longbow patrols. She would check in with the leaders, give instructions, and move on to the next one. If they were in combat, she would join, and act concerned if any were knocked out or nearly defeated.

In LOTRO, one day I noticed she had her little Hobbit girl (a Guardian) in, dressed in a dress instead of armour, and walking around all the bushes in her yard, pausing every now and then. I asked her what she was doing; she replied that she needed to trim the bushes. She said that there wasn't an emote for that, so she just pretended that's what she was doing.

A few days later, her Hobbit invited a couple of our characters (both Hobbits, of course) over for a party. While we were logging in, she ran her character over to the neighborhood shop and pretended to buy food and such for the party. The she ran back to her house and pretended to cook. When we arrived (having doffed our armour and donned more party-appropriate clothing), she served several courses (from appetizers to desserts), then we went outside and played party games (e.g., tag, hide-and-seek).

We didn't gain a single point of XP, we didn't "progress" our characters one iota -- but we had a blast using our imaginations and playing together as a family.

The next day we geared up and stomped some Orcs together. That was fun too.
That was beautiful. My little girl is not yet two; I hope that I can have the same experience with her! It sounds wonderful.
  2. What would happen if The Radio and The Television showed up in the same thread? I shiver at the carnage..

    How?

How? I am almost at a loss for words. About the only thing I can say here is to quote Yosemite Sam: "Rassinfrassin....." grumble grumble
Two words for you, my married friend: JOINT PROPERTY.

Well, I think you are completely wrong here, but you are entitled to your opinion. And the phrase 'tossed in a booster' suggests to me that you are underestimating the work that went into this, the demand for it, and why I-16, in my opinion of course, is such an important issue.

Well, now, I don't think Rogue is out by year's end...Let's not spread false rumors.

FLUFF??? How is this FLUFF??? It has been demanded by the player base for years. To call it FLUFF is just silly, especially with all of the work that has gone into it.

I may have missed it but has anyone asked whether or not Epics will be able to "go rogue"?

    [/ QUOTE ]

OMG I hope so, I totally already have planned for my Warshade to go villain.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Why wouldn't they be able to? That would be kinda stupid. Everyone can side switch except for Epics.

What I'd like to know is for the Arachnos if you switch sides then you would technically no longer be allined with that faction so why would you have their uniform? Can an Arachnos gone good change their first costume slot? Or are they going to play it off as "I'm just keeping it for old times sake" maybe have some kind of story arch where you're required to wear it as a hero because the Arachnos aren't aware you've left yet and they want you to go undercover and find out as much as you can before you turn in your regignation.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Arachnos Soldiers already get an extra costume slot to accomodate the armor. Why would they get yet another? If you don't want to wear your uniform anymore, don't. You aren't losing anything.

    [/ QUOTE ]

They do? Err...Is that a bug, or is it intentional? I haven't seen that for my Soldiers, though looking at the Wiki, I see you are right. Is this a recent development?
  8. These have been some great posts, a nice stroll down memory lane. I've been playing for a couple of years, and really appreciate the game as it is today.
  9. [ QUOTE ]
I think the ability to set 8 man spawns in the new difficulty system will be the saving grace of Tankers. If you can set 8 man spawns, all the sudden Tankers look like a good soloing Archetype. I wouldn't mind seeing Tankers get Defiance 1.0, or perhaps some kind of damage boost based on how many enemies are aggroed on them though. And Brutes shouldn't be nerfed. There's simply no need. The times when they are buffed into overperformance are really pretty rare in game.

The real problem as I see it with GR is redside population. People will largely leave redside not because it is an inferior gaming experience (it's better designed mechanics-wise than blueside as we all know) but because:

-it's more fun for them to be a Hero
-system requirements on blue side are slightly lower (and therefore system performance is somewhat better)
-blueside is where they started. It's their "home".
-more zones (quantity over quality, but that's slowly changing with revamps)
    -more TFs.
    -better market.
-blue aesthetics preferred over red aesthetics.

Right now it's about 2:1 to 3:1 Hero:Villain. Post GR (a year or so after its launch), you'll probably be looking at 4:1 to 5:1. Or worse.

And PvP is a bit less fun (IMHO) when both sides are bringing exactly the same Archetypes.

    [/ QUOTE ]

My opinion is, of course, just my opinion, but I disagree. There are some really great arcs on redside that I wouldn't want to miss out, whether it is learning the true nature of Ghost Widow and Wretch early in my career, or showing the Freaks why their kind could never reform, no matter what bleeding hearts are involved, late in my career.
I play and like blue side; but I LOVE red side.

I started almost 2 years ago, i bet some of you vets have great stories about the early days, dont be afraid to share, us noobs are listening

What was Hami like when it first came out? Abandoned Sewer Network? Rikti Warzone? Hollows? Items Of Power Trial? I bet we missed alot that we take for granted. It could not have been easy having to run to all the zones! What was the game really like when it first came out?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually, you know, I would love to see a thread like this, with thoughts and comments from those who were there at the start or at last jumped in just after the gun. Not just the ED stuff, but all the changes, for good or ill...
  11. Wow. That was...awesome. Though, um...a bit icky with Lord Recluse there, I think...eww.
  12. [ QUOTE ]
I believe that the dropships give no reward if defeated. Also, they do not slow down ever it seems, while you as a player will if you attack. Very difficult to defeat with no reward.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It's more for bragging rights, I'd say. I think close to a dozen 8 man teams were taking down drop ships in a coordinated effort over on Virtue (red side) last night. Awesome and epic!
  13. [ QUOTE ]
I will say this.. I hope that make a secondary as well. I would like to see some more complete sets rather than just a primary and thats it..

    [/ QUOTE ]

On a positive note, BaBs suggested in the I-16 announcement thread that we will see a 'hellfire whip.' Looking forward to seeing that!
  14. Good point. At the same time, the previews we have so far do not show Desdemona in Praetoria (I believe), but working with Statesman on Primal Earth...
  15. [ QUOTE ]
    As mentioned, it's a story.

Plus, really, it's not *her* that's plysically strong enough to do so - it's the demon she controls. Very common to have someone in books and such summon demons *far* more powerful than themselves and either (a) bind them but have to keep some sort of concentration to maintain control, (b) give something of themselves, or (c) have the demon just "play along" to cause havoc, then turn around and make its "master" into an hors d'oeuvre.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Exactly. Her power is mostly her demon summoning; even her ability to 'fly' is due to riding her demon! (Man, I wish that was a nice new travel power!)
  16. Any thoughts on Maelstrom's origin? "Mercenary Super powered Soldier"
Or am I reading too much into that?
  17. Positron suggested on his Twitter feed that Thursday is the 16th....if we are good..there may be something new..
  18. It's great to see another update! Not sure I would want my daughter to model her attire on Desdemona's, but her bio was pretty good!
I'm looking forward to Tyrant's bio! I'm hoping it is as detailed as the other two, and allows us to see what 'turned' him down this dark path, as well as his daughter's rebellion and granddaughter's coming to the fold.
But shoot, finally more! Yummy crumbs!
  19. I thought the maintenance days were Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays anyway?
  20. If this is what I think it is, you have two tasks. The first is to research salvage in a book/bookshelf. There should be a glowie nearby in the library. After that, you must gather salvage, which requires you to go to the building next door, which will give you the salvage needed for the recipe you have.
You are not actually using a recipe or salvage yet!
  21. Oh, come on, that NEVER leads to problems on the Internet!

I know, how dare a dev try and branch out to the newest emerging form of communication...the nerve.

Don't worry Thanny, I'll keep ya informed on all the Twitter going ons.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I think Twitter is lame. I think it's a great site for Stalkers to use to keep tabs on their stalkees and their celebrity of choice. I really think it's a fad at best and not even a cool one.

However my dislike of things goes only so far.

Upon finding out that Positron_CoH Twitters, I promply went to the site and bookmarked his page.

I still won't join Twitter or condone it. However if there is any news of CoH coming out there, you bet I will read it...

Hypocrite? Maybe... But if I gets the juicy info on I16 then I don't care.

Plus, you know, my understanding is that many Iranians have found Twitter fairly useful.. so there is that. many Iranians have found twitter fairly useful
  23. Well, Freedom is always an option, as well as Virtue, the two busiest servers. Not sure about the Hami raids, but you can find good teams on most servers. They are listed in ascending order of load, so that the one at the bottom has the heaviest load, and the one at the top is your most recent server.
  24. [ QUOTE ]
I doubt that this will apply to the MA.

This and the Rikti Weekend just seem too close in proximity to be merely coincidental. I think the devs are trying to lure the "AE babies" into the rest of the game. Just dump all the in-game events into one month and people will flock there for the ONCE IN A LIFETIME CHANCE to witness huge invasions and get double the XP.

Or so I hope. Waving candy in front of their faces would help the AE babies more than slapping their wrists.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's a good observation. I HAVE started noticing more new players in the zones lately, with high level characters and one or no vet badge. So perhaps the AE folks are beginning to emerge from the cave, as though Plato has offered light on the wall...
