Quote:...Then put it on the Market. I'd sooner have twice the Bio space than twice the costume slots or twice the number of builds.
I can get behind thatIf people want to put down some Paragon Points to buy some DB space for longer bios, that would be fair for those who want it.

Exalted has only been around since Freedom launched, so I'm not sure how "well established" any SG will be, unless it's a cross-server SG. Wishing you the best of luck, wish I could point you in a particular direction.

I don't mind having a Psi hole thematically; in some mythos, they're more prone to suggestion having been created for servitude. It's something that I'll have to think about between WP and Invul.
Super Reflexes: I'm on the fence. Functionally, it works, but thematically, how good of reflexes will a giant animated statue actually have? OTOH, I'm here to hear you out, so I'll put it on the list with an asterisk.
Thanks for all the thoughts; any other thoughts will also be appreciated -
Since the Titan Weapons set was announced, I've been brainstorming on my next character. Making a new character isn't something I do on a whim; I have to have inspiration, and theme is just as important to me as playability.
In his PnP days, Obsidius' weapon was a great sword. Lacking anything like that when the game launched, he took up a Battle Axe. With Titan Weapons, I'm going to roll a new gargoyle truer to Obsidius' roots.
Will this character be "New Obsidius"? I haven't made that decision yet. Suffice to say, the character will be a gargoyle with a big sword.
Another thing I haven't decided on is the Secondary Power. For Obsidius, I chose Stone Armor, which thematically fits like a glove. However:
- I've already played that set out and am looking to play another Secondary set.
- For a Brute, Stone Armor can slow down the battle pace and reduce Fury, and make Momentum less effective.
- Gargoyles Fly. So I'll be taking the Fly travel pool. Obsidius makes good use of Fly and Stone Armor, but being a Tank (defensive character), it's easier to get away with. Regardless, Granite Armor does NOT Fly or Jump, which makes it hard to get around the battlefield sometimes (without taking something less thematic like Teleport).
That being said, I want to stick with something in the theme of a gargoyle: makes him resilient without sacrificing too much speed or maneuverability. So I'm thinking of the following candidates for Secondary:
- Fiery Aura*
- Invulnerability
- Regen
- Super Reflexes*
- Willpower*
I think these for secondaries best reflect a rock-hard gargoyle without defaulting to Stone Armor. My caveat with Fiery Aura is that it could cause players to think that my gargoyle is a demon (one of my pet peeves), so it's near the bottom of my list. However, I also know that it is a great offensive set, so it's still on the list.
Super Reflexes: I'm on the fence. Functionally, it works, but thematically, how good of reflexes will a giant animated statue actually have?
I have also played Willpower on a sub-30s Scrapper, but since it doesn't have any of the other drawbacks that I have with Stone Armor, it's still on the list.
So this is where I'm asking for help: I want to decide on a secondary set, and welcome any advice, observations, opinions, empirical data, and even numbers (but not too many, I don't do a lot of number crunching - I'm more of a play-by-feel guy). Keep in mind that Titan Weapons have weapons draw, so any click powers that un-draw the weapon should be kept to a minimum.
If you have any thoughts to share, I'll thank you in advanceSo, what say you?

IMPE, with my /Devices Blaster, slows are better for low defense characters against melee mobs. Of course, almost every mob has a ranged attack, but those attacks will be weaker than their actual melee attack. Of course, holds are better, but typically, many holds are single target only, whereas many slows are AoE or Targeted AoE. But on my /Devices Blaster, it would be hard for me NOT to take Caltrops, for example.

Quote:Hopefully better than Skyline.
Who am I kidding, anything is better than Skyline. Perhaps even many MST3K flicks. But I'm going off on a tangent now.
Here's hoping to a Bond film better than its latest predecessor. -
Quote:What should we change the symbol to? A knife? A gun? Those might not fit with someone else's theme. What would be a universally recognized symbol or villainy? Can you think of one that most players would agree with? A handlebar mustache? A stick of dynamite?Yep. That's right. Can we get rid of that annoying arachnos symbol attached to villains? I thought we stopped with the idea of being 'chosen ones' for arachnos. I have no desire to have my toons associated with arachnos (for the most part). I really think it stifles our character ideas to have them lap dogs for someone. Give us full artistic license to make our toons. Having a 'villain' symbol for villains would be nice instead of that arachnos spider.
My point is that I don't think this criticism is constructive. It asks for change without giving some suggestions.
More to my point, though, is that there will never be one symbol that pleases everyone. I still remember the numerous complaints about the Rogue and Vigilante symbols. And in the CoH universe, the most recognized symbol of notoriety is Arachnos. Even if you're not part of the organization, you're still probably setting up shop on their soil in the Rogue Isles. From an RP standpoint, it could be considered a national flag, as opposed to membership to an organization.
Just my opinion. -
Count my vote towards the new style, actually. It's easier for me to see which posts I've already read before having to open them in new tabs. More scrolling? Perhaps, but they're even more of digests now than ever.

Funny, I won the caption contest once but TheOcho never gave me a fancy shmancy forum title :/

Quote:I kninda said I wasn't going to read long biosSo don't read it. What does your willingness to read my bio have to do with my desire to write it? Not everyone writes text to show it off. Some of us write text for ourselves. So if you don't want to read longer bios... Well, don't. I won't mind. So long as I can actually write it, I honestly don't give a toss who reads it.
I just don't think the best use of database space is to double the amount of characters used for every character on the server. Especially since the devs don't seem so generous with increase the amount of database space for adding things to characters in the first place.
I like to write the occasional bio. But that's what I use Ouroportal for. We cans ave database space for more important things, IMPO.
As for player notes, they're saved locally on the client, where database space is not an issue. -
More is TL;DR. Give me the Reader's Digest version. If I want to read more, I'll got to someone's web site or ouroportal.com (when it goes back online anyhow). I don't read bios to read novels.
Obviously just my opinion. -
Lots of people showed up; this event went off with a lot of style
Congrats to Triumph's finalist

All you silly Americans* and your selfish mentalities. It's always about "me me me" and not about the community or helping others
* Obsidius is a silly American, and therefore, a hypocrite (at times). -
Beyond my area of expertise, lamentably
If I were you, I'd put in a Support ticket for that character.

Yes, my enthusiasm was short lived. Just had to log back in again
Apparently no cookie fix until the postponed maintenance happens next week.

I, for one, will be helping new players take down the Winter Lord in his Realm via the LFG tab, because I'm more than happy to show people how things are done -
The weapon will stick correctly when applied to a costume slot, it just won't load properly when retrieved from a save file. You can fix the costume when you load it, and then readjust your weapon no problem.
IIRC, there was also recently a problem specifically with Mace Mastery weapons. I think (?) that patch fix is Live now, but you might want to double-check. -
QFT. For some reason, the Costume Creator never properly saves the info for the first weapon on many weapon sets. On characters with two weapons, like Dual Blades or Dual Pistols, the second weapon DOES save correctly, oddly enough.

YES! I am still logged in this morning
Hero skin might still be borked, but this is a sign of progress

Some of my best SDCC memories are from Dick's Last Resort.
Quote:I got it. The cap isn't your problem: it's the earning power of a character from lvl 1 - 50.Okay, hopefully for the last time. I never ever ever brought up 25 mil. I am not for raising that number. I don't even know what that number pertains to, and honestly, I do not care. it has absolutely, positively NOTHING to do with this conversation. Start your own 25 mil thread. Enjoy.
As a guy who has been playing 4+ years. Before I started figuring out how to flip money to myself thru the market in the bad old days there were many times where I had trouble coming up with cash for SOs, and this was wit selling drops thru the market istead of at stores.
So, two possibilities. 1) Either you are really just a much smurfier player than me. Or, B) It can be really really hard for a person to buy SOs for their character at times.
Eh, it gets sticky at times, I'll give ya that. But what else is a F2P character going to spend Inf on, besides costume changes at Icon (or a trainer now, apparently, whatever sense that makes). Other than that, I can't think of any other Influence sinks for a F2P player, with access to Sgs locked out (the old Inf > Prestige sink) and no inherent access to the Markets (without paying at least $2 a month).
Is it tricky pre lvl 30? A little, but IIRC, I rarely had any enhancements go completely red on me for a lengthy duration. Yellow? Maybe, but I was still able to play the game at a reasonable rate.
I think with the modern conveniences of making money easy from IO-related drops, many players have become accustomed to starting characters out with gobs of Inf, updating every Enhancements when they dip the slightest in effectiveness, and have forgotten that you can actually play this game from 1-50 without anything but the Influence earned along the way (and selling any dropped Enhancements that your character can't use).
In short, I think you're underestimating the earning potential of a F2P toon, B_C. -
No problem
Sometimes the obvious answer is the first one we gloss over

If you haven't donated to the Titan Network yet, I don't know why
TonyV and the gang are busting their humps for you (and using vacation time to do it, too!)
