    BS/REGEN Praise

    I know /Shield scrappers are the rage and I have one at 50 too...but I truly forgot how great the BS/Regen powerset is.

    I had changed my 50 BS/Regen build to a PVP a while back and forgot about its use for PVE. I did a second build a few days ago for PVE and have not been able to stop playing it. I have been on teams lately where the tanks (may be function of tank skill) have hit the deck and it is me holding the aggro and dealing substantial damage to the AV/EB.

    In any event, I just wanted to share an opinion about the great BS/REGEN powersets. I am finding it hard to go back to my tankers that I normally play because of it.

    Anyone else love this powerset combo too?
  2. Zeus from freedom here (global friend).

    - I aimed for 30% def S/L/N/E which i find is enough for a reisistance based tank. YMMV. (some may debate N/E on electric armor but I prefer it...especially for negative energy)
    - Powers could be organized in different order and used dynamic mode so not a leveling guide...more a respec.
    - I aimed to keep your regen/recovery about the same (although I dont think it is necessary with regen/recovery powers you have)
    - I aimed to improve accuracy/damage of your powers (major improverment here)
    - I like the damage aura. DPS on this power makes it a winner.
    - It is very very expensive but your original build looked expensive so i figured it was okay
    - I would get all my accolades asap to get my HPs/max end. Those will make all perform even better and tougher.
    - No travel power but with lightning reflexes, ninja run and etc... you honestly dont need it. Raptor pack when you need vertical movement.
    - This is a first try so I am sure it can be improved upon

  4. I can share my experience have a few of each.

    1. I would not think of wp as regen. I think of wolverine as regen. I cannot think of a comparitor for WP (maybe Rambo) but they are different. Aside from thematic difference, regen is button mashing at its finest and requires babsitting of heals and etc...WP is toggle and forget.

    2. If you want SS, I think Invuln is a far better choice than WP. WP will work too but my personal preference after trying both is Mace. Stone melee would also work but not thematically.

    3. For wp, resurgance is about the only primary power I dont take. For SOW, i normally put in 1-2 resist damage depending on the rest of the build and any setbonus I might need. Also, I do slot hasten and try to get my recharge up if I pick mace.
  5. Hmm. Sounds like a fun concept.

    For a tank-
    *WP/Mace (change mace in costume to something like a baseball bat). WP/Mace synergize
    *Invuln/SS

    I know you are not thinking scrapper but,
    *Assault Rifle /EM for that Tommy Gun thug concept
    EM gives you that hand to hand melee (as long as you change pom-pom color to something less distracting)
  6. I pretty much think all the tank primaries are great. They do different things and require different playstyle which is why I like them. As a tank lover, I am glad the primaries all have different strength/weakness...keeps the game fun and interesting.

    I notice your use of mixed HOs in place like Char for example. Were they simply to get near ED cap on hold, damage and accuracy? (vs. traditional set like basilisks gaze for straight hold and the recharge bonus). About to start up my firt fire/rad so reading and learning all i can.
  8. I have just built a fire/rad troller (frist one). Have several fire/kins and ill/rads so I get the powersets and cannot wait to see how a team of fire/rad masters tears it up. I would like to join next session.

  11. Well you seem pretty convinced your build is optimized and that is what matters. Counting on procs firing off and a short lived God mode is a very different approach than my style. I prioritize toughness 100% of the time for my tanks and that is refelcted in the build I made- Personal preference.
  12. Sounds good. Be sure to run an ITF with those nasty defense debuffers...usually a good way to tell if you have enough res/def/ddr this side of STF. I find I do fine without the added DDR from GC but my resist is also really high.

    Oh and the other reason i picked fire was to introduce a dif type fo damage since s/l can be heavily resisted in end game.

    First off I think I would enjoy your build as is and don't personally pretend to be an expert on builds. There are experts here which would likely prefer your build. Second, playstyle has a lot do with build preference as we both know so my build reflects my playstyle more than any certain advantage. I did this quickly and am sure it could be improved too.

    A couple of comparisons-
    - regen/recovery are close and I skip body mastery
    - I am down 5% on HP but I think with accolades you would be hard pressed to tell the differnece
    - You are at 40% with 0 allies in range on positional defence. I am capped over 45%. If you turn on phalanx fighting I am at 50% def.
    - You have 15% resist and I have 46% resist. Could make a difference.
    - You have 10% more haste. Hasten comes up only 3 seconds faster on your build. If you put a purple set in Fireball you could make that back up if it was important to you.
    - I substitute Pyre mastery for a couple stone melee attacks. Who doesnt love fireball? Oh and for ranged attacks Fireblast does more damage than hurl bolder in DPS.

    Huge caveat- for my playstyle this is what I would do. YMMV and thanks for the discussion on builds.

  14. I love those recharge procs. They only grant recharge for ~5 seconds so I dont think one firing off will get you to perma hasten. At least that has not been my experience and I use them all the time.

    One note- I would not gimp myself on S/L resistence. I think you are underslotted for that in deflection at the least. If you say you dont need tough/weave I believe you but I personaly would pick them up too.

I like/play both shield primary and DM secondary quite a bit and so thought it would be fun to see what I could do with mids and not use purples (alright i did use LotG +recharge and a couple uniques lol). If you wanted more DDR you could drop Superjump and get grant cover (you are already at ~50% with this build). I find 50% to be plenty even on ITF...YMMV.

  17. It is slow and it's a shame compared to a few other servers regardless of search and tells.
  18. Protector was my home but I moved to Freedom a few months ago b/c it was so slow. Has it picked back up with i17? I have a ton of friends on that server.

    Call Me Awesome- exactly. I too have one of almost everything else and would rather play them lol. I figured i might like this build early on since I loved my invuln/dm (more of a single target machine) but the actual play difference is night and day. I might just table this build at 46 until they do something to improve Energy Melee. It really is nice to hear that my experience with this combo is not unique before I wasted any more time on it.

  21. ORACLE

    Stone/Energy

    Hi All,

    In the spirit of being adventurous, I built a stone/energy tank a few months ago. My original objective behind this was to build a tank that could manage the aggro for the team without fear of death and deal a fair ammount of damage to a boss/AV.

    This tank is now at LVL 46 and has tanked several TFs, earned several accolades and....well this tank really is not very fun to play. Now I should mention that I have simply played content and leveled him up without following any particular build plan b/c I wanted to learn the powerset before I went to work in Mids.



    A few points-
    • I am only using basic IOs and SOs on this build right now so no LotG +recharge and etc. I did not want to waste inf on recipes for this guy if I ultimately did not see myself playing it.
    • I do find my single target damage acceptable but between granite and the seemingly slow recharge of energy melee I find I cannot get a good attack chain going...part of the reason I don't enjoy this tank.
    • I did not take whirling hands and have no AOE to speak of. I would like some AOE in final build. I will probably take this power on a respec.
    • I was originally hoping to have a granite and non-granite build for those times when I encounter Psi or don't need granite. However, I think I might as well build a 100% granite tank so that I can get a decent attack chain and focus on improving the build I will play most of the time.
    • I would like to bring this tank into regular rotation and use it for particularly tough TFs like moSTF and etc
    If INF was no object, what would you recommend? In the meantime, I will be tinkering with mids and will post anything I come up with. Thanks!
  22. I think you could play this build with success but I always look for a little more. A couple quick thoughts from glancing at build quickly...take it with a grain of salt.

    Some people are comfortable with only a modicum of S/L resist but I am personally not. I would have slotted some resist in Deflection and would have taken fighting pool for tough and weave for added defense.

    I dont think energy mastery pool is necessary and you can get regen/recovery other ways to achieve similar or better overal numbers....plus focused accuracy is an end hog

    Other slotting choices stand out (like using KB BotZ 2 times to get AOE when some other slotting choices/manipulations would free up those slots... there are others).
