Quote:I get what you are saying, but when I and the onther 2 controllers, the defender and the corr are the main people going to the hospital, and I know, cuz I see em, all there, it's just my thought process that the popularity of the other AT's is the resistance they have and their HP.I agree that Melee characters are popular on the trials, it's not really that surprising since from what I've seen melee characters are the most popular ATs overall (except for Stalkers).
As to the second part stop and think about it for a second. You had 6 people from the Controller/Defender/Corruptor ATs. That's 25% of the league (assuming you were doing a BAF). There are 14 ATs in the game (if you include the EATs), Controllers, Defenders and Corruptors make up 21.4% of the possible ATs in the game so your point is actually that based on your league the proportions were closely matching the proportions of AT types.
Overall my experience is that the general proportion of different ATs in the leagues at the moment is reasonably balanced amongst the different AT "types". Some ATs are more heavily represented than others (in particular Hero ATs are more common than Villain ATs and Stalkers are very rare) but overall it seems to work out.
It's not that we are built wrong, we have just built for our AT, and I as a forcefielder have the luxery of expanding my defenses and my HP because of IO set bonuses, while others might not be able too as well.
I think the issue of one AT over another is that if a Tank or Scrapper gets the job done, they get a pet, an AOE, heavy debuffs and others neato stuff.
Now, if you have an Illusion/Rad, you get 2 pets, and debuffs. So if you think about it, if you want more bang for your buck it only makes more sense to take said tank and give them that Ill/Rads benefits. The tank now has the same abilities it always had and the survivability, but now it completely outshines the Ill/Rad in man ways. -

- Shadow Kitty (well, d'uh)
- Little White Lies
- Scary Li'l Devil Cat
- Fimbulwinter
- Unn the Thrown At
I know you! We used to play on that other MMO together. I recognize the sig.
I was Mephitidae...The Skunk Girl!
You might not remember me...I was just hoping.
I went by Rhiss. -
Quote:I agree...and it's a tactic I have used. FB draws a lot of aggro. Results in one dead hot chick. Even though I considder her very very non squishy for a troller. Now, I can't say for sure because I don't have characters with a lot of KB powers, but are the minions in the escaping prisoner phase of the BAF affected by Force Bubble?
If so, you can go to the set of 5 doors to the north and be extremely useful, because your Force Bubble will keep them from ever leaving that alcove while they're being killed. Your Force Bubble should be wide enough top cover that entire set of doors, and they are set back in the wall, so there is no way they can get around it.
However, this will be soon tested as I have changed my IO's to offer more range defense. Even though this is a good tactic...I feel I would bring more to a team as a non squishy.
I did a poll in my super huge super SG, and most people who do the trials are scrappers or tanks. We are a little blue heavy...which makes sense in many ways.
Most everyone chooses something survivable because it's a gauntlet style fornat. I think many people try to speed it, and unfortunately that only works with animate walls, but all rules go out the window when you have a team or league of of melee resist, because the conribution they offer is damage.
From my observation i'ts what you kill or help kill. Me force bubbling is awesome, but because there is little to no damage the equasion drops wont happen for me, healers, support classes in general.
so, my place on a team is control, which Ill do to allow the team to plow through, but at the end of the day, if I am not getting rewards for my contribution then their is litterally no reason to participate at all.
If what I do does not earn me something that I need to spend time doing so others reap rewards that I would love to have, Ill just end up feeling cheated while the other replace what I bring to the team because they have the DPS or HP to do it.
Which is sad because I never considdered COX a game of HP. -
Im having some real reservations right now about the comments about the worth of the new content. Mainly because it's worth more to others than many other players.
Thats not good, not is it bad, but being as objective as I can, I am seeing holes in how things are playing out.
I personally do not care if someone does, or does not like the incarnate content and trials, but in order to actually compete in gaining the wicked powers that come with it, you "Need" to participate in the content.
Now the Ramiel arc suggests that you can solo content to gain your alpha, or with one or two people.
Now you can't really do that with the league missions and we all know that they will not be for everyone. Im very mixed myself. Sometimes I like it, and most of the time I don't.
What I do not like is that the new content has trivialized the old content beyond current repair. Regular Task Forces which used to take a team working together or at least with some form of synergy is replaced with a Victoria bot, or Judgement etc.
Im a controlle. Grav/FF. The good news is that I get to attack more and more which is fun, however I rarely FF people anymore. It's not needed in most TFs.
I have noticed that the Tanks/Brutes/Scrapper section of the game seem to be those who are running the trials more. Literally I was one of 3 controllers on a League with a few defenders, and a Corr.
Im not suggesting anything, but I have a key idea as to why this would be the case. The only thing is that now, Im, sort of finding things lack lustre.
Although I definately only speak for myself.
You like the content, Im glad! I hope you enjoy it and have fun with it for long times to come.
If you don't, I can empathize with you. What we need to do is A) just ignore it, or B) try and figure out how to make it fun for us.
Making it fun is the challenge.
~~~I suggest something nice on the backside of your toon...at least when you faceplant you still look good doing it.
~~~Or alternatively...since you are gonna faceplant anyhow, go out with BLASTER style bang if you can! -
I sort of like all my names.
Glitter-Bug. Got her name in Praet when resistance members called her a Glitter-Bug
Grave-Dust...just cuz it's voodoo and cool
White-Swan because it's toilet paper, and a fun name. And Duck-Chick was taken
Rift-Dancer (My main) who I love
Heart Seeker...my archer.
Rift-Dancer is my favorite though. -
Well...
Oh where to begin!
I dont know about their defense, but my bubbles...which have always worked well deflecting stuff, now don't. Resistance seems to have a better time. -
Ever Play Risk?
Seems the colors are right on the money to me. -
Quote:This is the most important thing you said in this statement. A) because it's clear and no one can switch your words around, and B) because it's actually true.I'm not saying I won't do large-scale events ever for any reason. I probably will when opportunity falls into my lap. I AM saying that I'd like to do other things most of my time, since "other things" is what I enjoy, whereas large-scale events feel more like work or a chore. I know for a fact I'd almost never do them if it weren't for the rewards tied to them, which ought to say something.
There is a mix of people out there who like to run TF's at normal speed and there are those who like to run it at a high speed rate. It's because they want the rewards, but might also have time constraints.
TF's and large scale events are wonderfull additions, but when nearly all of the other content requires the eventual completion of some of these time consuming things, it bottle necks even casual players into participating to gain rewards.
This is both good and bad because sometimes these players learn to enjoy these events, and the bad part is that sometimes it does the complete opposite.
I ran a Numina, and I swear to which ever deity you pray too that Id rather stick a fork in my eye then ever do it again. It's not a task force it's a load screen nightmare.
I think, if I am understanding Sam, is that in the original content the AT's brought something to the table. And if you were good at your job, you would get notice or recognition, a friend invite and have someone to group with later on in both TF's or general content. Much of this has been removed with the the new Incarnate Powers, but more so for casual players who cannot complete as well as the hardcore, on the game all the time crowd.
That does not mean the hardcore folks should be penalized, but they all should recognize that the elements that made the game effective for such a long time have changed and while some like these changes many people also do not.
I am at this point in the middle. I have one toon incarnated (Not with all the bells and whistles mind you), and IOed, and Ill tell you straight up that was time consuming and not the most interesting part of the game I enjoy playing.
Multi-Group combat systems are wonderfull, but the concern I have is the Multi-Group aspect. League would imply one massive body, as opposed to 4 groups of 8, which is unruly, and while it allows for a team leader, it's mucky, clunky and ineffective.
It's not for everyone, but one should not exclude themsleves from it, just like no one should force someone to do something they are not interested in.
But if we are discussing fun factor, then you are opening yourself up to subjective responces and guess what? You might not always like the answers others give you. You might also not like the fact that the reasons someone gives you for their distaste or love of these recent changes seem trivial to you. But at the end of the day it really does not matter, because no one has given reason as to why anyones oppinions is wrong, without giving an unbiased look at their argument in the first place.
Arguments like.
~Leagues happen all the time in comix (Worst Argument by the way)
~Adapt or Quit!
~I like it, so you're wrong
~I hate it, so you're wrong
~If you want to advance you need to do it, so suck it up
Really don't address the fun factor for people. As a Casual gamer, Ill just say that I have done a few of these trials, and Ill choose a TF (Except Numina, cuz I really dont want to put a fork in my eye) over a trial. -
Solution
Build a Trial zone.
Fort Trident has a sub in it.
Make a base. Copy Fort Trident. Make it a trial zone by adding a vendor and access to both sides. Add the Hero merit dude and voila. Problem solved.
No one gets butt hurt and we all smile and nod and let people play the game. -
Well...
Pocket D is what it is and it has since the beginning of it's existance been the Rpers Haven, and while I am an RPer at heart, and build back stories for just about every charcacter I make I do not RP all of them.
Since we all know that Pocket D was always the Rpers Haven, what did you expect to hear when you entered. Especially on virtue?
I mean, it was to my knowlege always the RP zone or made that way, and it pretty much has all of the concepts of an RP zone, and the development team has pretty much alway kept it or advertized it that way, so for the RP community to voice their dislike of using it as a trial set up zone does not baffle me at all.
It baffles me that others who know this (And you all do) would think that it would be odd that it would happen.
1) Midnighters Club. This could have been and should have been developed more. It's an arc, and an interesting concept of joining a secret society. The Red side version is a million times better mind you than the blue side version and thats half of the issue right there, but it needs more love other than the fact that it allows you into Cim.
2) RWZ, In my oppinion is where Trials should be formed as it is a Coop zone, and always came across that way, as it's been advertized.
So at the risk of sounding like an RP carebear, which Im not really, I can empathize with the Pok-D group because it's the one place thats been anchored as the RP zone, and it makes perfect sense that they are annoyed.
PVP people get annoyed when PVP content is not added, changed, expanded or PVP becomes dead.
End Game complainers got End Game content now and even if not liked by all, it's there for them.
RPers get one zone they call their own, which we all recognize, and a handfull of new emotes here and there to pacify them, so if they are complaining about having their zone raided for raids, then I don't see why someone would post this thread.
You knew someone would complain...why make a production out of it.
Unless you are RPing that you didn't know this would happen. Then my argument falls apart. -
Quote:Point I was making, regardless of frequency, is that in these trials I see the melee resist or defense bases crowd being the ones who can obtain with the best results, tank mage status. If you offer everyones tricks to everyone, then the logical decsion is to incarnate something with more HP.Tanks can now FF people... pretty poorly. Even at the Very Rare, Barrier drops to just 'nice to have' levels of defense within thirty seconds or so--doesn't hurt to have around, but it's not going to do much for a squishy with no inherent defense. They can heal people once per two minutes. They can AoE and mezz once per 90 seconds (and the mezz is unreliable), and they can have pets up one third of the time. If I had a Defender who was using a single power from their primary every two minutes or a MM who only had his pets up a third of the time, I'd probably be pretty upset.
The Incarnate stuff gives characters abilities normally associated with other ATs, but with nowhere near the frequency. The only one that really compares is Judgement vs. crashless blaster nukes, and that's not exactly a new situation. Between Lightning Rod, Shield Charge, Archery, and Assault Rifle, 7 out of the 10 non-epic ATs have had some sort of crashless mini-nuke available to them for years. Plus, Judgement ignores recharge buffs and can't be slotted for recharge--most Archery Blasters can lay down Rain of Arrows way more often than that tank can Pyronic Judgement. Tanks and Scrappers have had holds available to them from epic pools for a loooong time, too.
But hey, I mostly play Defenders. I got used to Controllers tap-dancing on my AT's toes about five years ago.
Sure your FF might not be as good as my ff, but something has to be said that when I do these run the majority is Scrappers Tanks and brutes.
So when I make my observation all I see is the less squishies (Not all but most) getting all of the goodies, and finally, after all these years, this game is HP based.
I don't care if controllers tap danced on your behind...I don't. What I am saying is that the AT structure that defined the game is comprimized ,and that...is dangerous. You wont convice me otherwise, because I have watched and beta tested too many games that died before release because of this.
You take away a mages fireball and give it to an HP warrior, and you just end up with HP fireball warriors. It's how it will be...and until this company realizes that they cannot offer powers that made AT's unique to others..then we will finally see tank mages. Which will literraly be tanks throwing fireballs.
If this sounds mean Im sorry...It's just how I do feel about these changes. It's to quick, and it's to game breaking. -
Plus I don't care who you are...cuz I love you all.
The sub plot was moldy cheese with an extra helping of CGI and extra mold. -
Did not read this so my review could be true
Sound Track + 10
Movie...
Was exaclly like a review I read which was.
"The movie puts a bunch of girls through video game challeneges, none of which makes sense, and it doesn't...And if you love that then our 2 stars will mean your 4 stars"
It was pretty...lacked the passion of 300! As for plot...Who cared anyways.
It was what it should be...A rental that you enjoy after 3 pints and enjoy because it's a music vid, extended and brought to the big screen.
It's fine...It's mindless ent..and at the end of the day, It's not worth twelve dollar popcorn, but definately worth rendtng for 4 bucks, with a $3,50 jar of salsa, and a 2 buck bag of chips -
Quote:I don't think it's the worst argument. Mimicing the tricks of every other AT, leaves many AT's feeling...lack lustre now. At least with the Epic pools they differ amonsgt the AT's as to keep them still in a unique flow. The truth is now we are FINALLY super heroes. We are going from the second and third string characters that the game was originally designed to make us, to the front line heroes we should have been all along.
Or maybe because I only play scrappers and brutes I am just used to already being a jack of all trades, and this is just nothing new to me.
Seriously though, the character homogeneity thing is one of the worst arguments I have ever seen on these boards. It was bad when Epics were introduced, and it is even worse now.
This particular apsect of the game is accross the board. And while yes, you will be powerfull and feel powerfull, I never really did feel all that second string with my characters in the first place.
We now just have the issue of "One toon can do it all" which loses the unique aspects of the games design when coming up with AT's. -
Quote:Thats pretty sweet.Dark Armor has always looked like a mess to me, graphically. It's a big black blur of particles that evokes nothing.
Then a few days ago, I saw that guy named Living Sand (link to picture), a spines/DA scrapper. The screenshot doesn't do it justice, ingame it really looks like he's some kind of sand monster. That's a pretty awesome use of power customisation, turning a poor looking set (IMHO) into a whole new, good-looking concept.
So it got me to wonder, have you seen any really cool and inventive uses of power customisation out there? Any screenshots to share?
I did play with an illusionist who made his costume look like Phantom Army which I thought was fun, but prolly been done before. -
Well...I would love a rogue Robot faction. I always thought the Malfunctioning Clockworks and other malfunctioning robo's should join forces.
That would be fun times. -
Quote:It's all good.I apologise if that came off as a personal attack to you. It wasn't meant to be one. But at some point yesterday, I realised that I was tired of being vilified on the forums.
Villifying someone on the forum to me is like villifying the checkout lady at the super market because the store ran out of Chicken Nuggets. She could not control the chicken nugget consumption, and yet, she is the target of said Spines scrappers who like processed foods. It's not pretty, and it's not right!
Oppinions...are the new Chicken Nuggets! -
Earth/TA +1
I also think Grav/TA would be a ton of control especially later on in levels.
You build mags easily and when you get singularity you really have all the control and some neat damage as well.
Plus, you can pull flyers down easy enough onto a burning oil slick.
Im not really keen on sleeps, but you know Grav has many skippables allowing you to choose some other cool things from epic pools which would allow even more control/damage later on. -

Think of me as Geneva. I am really quite neutral to all of this and the post I found interesting in this was Nihilii's post.
It gave me something to read and helped me understand "The real difference between Trial, and non-Trial Incarnate Advancement".
Again, as for Claws, and you Sam, I am indifferent between much of that discussion. I see both your points and Im not calling out anyone. But derailing posts like Nihilii's post seems sort of a waste to me when at least I got something out of it.
I like both of you guys. Actually I have no forum dislikes and a completely empty ignore box, because frankly, Ill debate things, but Im definately not going to attack someone.
You have given me good advice in the past. Claws gave me some good advice yesterday, and Nihilii game me some data.
I just hate having to cut through a pithy rind in order to get to the fruit. -
Quote:I was not speaking about you personally Claws. I just find it funny that this is all in the "For Fun" section and I see a ton of barbed arrow flinging around like a spines scrapper on autofire.I don't know about anyone else, but I'm not taking any of this personally.
I have way too much else going on in my life to be mortally offended that someone disagrees with my opinion about a video game. I only post on my breaks at work, when I get home I have better things to do so I put it aside until my next break at work the next day.
Nothing personal about it, for me at least. I can't speak for anyone else though, and it does seem like a number of people are taking it personally.
Relax.....it's only words on your computer screen.....they can't hurt you if you remember that.
Im not taking anything personal, as I try to only speak on in game observations I see.
Just many threads are being derailed because of debates going on in other threads. Which detracts from the original question and or comentary this and other threads were focusing on.
Thats what I was getting at mainly. But I am aware thats how forums go. -
I think judgment is game breaking to be honest.
I understand the want for more options for it. But I think it was definately a step in the wrong direction.
My oppinion only, and I wont speak for others, because the need for theme is very important for me as well, and Im not trying to create an argument, I just feel it's not right for the game. -
Quote:Hense the reason Judgment is so desired as an option. It makes any AT an AOE monster.I am not liking the formula the Devs are using to determine participation level and to at least partially affect reward bonuses. It appears to disproportionately favor certain ATs with a combination of AoE damage/control, and player targetable buffs that can be spammed during downtime. If you are a damage dealer, debuffer, or a single target character-- there really appears to be a consistent bias in the rewards you are granted.
Controllers, MMs, and Defender/Corruptor builds that can sway their participation quotient seem to consistently get the best drops. ATs with no downtime abilities really seem to take a hit.
That's been my anecdotal experience so far... (And MANY posts here seem to confirm it.)
However the normal AOE monsters like Corrs/Blasters/Defenders and well, anything using AOE powers, don't have the suvivability that say Tanks/Brutes/Some Scrappers and the melee set have. But AOE is now available to those AT's
Lambda especcially favors HP based toons. Others can really do well. But it's definately the same people over and over I see in that hospital. -
Quote:I am glad I am not the only person seeing this.Yes the game is reaching a saturation point where homogeneity is leading to a boring experience. Personally speaking, let me explain why CoX, before Incarnate, had the best balance of power/levels in the industry. The milestone points of most characters were between level 1 (Creating a uniqe AT combination, primary, and secondary, along with a unique costume), level 20 (eg Capes, important powers), probably level 32 (last power in primary), level 38 (last power in secondary), level 40 (epic pools), and level 50 (cap). Between a primary, and secondary, along with power pool variety this allowed a tank and a blaster to both pick up tough and weave. But they at least retain some unique power set combinations from their primary, and secondary. The epic pools do not vary much, but there is enough variety still.
For the number of levels (50) compared to the powers you are able to obtain, especially with inherent stamina, I think it is a reasonable number. The only homogeneity was really from the power pools, but since it is a greater variety of powers to choose from, it is not often you find people with the same X powers, from Y power pool.
Now, with Incarnate powers, it is not these incarnate powers that pose a problem. Its how the additional incarnate powers in the near future along with the current ones will cause a layer of redundancy with primary, secondary, epic pools, power pools.
Boring game.
The level shifts may not be the same as changing the level cap, but it still has the same effect by adding more new powers. It causes saturation, and redundancy that is not needed. Most games that keep raising their level caps every expansion end up reworking powers such that to reduce this redundancy, and to also keep the game interesting.
Sure when my controller got her Psi epic pool I noticed to my amazement that I found her even more fun to play because I had some fun new flare with attacks. Psionic Tornado (Which normally I am not a fan of for some reason) under containment is really fun for me.
My concern is what you voiced, which is that when you are an AT driven game, that build it's mark on the diverse role of each AT, you remove what you created by making these AT's redundant.
On the good side it fixes the concerns of trying to find a balanced team
On the bad side it removes the need to find a balanced team. Which sounds like a half butted abswer that contradicts it's self, but if you have 8 judgement wielding, debuffing, pet calling, healing ressing tanks in a team, there really is no need for anything further.
Chewing through content now is a breeze, even if you are running a team of 36's becoming 50's because the tank is 50 and said tank has all the bells and whistles. It just plows through things.
Now Im not hating on tanks with super powers. Im using them as an example only because tanks have the HP, the defenses and survivability that others dont have. I use them as the example because when a tank steam rolls content, using mass AOE, Shield, Rezes, Heals and debuffs, you really don't need much else, because they being hearty now function beyond the scope of say a blaster with the same style of powers with all the bells and whistles from the incarnate system.
Sure my controller can hold crowds of enemies and reduce mob impact, but technically I don't even need to worry about that anymore.
It used to be that during the ITF, that when I got to the super computer the wisest action I could take was eating a purple, toggling my uber defenses and resistances and then hitting Force Bubble so people could take down the computer. Now said tactic gets little praise because someone is mad because the tank/brute...whatever cant Judgement nuke all the robots.
So the content imediately has changed and tactics have changed from what unique At's brought to the table, in order for shiny new Incarnate powers, which were earned, and are neat to replace what other folks once brought to the team.
Sorry for being long winded, but I'm giving what I think is a fair statement through observation.
But I want to make it clear that I am not opposed to the new content at all, just how it could potentially result in the game we loved for it's level of uniqueness, due to the AT niches, turning into a level of "We dont need this AT anymore"
