Welcome, Danny. Let us know what server you're playing on; I'm sure you could get some of us to join you in a romp around the City (or Isles).

STOP WITH THE MATH IN THREAD TITLES! I don't want to do math all the time!
Thank you.

Quote:Even jaded lurkers like me can still learn something sometimes.Funny how all the experts on how terrible it is to be on a low population server never actually play on the low population servers, isn't it.
Quote:...you don't see everyone going to kill the same 100 bats to get 7 Bat Nostril Hairs to turn into Bat Control Girl...
Quote:The servers are also at this time a sunk cost.
It has been what 18 months since the last major upgrade (With the large amount of extended downtime). Major tech like that is depreciated over 12-24 months typically.
The cost of maintaining them will be relatively small.
Larger populations by definition increase the bandwidth usage, and the internet bandwidth costs for NCsoft are not cheap. (check any of their financial reports).
Depending on the relative size of the maintenance, versus the increase in bandwidth from from fewer larger servers, it could be cheaper to keep the current set-up. (It could also be more expensive I don't have the figures, but I can bet you NCsoft does)
And, as far as informational text on the server selection screen, many new users simply choose a server based on its name and what it says to them. I know I did.

I say just put some couches in the magic stores. With all the bookshelves, they look like a coffee shop already...

Quote:Thank goodness someone other than me finally started one of these threads. I know I should be getting mine in about two weeks or so. Curious, yes! With the 6 year badge in the rearview now we're within a couple weeks of people hitting 75 months. Has there been any word what the next few vet badges will be?

Quote:General? Probably "meh". Although individual consensuses can vary (see previous posts in this thread).
What is the general consensus on server emptyness?
All in all, weekly server maintenance, auto database grooming, log file shipping, and temp file management probably leave the servers with all the space they need.

Welcome, Dirty Dozen. You're not really a Mod until you lock a thread.

Quote:Well, there used to be the kora fruit missions, where you could score tier 3 inspirations. But farmers got those nerfed. So, I guess to answer your question, not much.Someone tell me other than those pain in the *** tfs, what exactly is there that's interesting to do in the shard?

Quote:Yes yes yes, on all accounts. Sure, you'll run into some buttcapeheads, but by and large (in my experience) it's a lot of fun, and you can find new in-game friends. Plus when there are others in the team to defeat baddies, you can spend more time being the social, chatty one.Random pick up teams.
I know a lot of people despise them because they've had their own bad experiences with them, but it's what has kept me going with my latest toon all the way to 30! (which is amazing for my tiny attention span. usually Ive created 5 characters by now)
its easy
its sociable
and nothing keeps your mind off grinding if you dont have to slowly work your way through mobs like when soloing.
And just let me highlight again Vyver's last sentence. Teaming takes the grindiness away!

There's an Ironic badge? Why does a badger like me not know about it?

Quote:Yes, the first one, on my favorite character. It looked more like a hairstyle before; now it's flat against her head. I was never happy with that change.I know I have a picture somewhere someone made of some of the changed hairstyles (Flip, Wedge and a couple others were changed). I'm still looking for it.
<snip>
Edit: Here's the picture showing the hairstyle differences:
The Wedge style didn't originally have a peak in the front center; the banks went basically straight across. The Flip style is extremely different.

Frikkin awesome. I still, to this day, have to "Info" most DOs/SOs to make sure I'm buying the right one.

Quote:Me. I usually skip "slot" levels, even up to the low 30s. After that, though, I train every level.Come on, I know you've all done it. No one can be that eager to train when they reach 7,9,11 or even 13.
Maybe when you get higher and you have good enhancements waiting. But at low level, I wait for a "power level" ;-)

Ah, I fondly remember the old days when you could jump up the war walls and get around obstacles (and purples) without fear of danger.

Quote:It's from McSweeney's. Just Google "mcsweeney's comic sans" for the link (so I won't get 8-modded).We had a discussion regarding Comic Sans in another forum I frequent that has a bunch of graphic design students in it. One of them found this. I shall let the forum do the censoring.

Quote:This. Keep it newbie-friendly, and we'll continue to gain new players.No. Prior to Going Rogue, every player has access to every zone and every AT in the game simply by buying one retail box. Everybody gets the free issue updates. Except for a few non-game-changing frills in the booster packs (costumes, emotes, fluff temp powers). every customer has access to the whole game. COH is not only casual player friendly, it's wallet friendly.
One of the big reasons I continually turn down friends who invite me to play WOW with them is because in order to play with them I'm looking at having to buy not only the retail box just to get into the game, but what -- three? four? -- expansions. In the reverse situation, my friends coming over to COH, they'd only have to shell out for one box -- $9.99 if they pick up an discounted older version at Big Lots or somewhere like that. They'd instantly (well, instantly after the hefty initial download) have all the game I have.

It's like the first three frames could be a blank. You can fill them in with almost anything, and the last frame is still valid.
