  1. Exactly. I don't think late-comers will have trouble fitting themselves within our general plot. It is pretty broad.

I'd imagine something like this could happen fairly often in between Paragon and our steampunk world. They don't necessarily need to be on the same airship as the core group, or any airship for that matter. This airship group could simply act as a sort of lightning rod for all stranded persons from our reality. Since the desire to get back would, for the most part, be mutual.

Anyway, I'm not expecting a massive turn out to begin with. If newcomers want to be apart of the ship group, I don't think it would be too difficult for us to look the other way and integrate them the best we could. Besides, whose to say that everyone entered the CoH universe at the same location? It wouldn't be hard to imagine that some ended up elsewhere on Earth and have just found us... Time warps have a funny way of acting after all. :P

I think our base should be the "aeroship" though. Anyone skilled with base building that could pull this off? It would be so cool.

As for people's powers, I was going to let them spin it how they want. Some could have had them in the other world, and others probably could build something out of the airship's remnants. I'm sure there were plenty of weapons on the ship to begin with.. how else would they defend themselves from all the sky pirates?
  2. Ok, I've given a lot of thought to this SG for the last few days and I think I've come up with a concept for it that would appease everyone. Its broad enough to allow people to expand and come up with their own independent backstories while keeping the SG focused and a giving it a purpose beyond just a toon dump.

It is set in an alternative Earth where steam power technologies were developed beyond what they were in our reality... Basically how any steampunk fiction starts... Here it is:

(A clip from the New Oceania Newspaper, circa 1902.)

...New York Harbor, New York, The Union of Ameridia.

I let out a very audible gasp into the crisp air as I lay eyes upon the hulking silhouette before me. The dreadful visage looks down menacingly upon the insignificance of the people below it. It creaks and groans with loud booming roars that rival even the most awful and terrifying monsters of forgotten legends and children's tales. What beast of rage could this possibly be? What terror has come to reign down upon humanity?

When I finally come back out of wild fantasy and enter back reality once more, I begin to see that it is not a frightful entity but a noble, proud looking piece of machinery. It shines magnificently in the morning sun, nearly blinding me with its golden light. I examine its zeppelin shape more closely and see that it is highly decorated. The haul alone is quite a sight to behold. Upon it sits a large lion which looks to be carved of marble and accented with gold and silver. I struggle to keep my composure in the midst of such beauty.

Shortly after the initial reactions of everyone's amazement subside, we are corralled into an area where I can only assume the press conference will take place. When everyone is settled into their proper seats, the speaker at the podium begins to talk in an equally majestic voice. He gives us the details of the design an manufacturing that went into this wonder.

In his commentary I come to find out that it is called “The Brass Lion” and it’s much more than just a pretty face. It will be the most luxurious and accommodating passenger airship ever to set sail on the winds. It holds a total of 2,000 passengers, and will reach speeds of 120 mph. It is truly a colossus.

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, the future is here...

    ----------

Most of you may already know where I am going with this...

On its maiden voyage the airship ends up slipping into a rip in time causing it to enter into the present reality that is Paragon city. I was thinking about tying this to the Bermuda Triangle by having it disappear on its way to Afrika (), which would take it over that area. Either way, that bit is not really relevant, just a nice twist.

When the airship appears in Paragon, it is in ruins. The passengers have no way to get back to their reality so they go on a quest to find the scattered pieces and rebuild the ship. It don't think it would necessarily guarantee their return, but it seems to be their only hope as of now. (We could make a few MA arcs that have you recover some of these missing pieces.)

Any thoughts on this? I was thinking we could then name the SG "The Zeppelins" if it isn't already taken. Or maybe we should stick with "Brass Lion Club" or at least have something with "Brass Lion" in it.

Anyway, I am still planning on tomorrow as the start date. I will be on starting at 3:00 pm (Central Time). Anyone who can make it is more than welcome to join me.
  3. @ Tir_McDohl: Thanks so much! Now we have an arc we can run when we start.

How does this coming Saturday work for people?
  4. I really like "The Brass Lion Society." Nice one. Maybe replace society with club?

What does everyone else think of it? We should pick two good names and have a vote or something.
  5. Anything + Rad Emission... color it black and brown. the debuffs would simulate a swarm nicely, as you can get them to look kind of dusty/cloud-like if you use dark colors.

That's really the only thing I can think of off the top of my head. I suppose you could try something like a dark/dark scrapper. I used the dark armors once for a swarm concept.. where the character was supposed to be surrounded by a swarm of bees/insects. The sound effects for them are spot on as well.

AHHHHHHHHHH!!! spines/dark would be my final answer... spines = stingers, dark = swarm
  6. Well the name should to encompass both genres. So names like "Brass Kickers" or "Steamworks" wouldn't really work because they are too oriented towards steampunk. Course, we also dont want a name that caters to the Victorian side of things as well. Unless we totally want to go down the steampunk path... while not the original plan, would still be kickass.

I came up with "The Society That Time Forgot" I'm not so sure I like it, but at least it gives you guys the general idea of what I was hoping for.

As for a overarching concept for the SG, I wasn't planning on one, but it would sure make the RP a little easier. Maybe something like one of us built a time machine that each member found in their subsequent time and took to resent day Paragon City. It needs to be broad, and I figured that most, if not all, will have some sort of time travel aspect to their character's concept. Perhaps someone who has skills will be able to make a "mock" time machine in our base. Just an idea.
  7. Sorry guys, my account expired and I just had the chance to renew today. I also got unexpectedly busy this weekend, so sorry I could not start this. Unfortunately I will not be able to play this coming week either because I have a friend visiting me. Which, being double xp weekend, I figure people will want to play other characters anyway.

I have not made the SG, in fact, my guy is still sitting in the tutorial waiting for the start day. I don't even have a name for it yet, so feel free to suggest some if you have some ideas.

Right now it looks like the earliest that would fit my schedule would be the 17th, which is a Saturday. The time I was thinking would be 3 p.m. Central Time. Does that work for you guys?

However, if you guys want to start earlier, feel free to do so and I can just catch up. I have no problem with it.
  8. ^Do you guys have an idea on when you plan to start?

Anyway, if people are available, I wouldn't mind starting this weekend. I have to double check my schedule but I'm pretty sure I'll be free. Does this work for everyone?

EDIT: This is for blueside right now.

I'd imagine both sides. to my knowledge there arent any around, so there is no point in not starting a VG as well. The character I have is blueside, so I was hoping we could start with that unless there is an overwhelming cry for immediate redside. My computer has trouble running villains, so I probably wouldn't be able to join you guys till I get my laptop back in a month.
  11. Perhaps we can schedule something as to when we can start.. I've just made my toon for this. If no one has an established character as of yet, we can level up to 10 together or something.

I suspect we wont have many people until the SG gets off the ground, but you never know. I am a huge fan of this genre, so it wouldn't matter to me how large it gets as long as I have a few people to RP with.

I browsed it for a little while, but found nothing.. when is it planned to start?

If need be, I wouldn't mind starting one up if people show some more interest... I'd need help though.

I know what you mean about the pistols. They can't come soon enough.
  13. Sup. I'm looking for an RP Victorian and/or Steampunk SG or VG. Perhaps one of you will be able to point me in the right direction?

    Thanks in advance.
  14. Thanks! These are all really good points. I've come up with a good team build using your advice. Here it is:

  15. I really want to make a fire/cold, but am having a really tough time figuring out a good build. There are so many powers to take between both the primary and secondary, that this is turning out to be a VERY tight build, especially since I want to obtain a soft-cap to defense, especially melee, since I plan to be there often. Unfortunately, while its easy to get a good number on ranged defense, its quite a different story with melee.

Right now, I have only Fire Cage, Char, Fire Cages, Hot Feet, and Imps, from the primary in my build but have no clue where to begin cutting powers from my secondary cause everything seems so delicious. I would like to know what powers in Cold Domination can be skipped if need be.

As for the epic.. stone is pretty much a no brainer for the def the shield provides.

While I intend to solo, I still want to be a major asset to teams as well, so please keep that in mind when making suggestions.

    Thanks in advance.

EDIT: hmmm... well I was able to squeeze out 26.5% to melee def (21.5% range), 39.5% to smash/lethal as well as 22.4% resistance. I'm not sure if I'm satisfied with how the powers are slotted though, cause I was focusing on getting those defense numbers. Guess I have to try again.
  16. I'm still having a hard time deciding on what secondary I want to take. I was originally thinking traps/dark, but does anyone have any suggestions or comments about what to pair it with that will give the most synergy. Hearing that traps is a good AV killer, it makes me think of sonic right away.. I want to solo AV's!
  17. Sorry, but I'm gonna have to thread jack you.

This is the build I've come up with for mine. It's basically one I'm going to immediately respec into so I can begin farming effectively solo. Therefore, I avoided purple sets because I don't have the inf. for them at the moment.

I'd appreciate any advice/comments. Thanks in advance.

  18. I am setting up an IO set build for my traps/dark defender I will be rolling when i16 hits. I have a question that I need some clarification on.

I have at the moment, the Ragnarok: Chance for Knockdown proc slotting in this power. What I want to know is if this will continue to pulse for the full duration of this power, or would it just fire when I initially lay them down?
  19. Thanks for consolidating this information for us!

Remember when people were saying that Issue 11 was the best issue ever?

Issue 12 seems like its going to generate more hype than ALL previous issues combined.

I have wanted to make a Super Strength scrapper and a Ninjitsu scrapper for SO LONG.

Developers, keep up the good work. (But how in the world can you do better than this?)

Now, to hear the countless askings of Issue 12's release date.....( I hope it's before Metal Gear Solid 4 at least.)

    [/ QUOTE ]

Who's to say scrappers are getting SS? Don't get your hopes up. Each AT only gets one primary and one secondary, minus MMs and Brutes (who get two primarys and one secondary).

I doubt they'll want to give us more slots per server. That way, it will encourage people to move to less populated servers. Essentially, reviving them...

hah, and *lmao*, they remade the Hollows... why not a remade Mercy Island?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I would LOVE it if they did that! Please consider cleaning up Mercy. Removing all the boxes and other trash alone would reduce a lot of the lag associated with the zone. It be simple to explain story-wise as well... have the citizens of RI become vindictive towards villains, like a neighborhood clean up. You could do so much with that as well, like you could have villains run missions to try ruin the zone again.

Anyway, this issue looks GREAT! I hope I get invited to closed-beta.

I say now what I have said for 4 years. All I ever hear is "Yeah we could do it... but it would take too much time and it's not a high priority".

Well guess what BaB. Your players have been asking for this feature for 4 YEARS straight. So obviously it IS something we want and want it rather badly since we WON'T let it go.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    To quote BaBs:

"I'd also have to refute the claims that this is the most often requested feature. It's not. It's high up there, but there are still a half dozen things that are suggested quite a bit more and would actually have more of an impact on the game."

One year from today's date I'd much rather be playing a game with more to do than a game that looks pretty.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Just out of sheer curiosity... what are the most requested features?
  24. I definetly see that this would be a good reason to believe that they're probably working on a sequel. If everything that Cryptic is promising about CO comes true, then it could spell doom for CoX very fast. Being able to customize your character completely is something that I know I would enjoy very much. That is why I'm watching Champions very closely... I know that the game isn't even in beta and that some of these promises could easily go down the pipes. But I believe that they wouldn't promise anything that they couldn't pull off either. That's just bad business practice... not like it hasn't happened before though.

I'm curious to see how NC is going to respond to their new competition. I really hope they can turn this game around from where it is currently headed, because recently, I've felt that I'm being forced to spend all my time worrying about crafting and making money. It's that a thing of my own creation? Maybe.. But there is nothing else to distract from that. It has fundementally become a game of farming just like every other MMO. Hopefully, they can come up with new ideas, cause on the whole this game doesn't feel like it belongs in the superhero/comic book genre anymore. It's just a generic game where you can make any character of any current MMO genre and it will fit. It's a jack-of-all-trades, master of none sort of thing. Granted, this IS a good game compared to many other MMORPGs.

I wish I could come up with some suggestions, but I'm at a loss. From what I've read though, NC seems to have a few tricks up their sleeves coming in the near future. I hope to hear exactly what they are soon.
