    PW's war journal

Glad to see you're still updating this PW. I have to admit I like to try to spot the entries where I was part of the team.

And I'm bored at work and feel like responding to some of this so I'm going to quote and post a bunch of comments.

    Quote:
    Fri 5/7

Mystery Girl (43 emp/pistols defender) joined a pickup ITF. Not quite sure what it was, but this team just didn't seem to click; we died an awful lot. In the final fight Romulus was mauling our 2 SR scrappers and ice tanker with his autohit AoE (which basically ignored all their defenses); I couldn't keep up with healing them all, and we were very light on debuff so we weren't doing enough damage to Romulus to kill him. Eventually our two tankers pulled Romulus away from the healing Nictus, and getting him away from his healing finally let us beat him. Finished in 1hr 27m (whew!) and got to level 44. I like my empath/pistols defender, but I'm not sure I like her on ITFs; several times I felt like I would've been better off bringing a dark or rad instead.
Speaking of which, I think I was there for this one. I was one of the SRs, on my elec/sr scrapper.

I'm pretty sure you know this, and were just generalizing Romulus and the nictus' attacks together, but the auto hit aoe attack belongs to the AOE Nictus. Once Romulus dies he sacrifices the Auto hit Nictus for the first rez, so after that it gets safer, especially for defense based characters.

I always make sure to save or create oranges through the TF so I can make it through that first Rommy kill. (Hopefully with a few extras, in case the first kill takes longer than expected.)

Sorry, just had to get that pedantry out of my system.

Darla Doppler (45 kin/sonic defender) joined a pickup ITF. The leader accidentally started us on +2 difficulty and promised to lower it after the first mission, but it turns out our team was very strong and could handle it, so we stayed on +2. Clearing most missions, this took us 56m 0s and got Darla to level 46.
I'm so glad we have the difficulty settings back for TFs so we can do stuff like this. This would've been much less fun as a +0 difficulty.

Kyrie Eleison (47 fire/regen scrapper) joined an STF; I was pleasantly surprised that I died only once, in the final fight with Lord Recluse. (I'm not that good a regen scrapper.) During the final cut scene, Ultra Mode had shadows moving as the WEB device slid into place, which was very cool looking. Finished in 49m 11s and got Kyrie to 48, along with a fistful of badges.
I know what that's like, I've tried regen twice and deleted it both times. I'm too lazy to fight and watch my health. I prefer to just focus on the what to hit next.

That cut scene sounds cool, I look forward to seeing it now that I can use Ultra Mode.

    Thu 5/13

Millie Volt (50 elec/elec brute) finished the Wolf Spider badge to get the High Pain Threshold accolade (+150 max HP), then did the Exterminator badge mission in flashback and collected ghosts to get the Born in Battle accolade (+75 max HP); elec armor feels pretty squishy to me, so I'm hoping higher max HP will help. This is actually the first toon I've ever gotten Born in Battle on; I think the damage badge requirements got lowered a lot recently. I started trying to get Born in Battle on Mega (50 SS/will brute, my main brute) as well, but somehow despite being an older toon, Mega hasn't taken enough damage to qualify for this badge. I'm guessing this is because Mega has a lot of +max HP powers and IO sets; I vaguely heard that damage only counts for badges if it lowers you below your base HP.
I've heard the same thing about the +hitpoints, which makes it tough for willpower to get the badge. Any +hp set bonuses or accolades will also make it tougher. I've heard of people using their second build to make a gimped build to use for damage farming. Another factor is defense, willpower doesn't have much but /elec has none so it takes more damage. I suspect the +hp of willpower is the main culprit though.

As a result I posted an Alternate Contact Tree using Mission Architect Story arcs on the CoH forum. I figure one of the most common questions people ask about MA is "What arcs are good for me at level XX?" and this would be a way for people to find that out more easily.
Nice, that looks like a handy post PW, thanks.

    Quote:
I was at +2 difficulty, which made our first mission a little hard (we had a good mix of ATs but most were lower level and/or not highly optimized) so I lowered difficulty to the default +0 for the rest of the TF. On mission 3 I pulled the various generals down to the bridge (I felt this would be safer for this type of team than rushing each general) and a teammate praised me, saying they'd never seen anyone do such a good job pulling the generals, which was nice. Though ironically pulling only the generals with very few minions meant that after we beat up Romulus and Requiem, we had to kill some leftover Roman minions to complete the mission. Anyway, this was a pretty fun team and we finished in 1hr 16min, which sounds long, but we killed just about everything in our path.
That team did pretty well on that first +2 mission, we had few, if any, deaths, but it was slow, and Romulus and the Nictus AVs would've been tough.

You're pulls on that were perfect, I was surprised to see only the general following you on that first pull.

    ...

Ok, that's more than I intended to post, time to get back to work.
  2. Nice list PW, I'm subscribing to this so I can find it later. It should come in handy when I feel like trying a good AE Arc.

I noticed a few of your arcs got snuck in there, but they deserve it.

I'm also glad to see that New Age Ronin's Becky the Tarantula Mistress arcs got included, I loved those.

Sorry, but I've gotten TOs, high level, non exemplared - not often, but on occasion, yes. And DOs in the mid-late 30s (I want to say past that, as well, but having just gotten rid of a few I can at least vouch for mid-late 30s.)

It's not common, but it does happen.
I've gotten high level TOs as well, not exemped just playing normal missions. I recall getting a level 40 TO a month or two ago. They are very rare though.

Nope, I didn't have this day job when I got the TOs.
  4. It was a fun run Infernal, thanks for the invite. Even a fun tf begins to drag by the 3rd or 4th hour, but I still had a good time.

By the way a slight correction, but Agriculture is a plant/kin not fire/kin.
  5. A chance to get freaky with the Sisterhood? I'll be there!

    Sally's Extinct

Like the others have said,I see her regularly too when I got to Croatoa.

Actually since the popularity of Croatoa has waned a bit recently I've seen her much more often than before. Turgenev said it best "you young kids don't realize how hard it used to be to spot her. We had to get up a 2AM and our father dragged us to the lake without breakfast. We'd stand around for hours hoping to spot her before another team so we could attack her. Did I mention the snow drifts were 10 feet high? We didn't have any shoes and it was uphill both ways to and from the lake?" LOL
I used surveillance on Sally once, she has 0.5 hp and I think negative defense and resistances. So yeah, basically looking at her is enough to do it.

I think that'd do it. Replace keyname with whichever key you want to use. There's a list of the names on the wiki if you're not sure.
  7. I probably won't be there, my parents are in town again this weekend. We're finishing up some random renovation stuff in preparation for bigger jobs later.

They do plan to leave earlier on Sunday so they can get home for suppertime, but I doubt it'll be before 2 pm my time. I'll see you guys later on Sunday though.

Love all the art Kat, lots of great stuff.

  9. I haven't gotten a demon MM above 6 yet, but looking at the names. There's Demonlings, Demons and Demon Prince. So to separate each tier add the extra letters on the end of demon for the first two, l for tier one, s for tier two, and use prince for the tier three. Seems like that should work.
  10. Great video, as someone else mentioned the music and video matched perfectly.

I especially liked the (tm) you added for Issue: 19.

    Right handed here.

I know a few of the power sets are left handed, katana and archery come to mind.

It still is, I remember seeing it a few days ago.

By the way I wanted to thank you for the wiki, you and the other contributors. I used it even before I started playing the game, when I was thinking of buying it.
  13. I think what Aggelakis meant its that instanced missions don't use most of the UM effects. The only thing they use is water reflections in the sewers. Flying around the zones should give you the full effect though, so if that works fine you're likely ok.

Also, when you get stuck in crystals like that try the command /stuck. It'll tp you a few feet away and free you up. That happens to me in one of the SGs I'm in. They put a crystal in the entrance tper and I keep getting stuck in it.

  15. I've only been here 18 months but I have lots of great memories. Most of which I can't remember right now.

I still love hearing the Atlas plaza music, it reminds me of the first time I entered Atlas during the trial.

Speaking of which, I started playing on Oct 18, the first day of the halloween event. It took me a week to realize that the perpetual night wasn't normal. It was two weeks and the end of the trial before I saw daylight in game.

As everyone else has said, the best thing is the community here. I didn't even team for the first few months, but since then I've learned to love the social aspect of this game, and the people here are great.

I love taking off with flight on my main scrapper. Move forward a few steps hit jump and then fly off, it's just so natural and super.

I also like doing parkour with hurdle, combat jump and now ninja run. I love going from building to building.

And lots more I can't think of right now.

We faceplant, but still, it was the most hilarious oops moment - we did eventually get our AV, after a bit of collecting ourselves.
I've done that, that's why these days I have autorun bound to shift+e. It's pretty much impossible to accidentally hit it now.

I wouldn't say they're slow, just really busy. Now that it's spring everyone wants to start digging up their yard. Plus, we didn't decide to do it until a few weeks ago and then I didn't call them until this last week.

Still, definitely yay for the change of plans this weekend.

I believe it's 40 merits for the whole thing, 20 each, but I never got a chance to run it all on test so I could be wrong.
  18. Well, it looks like I can make it for this after all. I was expecting to be fixing a fence this weekend, but that's not happening now. So instead I'll be playing the game with you guys.
  19. Yeah, it's interesting the different ways people are using the note system.
  20. Looks like I should be there. Originally I was going to be repairing my fence this weekend, but we can't get the utility companies out to check for buried stuff until later in May, so I'll be gaming this weekend instead.

I thought it sounded like that's what you were doing. It's not a very well documented system. I don't remember where I first heard about it. Either the forums or the wiki I guess.

I 3 star those that are not on my global list and that I like to team with.

I 5 star those that are on my global.

I use 2 and 4 stars for villain side teaming. 2 for hell no, and 4 for booyah! So when I see someone running around with a 4 star, I will message them and see if they wanna go be bad. If I see 2, I don't necessarily avoid them on heroside, just villain side. hehe

That's just my crazy wonky system. But it works.
That's an interesting system, now I'm hoping for 4 stars.
  22. Oh man, look what I started, it's even spread to other threads. Sorry Gel, I'm happy that I have 4 stars. I was just joking about 5.

Four stars means you're the absolute best kind of teammate to have. So cheers, mate! Unless you want to become my father in law or stepfather you're stuck with four stars from me.
I meant Gel's picture, I hadn't looked at your screenshot yet. I'm happy to have 4 stars, thanks.

I don't have any real life family or friends that play the game, so I don't use 5 stars for that, but I do save it for good friends, and like you it doesn't mean the most skilled players.

Gel, I just posted the way I use the system in one of the other screenshot threads. Of course it's not 100% consistent, but it works alright. Sometimes I get lazy and don't add stars or notes when I team with someone.

I think the only way to put that much detail into the system is to add notes, but you can only see those by right clicking and checking the notes. So it wouldn't help spotting people at a glance.

By the way my understanding of the star/note system is that it goes by global name, but I could be wrong.
  23. I was just joking when I mentioned it, but I'm sure you know that.

The way I use it, is anytime I team with someone I start them at 3 stars and add a note saying where and when we first teamed. Although some people who's globals I'm familiar with I'll just star them and don't add a note.

Then I move their stars up or down from there, with not so good players at 2, and "do not team" people at 1. Good players and friends get 4 or 5 stars so they're easy to spot even if I don't recognize the character name.

    PW's war journal

I was thinking the young hero is probably telling his friends about the time he saved an overconfident tank with whirlwind.
  25. I took a few shots too. I've been meaning to set up an image host account. I'll do that and post mine, but I didn't have the ui turned on so mine won't have any names.

Also, why do I only have 4 stars? Now I'm sad.
