Mine? Not getting a PC when I finished basic training. The week I graduated is when City Of Heroes launched.
I didn't get a PC till 2006. -
Quote:Seems that I omitted my age from my earlier post in this tread. 26 here, started the game when I was 22.17 here, so I guess I'm just more proof of how many ages the game can pull in. Considering we've had mentions of 75-year-old (or thereabouts) people here as well, there's quite the age range. Maybe it's proof that we're all kids on the inside.
Would be interesting if someone could actually tell us the average age of a CoH/V player. Anyone got a clue? -
*Smells the prunish smell coming from this thread*
Kidding. Nowhere near most of the ages posted in this thread, but I hope to still be playing games myself when I hit that age.
My father in-law is 61 years old and his game collection puts mine to shame. At least when it comes to physical copies. -

Quote:I can attest to AE being a draw. As opposed to the players who outright refuse to play any mission not created by a dev, (and I shake my head at people with that view) there really are some good stories to be found in there. The "too many crap farms" argument isn't really one. You can easily skip over them.Thats subjective. For veterans of the game, side switching might be the biggest draw to keep playing in the last 3 years.
However some players might find the AE system to be that draw.
Or others like myself, find the hardly touched and often hated pvp system to be a draw, even after it was completely ruined (in my eyes) after i13 hit.
I never felt a lack of content in the game because I haven't done it all, and AE is just a bonus. -
Again, thanks. Some of those fonts are quite awesome.
A search on google revealed even more fonts, though the ones I wanted the most are usually hand drawn. Didn't stop me from finding several famous fonts though. -
The fonts that I have on my PC just don't cut it.
I guess I'm asking if there's a website that has "comic cover" fonts. You know, the cool fonts that appear on the covers of comics, like the one in my sig, for example. I've seen some fan creations that have had them before, and I think it's time for me to get into the game.....
So.....is there anywhere to find these? Or am I stuck drawing them myself? (Which I really, REALLY don't want to do. I haven't done it since 1998, when I was still in middle school.)
Thanks in advance. -
Quote:Heh. I found out about this game in an issue of Game Informer (around the same time that Final Fantasy X was released) but didn't see an actual ad until I read an issue of JLA in 2004. I didn't get my PC until 2006 though......I figure all the new Super Hero movies will help Iron Man 2, Captain America, Avengers, Ant-Man (?), Thor, Spidey reboot (rumor), Hellboy 3 (i think) These are all coming out 2010-2012.
People will get into Super Heroes again and find this game the same way i did, google "Super Hero mmo" -
Quote:Well, several huge console games were recently released (Final Fantasy XIII and God Of War III are two examples) so some players are probably playing those at the moment. I know for a fact that I will be on less when Super Street Fighter IV comes out next month, but not gone. I plan to alternate between that game and this one maybe like every other day. This last weekend, my wife and I attended the PAX COH panel. Now, we haven't played in a few years- but before that, we played COH pretty intensely, starting in Beta. Since then, we've played WoW, AoC, and now we're playing Champions. Anyway, we got fairly excited by what we saw at PAX, and when my wife won a signed copy of the game at the Paragon party, we figured it was a sign.
So when we got home, we (re)installed the game. And...
... I'm not sure, yet. When we last played the game, everything was hopping. Heck, it was almost too crowded. Now, though... we played for two hours last night and I think we saw a grand total of six other players... and two of them were AFK. The city was a ghost town. I looked in Atlas Park, Steel Canyon, and parts of the Rogue Isles... and everything felt just so empty. Where the heck is everyone?
It may be that our server (Victory) is just deserted. Moving to another server would kinda suck, though, as it's unlikely we could get the same names (and I'm very attached to names).
We also found that we couldn't really remember how to play. One feature I was very interested in was the Level Pact system- but we couldn't find any documentation on it. How're we supposed to find out about features like that? And why couldn't I change the colors of my Peacekeeper's powers?
Though I can't speak for the gamers who have the attention span of gnats, and jump onto every new MMO that comes out. -
Quote:I wish I had copied and pasted what I thought would counter WoW. I thought a Dungeons and Dragons MMO could have been a viable rival to WoW if they had done this:In my humble opinion, only a couple of simple things:
1) It needs to be made by Blizzard
2) It would need to be based in the Starcraft universe.
Based it on 3.5 edition (not sure if the current D&D MMO is)
Included epic levels
Expansion packs up to and including Forgotten Realms, Dark Sun, Dragonlance, Eberron, et al Maybe even an expansion dedicated to other planes of existance
But look at what the D&D MMO turned out to be instead. I guess I shouldn't have set my expectations so high. (And after that, I don't anymore, for any game. Except Super Street Fighter 4. I get to be Guy again.)

I wouldn't say all of the following are bad, but several have made me raise my eyebrow.
THIS IS WHY IM HOT
GUY WHO SHOOTS FIRE
I Burn Things
How You Die
B*TCHCHOKE
Batt Man/Bat Mann (various spellings)
Mad Mad Hulk
Yes Another One -
-
Well, I have no questions, as most of them have already been answered.
Going Rogue could not come out soon enough though. At least I'll have Super Street Fighter 4 to keep me busy (but that doesn't come out till near the end of April......LOL)
Guess I'll just see how many characters I can bring to 50 (legit leveling) until it hits. -
Hmm. Maybe I should do this.
I've been wanting to level a character strictly in AE for some time now. (Legit levelling, not PL-ing.) This sounds like much more fun though. -
Quote:Not in Justice League it wasn't. That has to be the most badass Aquaman there is.An Aquaman run is always tragic
I like him, but I can totally see where the mockery comes from
Well this could work, assuming you use crossbows and now a bow. -
I would ask:
Please make it so that we can view the powersets of the other side. The reason for removing it was.......irrational......in the first place.
I don't exactly remember what the reason was, but PvPers did not want opponents seeing what powers they had.
????
With co-op and the upcoming Side-switching, it isn't necessary anymore. -
I forget where I saw this, but super-beings who wanted to play sports had to do so in their own leagues, as they had extremely unfair advantages over normal athletes. Imagine running-backs in the NFL with super-speed, an invulnerable boxer, an NBA player who can freeze time, et al. It would make normal professional athletes look like amateurs. Very few people without powers can compete with those who possess super-powers, and even then, it has to be technology that closes that gap......or be a very well trained martial artist on the level of Shang Chi.
-
Hmm, if we mean the real world, it wouldn't take long for someone with powers to screw up, and supers get the Marvel Comics treatment. (Distrusting, jealous, hatred of mutants, et al)
It'd be nice to get DC treatment though. (Well-liked, respected, counted on)
It's always interesting to see how the two universes compare themselves when crossovers happen. (Assuming Quesada ever quits, so they can happen again)
Marvel Heroes about DC
Scarlet Witch: These articles, ads.....these people idolize their heroes.
Quicksilver: Not so much like at home, eh?
DC Heroes about Marvel
Superman: Is this a monument to something? Is this the respect their heroes earn? THIS?! (He is looking at a ruined statue of a hero fighting a villain that has been vandalized)
J'onn: (In Genosha): These people were bombed for being genetic mutants. For the crime of being different.
Again, it makes for rather good reading. In Superman's eyes, the Avengers failed to inspire the populace. In Captain America's eyes, the Justice League parades around like gods, demanding the adoration of the public.
I'd really like to see how the reactions would be in RL though. -

UPDATE:
It turns out that it wasn't a backlight bulb at all. Fuses inside went bad.
Now I'm just waiting on the call to come get it. -
Quote:Yeah, I tested on another PC and got the same thing. I can get the backlight replaced for me as soon as tomorrow. It could be the backlight. If so, you should get the same thing when it's not hooked up to a computer at all. The monitor should display some kind of message about no input, but the backlight should still act up.
That's what happened with mine. The entire image was flickering. It did the exact same thing whether it was connected to a computer or not.
I just forgot how ugly CRTs were. -
Will test it on another PC now.
-
This isn't the first time this has happened, but today has been the first time where the problem didn't go away or correct itself.
Today, when I turned on my PC, my image on my 22' Widescreen kept going dark. Like I said, this isn't the first time this has happened. Usually, I just turn the monitor off, then on, and I'm good to go. The last time this happened was about 3 months ago. Turning it on and off, unplugging the power and display cords, and updating drivers did not work at all.
I don't want to think about it, but I'm beginning to wonder if the bulbs in the monitor have gone bad.I can live on the old CRT for a few days if it can be fixed.......
Is what I posted the signs of a bulb in a monitor going bad? Getting the bulb replaced would be easier (and cheaper!) than getting a new monitor. -
Quote:Was this really necessary?Oh, for cryin' out LOUD.
PLAY WHAT YOU WANT TO PLAY.
What the hell is with people and their eternal whinging about the freakin' numbers?!
ANY scrapper can be fun. ANY ONE.
Given that you seem to like a ss/sp broot, PLAY IT. Criminy in a bucket. Going Rogue is coming, and you can play that toon to your heart's content.
If you are serious about playing something else, PLAY WHAT YOU WANT TO PLAY.
How hard is this? (sheesh)
That said, a toon you might enjoy is a claws/inv. Feels very similar to a ss/wp broot, while being totally different in the details. But to be blunt, IT DOESN'T MATTER.
Play what appeals to you. -
Even before Brutes got Claws, I had always dreamed about having Claws on them.
And they are everything that I thought they'd be on Brutes.
