Toooootally off topic somewhat (only cause it was discussed earlier in the thread), but did that "3rd game" launch already? Last I'd heard it wasn't coming out until March, but the website makes it look like it's here.

Cool deal. I still need to try out that Bloodstone game.

Quote:+1Good stuff. My favorite Batmobile is the one from the '92 animated series. I think it's recognizably a Batmobile without being outlandishly over the top. Plus it's got that art deco aesthetic that I love.
I've always loved the '92 TAS Batmobile as well. I actually had the toy that had the little pop-out "Bat-jet" thing. Kinda wish I still had it for nostalgia purposes.....
Also, they're missing the Batman Beyond Batmobile. -
Quote:I believe DCUO will have to open up their character creator and costume options if they have any hope of truly competing with CoH and CO. I would guess that much of their launch playerbase will be vets of both aforementioned games, and those people have a certain expectation of how a hero game should be. As much as it was probably originally designed to just be just a MMOG, I just don't see them lasting long (at least on PC) without adding some RP elements; many of which will probably be borrowed from CoH and CO.I'm curious about DCUO but any Super hero MMO would have to look to CoH as the shining example right now. CO isn't doing well at all. If you're going to try to make a super hero MMO, they need to look at CoH, see what it does right (which is a lot.) See what it does wrong, (Not much, though the things that are wrong in this game are pretty glaring) and work to improve on CoHs formula.
I mean this MMO is 7 years old and still generating new content that's as good or better than the content before it, most MMOs arent generating content at all going into it's 7th year (wow being an exception as well). So if DCUO isn't taking pages from CoH's book, who knows.
DC Does have a very established community of fans though, man of whom are gamers and they get to advertise for free in all their own comics, so there will be some interest there. However I think it could be good for CoH, people might get into DCUO because of the DC name, not having gotten into MMOs or a Super hero MMO, and then hear about CoH and come over and join us! -
Hold on, I think I busted a gut.

Quote:That's something else, too. The Cape saves that store owner, and the Secretary of Prisons or whatever his position was, both found out his name, and yet they never show anything on the news about "the mysterious vigilante known as 'The Cape'." Our own "real-life superheroes" get more publicity.I think The Cape needs to fight some more random thugs just to establish a rep with the locals. Better to have a street full of friendly eyes than having to rough up a few thugs every time you need info.

Quote:Yeah, I mean, I know my statement was a "well duh" statement. I guess what I'm seeing is they're (the community anyway) almost grasping for staws trying to find reasons to support their beliefs (read: wishes) that our game is dying. Maybe I'm just biased, but it seems like when our community "knocks" one of the other it's more..."logical" I guess.Well realistically all companies want their competitors to fail (although most are not so blase to say it out loud). I'm sure the Paragon Studios team sacrifice a chicken every so often to try and ensure the failure of their competitors (and by sacrifice I mean eat for dinner).
For example, I made a comment how our servers have been in the yellow or better for the most part since GR launched, and the response I got was something to the effect of "while it's possible there's more players, it's more likely the devs scaled the server's maximum load back to cope with losing players, thus making it appear as though there are more players than before" (paraphrased).Seriously? Remind me, who's going F2P because they're hemorrhaging subscribers again?
Quote:I wonder if the 2nd competitor's forum auto-logs people out spontaneously and without warning or mercy. -
"Eeeey BooBoo, that guy's stealing the mayor's picanic basket!"
I hope that new Super Booster (judging by the eagle) is coming with some bird-based chest emblems.
Also on the topic of CoH vs. other superhero MMOs, if you look on the 2nd competitor's forums, they seem to really want CoH to fail. Thought that was interesting. -
It wasn't bad. The acting was a bit....uhhh.....cheesy at some points. Almost like they were trying too hard to be superheroes and supervillains. Yes, Christian Bale's demon Batman voice is corny too, but even with that he seems more believable. I was waiting for Chess to to start wringing his fingers or stroke the back of a cat while laughing manically "now I shall rule all of Palm City, and there's nothing you can do to stop me! MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!"
I also have to echo the sentiment that it seemed like it was pacing itself too fast. They had two whole hours to go more in-depth with the plot and character development. That's more time than most movies. Every now and again, especially in the :30 min to 1:30 part, I felt like I was missing something because of how quickly they leaped over/through stuff.
And also the CGI cape was stupid and obviously-fake-looking. The guy also spends an inordinate amount of time with his hood/mask off, and yet no one seems to notice who he is. I guess the people of Palm City are as stupid as the people in Metropolis.
Those are just the bad things I caught on, and I'm sure (if given time) those things will be ironed out. As others have said, it has potential. And I'm pretty much automatically sold anyway due to the fact that it's a superhero show. I look forward to next week's episode. -

At least they're trying to stop crime, rather than support it (or ignore it). Which is more than most people will do (see: instances of people getting mugged and bystanders laughing and taking cell phone videos/pictures).
I used to think these guys were ridiculous, but the more I've seen them on the news and the more I've seen my hometown go down the crapper, the more I start to think these guys might be on to something.
I find it funny however, that everyone seems to be blaming (for lack of a better word) Kick-*** for this "movement". To me, it seems more like Kick-*** just brought these real-world superheroes into the light. -
Okay. I have more characters, but these two are pretty much all I play at the moment.
EDIT: And as you can see, I never did edit Knight'Hawk's name when I switched servers. Oh well, in the backstory I had written on him prior to joining CoH, he's "Nighthawk"; in CO he's "Night'hawk"; and in DCUO he'll probably be some form of any of those. -

Quote:I could've sworn when they first announced this series it was going to just be a short side arc, rather than an on-going series. Not that I'm necessarily complaining. It'll give me something to replace Batman and Robin with.Batman: The Dark Knight #1:
Mediocre start with a mediocre cliffhanger at the end... the story so far leaves me questioning why they haven't just used Zatanna which would be a nice look into their relationship instead of introducing this new character that is more or less a hack character with her name being Dawn Golden and her father's name being Aleister and series supposed to be more about the paranormal events that Bruce encounters... If I were new to reading comics or had never heard of Batman, I'd likely not pick this up.
I'm just glad the art is a lot better than the cover lead me to believe. -
The Republic Commando series was pretty good, at least through Order 66. Haven't read Imperial Commando just yet. The Darth Bane novels are frakkin awesome. Legacy of the Force; I liked it. Most people I've talked to about it hated it, but that wasn't the case for me.
Some of the Pre-PT stuff isn't bad (Cloak of Deception, Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter, and Outbound Flight), but the Clone Wars series so far has been crap. I don't know if these two books are really that good, or if Shatterpoint and Cestus Deception sucked that badly, but I actually enjoyed the two Medstar books. I'm actually considering skipping Jedi Trial and Dark Rendevous.
I mentioned this in the sci-fi book thread, but right now I'm reading the Lost Tribe of the Sith e-series (is that a word yet?) and so far through 1 book and 2 chapters of the 2nd I'm enjoying it. Somehow it's supposed to tie into the Fate of the Jedi series. Gonna probably start the new TOR novel after I'm done with these. -
I got a Kindle for Christmas as well, and loving it. I started with all 5 e-books of the Star Wars: Lost Tribe of the Sith series. They're all free.
Also grabbed Star Trek: Countdown, a couple Starfleet manuals (yes, seriously), and another book that'll remain nameless so as to not start anything. Next paycheck I'm looked to add the Star Trek: Typhon Pact novels, and possibly the EVE Online novels. -
No, it's from the 29th, as it has Batman: TDK listed as well. It may be that it was slated to come out this week, and ended up being next. Or maybe a typo. I've had that happen before. Saw a comic was out one week, and found out it was actually the next.

Haha, wow we must've just posted around the same time.

I picked up Batman: TDK, and since I missed last week I also snatched Batman Inc. #2. Both were pretty good. I was relieved to see the art on TDK wasn't as bad as the cover looked. Can't wait for next week, since the now on-going Batman Beyond story will kick off. -

I do have this friend that's a closet nerd, and while I've tried to nudge our relationship beyond that, she doesn't see me that way. She's probably the only person that could put up with me in that capacity, at least longer than most females I've met or had a relationship with.

I haven't had any loading problems myself, or at least not in the way you're describing. I get the occasional long wait, but everything runs smoothly most of the time (I actually have more issues loading the main page, than the forums). My biggest problem, is I get logged out at least once every other day or so.

Quote:I was just thinking that myself, but 3 of y'all beat me to it.You guys ought to put these stories in the Rude Tells thread.
