Quote:I don't care who takes it and who doesn't take it. It's actually in my own personal favour if I only see 1 in 8 Scrappers with it. 7 of them are only going to be pants with it anyway. It's just the same with Taunt on tankers, just because you have it doesn't mean a thing.I will, therefore, continue to skip Confront in my builds. As a result, I'm sure that once in a blue moon when Mercury is in trine to Mars, when Confront and Confront alone might have saved some calamity from befalling a team, I won't have it. I'll chalk it up on the same mental scoreboard where I note when Dark Miasma/Black Hole or Whirlwind might have been useful and we'll all get back to playing.
But what I do care about is having something taken from me. -
Quote:Alot of damage in teams can be excess anyway. You don't apply the exact amount of damage to the amount of hitpoints left and between team mates sharing targets that gets a bit more so.I suppose you'll make yourself seem like a good team player but you won't be as good a damage dealer as any of my Stalkers, Blasters, Dominators or Scrappers.
I am actually trying to be the real enemy in this thread.
One thing some of us Brits like to do is play the bad guy. I do so love playing Star Wars The Old Republic where most the baddies have strong British accents. You said I was the real enemy. I just playing up to it now XD.
I'll admit you are playing with fire here not thinking that a player with confront can dish out as good dps as you on any of your Scrappers or Stalkers. It's almost worthy of betting accounts on it. Confront doesnt have to get used in a DPS face off. My nephew farms with a Brute, with taunt and still lands stupidly godlike times. I could create anything I want in a single afternoon. Then take a couple of hours to Incarnate the snot out of it maybe still, in that, single afternoon.
I'm just having an unlucky day today, I took my dog to the vets, he's still there, gave blood and in driving home completely unaware of my speed probably got a speeding ticket. Dog at vets (concern) + giving blood not a good concoction.
Edited: Classic mistake of confusing Star Trek with Star Wars. -
Quote:That worse case scenario is a fail you do know that? Do you not see the order in which the team mates fell? Sometimes its a case of one of the team mates being a Keystone in the team support being dropped after which the rest may follow. If you bought some time for that keystone the rest may of been alright.Um a scrapper doesnt need confront to do any of the above. Worst case scenerio witha competent scrapper like say my forum handle's namesake a BS/Regen is I have 7 friends kissing dirt, cheering me on with a texted rendition of various "QUEEN" highlander soundtrack selections, then i use res other to get them back on thier feat and thank them for all the vengeance buffing they helped me with.

Quote:This is where you failed, on the first attempt. Coming up with the Nuke arrangement on attempt whatever didn't save the team at all. You all sucked, got indebt and that was that.Lol this is exactly what I point out every time to New Dawn but never get a response. None of her hypotheticals ever amount to anything but rescuing n00bs. I can rescue n00bs on my Blaster.
In fact, yesterday we had 2 Tankers, 1 PB, 1 Scrapper, an Emp and 2 blaster (one of those was me). I don't remember the setting of the mission, but practically everything was purple longbow (I'm thinking it was a tip mission, save Polar Shift, cave map with Longbow + CoT). Anyway, we come up to a spawn with 2 Warden Emps and they roadblocked us, killing us quite a few times with their forted up spawn. -
Confront can prevent a team wipe, save someone who is at a distance and pretty much help make everything doable no matter what the team make up.
-
Quote:Really though taking confront isn't even helping the team that much. Perhaps if it were a full on taunt... but all it does is take time that would be better spent hitting stuff to taunt a single target, when most fights will have enmies numbering in the 20's.
Let's say your taunt aura is the only thing keeping a cluster of mobs inside of a Rad defenders debuffs. The Rad defender isn't in there with you but there is one or two Critters going for it, range beats travel, one you might of used one range attack and the other you could use Confront. There are lots of circumstances.
All you've done is say something I have seen people say and yet disprove not only to me but themselves as a result ingame. Usually an attack may miss, actually even Scrappers on their tauntless Brutes don't tend to weigh up against their words either.
Some gauntleting + aura only Tankers prove their own limits to themselves eventually too. -
Quote:I don't think it matters if most Scrappers don't take it or if some Scrappers don't take it. The typical Scrapper needs something that helps "him" and works for "him". Most never give a toot about the team except when it comes to people that he feels should be supporting "him" and at the end of the mission despite buffed Blasters doing most of the DPS, success was largely down to "him" as he is "pro" and all others are mere spectators to his "awesomesauce". Then he might log on to the forums to discuss what he can do so that the sycophantic lemmings can just go "wow". He certainly appreciates the adoration.24 hours later (the servers crash due to every level 50 Scrapper respecing at once), problem solved.
I've seen a lot of Scrappers talk a good game without confront but never really give one. I think it might be because I am not "him", so things aren't about me. It's a good game because what mattered to "him" is the only thing that counts.
How many scrappers can say that theyre not all "me,me,me"? -
Quote:Blanket statements and actual truth do not tend to go together ever. You're not alone in making them, they happen almost all the time on these forums. No matter how many people might of told you in this thread that they have Confront alone you seem to ignore it and keep saying "no one takes it" which is a bit like "no one of importance cares for it". I do, and I find it fairly important as I am not someone playing a Scrapper just for the kills at all. It got your attention where all the people saying they had confront would not of. I might come across as talking bull myself but using swings and roundabouts there is some truth to it most often, most often because I do jump in and talk obvious crap when some joke thread is on.I made a blanket statement based on looking at builds and guides on this forum. My own experience, and granted I have not run Incarnate material yet as it wasn't around when I originally played this game and I haven't gotten a new char to that point yet, concurs with what I have read. That isn't either of the things you are accusing me of here.
I'm going to go back to what I said a bit ago: -
If someones done most of the work from which others have pretty much benefitted and adapted then it should be obvious to the OP. I do not like these competitions too much. Appropriate rewards for useful differences can mean a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place and so on which is kind of nicer than having someone copy someones build, change 1 slot, everyone to know its better and winning.

Quote:The holy trinity is blurry here. Lets say I am going to tank Ghost Widow with say a Fire/Fire Scrapper for a team of Blappers (that's blasters who don't do range really) why shouldn't I be able to? They'll probably run out of endurance and have to go rest if they haven't got blues and stuff but that is not a worry really. In every MMO I have ever played, I've always been the tank. I have played tanks for a long, long time in several different games, I know how the role functions, but I certainly will take your advice of "learning to play" under immediate consideration. Do you charge for this advice? If not you ought to consider making a career in it.

Quote:I am not a pleasant person. Do you read your statements. Can you guarantee that they are 100% true? Down in the Scrapper section Zyphoid atleast asked, the mere less than 1% of the player base that care to look in the Scrapper section. You are quite a pleasant person and your argument is very convincing.
How do your tanks appreciate having aggro taken from them when you taunt the AV they are tanking for the team? I'm sure they really love it when you do that on your Scrapper.
I am annoyed with anyone trying to remove a power that I have never ever not had since March 2005. That's 7 years and in those 7 years there have been a few others who have taken it and still have it.
I don't mind Brutes getting Taunt, I don't mind Scrappers getting Confront, that would be silly as I do not roll Brutes without Taunt or Scrappers without Confront. I'll tank with all of them as and when required.
If I am teamed with a Tanker then being a Tanker player I should realise that they've logged on to tank so aside from bits here and there I do what most people consider Bruting or Scrapping. If he's Tanking and not doing too well then I can only put it down to inexperience and quite frankly I think most people have to gain experience to lose inexperience. I may or may not try to take complete control, I may just do what they should of done. It maybe that against a particular AV a type of Tanker isn't the best foot forward lacking completely in Psi def and all and my Dark Armour Brute or Scrapper can take some/most/all of the weight. Not necessarily full time but part of the time. If a Tankers worried they can ease up on their threat and allow me increase mine in order for me to bear things instead.
I don't live in a world where I never needed confront and am too stupid to realise all the times where someone that I have teamed with might of thought after being held or planted "If only she had confront" because I have always had confront. -
All of my approx 8+ Scrappers have Confront. I can build Scrappers for ST, AoE DPS plus survivability and they still can afford to take it.
I will then be able to PvP team if ever, tank the STF for people if ever, tank whatever from lvl 12 upwards and between then just generally make saves, saving people from that one last crucial hit or hold that can effectively remove someone essential to the team.
The Antimatter to the terminals bit, yep my first one of him I did that for people whilst nobody else figured out what the hell they were supposed to be doing.
I can always say to knee wobbly tanks "If you don't tank it, I will"
Also as a result of me, a few people I know have Confront on their Scrappers. People believe such things as "its the toggles that are end heavy" and such tripe, sooner or later you get someone who knows what they doing to convert them on it. -

I might just have more blasters than 99,9% of the population. Ofc someone could quite happily go make several new levels ones, but that's cheating.
Not one of them doesn't have their own concept.
Not one of them has their entire playstyle matching another.
Not one of them relies on the exact samethings for survivability or providing team support.
I wouldn't want to log into any of them and have them all be the same thing with different graphics. I liked soloing Frostfire with each of them and relying on different things to survive the ordeal.
Some people made a mistake with their powerset choices. That's usually what happens. Maybe there should be power trees within a secondary so that just because you made a Blaster with /Ice Manipulation doesn't mean that you can't equal /Mental Manipulation at defeating a GM.
It's too late probably to sort certain things out, to help people undo their powerset selection choices and if I am being honest, not worth it neither.
There are still Incarnate powers to come and those that prefer to do above and beyond expected things are likely to do the incarnate trials anyway. Let the incarnate powers sort things out. I'll image Omega to be the I Win Button people are looking for, just in different flavours. -
I never doubted for a second that it couldnt be done. Well done.

Quote:No I didn't see what you did but add some Monty Python logic to things. People are complaining now that /MM is stand out ahead of everything else and that rather than all sets getting buffed to /MM level /MM will get nerfed. Three years and /MM hasn't been nerfed so not likely. That argument means nothing.
If Grav wasn't buffed then why would it be now?
If Street Justice didn't exist then why would it now?
If Energy Melee wasn't nerfed then why would it be now?
etc etc
Just because something didn't happen in the past does not mean it cannot happen now. -
The first entries start from scratch, the second and third could be another set of eyes just taking the first which did most the work and making it better. The brain concentrates best on a job for only so long, a new set of eyes may easily come up with something missed. I find things a little bit unfair in ways. Taking the final build, discount how much of it looks the same as a previous but bear in mind that slots within a set can change. Then reward people appropriately for each completely new change worth adopting. I could take anyones build which is 95% of the work done, do 5% and go tada!

Quote:You mean here http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=200499 before Incarnates? On an unrelated note, couldn't the op just have reposted silverado's thread from a few years ago if he was just trying to prove a blaster could solo a gm.
Silverado was defense, -regen and DPS. Everytime.
Come to think of it, if MM wasn't nerfed then why would it be now? -
Quote:Given the average time of what most peoples Dark Extractions could survive for this could be closer to the truth and it maybe that they're still targetable and defeatable. So any polar lights spawned would have to be out for no longer than 30 seconds, and would have to be minion class.
I am not sure if the Devs could put time behind making something essentially cooler rather than for balance purposes and without seeing how far PBs are behind WS ingame we could be in a dangerous loop of repeating ideas that will never happen. All I know is forum people do not make up much of the player base at all. I could log into anyones server and ask if people know so and so from the forums, in help channel and have no reply from anyone.
As someone farming with my PB, the KB is a bit welcomed and not too hindering *ducks* -
If Rage only worked full strength on /SS powers this would be addressed. But Powers like Build Up work on powers outside their set too so complicated.
Quote:Footstomp? Needs to be nerfed but people are going to complain about the set's AoE capacity.
Quote:New Assassin's Strike? Too powerful but people hold this up as making up for *ALL* of the AT's shortcomings, not actually *FIXING* anything.
Seeds of Confusion, Carrion Creepers, half of Warshades, Drain Psyche...the list goes on, I'm sure but can't think of more. All of these throws off balance where it shouldn't. What you're doing isn't proving Blasters are capable, you're just latching onto one specific capability that going beyond its intended function which is sad. -
Quote:This, given past information that has possibly been lost to the archives, years before THBs join date, what is likely to happen is Mental Manipulation gets nerfed, then maybe every Blaster type recieves a shared buff.Yes, it is. Set and match. You say this like it's the easiest thing in the world.
Let's see:
Buff Darkness Manip
Buff Devices
Buff Electricity Manip
Buff Energy Manip
Buff Fire Manip
Buff Ice Manip
Buff X primary powersets (optional)
versus
Buff Blasters
Nerf Mental Manip (so that it's the same as the other secondaries)
Yeah, no.
I do think that alot of people don't care what Incarnates do. Unless you are soloing the Incarnate trial, it's gtfo the forums. I am personally not amazed. Everything is mathematical, as long as you know the numbers you don't always have to put it into practise, this doesn't always apply but it does apply to single targets exceedingly well.
Most people believe that the game is balanced around SOs, had an SO build done it then wow. Somethings that could of been done by a team of people on SOs, now have been done by a team of people with incarnates. It's a bit of a shame that what could of been done on SOs didn't get done but people are random in their thinking.
We'll never all agree on what is awesome. Just accept that some people are awesome to themselves in their own mind. This video served a purpose for Arcanaville asked for it but then Arcanaville could of worked it out mathematically and proved it. Still there is the theory and then there is the practical. -
I'll have a pop at this with my WS.

Quote:"Jack of all trades, master of none,Scrappers were described as being "generalists" that were good at soloing because they had good defense and good offense. They obviously were not jack of all trades, because they had limited control and no ally buffing.
Certainly better than a master of one"
One of my Scrappers has Confront, Manuevers, Assault, Tactics and Vengeance and a solid attack chain.
Another of my Scrappers has Confront, Grant Cover.
Power pools have always been there. Confront has always been there. The rules that players must follow have never been there. -
I would have to play one to enter this. I took the build threw out the rules and come up with something I would hope offers better pet survivability.
If you ran out of endurance, any pets alive would start being targeted. Also when it comes to keeping AoEs off of pets how difficult can that be at times? Getting pets out or not having them around is costly one way or another, add that to the total eps of the build and you could have a problem. Sure you can insp but then also if you can direct aggro onto you alone even in an end crisis you can use other insps so I would drop Omega for a taunt. Some of the slotting would look the same but I would change some of it for DPS sake.
Your def may still be 40% def but with say a Diamagnetic you can tohit debuff 5% also with you having the insp tray you could always pop a luck, speaking of which, with aggro drawn in your direction rather than the pets despite an end crisis 1 luck on you is better than lucks all round.
