This is all sorts of awesome! I'll be running RSFs much more regularly now, as that part was one of the more tedious ones in the Strike Force. How many times has the stupid tech gotten lost/not followed etc etc arg.

It isn't unless you have a group of friends you can just log in and shoot the crap with; it then becomes somewhat tolerable to enjoyable.
You can have fun in zones, I guess, but you definitely want you Fire/Regen or something survivable. -

Try to go for someone who can deal a lot of damage and/or can debuff or use hard controls (stuns/holds). Make sure they have a good travel power. Super speed/jump is good for just about anyone, fly is not suggested for melee people, and teleport is nice for escaping but not for chasing.
So basically, blasters/dominators/corruptors are good (since corruptors are kill stealers and getting the final hit is what matters for points), melee characters are good as long as they can move fast to keep up with people, and I wouldn't suggest trying a defender/controller/mastermind as only certain powerset combinations of those can be effective, and even then a FFA format doesn't favor them.
You want Phase or Hiber. Period. You'll die a lot if you don't have one of these. I recommend Phase as you maintain mobility.
If you're 'srs bsns' I recommend 43-60 points of KB protection.
Proc any ranged attacks you have. Neutrino Bolt for Corruptors can be 'proc-gunned' very well.
Tanks/Brutes can be serviceable as taunt bots, but again take Phase in your build.
/EM Blasters are still good, with Psy ruling the roost these days because of the massive damage that is delivered in delayed packets from 1,000 miles away.
You really do want SS/SJ for anything Arena related.

Zones are a FFA, there aren't any set rules outside of not abusing geometry exploits. -

Is TS and HD going to be off for these? I might copy a toon over if it's going to be a regular occurence.
Edit: If TS and HD are on I'll copy a Scrapper or Tanker over. If they're off I'll copy over an Emp or Therm.
Edit again: If you can fit Hiber or Phase or 42+ points of KB protect in your builds, those will all help. The latter might not be necessary in this setting, but better safe than sorry. -
