Villains being Heroic to save Game?

It isn't heroism, someone is going to frag the heroes while they are patting themsellves on the back for saving the world, and it may as well be my villains.
  2. MoITF was a breeze, Mo5th a success with a few close shaves.

    See you for MoMLTF tonight.

Sadly, I doubt the Devs will stick long enough to know.

Say a best-case scenario they figure a way to transfer the IP and data to another company/wealthy individual. They still need to get the legalese out of the way, which is probably going to take a [considerable amount of time.
If you're one of those 80 people do you just take a break for a few weeks, maybe a month or two or do you attempt to get hired by another firm?

As much as I'd love for this game to stay intact we should expect a new dev team if that does happen. I'd expect some of the engineers and lead devs to act as consultants though to get coding/lore/IP stuff transferred at an intellectual level.
  4. Sent you my namesake from an alt mail account, my own takes forever to attach apparently .

Oh gawd if we could have made Arena maps that would have been incredibly epic.

Yeah, them saying they are all looking for new jobs and such pretty much nailed it home. Going to offer to help TonyV and all though.

The one glimmer of hope is that he was mum on whether or not NCSoft will sell, so that's something. If they are willing to sell our little game might live, but with a different set of parents (Devs).
  7. I12 Arena settings, with tweaks for powers regarding damage, IOs etc.
  8. Contact @SuperJimmy, he was with Veil One in HVND and might have footage of him in or outside Arena events.
  9. 50 in between both accounts.
About 85% of them have all HP accolades + Demonic, nearly all of them have multiple purple, PvPIO and 5x LOTG 7.5 at the very least.
  10. Yeah I probably wouldn't start from scratch. Couldn't get the Anniversary badges, would have to re-grind thousand of badges, all my IOs...no thanks.
  11. Will keep this brief.
    • Was Dream Doctor lying about Ouroboros?
    • Did Manticore view Psyche as a life partner or just a distraction for his amusement?
    • Given Malta's secrecy, how do we end up meeting Director 11 (and Gyrfalcon) when it took weeks (if not months) of research to uncover Director 17?
    • Is Positron a Killer GM? If so who has bitten it the most in his campaign?
    • Is Indigo Crimson's daughter or a real good friend?

Since you didn't specify this was a TF setting, I have any number of Colds, Rads, Times at your disposal.
  13. GReat stories, all the best to the new couple and couldn't help but chuckle at the "Aid Self" question but hey, you had a chance few of us did so full credit for chasing that dream.
  14. Keeping my ViP on both accounts would be sweet beyond compare...if that doesn't happen hopefully I can keep use of IOs and so on from vet status at least.

Laughed a lot when I read this.
We had a similar vibe on Infinity with Cirque de l'Ombre, all Mind Dominators with a different secondary.

Awesome stories and whether or not the game closes in three months, the geek table talk/MMORPG are what will really matter.

Just from my foggy memory, Mishii has worked in the industry before so she probably has some "wire info". Now, it's fair to exercise doubt about what anyone here says or does, but I'd definitely keep an ear (eye?) open in this case.

That means we are not the same entity when we are inside a mission as when we are outside. And that means powers that "do not stack from same caster" WILL stack if you apply them outside, then go inside, then apply them again.

A friend of mine used to love to exploit that bug: it was a ritual for her when running teams to tell everyone to wait outside the door, then she'd buff everyone with force fields, then we'd all go inside, she'd tell everyone to wait at the door for everyone to zone in, and then she'd buff us all again. For a brief period, we were all totally unhittable (and this was long before I7 and base tohit normalization, so that ultrahigh defense meant something).
I used to do this all the time (and still do unless they fixed it?). Thought this was working as intended, pretty sure you could stack Fortitude and other stuff as well.

Heard about that one from XFunk, he knew the map glitches and would transfer from server to server to "bounty" people to keep their farms alive. Hahaha, good times. =)
  19. Don't know if it ever went "wrong" but there were some things going against it:

    1)Enhancement System:
This is the primary complaint I get from new players, they have no freaking idea how this works. It's easier with the color coding and such, but how many of each, which ones are better and the necessity of changing them every five levels appears burdensome.

    2)Contacts unclear until recently:
In other games if you need to meet "The Big Tree" you get an arrow pointing down to it. Here you didn't, you had the waypoint system of course which is some help but a visual indicator around the contact would have been useful much sooner in the game's lifespan.

3)No "real" endgame outside of Hamidon for some time:
People got to 50 then either rolled an alt or unsubbed. The PvP was decent enough as an alternate endgame system.

4)Not enough "Outside" tasks and "Automatic loot acquisition":
Another complaint I've heard ad nauseam, no one is outside completing tasks, you don't need to click on mobs to get items so it cuts a lot of "downtime" between tasks. With no real inventory outside of Enhancements and Inspirations prior to Base Salvage, friends never got the impression they were gaining anything material for their efforts, shrugged and unsubbed.

    5)It's a Niche:
Let's face it, Supers are a nice and though CoH did this quite well it got its market split three ways when Champions and DCUO came out.

A big hammer blow was City of Villains as well. People got split and with no way of switching sides until MUCH later (this should have been on the table as soon as split zones came through), you had people disbanding teams to play on one side or another, then many gravitated toward the hero side leaving redside a barren wasteland.

CoH is a fun game but it had a ton impeding it. Thankfully they had a TON of good stuff too, but probably not enough to make it anything more than a fun niche game you play in between breaks from other games.

    Not Goodbye

    Few of my favourites:

52 HO bug. As a hero you went to the Hive on a 50, got your hit then got a level 1-5 to MAL you, out came a 52.

As a villain, complete LRSF, keep menu up and go to Warburg and click. It lowered your character level enough you did not need the MAL and got a 52.
Think Team Web did this enough to stock a whole bin or two with 52s.

    Mission Map bugs:

Arachnos "square entrance": You know those maps that you enter than can go left or right and it forms a square? One of the early 40s contacts (might have been a Patron) sent you to one of these and the SAME salvage would drop (Platinum) from the SAME mob, over and over. It was eerie. So one time I just did this about 50 times, got 50 Platinum and made 50 million which was not bad in the day.

Dr. Aeon mission in STF: The one in Cap au Diable. There was a map hole next to the AeonCorp building, you could just teleport under it, then recall the whole team and you'd be "under the world" and attack GMs with impunity rofl. Easier Master run EVER.

Eden trial: There was a map hole in the Rock Wall, to the lower right of the wall. You could teleport squeeze through it and then just recall everyone at the Crystal Titan and boom! done in 7-10 minutes. Especially handy when Recipe rolls happened with the trial.

The Hive: Map glitch around center-west area. You could again squeeze through and attack Hamidon with impunity, awesome to grief ongoing raids hehehe.

Steel Canyon University: When the geometry was in place for the badge (Inventor?), but not enabled ingame, you could just fly over the War Wall and down under the map and do all the clicks to get Inventor.

Atlas Park Confuse Bug: This isn't really a map bug. You got on your Energy Blaster, got a PermaDom on the other side to Confuse you (lasted like hours), then zoned into AP and NUKED EVERYONE UNDER THE GLOBE!

    AE Exploits:

These are well-known and all patched, so whoop de do.

Green Mitos: They never fought back, populate caves and get tons of xp.

Rikti Monkeys: Set them below level 35 and they gave an inordinate amount of xp.

Rikti Portals: Just tag them all for tons of xp.

Omega Maneuver: Set a map (Grandvile beach is ideal) full of AVs, populate with Omega Manuevers and pop a bunch of lucks, tag the AVs and let the OM kill them, 2-3 levels per run

Mastermind pet feature: Summon your pets OUTSIDE of AE, then set the mission to level 6. You KEEP your pets at level 50 and they just kill EVERYTHING, again tons of sweet, sweet XP and mass amounts of inf. Got at least 5 50s before that was patched haha.

I remember this vividly since the following (or a variation thereof) showed up in Alliance X chat:

AllianceX: XFunk: I've just got my 18th 50 and I need to work in 3 hrs. Someone make me stop Xploiting.

Fire Imps: Same idea as the Rikti Monkeys, they just conned as Underlings or whatnot but gave boatloads of xp.

Assorted Buggy Shenanigans of Fun (AKA Features):

Think /debugmode1 (or was it /debug1?) allowed you to get a list of Dev commands, as well as extra costumes.

Market/Reward Merit Server Lag exploit: At the start, you could get X Reward Merits (think it was 25) and just CLICKCLICKCLICKCLICKCLICKCLICK on the "Random Roll", the server would try to process all your ticks and cough up recipes like they were jellybeans!

The trickier one was with the Went's interface itself. You put an item up for sale, then clicked "Get" or whatever it's called. If you did it quickly enough in succession you could pop back 5 or 6 duplicates.

Nemesis Mole Machines in Black Scorp's second arc used to grant HUUUUUUUUGE amounts of xp. Now they took forever and a day to kill, but getting a level or close to it for each Mole Machine made it worth it.
Now they give squat and since it's the last mission in the arc you can't complete it (iirc) so I never even do the second arc.

Snake Eggs in Operative Grillo's mission conned as Elite Bosses/AVs. They were fragile as their real-life namesakes, however, so you could just crack them and get a TON of xp, I think 5-6 bars per egg. I remember this fondly because good ole PsyPunk RAGED on the Beta forums when someone got invited to a team on test farming these (PvP still occurred on Test so that was a PL strat) and got ratted out. Hilarious.

Recall Friend abuse: TPing lowbies from the top of Atlas into thin air, not fun.

    Teleport Foe abuse:

Stalkers chain TPing noobs into the little guard towers in Siren's, which as we know had no exit port. You were basically toast. They added an exit hatch from those (and in PvE too, where a jerk could Recall you into the ones in Terra Volta with no escape) afterwards.

The Mitochondria in Lady Grey's task force had NO Teleport Resistance. So...you got a Blaster with Boost Range or just anyone and TPd them out of the goo to be beat on mercilessly away from their compatriots. Got fixed a while ago. Nice stuff on Master runs as that was the hardest part of the tf.

RWZ Intro Ouro Bug: Alright this one was a little more complex, but basically you got a TON of xp for doing the "talks", each "Talk" would give around AV xp so you just perma zoned and did this for hours for some quick levels.

Level 1 SK Bug: So...when bridging existed, you got your level 46 and then got a level 1-3 on the team and it artifically "bumped" the level so you got a ton more xp.

That's the basic stuff I've allegedly been through/done.

What I love most about this game? So many broken ways to advance and get loot and the community rocks.

I quickly realized that, as there were a couple of multi-part missions that started with you talking to an NPC, which in turn gave you a small influence/prestige/XP reward. So you could park yourself next to the NPC, talk to them, abandon, call your contact again to get the mission again, talk to them, and repeat on and on.

So I filed a bug report and that got shut down in the next patch.
This worked super well if you in a Cathedral of Pain mode in a supergroup, since it locked your missions. Infinite xp.
  22. I almost gave away all my purples/pvp IOs but someone reined me in.
Certainly would never delete anything I put time into, whether it's an MMO character or personal writing or whatnot.

    Good advice Tony!
  23. My namesake, a Mind/Bubbler created at the end of Issue 3. I had no freaking idea how the play the game, enhancements were haphazard until a real life friend told me how to slot and so on. I quickly learned how disgusting Confuse powers were and I endeavoured to get all badges on here that I could (sadly at 1081 that isn't likely to happen) including Masters (have all but MoM due to the GMs not falling into place). The first costume had a face veil, pink hair, yellow mask, blue tights...it was ALL over the place. Then it was purple hair and blue tights until finally she got a reboot around Issue 9 and became a Golden Age blonde bombshell in silver and gold tights.

I don't play her much these days except to get new badges but she has all Hybrids at T4, all Destiny at T4 and a judgement, Interface, Alpha and Lore or two at T4 as well. That's not even mentioning the purples and other gear.

The screnshots have been taken and saved on my hard disk already, it's going to suck not being able to play her.

My second "main" would be Spirit of Kings Row, a Kat/Regen Scrapper on Pinnacle whose backstore includes her house being waylaid by a rampant Clockwork Paladin and then taking to the streets to defend her hometown. She always logs out in Kings Row, next to Blue Steel, and always offers to help low-level heroes in that zone. She really wanted the new Kings Row badges .

I guess my last "main" would be Relentless Pursuit, a Mind/Fire Dominator on Infinity. Well over 110% global recharge plus Hasten. She and Relentless Desire (Mind/Psi Dom) recently duoed Lord Recluse Strike Force, Lady Grey Task Force, Imperious Task Force, Master of Tin Mage Task Force and so much other stuff. The Relentless Girls (Lust, Pursuit, Desire) had their own supergroup and would wreak havoc on all sorts of stuff until Lust left the game forever.
    • Was Dream Doctor telling the truth about Ouroboros?
    • Who or what was Jocas?
    • Did Manticore view Psyche as a plaything or an actual life partner?
    • Why do we meet Director11 and Gyrfalcon of Malta (outside of gaming boss tropes) when these are generally highly secretive about their identities?
    • Any regrets over banning people over AE?
    • How were Going Rogue and Praetoria perceived internally? Did enough players use the content to make it worthwhile?
    • Is Positron a Killer GM in D&D?
  24. Secret World will be mine. Shotty Mario and I will be migrating and shooting zombies while strengthening conspiracies, so far it looks like your typical "Powers with cooldown click" combat but seems RP focused story-line wise, and the skill system is...different. The game takes place in real-life locales like New York, Egypt, Japan, Transylvania and so on.

I'm going to try it at least.
