Thank you for the patch and the notice Ex Libris.

Because coming into the PvP forums to sour the decision of a community you are not a part of actively is just silliness.
[/ QUOTE ]
Manchu I agree and I am staying out of this personally...but I recall the whole "Which is more popular" polls where people logged in multiple accounts to vote for PvP.
I think it's disingeneous of Ex as a community rep to ask the community to pipe down as a whole on this issue, especially since votes can't really be locked out.
I imagine many people will be voting for Freedom or Infinity or Virtue as they are high pop servers where PvP is very popular.
Ultimately, from my understanding though, Test Server is where the big boys play, so any live transfers may end up being more complicated than just transferring there.
This pool would have been better placed in the PvPEC forums, which are closely monitored and where voting would have been more representative as a whole imo.
All the best.

Hi Red...I was looking for stats on Inspirations of all things and couldn't find them.
Specifically the attributes for Strength of Will and Emerge inspirations.
The site is invaluable by the way, I use it daily. -
I miss "Behind the Mask"
I enjoy the arena section but I wish there would be topics addressed like inspiration management, builds and so on.
I PvP on a low-pop server and it's fun but it doesn't prepare you for getting rolled on test. -
Damn the 5th would have been nice....but the new Rikti War Zone is all kinds of fantastic. Lots to do and even more to see!
The issues are become more dynamic instead of the old mision rote and this too is a credit to the Devs...and hey, didn't the beloved Arcanaville suggest something akin to a plane rescue mission (Saucer raid) in her suggestions to Crytpic awhile back?
-
Hey I just read this.
I dropped Pulsar from my all-human ages ago...it just wasn't doing enough for me. Like many others I haev Acro in there as well...I tool the two click heals, Quantum Flight, Shining Shield from the secondary and Dawn Strike, Incandescent Strike, Glinting Eye and Photon Seekers from the Primary (I may have the small punch too)
She's a lot of fun right now, level 34 and going strong! -
This was an awesome weekend.
I got a majority of my heroes and some villains levelled up in anticipation of whatever those crazy developers have in store for us with Issue 10 (Seems to be high 30s content from the blurbs).
I wouldn't want this all the time though, I'd just level too quickly and lose interest with the game, basically.
Servers were stable and not much lag, so I'll give this an A!

Advice from the X's column:
Absolutely pricless!
Good work all around for the rest as well. -
I use your Web Planner all the time, it's a great tool.
-
I gave it a 4 out of 5.
I really enjoy the States task force...it can be run fairly quickly and it's fun all around.
I love the Consignment house and crafting system. Inventing is unobtrusive and lets you improve your heroes and villains in ways that make you subtly different from other players with the same archetypes and powersets.
I love the QOL changes as well. Stores in Kings Row and trams to Founders' and south Skyway, bravo!
Dislike the new Hamidon encounter...why go to all that trouble when I can do States for the same reward?
Also dislike paucity of costume drops...in the hundreds of hours I have played since issue 9 launch, I've received all of two drops, identical, being rocket boots. No wings, no temp powers, nothing else.
Please increase the costume drop rates! -
Very good once again.
Love the horoscopes and Behind the Mask.
Ask the Entities was good too. -

The game was successful from the start due to the gimmick, the audience that it appeals/appealed to. PvP can be a big draw if it is promoted and maintained - unfortunately, the pvp in this game hasn't received either of the two, promotion or maintenance - aside from promotion done by the playerbase.

QFT.
I will probably never be more than mediocre in an Arena setting but I have been having lots of fun in the zones with my Defender/Support toons lately.
This game has an insane PvP engine in whichever format you prefer. That the Devs haven't made some clips of the PvP action (Hey, here's an idea...take snapshots of the high level matches and the zone stuff this coming week...) to advertise the game boggles the mind.
And this is coming from someone is as far from hardcore as Beijing is from Reykjavik. -

Geek friends of mine used to have fun going to late-night restaurants and engaging in absolutely meaningless, but very animated gibberish conversations as they ate, just to watch the faces of the people who were listening in. It became a little game (they were actors) to keep the voice and tone totally serious while stringing together absolutely meaningless phrases- and responding appropriately.
Now they just post on gaming forums.
[/ QUOTE ]
Couple of my friends and I used to do that except not about games... about sex... with made up gibberish words.
[/ QUOTE ]
Hehehe I was with some friends in Ohio, one of them is a lesbian and the other a run o' the mill dude...and the girl friend kept going on: "So does the taste of this remind you of anything?" and then we'd suddenly break into RPG talk.
You'd see a lot of ears perk up then and there.

A camel is a horse designed by committee.
[/ QUOTE ]
well said. and where are the committees and red names for all the other broken stuff and interest groups here?
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually, they're coming.
Ex Libris mentioned that she was taking what she had learned from the PVPEC when she begins forming committees for other player communities. I believe, however, that the thread where she said this has been deleted as it became a flame war.
Her post itself should still exist in the community digest somewhere, but I am too lazy to go look.
[/ QUOTE ]
To be perfectly honest why do we need committes at all?
People can team, pvp, game and whatnot without direction from above...and there will always be dissent when people are chosen without a methodology being presented.
I mean there are so many things possible...task force committees, badge hunting committes, costume committes, low-level committees, crafting committees...it just gets all compartmentalized and causes division, especially if the committees are outside public view.
With all due respect of course. -

Nerfing the powers would be an injustice to the time I spend on a daily basis prepping for my RSFs.
[/ QUOTE ]
Creating an event that puts players in the mindset that they NEED to spend time daily farming temp power loot is an injustice to all of us that find any kind of farming abhorrent.
[/ QUOTE ]
The thing is though that not all missions and tasks are created equal.
The LRSF and States TF and Hami are tasks that require preparation and planning and various amounts of teamwork.
You don't need Shivans and Nukes for say...Faathim's TF (though our team on Pinnacle did use them to make it easier...beating Lanaru is 5 minutes through Shivans/Nukes is sweet) but for the LRSF and so on, why not?
It's not fun for the new player or casual player I am sure to have to get them, that's my only issue with that.
But there needs to be some delineation of what a PuG can accomplish and harder tasks that require preparation of some sort.
My hero SG is levelling some stone tanks, rads and we are gathering nukes and Shivans for the upcoming States TF. Whether or not those will be sufficient, who knows.
The Devs are on the right track with the final encounter of the States TF (Recluse and towers). This makes the encounters more than:
-Bag of hit points with high regen and stupid attack numbers.
I think most games with high end content have raids or whatnot that require certain items... -
[ QUOTE ]
Besides, b/f this change was implemented I'd want proof that the devs could design an encounter that would be interesting over several minutes, not just a bag of health where you cycle the same attacks until the health is no more. The "8000 blades of grass" does a good job of masking this shortcoming IMO.
[/ QUOTE ]
I think the Eden and Hydra trials heroside do this. You have to accomplish several goals in order to complete the missions.
The new Hamidon trials are also there, requiring concerted teamwork to complete.
The devs are getting a little better in these areas.

1) You have the default To Hit value (ie no buffs), your target has no Defense value. How often do you WANT to hit him? Conversely, as the defender, how often do you expect to be missed?

I dunno Thorizdin, I can remember long fights off the top of my head since they have been so few.
Usually you get spiked within 30-40 seconds of entering an Arena map or zone, then you run or hope your support can keep you alive.
I would get a lifetime, yearly sub to this game if fights happened where it took close to the length of a 10 minute match for one kill to be scored. Or if fights were actually two people squaring off and pounding on each other until you at the keyboard got exhausted or it just got so boring you flipped a coin or something lol.
Unfortunately, thanks to all the unresisted stuff there isn't much that could lead to that unless you're playing an Ice/EM tank or something similar. :/ -
I gotta agree with PsyPunk here.
When the PvPEC was created the dedicated, hardcore PvPers were pretty happy (though there was a few splits) that PvP was getting attention.
We keep hearing about a big event a story arc thing...I gotta ask...huh?
If there's one thing about Paragon City and the Rogue Isles, they're very static. Faultline changing is the biggest change I can remember. So how is a multi-month PvP event going to alter my contacts, my missions, my story arcs, my experience gains and so on?
If you want to create a backdrop to it fantastic, go to it...but consider all the PvPers here.
Give the hardcores stuff to do on Test and here.
Give the 'every now and thens' something to do as well.
Make some events that involve non-50s...not everyone has a stable of 50s to choose from.
How about some teasers like what we had for Hamidon or Inventions or whatnot?
Because right I know I do PvP occasionally and I organize on my server but if something big is happening concurrent to Issue 9, would be nice to see some 'ads'. -
Is the Event going to be on Test Server or will this be a concurrent event on live?
-
Can we get any idea of the rewards...are these going to be game-time cards, video cards, in-game and board titles, OR:
PvP only accolades that give an Endurance, Health or Accuracy/etc boost earned through the event and usable in the Arena/Zones (similar to items of power).
You said "PvP oriented rewards", what are these exactly.
We aren't really hearing much about the event, rewards, ideas...so far. Is there positive stuff going on?
Also, I assume Issue 9 will be launching in Mayish...will the first event be concurrent with Issue 9 release?
-

One thing I keep reading is that 'PvPers are not loyal' and 'they end up going to other games.' This may be true however it is mainly due to the lack of support from the devs, I mean they haven't even fixed what we play this game for since i4? What if you couldn't get any badges since i4, would you still play?
[/ QUOTE ]
Well...the Devs gave the PvPers the Arena and the ability to PvP...outside of new powersets and accolades to add spice to the mix, what else do you need really? You have your tools. They've added zones as well to draw neophytes and Accolades to help performance.
Honestly, I started with issue 5 and if there hadn't been new badges added I'd still be here...because there has been other content added. New zones, new missions, new contacts, villainside...it's still enough to keep me happy and busy for a long time.
But...that's me...I don't ask for much outside for what I'm given, I tend to make my own fun...part of being an only child I'd imagine. -
Oh Mieux I concur with your point but man am I chomping at the bit for the auctions...it's a whole mini-game where I can analzye, project, bid, overbid, underbid, coax and barter and lose myself for hours...and it lets me get some influence for my alts as an aside.
I have a buddy in Toronto...he's a day trader. Sometimes he gets a tip and can clear an extra $50,000 CDN in an afternoon. Sometimes he loses that $50,000 CDN.
But the most fun he has? When he gets that deal before one of his friends does; when he can zoom in on a hot item and profit.
I'm not "EvilGeko" (or is it Gordon Gekko)esque on the topic...but the Auction house will grab me and hold me long after my last pvp battle will have done so.
-
I hear you Incursion.
I believe that inventions may kick PvP a kickstart again. There will be new builds, new addons and new strats around what type of sets people have...or it may just turn out that a certain set is required and everyone goes toward that.
I don't mind the PvP so much in this game when the fights are lengthy...I am getting my SG on another server its feet wet with PvP next month in the Arena, we'll see how that goes.
Edit: I guess what screws me over is that I really have a concept for my characters when I build and they end up semi-borked in PvP...my Sonic Defender will probably be useful but the Dark Blast may not be.
