  1. Aaaah thanks much Sevenpenny!
Works fine now, let me know ingame if you need help on Champion or Pinnacle =)
  2. How long does this take to update to your live account?

Apr 14, 2009 XXXXXX8 City of Heroes® Super Booster II: Magic $9.99 (USD)
Apr 14, 2009 XXXXXX3 City of Heroes® Super Booster II: Magic $9.99 (USD)

And still no emotes, inherent power or costume sets.

    *sad panda*
  3. Paragon Studios? More villain hate!!

Swanky...what does this mean for funding/employees/content? More, less, same?

    So many questions...
  4. Hall of Fame being loseable is ludicrous.

If you arc is good enough to be there it should lock as Hall of Fame, period. Heck, I've had trouble getting 100 ratings needed for the Accolade, I can't imagine getting 1,000 4-5 ratings (though maybe my historical arc will do that, who knows...).

They didn't take the Stones' HoF status when people started saying they sucked etc...no reason for this to be different, especially with the extra slot involved!

I want to reward good behaviour Brad.
I've been fair in my ratings; I've one and two-starred stuff that was horrible. I've three starred stuff where the effort was there but it needed help and I've five-starred stuff that was fantastic. Four stars is above-average but needs help.

I think...the disconnect with myself is that players are doing it for love of the game and to express their creativity. Given they aren't getting paid for it, you'll likely get a lot of original content while others just plug and plug because they want the awards.

And then there's canon. If you use States or a known NPC are you raising red flags? Are you better off just being original?

Ideally you want people to be original, use canon as a basis and the mechanics of the game to improve on the source material. It's nice when you get shorter, lighter arcs though.

As with everything, the good stuff will generate a buzz. So will the bad stuff, but it will be vultures hovering around the carcass.

And by that standard, anybody who picks something other than one of the standard pre-built costumes should win every costume contest they enter. And everybody who PvPs should always win. How high a standard do I want here? Melissa "War Witch" Bianco. If it's as good as anything she's written, it gets at least four stars, probably five, from me. No, I don't care how many hours of work you put into it. No, I don't care about your feelings; this isn't pre-school and I'm not your therapist and you don't get an A just for showing up.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Brad, have you read some of the content in game?
Dispari's Hollows arc is better than the current content from Wincott. Many of the missions pre RWZ/pre Faultline revamp are average to below average.

Stephanie Peebles: Defeat 10 Council, Rescue a Scientist, Clear out a warehouse, Defeat a Family Boss, etc.

Croatoa contatcs: Defeat some mobs outside, defeat all in a map, delivery mission, rescue.

The RWZ stuff is great, but only so in comparison to the large amount of tedious dreck in the game. Let's face it, the Dev's Choice stuff out there is better than the current content in many ways and may of the non Dev's Choice missions are better than some of the content available.

By the way, if you do write well, it's not "weeks." OK, my first story arc did take me 3 weeks to polish to maximum quality, but that was because I was still learning what the system could and couldn't do, what the various settings on objectives did, and so forth. My second story arc, which is currently averaging 5 stars, took me 15 hours to write, from initial inspiration through white-boarding the plot through initial construction and testing. Based on feedback from other players, I found an intermittent bug in the game and worked around it in less than an hour the next day. It only takes "weeks" the first time, if even then -- or else you can probably never do it at all.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Hmmm well, my arc got written out in under a day but then fiddling with mobs, settings, power levels extended that quite some time.

My next one is a beer&pretzels arc and will take far less time to produce. Agreed on your point about using the rating system as a flag though.

    [ QUOTE ]

This Green Dwarf controversy, though, is exactly why I've flat-out stopped sending feedback to anybody unless I know them personally until they find a way to anonymize it. Someone threatened me with a 1-star for giving his arc 3 instead of 5 stars on day one.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This is unacceptable but sadly prevalent.

I wonder how much less ratings shenanigans there would be if there were no badges or arc slots or whichever associated with HoF/DC... :/
  7. Thank you VERY much.

I'll continue to try and produce arcs that are fun and in some cases challenging as well. If anything, I (and others I am sure) would like an alternate way of obtaining the extra slot (1 in 1,000 people and repeated slots on the same user is a low quartile) even if those slots are capped per player.

The "For Your Consideration" section is also great and thanks for that.

This is a positive response from the Developers and Community Mods, thanks again.
  8. Agreed on many points Whataguy.
With a badge tied to Hall of Fame though, five and four-starring will run rampant until people get their badges.

I really don't want to sidetrack Venture's fine thread but I found Green Dwarf's arc delightful myself. It had a nice whimsy feel to it, pretty lighthearted too.

I guess...not every arc in the HoF is going to be Citizen Kane or Schindler's List or somesuch, just as not every HoF arc is going to be topnotch. HoF can just as well represent what a player did with mobs, tools, dialogue as well.

As for the vote-swapping, guess what it's happening outside of GD. I imagine it's going on every server. Each person has a limited pool of friends and all and there is a badge attached to it.

On my published arc I've had a harsh review, some good reviews and some great ones. Makes sense, it's not a fantastic arc but there are some good qualities to it (I hope).

HoF just isn't achievable and neither is Dev's Choice unless you're a practiced writer or you schmooze players or are the Dev's good side or catch their eye in a positive manner.

Honestly folks...this is an MMO. How high a standard do we want here? Most people aren't going to be putting weeks tweaking their arcs. If the story is good, the mobs acceptable in challenge and the whole is engaging it should be noted by both players and Devs.
  10. The only people that will get 2 Dev's Choice are those with previous Dev's Choice or outstanding writersor Dev favourites. Hero1 himself said it was like 'cheating' with some people.

The system is terrible. Look, my arc is average-mediocre-sometimes fun for people but if I tweak and tweak I have to get my sgmates to run it again, get my friends to run it again and I lose my ratings every time.

There's 10,000+ arcs out there. Even if I rate some of them kindly, they'll NEVER get HoF or Dev's Choice status.

Lower the reqquirements for HoF and Dev's Choice for crying out loud. Yes, yes, culture of mediocrity.

Look, it's an MMO. You're making money of making people feel they're superheroes instead off ordinary Janes and Joes taking time off from their jobs.

What's the point in doing really great arcs if no one notices? I played some fantastic stuff and it has two or three ratings, sometimes none. Very deflating, very discouraging and very tiring.
  11. I'd like to say Squid's arc is pretty awesome.
Varied objectives, nice writing, crisp action.
    Hope you enjoy it folks.
  12. Also /signed.

Not everyone has the same hearing capacity. Perhaps making glowies brighter somehow might help...

  17. I imagine the base one would be to check inspiration containers for Tier 3s...

Thanks for posting the new rules, hopefully we can get this stickied and update rankings as challenges occur.

What was *wrong* with it in the first place? Maybe they could reduce mez duration a little or perhaps limit it, DR was a good idea for IO bonuses...I dont remember it being that bad

    [/ QUOTE ]

The Devs didn't like that people practiced 12-15 hours a week and that hero lineups were:

    2 Fire/EM
    2 Emps
    2 Sonics
    1 Kin
    1 Rad/Psy

(Changer whatever for a FFer, another Kin, a Psy Blaster etc)

and that Villain lineups had their Fortunatas/Stalks/MMs/Corrs/etc.

Devs didn't like the idea of spiking, completely missing the fact that to spike correctly takes a team on Vent and practice.

Devs didn't like that Emps could heal a target from 5% to full with AP so they added suppression.

Devs didn't like that we ran around with SS/SB/IR/SJ and needed twitch reflexes to react, so in came movement suppression.

In other words, Arena teams were too structured and too defined and too narrow so they blew the whole thing to smithereens.

I13/I14 is what it is...hopefully kills can still be achieved and Phase is still useful
  19. Might have to drop from this or at least miss APril 18th.

If the PvP Ladder plays on Thursdays then I'll wish you all happy trails and gl hf.
  20. Grab Hank if he brings back storytime and plays drunk.

  22. My arc is almost done...oy vey on the last boss. And the spelling mistakes need to be fixed but the last boss may be too much solo..."Extreme" difficulty really is extreme.

    *sob*

I'll post the arc number by the end of the week, more tweaking required.
  23. Won't be doing anything with this until live but I have a villain arc written. Great idea though.
  24. Merit System (need a bit of tweaking)

Were purchaseable respecs, character slots and renames from 2008? That would be very high on my list as well.
  25. Once Architect goes live my Static team time may be going down as I'll be writing arcs, testing arcs and playing arcs in various ranges. I'll be there for Citadel next week.
