Quote:I've gotten this quite often over the years and it remains irrelevant to my argument."Former hotspots?"
... really?
The only real "social interaction" I've ever reliably seen at any Wentworths/BM consists of:
1. Gold spammer using local to push letmestealyourcreditcard.com services, and
2. the occasional "Wait, they didn't fix Scrapyard's pathing YET?" comment.
I'm defining 'hotspot' as 'a place in the game where you can find player characters'. What interactions you choose to have at that point are up to you- I usually browse costumes, read bios and compliment the ones I like, which occasionally leads to a chat of greater or lesser length.
Same thing I do in Pocket D (although Pocket D is just another instance in a game full of them) or Atlas with the difference that there are many market outlets in a variety of zones. I'll also note that Pocket D is reliably abandoned on many of the servers I play....unlike the markets.
Quote:Pocket D is a hotspot. The area under Atlas is a hotspot. I'd even call the hill in Talos a hotspot. Wentworths is only less of a hotspot than Bloody Bay at 3 AM on a Tuesday on most servers. People go to the auction house, open up the trade/enhancement/recipe window, do their thing and go. Any talking I tend to see done by someone in wents tends to be in global channels ("salvage prices are nuts,") not in local or broadcast. There's simply no history of interaction with other players directly there that's now missing to make it a "former hotspot."
Quote:That's right, be sure to discount all the other arguments and put down anyone disagreeing instead of actually taking the arguments into consideration. -

just ran the pilot episode of Transformers by my son- he approved.

Quote:I went through that battle a good while back, when they bumped mission XP to get people *off* the streets. =PGive an xp/reward bonus for outdoor mobs. Just like that, folks move outside to play, the hazard zones actually get a bit of use, and people will complain that it is unpossible to find mission teams anymore. The circle of CoX life.
I'm also one of the few people you're likely to meet who was against the AFK logout timer because I liked checking out all the people getting PL'ed at the train station in Bricks, so..... -
Quote:While I'm not exactly a hermit, the other day I ordered a pizza from Dominos instead of any one of a dozen other better tasting, higher quality delivery options in my town because their perfection of online ordering meant I wouldn't have to talk to a human being.I can only suppose that you have a higher tolerance for such things than other people who've posted in this thread, and/or are more pleased by the (virtual) presence of other players' avatars than displeased by how they act, considering it a net good.
I hypothesize that you may also enjoy large crowds and/or loud parties in real life? Because I, for one, do not (either).
True story!
But the inherent limitations of a game-verse, which seem to intensify many folk's annoyance and irritation with their fellows, makes it easier for me to accept the foibles and mishaps inherent in most social interactions.
I cut my online gaming teeth running Counterstrike servers, and as the saying goes evil hive of scum and villainy etc etc. The only people I've reported in 8 years of play are RMT spammers and people spouting racism in broadcast. Most of the behavior I see people complaining about I find amusing, if not downright endearing.
IRL I value my privacy and am likely to avoid seeing movies on the weekend because I'd rather not deal with a crowd. In game, I love seeing other players, checking out their characters & feeling like I'm hanging out in an actual City of Heroes rather than City of Instances. -
my interest in making inf has outlived the purchase of everything I ever 'needed' in the game- thank goodness the 88's give me something to do with it all!

Quote:Well, it *is* a much needed INF sink, with the bonus feature (from my perspective and apparently no-one else's on the planet) that it would incentivize use of Wents/BM and improve the social ambiance of those former hotspots. Before I opened the thread, I thought the idea was going to be a much-needed INF sink.
I'd back -- and pay -- a fee to assist in the destruction of INF, to fight inflation. Even though it would affect a vet reward. But I'm not so sure the stated idea of WW as a social site would result.
And I have said things in WW not related to money or begging an Oro portal. Mostly complimenting neat concepts and costumes of people I see there.
I wonder how much more support the idea would receive if I re-framed as a pure inf sink, as the most vitriolic responses hail from the God Forbid I Ever See Another Player In The Wild, They Might Have Rabies! crowd.
Quote:I'm so close to that reward tier with the /ah, OP. Don't mess that up for me.
Quote:but you see, Bright, Nethergoat seems to believe that enduring the insensitive, lazy and/or annoying behavior of fellow players is "socializing."
also, see Arcanaville.... -
heading down to the garage later to find my Licensed to Ill & Paul's Boutique LPs for a listening party tonight.

Quote:the need for disclaimers like this are, in a nutshell, why I've abandoned mainstream superhero comics.Just to be clear here, this is Earth-2.3, that is its not the original Earth-2, nor the previous version.
Well, aside from the occasional self-contained graphic novel... -
I've been working my way through the lowbie arcs in your suggestions thread- so far so good!
I'll check out a few of these when I have a little spare time. -
I'll have a bundle to dump on the InfCinerator once I get this whole 'convert merits into things to change cheap junk into pricey junk' deal worked out.
-
Footnote from the olden days:
One of the experiments from my previous stint was seeing how much inf a character could make while earning field crafter. I'd never done it before, but some helpful person who's name I have shamefully forgotten slipped me a printable template and off I went.
Buying the bulk of my junk on the market, crafting to the plan, selling the salable stuff and throwing the rest in the garbage, I checked in on him tonight and found him at level 20, with Field Crafter and 113,157,667 inf on account.
Aside from inf from defeats and selling drops, all of that came from crafting and selling generic IOs on the market.
Nothing amazing, but a tidy sum to make while pursuing an accolade perceived as 'expensive'. -
-
thanks, gang!
this deluge of merits (and also AT IOs, I ended up with 15 or so) has me hoping against hope that the days of poor-whining on the forums are over- it seems to me anyone with a couple of tokens to burn can rake in a few hundred million in the time it takes to flip some cards. -
Quote:that was on a few months ago, but disappeared again much to the chagrin of my son.
If they ever got The Real Ghostbusters for streaming, I'd be all over that.
and did you know there was a Karate Kid cartoon series?
Well there was, and it REALLY REALLY SUCKED!
Thanks, Netflix! =P -
So over the course of my CoH career I've probably earned less than 100 merits total- I can't team much and even when I can rarely have the time for running TFs. I ran Katies for the recipe back in the day, but that's about it.
Cut to Freedom and the devilishly addictive Super Packs.
I dabbled a bit before shrugging and blowing points on the 25 pack value buy the other night, intending to pick up the rest of the Elemental Order costume.
Among the rest of the phat lewt I ended up with nearly a thousand (!) merits.
So....uh, what do I do with them?
Or rather, what's the most efficient way for me to turn those merits into $$$$$ for the Crazy 88's INF-ferno?
All advice welcome! -
I'm having a bit of a problem with it, as he's become one of those characters I just want to keep playing. It's thrown a wrench in my 'play and review the new content with Lizardroid' plan...this is why I have alt-itis. I think of characters, play for a while, think of some other character, find out I like them better and end up retracing my steps.
Oh well, I can always pick up the reviewing when I get SilverRage to 16!
Quote:You can tell that I haven't played in a while because I forgot to plug my other arcs. If you liked one of mine, there's a chance you'll like one of my others, right? If you search "Bubbawheat" all my arcs should come up. While I feel It's my strongest story, you might not like Matchstick Women due to the custom enemies. A Clone of Your Own? is another fun little take on a typical story with the doppleganger system using mostly Freakshow. And if you've been on many Lambda trials yet you might get a kick out of Whack a Mole: Lambda Sector, though again, it does have all custom enemies.
And custom enemies aren't a total 'no play' for me- but I like to go into those missions with one of my powerful, kitted out characters. It's been my experience that trying a custom enemy MA arc with a 'regular' character is guaranteed frustration and annoyance.
Ok, I claimed all the merits from super packs last night. I burned off 30 or so and (shockingly, to me) ended up with almost a thousand merits?!? I claimed them on the Goat and he had like 20 in the bank, my style of gameplay not being conducive to merit generation.
Seemed like an awful lot to me. Off to the Market forum to see what the most efficient use for them is, from an inf earning perspective.... -
Champions pen and paper rules were (and presumably are) far and away the best at representing super heroic combat.
-
logged in Mach 7 to get the anniversary badge this AM, wondered why he didn't have any inf, then remembered he was my Crazy 88's Bagman. =P
Paid our base rent tho, so they won't turn the lights off this month! -
with the changes GR wrought on the game and the further modifications attending Freedom, I don't see that there's any problem with red side.
Players who like it play there.
Players who liked the ATs but not the 'look and feel', or who just weren't comfortable being the bad guy, can now play the ATs red side.
Players who liked red side but were really into the heroic ATs can now play them in the Rogue Isles.
It's all one game these days- the Rogue Isles, Paragon & Praetoria are all just big game zones subdivided into many smaller ones. If some zones are less popular than others, that's just how life is. In Paragon, nobody's ever in IP. In the Rogue Isles, Nerva is a wasteland. It happens. -
Quote:Apologies to DM, EM & SS, but after one night of play it's obvious Street Justice is the punching melee set we should have had at launch. =PStreet Justice is /deliciously/ punchy. I have a redside StJ/Will Brute that's an ex-Mob legbreaker. Never had a character concept that worked itself out in my head so quickly.
really fun, very super-feeling, and especially on a brute the first two attacks are fabulous. First character in a LOOOONG time I didn't feel the need to immediately claim my vet attacks on.
Not to sound *too* much like a paid shill for Paragon, but anyone who's felt even semi-curious about Street Justice should pick it up while it's on sale. Super fun.
I have one other /shield character, my tank Crafticus, who uses an energy shield. I was slightly put out when making SilverRage that I couldn't get a plain ol' round metal shield- they all had wood backing, which doesn't fit my silver age concept. I couldn't find a 'basic' shield without a wood backing, and all the other ones, cool as they are, didn't really work with the 'clean lines, simple graphics' aesthetic of the era.
A tiny quibble, as you can't really see the back of the shield when he's in action, but being how I am it is nagging at me a bit.
Paid up the rent on most of my bases and went spelunking through storage- quite a bit of junk in there. Base salvage racks only hold 30 now? Sheesh. I went through and turned most of my base salvage into other junk when they got rid of it, even so I've got a couple hundred chunks of components in these itty bitty little storage units. Components I don't even remember how to use or what they're for- heh.
I burned off a 25 pack buy of super packs over the course of the week and got all the Elemental costume bits plus a bunch of attuned enhancements and piles of other stuff- I guess I ought to figure out what the deal is with Enhancement Booster & Catalysts and whatnot. I already have a use for all my Enhancement Unslotters- I put off respec'ing my fire/ice blaster literally for years because he's chock full of expensive stuff that his new build doesn't call for that I didn't want to just lose...neither did I want to go through multiple respecs to pull them all out. Voila, problem solved!
The learning curve coming back from the 'old game' to the Freedom era is seeming every bit as steep as the learning curve when I picked up CoH back in the day and started feeling my way around my first MMO. Lots and lots and LOTS of new stuff that alters what you know about the game in ways subtle and overt. -
gawd, I'm hopeless!
Logged on tonight intending to rock some event action with a 50, ended up buying Street Justice on sale because I had a good idea for a character and rolling up yet another alt. And I like him, so he'll probably go far- SilverRage, a heroic street/shield brute. Couldn't believe the name wasn't taken.
Ran him through Atlas, then logged in a few old characters to pick up the 8 year anniversary badge & pay some base rents.
