If I luck into a bit of free time I'll definitely check it out.
I think much of my disdain for TFs dates from bad early experiences- old Posi was a wretched slog, especially back in the day before all the upgrades to the low level player experience. Synapse was nearly as bad, although it at least had a fun part at the end with the Clockwork King. And don't get me started on Bastion/Citadel.....ugh!

But the modern stuff is actually pretty fun- whenever I have time to run one it's a good time.

A few notes on mace/stone brutes:

I really like mace. It's a lot more fun than axe- I have an axe tanker at 50, chosen for theme, and while it's not horrible it doesn't 'feel' as fun as mace. Unless Mace face-plants at the higher levels it's going to be my go-to weapon set...at least until I break down and buy Titan Weapons.

    Stone, so far so good.
My only gripe is with Rooted- solo, I just toggle it off and on as needed. No problem.
But last night running with a team it was really getting on my nerves- and this was *with* a Kin along. Some of it is my computer lag with the big spawns- I'd think I toggled it, jump into the fight, and suddenly be held, or whatever. Annoying- and what self respecting brute has to keep a break free handy? Bah!
Plus, even with the SB still no jumping, which was a problem on a couple of the maps. And I'm not the sort to spam SB MEEEEEE! constantly, so there were some gaps in coverage, which led to de-toggling & the aformentioned lag induced non-toggle toggles.

But it looks great, goes perfectly with the theme of the character (especially love Brimstone Armor, which I picked up in time for the Bat 'Zul lava fight- wheee!) and performs fairly well.

I do see myself investing in a couple of GotA +runspeeds sometime down the road....
  4. Okay, change of pace tonight!

Logged in Scab Factory to check the market after my son went to bed.
Someone was recruiting for a Virgil Tarikoss TF, one of the only red side TFs I've actually run. Knowing it was short, I hopped on board.

We had a fun crew, the leader was an RP'er and everyone else played along, which was entertaining. Had a stalker, some flavor of /kin corrupter, a DB scrapper and a psi dominator.

Scab Factory ended up having the personality of either an up-market Hulk, or a down-market Ben Grimm. Hadn't thought about it much, but that's what came out. I always forget how fun teaming is in this game, I wish I could do it more often.

The TF was nice- not a lot of pointless running around, only one irritating mission (power plant outdoor map full of ghosts- ick), we rolled through it pretty quick until the last mission- not that we were doing a speed run, or even had a plan (we cleared about half the outdoor map before the stalker went scouting for objectives), but the team was just blowing away everything that got in our way. Scabby isn't all that butch, but the combo of buffs & Psi controls let him handle some giant spawns without too much trouble. One faceplant, quickly rectified with the vet rez.

The final mission took us quite a while because we were clearing out all the side tunnels. We were having fun, so it didn't get tedious. At some point we developed a team in-joke about "flaming turkey dinners" that led to much mirth.

Finally got Batty to come out and play and put him down without too much trouble.

Had a blast. Fun team, TF was a good length (i/e it ended before I started getting antsy), and I picked up two levels, ending up at 21. Everyone liked Scabby's costume.

Entertaining night, I need to make more time for teaming.

Its not that the effects are completely unnoticeable, but rather that they are not worth the slot cost in attacks. Devastation chance for hold would probably offer more mitigation.
I have the heal proc and it's just useless- when it does trigger I think it heals for something like 60 health on my level 50 blaster....and it doesn't trigger that often.

Same blaster has the Hold proc, which is great. It's my ice & it seems to trigger fairly often, including in conjunction with the ice hold in his secondary. Very handy.

The game has inspirations for situations where your characters base power level may not be enough. You refuse to use them, then complain the obstacle is too challenging for you to overcome.

That isn't a problem with the game.

In that mission they'll both be 35s. Will that work? Oh, probably.
Exemplar'ed 50's have many more slots available than they would have at level 35 and those slots are filled with more powerful enhancements.

An exemplared 50 would stomp a mudhole in that mission, assuming basline SO performance.

But again, why are they tossing these ridiculous gimmicks into missions geared toward solo play? They're forgetting that not everyone picks a brute.
Everyone has access to inspirations and the 'help' channel though.

How do you know they're "clearly" anything when you haven't asked?
And if you don't like demanding things, then just ask politely- you're the one typing the message.

It's been my experience that at any given time there are a number of people just hanging out not doing anything in particular who are glad to lend a hand.

It doesn't matter how kitted out the 50 is because all of those tasty set bonuses and that lovely incarnate stuff won't do anything when he's brought down to 35 again.
A level 50 using generics packs more than enough power to deal with a mid-level EB.

yeah- any fix that relies on hitting a high level doesn't cut it.

And I'd prefer it to bolster the full level range- it's not like lowbie blasters are exactly living the life of Reilly, it just sucks less than the rest of the game.

Okay, I'll just leave balancing it to the devs.

I suspected it was too simple to work.

Although you could actually justify it as being an advantage for single-target heavy sets in a game that's increasingly tilted toward AoE over the years.

    Although the short-ish range....hmmmm.

I'll let people who are good with numbers chew this one over.

and while I'm on a roll here, what if the defiance regen buff *increased* while you were mezzed, to some extent? So your offensive abilities would be reduced, but you actually became slightly more survivable. Sort of a "you can HOLD me, but you can't kill me!" effect.

Hardly "demonized"....if that were the case I'd be comparing it unfavorably with the grotesque monstrosity DCUO forces you to use.

I rate it as needs improvement, not makes you want to uninstall the game then reformat your hard drive to make sure you got rid of every last byte. =P

    I like it!

So that's my official vote for the 'big fix' - a regen component to defiance and an expanded attack chain while mezzed to mitigate the useless feeling you get going PEW PEW PEW! with your two weakest blasts, with the +regen helping keep you alive until the mez wore off.

And motivated players could leverage it for even greater survivability using the IO system + incarnate stuff without it being overpowering.

    /edit
thinking about it, why not just let blasters use any of their single target attacks while mezzed?
would that be too burdensome on aoe heavy sets like fire?

    A major improvement.

That it still needs more help makes me weep for my past self, struggling all those years with that depraved mess of an interface.

gawd how i hated that power.

For some reason I like the idea of a blaster boost that doesn't involve +def or +res.

    Why not +regen?

Add a +regen component to defiance- the more you blast & the harder you hit, the more survivable you are.

They'd still need some way to deal with mez- I'd be happy with just adding more attacks to those first two blasts. It's not so much being stuck that bugs me, it's the limitations on what I can do. Give me a workable (if restricted) attack chain for when I'm mezzed and I'd be fine.

CO's does a couple of things waaaaaaay better than CoH (monstrous characters & asymmetry spring to mind) but CoH is generally superior.

Although it could, like nearly everything else in the game, do with a UI upgrade.

    Craft IO's in AE

search 'crafting' and you'll find a bunch of arcs on that Vanguard map with a crafting station. It's a handy trick.

But keep in mind you don't get badge credit for IOs created this way.

Wait-what? How the-? I'm running on NO BOSSES! Why in the hell is there a BOSS! What the FRACK!?

....Hm...OK...fine. It's ok. I CAN deal with this. Hosp'd it...trucked my way back...picked another fight with him...and put him down...though it was a bit tough. Cool. That's done. Hopefully he was just some kinda special deal and that was a one-off. NNNNNNNNNNNOPE! Ran into that very same thing a few MORE times. Now I've simply accepted the fact that FW and NW content is just going to simply ignore my difficulty settings and surprise me every so often by tossing a random boss at me for no particular reason other than just to tick me off. And I wonder sometimes why a few of my friends finally got fed up with this game and left.

EBs...i don't mind them so much as long as i know to expect them. But...after hearing about the NW mission that spawns like 2 or 3 of them....yee. Not sure my dommy can handle that solo....who until running the Fireball missions vs. Animus Arcana, was running missions at +0/x2 (wormholing 3 people just feels like a waste to me...lol). Ugh...hate those blasted things. They're too perfectly matched. Damage, (de)buff, healing...good god. What happened to the days of "10 guys that all do pretty much the same thing except that one guy over there who does something slightly different that makes you wanna kill him first just to get his annoying *** out of the way and he's not even a boss" spawns!!!!!

Seriously...if I say i don't want to fight a boss (and usually don't cuz either A: I'd get creamed, or B: They just take to freakin long to kill), don't toss any freakin BOSSES AT ME! EB...yeah...fine. I can deal with that. "The Big Bad" and all that. Makes sense for story purposes. Random bosses for the sake of random bosses...not so much.
I agree that random bosses thrown into missions when you're set not to fight bosses is dumb and should be changed. It's not serving a story purpose, it's just pointlessly adding difficulty/annoyance to a mission for a person who'd rather not.

You do sacrifice something- no other AT requires so much micro-managing to reach its peak performance, and no other AT is so completely reliant on its pets.

The people who play MMs obviously don't mind these things, but they are impositions.
  23. ditto!

Although it's lame that 'compare/contrast' threads are only BADDY BAD BAD when players post them.
  24. Running SilverRage through Faultline right now, mostly because I just had to get him the Old Fashioned badge, and since I'm in the zone anyway why not hit up Jim Temblor.....

So far so good- still fun, not a whole lot of useless traveling and the 'new' Faultline isn't something I've played absolutely to death anyway so running around the zone qualifies as sightseeing.

I fell into a crevice, which wasn't that deep, had a nice wide, flat bottom, and plenty of walkways leading back up to the surface, which reminded me of doing one of those awful Hunt missions in Old Faultline with my super speed scrapper, zipping into one of those endless, steep crevices, getting stuck while trying to jump-jump-jump my way out and having to be rescued by a pal with TP Friend.

    Ah, the 'good' old days!

I was a little confused in the two Fusionette missions- did she get a buff or something? She didn't die once, and I wasn't being particularly solicitous of her wellbeing.

Anyway, finished up Temblors arc & got SilverRage to 20.
I'm still really liking both shield & street justice- I have a feeling he'll eventually join my select crew of 50's. Although I get the feeling I haven't seen him really shine yet- I may need to try and schedule a block of time where I see how it goes on a big team.
  25. I just have a low level d/d, but so far I really like the primary, mostly for the terrific animations.

Dark Assault is, as noted, the same ol' same ol', with the added problem of the animations looking stale and tired next to the cool ones in the primary.
