I don't see anything odd about someone of his talents working for what is essentially the Microsoft of that world. Not really a gamble just because his father was a jerk...we don't know anything about the kid other than who he is, that he's a capitialist and is good with software.
Well as Flynn described Dillinger "not as smart, but very sneaky." The impression I got from Dillinger Jr. was that he seemed like he could become very much like his father.

And yes I cant see Flynn holding a generational grudge, it just seems odd that the son of Dillinger would be there. But again, the kid is talented.
  4. The main snag that the EU novels suffered from for years was the following decrees from Lucas:

    1. You shall NOT reveal Luke/Leia's mother! Hence the Black Fleet Trilogy which sends Luke on a quest for his mother ends up being a bit of a fizzle.

    2. You shall NOT reveal how the old Jedi Order worked, nor HOW the Emperor took power or what turned Anakin to the darkside.

    3. Only "I" George Lucas can ever kill Luke, Han, and Leia. When Vector Prime broke the "invincibility bubble" it was with Lucas' approval considering who the victim was.

    4. "I" George Lucas do not have to have my movies tie into these novels at all and can disregard anything from the novels at any time!

Also Lucas has to give his stamp of approval for the content in general and has in the past ordered a change to the story to fit his plans for the movies. This occurred in the NJO books when he ordered the story changed to kill off Anakin SOLO since he feared that fans who saw the prequels would be confused upon seeing Anakin SKYWALKER......oy. Writers that were interviewed weren't too pleased by this and also joked that Kyp Durron should thank Lucas as HE was the intended victim.

As the prequels came out, then they could be referenced a bit but for all the adventures they had and all the times in the movies and books that Artoo was damaged and repaired he still carried in his super duper secret core memory information that would finally get revealed to Luke and Leia in the Dark Nest Trilogy of books, a trilogy that came out after Ep 3 was released. This information was that Artoo had downloaded the Jedi Temple recordings of Anakin killing everyone, and his encounter on Mustafar with Padme and how he force choked her senseless, and the last recording was of Luke and Leia being born and Padme dying. Considering all the years that passed in the books this revelation was truly a Deus Ex Machina, imo.

Still the books I'd recommend are:

The Heir to the Empire Trilogy (Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising, Last Command) the Hand of Thrawn duology (Spectre of the Past, Vision of Tomorrow), Survivor's Quest, Allegiance, Outbound Flight. All written by Timothy Zahn.

The Heir to the Empire trilogy was what got the EU moving again, however technically the old book Splinter of the Mind's Eye is what got the EU started in the first place. Problem with that book is that it was written way back after Star Wars first came out and while it has been folded into EU continuity it is still a bit of a stretch since it had a pre Yoda trained Luke vs. Vader and no mention that Vader was his dear old daddy.....

The young Han Solo trilogy: this is pretty much the definitive Han Solo origin and how he met Chewie, got the Falcon, and got into trouble with Jabba and meeting Lando. Also it has his first encounters with Boba Fett. It also loosely references the old Han Solo at Stars End novel and the two others as well as the old Lando trilogy all of which were written between Star Wars and Empire.

    The Corellian Trilogy is recommended.

    The entire Rogue/Wraith squadron series

The Jedi Academy trilogy and the I, Jedi novel which ties into it.

Courtship of Princess Leia: decent story, kind of humorous about how Han finally won Leia's hand in marriage.

Tales of Jabba's Palace, Tales of the Bounty Hunters, Tales of the Mos Eisley Cantina: novels that are collections of short stories, but they each have one about Boba Fett and one of them should contain the short story about how he got out of the Sarlaac.

Boba Fett Trilogy: expands on how he got out of the Sarlaac and his recovery and adventure afterwards. Decent story but if you want the full story on how he gave the Sarlaac a bad case of indigestion then pick these up. Also any revelation or hint to Boba's past in these books must be taken with a grain of salt since Lucas made him a Jango clone in the prequels.

The Dark Empire, Dark Empire 2 and Empire's End comics from Dark Horse...eh. They could be avoided. Also Children of the Jedi should be avoided and for all that is good and decent about Star Wars: NEVER READ Crystal Star.
  5. Watched TRON Legacy again and still enjoy it. A nice sequel, with a couple of loose ends that could spawn a sequel.

One minor thing though is this: given how Ed Dillinger Sr. gained control of Encom in the first place via the MCP and swiping Kevin's files, and how the evidence was revealed at the end.......I find it surprising that Dillinger's son would be part of Encom at all. Granted this is the son and not the father, but that Encom would take such a gamble no matter how smart junior is...... OF course this also presumes that Dillinger Sr. was prosecuted at all or if he copped a deal and stepped down as Senior Exec. Neither movie nor the other TRON related items a few years back ever clarified Dillinger's fate.

Yeah I hear that. Some of the tie in issues to the big crossovers are so useless. Luckily for Blackest night you only needed Blackest Night 1-8 and the GL and GLC books. The rest were superfluous.

All dead characters that have "returned" in Chaos War are still dead according to interviews I read before CW started. So yes they are back since Death has apparently fled until the war is over. The main question is: will any of them STAY after Death is restored?

I've stated on some other Marvel boards in the past that the only way to really overcome Mar-Vell's death since his death is really the only non violent death in the MU is either have a massive cosmic reboot of the MU, or else a messianic style return.

The encounter with the Silver Surfer back in Surfer's old series had enough ambiguity to it to imply that Surfer was hallucinating, but why hallucinate Mar-Vell as part of it? Also Surfer told Marv that he wished he knew him in his lifetime and departed. Marv then said "Perhaps in another", so that makes me think it was indeed a true encounter.

They've tried to replace Mar-Vell and failed. Either bring him back or get serious about replacing him.

I don't think that day jobs are the most amazing addition to the game ever, but I do enjoy a few of the powers they provide, and I've been happy to get a few extra badges. If you're refusing to log in because you might be a couple weeks late on your year-long quest to get them all, you're doing it wrong.

Sorry, I can understand not liking them, I can understand thinking they're a poorly designed mistake, but that specific line of reasoning just baffles me.
My issue with the DJ's isn't the concept of the DJ's.....it's the 21 days needed to get it. Seems a bit lengthy to me. 14 days would be more palatable, imo.

10 days to charge up a Day Job accolade...no big deal.

once i am done the day jobs however, i will be moving my main back to redside permanently unless there are more hero only badges out there (and i still need the badges from the new redside arc anyway)
Yeah I made sure that my two badge hunters only need to work the dayjobs except for any new badges that were added over time. As they are both frankenslotted I think I'll keep them on the fence as it were as vigilante or else make them both blueside.

I was relieved that Praetoria didn't offer new Day Jobs. However as I look at all the dayjobs and the locations they correspond to, I'm not sure there are any spots left for new dayjobs. The only places I can think of would be the Storm Palace and the Chantry but we already have a DJ for the shard so that would be kind of redundant.

Monster Island? The Hive? The Abyss? Doesn't seem like they would be suitable for a DJ either.

So unless some new zones are added I can't see any new Day Jobs being brought in.

Looking forward to logging my now former redside badge hunter and watching the 6th and final Blueside only DJ ding. Then that alt can truly be said to have every dayjob, a beautiful feeling knowing that now I can log him out at a location of my choice to charge up certain day job accolades that I like to have charged up for him. He would have had the last DJ sooner but he had to walk the path of the Incarnate first.
  11. Some newer alts of mine logged in to the event and received Festive and the Holiday Cheer. Some previous alts of mine took down the Lord of Winter and received Holiday Cheer. Go fig.

All in all, I liked the event this year. The only thing I missed was the free server transfers, had a couple of alts I wanted to bounce around.

Better to have them all, then just log out in an area to charge up a dayjob accolade of your choosing.

I dont really like the day job badges. Bad idea to make badges for not playing your favorite characters however because of it i probably have 15 more 50s then i would have so i guess i see what they were doin.

I wont miss "needing" to log out in a certain spot. And i wont be pissed when i log back in to realize i just was in the wrong spot and i missed 5 days. That was frustating.

please NO MORE day jobs in future issues!!!!!
Congrats! My two main badge hunters side switched sometime ago and each one is a few days out from completing the 6th and final dayjob badge that was exclusive to the opposite alignment. Thus they can truly say they will have ALL the dayjobs. It will be nice to have them done so that I can log them where I please and not worry about progress lost and I wholeheartedly agree with the NO NEW DAYJOBS sentiment.

Now where did I put the parts for my DeLorean with Flux Capacitor?

(And no, that wasn't the strange thing. ) The owner was also in the store at the time, and between he and I, we try to get the smalltalk going, just like we do with every customer. Turns out both girls are pretty geeky, and they stick around for like an hour, chatting with us about random geeky stuff.

The conversation eventually shifts to cute girl going to college for art, and I think to myself, "Self, you need an artist for your webcomic! Say something!" I do, and the cute girl gets all starry eyed at the idea. So while the owner is his giggling his *** off (he knows I'm single) I grab a piece of paper to write down the web address for my webcomic. I figure I'll show her where to go, tell her to comment on the website if she's interested in doing the art, and leave it at that.

Cute girl, on the other hand, wants my full name, cell number, gives me her full name and number, and tells me to friend her on facebook. Which completely took me by surprise.

Is this sort of thing normal in public business? I was stuck in an office job for the better part of the last decade and didn't really talk to many people in person, so I'm reeeaally out of the loop on this stuff.
Perfectly normal, and never show her this thread.

I’d especially like to thank all of you City of Heroes fans. I appreciate the passion that you feel for your hobby, even when that passion was, shall we say, directed towards me in a rather negative fashion? I have always tried to keep an open mind and treat your feedback fairly. I’ve loved seeing what you have done with the tools we have provided you with. Some of the MA arcs I’ve seen are brilliant and some of the base layouts are simply amazing. I’ve seen costumes made that, quite frankly, are completely beyond my ability despite having access to the exact same tools. Then, there are the wonderful people I’ve met at Hero-Con and Meet & Greets. It has definitely been my pleasure to work with this community.

In closing, I’d like to thank you all for the good times and putting up with my sometimes surly nature. Going forward, Synapse and Black Scorpion are the ‘go to’ guys whenever you have a powers or entity related question or problem. Feel free to direct your inquiries to them here on the boards and they will do their best to address them. I’ll have PM’s turned on as Castle until 12:00 Pacific, Friday, December 24. Feel free to PM me or post here – I’ll try and answer or comment as best I can!
You will be sorely missed, Castle. Thank you for your hard work.

But that's because there are limitations on the technology that I get the impression you're not aware of. This video has probably one of the best examples of a CG'd face (even one that's been scanned and recreated with a computer) that our software is capable of, and it's not flawless either.

It's not that the CLU effects are 'bad'; if you stop and think about the fact that there are people who still insist that it's just clever makeup, it's pretty impressive. It's just that the technology hasn't quite gotten us across the 'uncanny valley' yet, and some (but not all) people find that near miss a little less acceptable than a computer generated person who clearly doesn't match reality. Some people would prefer a crappy fake robot head or something to a computer generated face that's just 'off' enough to be noticeable.
I have no major complaints about the movie or the CGI Flynn. A lot of the griping I've seen elsewhere is mostly nit picking.

The digitization process can send people and objects into the computer and back out again....but how can a program get rezzed up into our world? Does the program suddenly gain a human body or did I miss something? Ah well, an excuse to see it again

    Darkman (1990)

Just read up on the wikipedia entry for Darkman, looks like they wanted to do a TV series and had a pilot made. Now that would have been interesting to see.

Perhaps if there is enough interest, a TV series could be done now? With FX tech being what it is, they should have little trouble with Darkman's many faces.
